Part two available here: ruclips.net/video/0v-PNgb7G3U/видео.html This video is the summation of months of work. THANK YOU for watching. Seasons 1&2 focus a lot on Peter while seasons 3&4 are where the narrative more shifts to Olivia's perspective and I cannot wait to get those seasons to you. Want it faster? Like and SHARE! I love all of you for supporting this project.
Not a lot need be said, Fringe was, and still is, one of the most underrated science fiction shows of our time. I genuinely wish it could be translated to the younger audience in a more consumable manner because growing up with shows like this and stargate (Atlantis and SG-1) genuinely uplifted my childhood and cultivated my love for science. (Naturally reading took the bulk of my needs from there ;D). Thank you for all the effort in getting this video edited, cleared and now posted Daniel
Have you seen 12 monkeys series, kirk tooplays a really important partner and friend and he plays a big role too. And good tie travel, but god beware spoilers, its well done time travel scifi thats great, great characters, great everything , great finale, , gnuinly great and it gets wild yet logical and , avoid spoiler. Mystery is great too. Like the showrunner respected and really did grow with the fandom figuring out, which ends in great red harrings. And seeason 2 gets fun and one, is more build up. the plague arc ends season 1
@@TheBat171 sg1 ia good, but ifound atlantis even better, once they fixed the weak points in season 1, and got jason mamoa, and wrote out ford , and tyla gets interesting .
Anna Torv's career should have skyrocketed after Fringe. I have no idea why it didn't, or at least not as much as I would expect. She has the acting down to a T, she has range and she has the looks too.
I was surprised too. In fact Abrams could have put her in any number of projects. But she's starred in at least 3 series in Australia and maybe her outstanding performance in The Rest of US on HBO will get her some more plumb roles.
I worked with John Noble in 1989 in my early days of professional theatre in Adelaide, South Australia. I was his assistant. He taught me so much about the business and is one of the nicest people you could ever meet. I still remember his advice all these years later now working in tv/film. ❤
Absolutely in awe at the existence of this video. Sometimes it feels like this show itself is from another dimension and that’s why so few people seem to know about it. Getting to hear someone, especially a creator I admire, talk about it for three hours is the greatest possible gift!
I sincerely wish more people knew this show. It's my favourite ever and I have no one to talk to about it lol!! thank you so much for making this I cant wait to listen to what you have to say. Everyone, believe me if you watch it you'll never regret it! Season 1 is a lil tough to get through but after that it's just amazing
Easily one of the best sci-fi shows ever made. What amazes me is how much it holds up on rewatch, too. After knowing all of Olivia's story, to return to her in S1 again, she is truly an amazing actress.
i agree and a extraordinary character olivia is humble sweet caring empathetic smart strong intuitive and a side of kick ass when needed all rolled into one you notice all those things in her threw out the seasons! a great heroine and a ton of credit to anna torv for bringing all the aspects of her threw out the 5 season run even in early season 4 all those things shine threw in her character even though she was slightly different before she transformed back to are olivia from seasons 1 to 3
I met John Noble once at a Comic Con in Atlanta. I asked if he could give me some insight into his portrayal of Walter Bishop. He went on for a solid 5 minutes before staff had to make room for the other guests at the con, but after meeting him I gotta say he is one of the most down-to-earth actors around who absolutely nails all of his performances.
IMO, he's the most underrated actor in Hollywood. He deserved multiple Emmy awards for his work on Fringe. It's crazy to me that he was never even nominated.
Hi! I’m that one guy, appreciate the shout out! Love Peter and Josh’s performance in this show, thought he did the most with the writing he was given every episode.
pretty strange he didnt get any awards for Walther/Walthernate!he did win the Saturn award, what ever that is, for Walther!the ruthlessness of Walthernate was a nice contrast to Walthers wasted/drugged portrayal once in a while!
The sheer range of emotions that John Noble was able to convey on an episode to episode basis could barley be matched by most actors during their entire careers.
i agree but i also felt that way about anna torv as well they both were outstanding and i loved the rest of the cast as well including josh jackson i just feel they all derserve as much credit as john noble esp torv the acting chemisty with the 3 of them was awesome@@pedroaloha301
One thing i appreciate is the makers and network didn't give up on the show, despite the show dropping off in viewers in later seasons or not maintaining huge interest (something you see less of these days). Felt more like a passion project rather than made to make profit. Season 4 and 5 almost didn't happen but they gave the show a proper conclusion.
