  • #Farscape is an Australian-American Scifi television series, produced originally for the Nine Network. The series was conceived by Rockne S. O'Bannon and produced by The Jim Henson Company and Hallmark Entertainment. The Jim Henson Company was responsible for the various alien make-up and prosthetics, and two regular characters (the animatronic puppets Rygel and Pilot) are entirely Creature Shop creations. #Scifi

Farscape features a diverse ensemble of characters who are initially escaping from corrupt authorities in the form of a militaristic organization called the Peacekeepers. The protagonists live inside a large bio-mechanical ship called Moya, which is a living entity. In the first episode, they are joined by the main character, John Crichton (Ben Browder), a modern-day American astronaut who accidentally flew into the entrance of a wormhole near Earth during an experimental space flight. On the same day, another stranger is picked up by Moya: a stranded Peacekeeper named Aeryn Sun (Claudia Black). Despite his best intentions, Crichton makes enemies; the primary of these is known as Scorpius. There are a few stand-alone plots but the show gradually unfolds progressive arcs beginning with their recapture by the Peacekeepers, followed by Crichton's search to find another wormhole back to Earth and an eventual arms race for wormhole technology weapons.

The only "problems" with the characters in the Peace Keeper Wars were that they couldn't use the original Rigel puppet, so they had to make a new one and Lani Tupu didn't come back to voice Pilot(yes, he played 2 characters on the show), and the new actor doesn't quite sound the same. All in all, imo it was a great finale to the show.

    • @oooooooooooooooom
      @oooooooooooooooom 3 года назад +3

I learned this recently but Lani Tupu did voice Pilot in PKW (He's even credited as the voice of pilot) but there were some kind of complications with the audio filter they used for Pilot's voice and they couldn't recreate the same effect. That's why Pilot doesn't sound the same.

I had access to all the episodes over about 2 months and I didn't want it to end either! It's easily the most under rated sci fi. Both star wars and Star trek have become preoccupied self referential 'canon.' Farscape has that great quality of the original Star Wars of creating this weird, exotic world. Rockne O Bannon was a genius. It holds up incredibly well - especially in thrilling pacing.

They recently started playing re-runs of this show in my state on regular free TV. I had never even heard of it, but it made me curious if it had a cult following. Pleasantly surprised by what some internet searches revealed.
Just wanna say, the show is a lot of fun and I LOVE all of the cool set make-up. Made me think of the old reality show 'Face Off'.

No formal remaster or 4K will ever happen. Unfortunately all the raw footage film they shot was destroyed as they could not afford to store it. The collection of raw film footage, subsequent edits, splice ins of CG was so huge apparently took a whole warehouse to catalog. They felt once the digital effects were added to the new second generation footage there was no reason to keep the first generation as deemed too clean Not so say ai could someday learn to remaster the splice and fill in the potholes of the second gen footage.
As to the limitations an achilles heels of this series people could not follow what occurred in prior episodes. Battlestar Galactica creator Ron Moore was a Farscape fan and learned that lesson and included those intro's of review at the beginning of each BG episode.

I have theories about the show. For example the Dentiks. My theory as to why you should not swallow them. They could become a parasite in your body like a tapeworm. I have a theory about the Neberai contagion. I have thoughts of what may have happened to Ferlow after Season 3. I would have like to know of Natira is still alive out there. I think Einstein sent the Serpent after the Pathfinder aliens. I would like to know who created the Darnez probes. There are other questions that even the comics didn't answer that I would like to know.

They guessed not to use the character again.

John was testing the arial maneuver called a Slingshot and use the Earth’s gravitational pull to propel him into space. At the same time a solar flare happens and the combination of both the maneuver and the flare creates the wormhole.

The core cast members on Moya were terrific, loved the art design and some of the imaginative eps. I was put off tho by how over-the-top the actors playing evil characters were. Way too much chewing the scenery. Sometimes it was intentionally campy, that's fun. But when the villains were overwrought stereotypes it undercut the dramatic tension for me. I enjoyed Farscape's creativity otherwise.

Just completed my first watch, 4 seasons and the Peacekeeper Wars.
Honestly, just wasn't for me. I don't get what the big deal is. I've heard and still hear great things about this show, however it was all just beyond me.
I will agree that they did some new things here, pushing further where most shows just stopped, played it safe. But overall, i didn't really care. I don't see myself ever re-watching this show again, yet I'm always curious of other's points of view, specifically this thread since it's more recent.

Ok well since the guy seems to speak semi broken English I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and say he miss-spoke. The Farscape project and John's module had absolutely nothing to do with worm hole technology or worm holes at all. And didn't have anything to do with worm holes until he modified his module to survive traveling through a worm hole far later in the series. In season 3 if I remember correctly.
The module was created to test his theories about using gravity assisted slingshot acceleration using a planet to accelerate a space craft faster than humans are capable of. Which also makes no sense because the space program has and does use a gravity assisted sling shot maneuver for almost every single space craft, probe or manned vehicle since the beginning of the space program. They use a gravity assist from Earth and sometimes even Venus to accelerate something faster than we're capable of. And to conserve and use less fuel. They usually use Earth to do it speeding something in orbit faster and faster over and over and then shooting it where they want. Mars for instance. Like they did with the NASA Spirit and Opportunity Mars probes. How his math and theories and how the module is different from the normal way any space program on Earth uses a gravity assisted sling shot to accelerate is never actually talked about or specified throughout the entire series.
But It had nothing to do with worm holes at all. Not the science of it or the technology he was using. He just happened to encounter and get swallowed or "gobbled up" as John puts it into a worm hole. By pure dumb luck he encountered a worm hole that Earth didn't know about. That is not far from Earth and connects to a separate area of the galaxy where it spit him out. I doubt even the race he encountered with the four arms and dread locks pretending to be his father in the first season created it. Which may or may not be the same race as "Einsteins" race. They appear to be two different races. One is physical and Einsteins race appears to not be physical and exist in a parallel dimension. I'm not sure. They also never fully explain that either. But they seem to be separate races. Neither race seems to have created the worm hole to earth. They can only control worm holes and manipulate them.
So the one that grabbed John and threw him across the galaxy was random. And we know from the Idalons that the Peace Keeper race were early humans stolen from Earth and genetically modified. So Earth is in the same galaxy as everything else in the series. Only Earth is further out on a spiral arm. Which we are. On the Orion arm if i remember correctly. So most likely Farscape is set either towards the center of the Milky Way Galaxy. Or on the opposite spiral arms on the other side. In Star Trek terms the Gama and Delta quadrants of the galaxy.
Either way, by destiny or by dumb luck accident. John just happened to get grabbed by this wormhole that's naturally near Earth that somehow we never encountered with any space craft or probe like the Voyager probes. Which space is big so big it's possible we missed it. But not likely since we can see asteroids the size of a soccer/football far from Earth. A building sized wormhole would've been noticed immediately. Even by 2000's technology and astronomy. But whatever it's television soo suspension of disbelief i guess 🤷🏼‍♂️.
But it was accidental. John never meant to purposely create, go near or even knew a worm hole was there. At all. It was a complete accident. He was trying to do a gravity assisted sling shot maneuver around Earth using the Earth's gravity to speed his module up past the maximum speed that his fuel was allowing him to. That was the experiment he was running. It had nothing to do with worm holes in any way.
