    There is a problem with drone photography in the United States. The FAA has used the rules of the AMA (Academy of Model Aeronautics) to govern Recreational Drone Flight. There are many rules. One of the most demanding is not to fly over people, buildings, roadways, populated areas etc. Anther FAA rule is that you should always maintain visual contact. I see this violated in our nearby parks all the time. You can not fly over National Parks or any State Parks. Almost all of the videos I see posted on RUclips violate one or more of these rules. Unfortunately, it seems that people who fly drones simply ignore these rules. After all, there is not much enforcement. It seems you only hear from the FAA if you actually post videos on RUclips the show flying in National Parks. Actually, the individual states can only control the land that you take off from, not the air above it. Since there is virtually no enforcement, people ignore these rules like they ignore the speed limits.

    Hopefully, this will mean the slowing down of the technology revaluation we all have been caught up in, blindsided for the most of us!

    I'm a bit worried about the advancement of AI but don't have internal alarm bells ringing quite yet
    In terms of the end of humanity, I think climate change or water scarcity are more concerning than AI replicating photographs
    But I am worried about AI cheapening artists work. I don't think the best of the best photographers will be out of business, but I would not be surprised if the lower bell curve of photographers become more or less replaceable by AI.
    However we also have to consider the subject of the photograph don't we? An AI can't take a photo of someone's wedding, it can't take a photo of a live festival, or a real estate listing, or the winning world cup goal, or so on.
    I think AI is more like a painter that's really good at photorealistic paintings. It can't take photos that capture a real-life moment in time. It's all relegated to an imaginary composition, it can't reach out of the data centre's servers and take an exposure

      There are many analog and digital ways to create and manipulate images, but that's the essential question. However, that would require a more precise definition of photography than is generally accepted today.

    Love your videos. I'm a photographer around Toronto as well and I'm really happy to have found your channel!
    I'm curious what you think of technology like Imagen which uses Ai learning to replicate styles in Lightroom. I have a pet peeve about people who produce very pretty surfaces on images but don't actually know how to capture and so have no substance.

      @MaartenHeilbron  Год назад

      Thanks for the kind words, always appreciated.
      Why would you object to this technology but not Lightroom or any computer-based tool?
      Do you object to driving a car, heating your home or listening to recorded music? These kinds of tools and technologies enhance our lives and make things easier and simpler.

    • @edrollie9923

      @@MaartenHeilbron Granted they do make life easy, but I like to think that the art in photography is in the action of the artist through the tool. If the tool does it all then there is no art in it from the artist. Using someone else's presets in Lightroom is giving half the product of my photo to their effort, IMO. If an Ai processes my photos for me then it come from an algorithm? I don't believe that's art.
      The level of convenience I find acceptable, personally, is having the multitude of sliders that Lightroom has and being able to save settings as presets. But that's my preference.
      Thank you for answering. 🙂

      I think you're splitting hairs. Your camera likely uses AI for the algorithms that identify faces and eyes, and that provide exposure settings for AutoISO and all modes except M.

    Those were neither in the style of Tony nor Gerald. They were very much in the normal and excellent Maarten style. Which has me puzzled. And maybe this was your intention? In fact I wonder what the point of this video is. If any. The predictions were, I think, very much on the safe side, and so perhaps not the most interesting ones. For instance they answered none of my questions for the next year in photography. Such as:
    Will Canon allow third party manufacturers to produce and sell lenses for the RF mount in 2023?
    Will Canon (as they once did) make an affordable camera with Eye Controlled AF in 2023?
    (Perhaps an R7-E)?
    Will Sigma make firmware upgrades to their EF-mount lenses to give them much better compatibility with Canon RF mount cameras in 2023?
    Will Maarten allow his beard to grow?

    • @MaartenHeilbron
      @MaartenHeilbron  Год назад

      Right. It's very generic and bland, regardless of "style". I was just, as they say, checking out the competition.
      Maybe I should have asked it more specific questions, as you suggest.
      I asked it to write a review of the X-T5, but the reply to that was so full of factual errors it wasn't worth doing.

  • @williamstatt8651

    Do you worry that web sites like Doll-E with their AI voice generated images might destroy Stock Photography? What about for photographers who try to seel their own photographic images online? One can simply use their voice to generate images from AI sites. What about Advertising? Right now the facial images are poor, but it won't take long for technology to clean that up. I see AI generated images doing to photography what smart phones did to cameras starting about 2012.

    • @MaartenHeilbron
      @MaartenHeilbron  Год назад

      I could worry, but neither my concerns, or potential legislation is going to stop this. We'd best learn how it works so that we can take advantage. Then we can see if both can co-exist. Many times the dread of incoming technologies is unfounded. TV was going to kill movie theatres, but they're still around.