Pleeeeeease make a followup on the rest of the show, it is SO GREAT that it absolutely deserves it. I hope people binge the show and then we can all watch the next video
I love Fringe. I didn't mind Joshuas performance. I thought his understated delivery was a good counterpoint to John Nobles mania. Also as an Aussie, I always found it hilarious that Fauxlivia had bangs as Anna and John are also Aussies and we call them fringes :D
i'd say that joshua's performance made perfect sense in that his backstory has a whole lot of father-related issues, and a core undercurrent of the whole show is the father-son / parent-child bond.
I always thought Johua's performance was on point, he was supposed to be a jack of all trades with a super high IQ, every person I have met that is REALLY smart, is poignantly facially unexpressive. His one face to meet them all expressions was ok for the character.
I agree, Josh's performance works for the character, given his history and intelligence. He also improves over the seasons. It's funny, though, because I find the character very similar to his character Pacey on Dawson's Creek... just smarter and a tad more mature. I haven't seen him in anything else and I would be interested to see other performances to see if he normally plays that sort of sarcastic know-it-all type or if he plays different types of roles.
They needed to use his terrific range to better effect. Losing Charlie was a pivotal arc for Olivia. Getting him “back” when she was living as Fauxlivia was poignant.
To this day, this remains my favourite show ever. To have watched this week after week was a gift. Even with all the sci-fi, Fringe is a show about a father and son and their redemption story. So good.
Absolutely! That is the essential central principle. The whole examination of fatherhood from the relationship between the Walters and Peter, and the Walternates and Peter (it just occurred to me that Peter is singular-he has no alternates and is therefore the show’s constant), and Olivia’s father and her, and Walter and the little boy from the plant neural network episode, and Peter and Etta, and then the larger concept of fathering a new world.
John Noble said in an interview that Joshua Jackson and Anna Torv both had no-nudity clauses in their contracts because they were aware it might otherwise be asked of them, but it had never occurred to him that anyone would want to see him naked, so he didn't have that protection.
Literally the last network TV show my wife and I watched start to finish. I saw NBC was bringing back Night Court and just couldn't help but think network TV is a dead horse that corporate money continues to kick.
2009 is when I was first deployed to Iraq and is when I first found Fringe. I remember having watch parties in a tent with a projector hooked up to a laptop surrounded by my platoon thoroughly enthralled by what we was watching. Every Sunday at 6 pm, we gather and watch, discuss, and debate who, what, when, where, why, and how. That deployment left many scars but this show did more for me than I could ever express. Thank you for this one. New sub!
A great show that never received the acclaim it deserved having been almost cancelled several times. Looking forward to your deep dive on the remaining seasons imo the story is just heating up. Hope this helps!
I never thought I'd spend 3 hours and 15 minutes watching someone summarize a show I like episode by episode, but here I am, because that was thoroughly entertaining! I'm looking forward to your insights on seasons 3, 4, and 5. I watched Fringe when it was on the air, but I just binged on it from start to finish after all these years and fell in love again. It really is a fantastic show, despite its flaws (some of which you pointed out very well). I really loved seeing it all explained back to back like this, because there are some parts I didn't fully grasp, being that there are so many strings and layers. Also appreciate the acknowledgment that Joshua Jackson's performances improve over time. You're right, he's a fine actor among an outstanding cast... but he does well enough. He particularly plays really well off John Noble. Peter and Walter's relationship really makes this show, IMO. Season 5's fan service is definitely amazing and one big reason why I love it despite it not being a fan favorite. I'm excited to hear your take on that. I will say, there are a few points I disagree on. I found season 2 much more engaging and with better footing compared to season 1. It's really when the show started getting real direction and started working towards that goal. Your point about Peter being a love interesting by virtue of just "being there" is fair (and seems particularly relevant, given her last relationship was also with a coworker), BUT, the writers did spend quite some time building that slow burn between them, so it's not like her confession came out of nowhere. There are a lot of lingering looks and soft touches and it was obviously building up to that. Olivia's choice of sharing her true feelings seems out of place in the context of surviving in enemy territory, but I think it's also what motivated him to come back with her and ultimately set up the drama in season 3, so I get why it was done this way. It's also kind of natural for her to develop feelings for someone she's been in so many life/death situations with over time. Common trope for sure, but one that makes sense within the framework of the show. I think JJ likes to do this a lot... Sidney/Vaughn on Alias are a very similar story (also recommend this one for fans of Fringe, btw! Sidney and her dad have a similar drama as Peter and Walter). One final thing: as someone who also lost a child, I find myself in a position to relate to Walter. When I first watched this show, I was in my 20s and didn't have children. Now I'm pushing 40 and have had children, one of whom passed away just before turning 3. I related to Walter in a very viceral way this rewatch. I don't excuse what he did, but in the immediate aftermath of my grief, I can't say I wouldn't have done the same thing he did had I had the opportunity. Obviously, this is real life and I can't, so the point is moot, but I did often find myself wondering in those first few weeks whether my child was still alive in an alterate universe. I think being able to see into a window the way Walter and Elizabeth did might have brought my some comfort... or maybe not, maybe it would have made me feel worse. It's a shitty situation to be in and I really do appreciate Fringe for approaching it in such a nuanced and sensitive way. I had been afraid watching it would trigger me, but it didn't. It actually made me feel understood.
Walter Bisshop is definitely my favourite person in this show. There is so much to explore in him and his character sets of the series. Without Walter, there is no fringe. I just love the complexity of his personality. And the acting... just another level.
He has so many eternally meme worthy lines throughout the show. There have been a number of times I've randomly responded to someone. "Excellent! Let's make some LSD!"
I want to thank you for doing this project. I've been wanting to re-watch the whole series, but in this day and age, where we have so much content available, and with life generally getting in the way, there isn't enough time for all of that. Your deep-down into the first two seasons is exactly what I need. I can remember and "re-watch" all episodes through your eyes (and Jillian's, I guess hehe) and you are making it possible for me to do something else when the rest of my time, the time it would take me to sit down and watch the whole series. I sincerely hope that you'll do seasons 3 to 5. If not, I understand. In any case, thank you again for your great work. :)
I need more. Thanks for covering my favorite show growing up. Got a lot of core memories with my family thanks to this show, and you helped me revisit them. Thank you. Can't wait for part two!
One of my all time favorite series! Glad Daniel is shedding light on this criminally under rated show. I wish this was made during the meme era feel like this show would be very meme-able.
Just finished the show for the first time. Man…. Incredible. Incredible stuff. Thanks for this video, Daniel. Helping me to decompress everything that built up to that excellent, heart-wrenching, beautiful finale.
Oh man. I loved this show. Watched it with some friends on discord and it was a blast. We played a game of “will Olivia kill this guy or will they kill themselves in front of Olivia?” Turns out the suicide in front of Olivia counter goes into the double digits.
You stillshould watch it, its a genuinly great show and a good last one of walter noble, its brilliantly acted and written for themost part, while being fun. Oh and nimoy plays william bell. Seriously , give it a try.
I watched the whole series probably 15 yrs ago but it's funny how many new shows I only listen to reviews of instead of giving them direct attention. I miss the days when I followed good series and then also listened to reviews and theory content. I
I didn't see "The Wire" until much later but mostly knew him from his smallish part on "Lost" where he creeped me out seriously. "Fringe" redeemed him for me.
"Whether we wanted it or not, we've stepped into a war with the Cabal on Mars. So let's get to taking out their command, one by one. Valus Ta'aurc. From what I can gather he commands the Siege Dancers from an Imperial Land Tank outside of Rubicon. He's well protected, but with the right team, we can punch through those defences, take this beast out, and break their grip of Freehold." RIP Lance Reddick, we miss you Commander.
Watched 2 minutes of this video, and then binged through all 5 seasons. And I have found a new favourite show 🥺😭😍😍 definitely top 5 amongst Lost, Heroes and Dark. Can't believe I haven't watched it earlier but I'm so glad I did now!!
This is SO much fun to watch! My husband and I watched Fringe when it came out and LOVED the show and the characters. (In fact, even though my Mom's name is Olivia, it's this character I named my daughter after.) I met John Noble at a fan convention years back, and he was really cool. He mentioned that he *hated* those twizzlers he ate in all those episodes.
OMG this was a blast from the past. Fringe is so so good, in the running for my favorite TV show ever. I've never understood why it just totally vanished from the popular consciousness, unlike shows like Battlestar Galactica.
One of the great things that I loved about the mirror universe is the idea that because Hindenberg never happened or at least didn't kill the industry, the advent of modern commercial airfreight also never happened, because planes are just way more expensive to operate than dirigibles. And since no modern commercial passenger planes, no Twin Tower attack.
This was a fun way to revisit one of my favorite shows. White Tulip is one of the best episodes of television ever. And the season 3 moment when Peter confesses to Olivia that he's been having a relationship with 'her' is one of the greatest acting moments of all time; the way the smile falls from her face is heartbreaking. Anna Torv's Olivia is just tremendous.
Finding out you were going to talk about this show got my Wife and I to rewatch it for the 4th time. Super excited to dive into 3 hour deep dive. Really hoping season 3&4 deep dive will happen!
Fringe is one of my most favourite tv series! I love it, I love the characters, the setting, the writing, everything about it. Olivia Dunham is in my opinion the best female lead character in any series, she's independent, brave, kind, smart, vulnerable and just so well written. I give Fringe a rewatch every couple of years.
The tragedy of Charlie / Kirk Acevedo was an off camera situation where for financial reasons they moved the show from filming in New York, to filming in Vancouver between season 1 and 2. While this did not bother Anna who lives in Australia, or Josh who lives in LA, or John who lives in the UK, it did bother Kirk Acevedo who is a New York based actor with family in New York. Hence the suspiciously quick death in early season 2. Kirk would return in future seasons to play parallel universe Charlie, but that is why his story seems broken in early season 2. It's also why Peter and Dr. Bishop moved to a new place (and a new set), and Olive's sister moved away in season 2. A leftover season 1 episode "Unearth" aired during season 2, which mysteriously featured Kirk who had already been killed off. The episode was the last one filmed in season one for contractual reasons, but the network didn't have any slots for it, so it aired on a "special night" after the fall season aired. The stand alone episode would have worked best in between "The Transformation" and "Ability" in season 1. Other trivia: John Noble was available to film during the holidays, but nobody else was. That is when the 1980's episodes got filmed with child Olive and child Peter.
Daniel you have now made me so extremely hype for a show I didn't really know existed. I cannot thank you enough. Don't think I could have watched this video from anyone else
Truer words have never been spoken than your title. This is the most underrated show of all time. The incredible plot twists and turns. I've never appreciated being wound into a mental pretzel more than what this show did to me. Even without the sci-fi, there is so much heart and feeling. This show had all of this in spades and blew my mind. I'm so glad I saw it originally.
Wow. Thank you so much for this video, Fringe was a defining show for me and it's a relief to be able to share our excitement for this story. Got me into so many scifi stories and philosophical concepts. Olivia was a role model for me growing up, Peter was one of my first fictional crushes, Walter made me laugh and cry on a dime, both Jasika Nicole as Farnsworth and Kirk Acevedo as Charlie balanced out the team but I would have liked to known both characters better. RIP Lance Reddick
Chernobyl guy Jared Harris is also in The Expanse and Foundation. So he's a staple of sci-fi in my eyes. I adore him. He's incredible. He's on the same level as Mads Mikkelsen imo
Also in The Terror. Amazing short horror series about a famous ship that disappeared in the Arctic trying to find a safe path through back in the 1800s.
@TheDiabeticGameMaster I'm Canadian, so I know all about the HMS Terror. It's funny that we only just found its location a few years ago, considering the inuit who lived in the area named that place Terror Bay and knew where it went down but were never listened to. I forgot about that show. I watched the first few episodes but never finished it even though it was really good. Thanks for reminding me.
I rewatched The Expanse recently and his sudden disappearance from the series left such a void, and he wasn't even in it that much, he's just such a great presence in any show.
I had no idea there was an observer in every episode until you talked about it. That absolutely blows my mind. I love when TV shows are on that level of forward thinking.
Fringe will forever be one of my absolute favorite shows. I remember being so excited to watch each episode when it was airing. Thank you for your excitement and breakdown of this wonderful show. Amazing work as always!
Not sure why my parents were cool with me watching this show but Fringe was so influential for me. I’m so happy to see a deep dive on this awesome show, thank you for all your hard work! Great job!
It's one of the most intelligent and well realised high concept tv shows ever made. It's truly incredible. I love this show. Walter Bishop makes this show. He is it's beating heart.
My favorite part of Fringe wasn't even the show, which I Loved, but the ARG aspect they had on the Fringe website. How you could piece together the story using clues off it and all the other hidden stuff you could find. It was the first time I had ever seen someone do something like that.
Yes! And the hidden alphabet clues with the symbols like the hand and the frog that led into every ad break which you could piece together to form a word that related to the mystery. I lived for that stuff.
@@HerHollyness Right? That added interaction made it more than just a show for me. It felt like being part of the mystery, you know? Digging into those hidden bits was half the fun of the whole Fringe vibe.
This was incredible, unlocking deep memories in my head from a show that gave me nightmares as a kid. I was hesitant to watch a 3 hour video, but was so heartbroken when I realized it was almost over. Amazing show, amazing review.
Fringe is by far my favorite TV Show. From the Premise to the Characters and the Acting (especially John Noble). I rewatched it like 4 or 5 times now and will never get tired of it.
I never thought I'd see someone talk about Fringe. I love this show. I watched it as a teen more than a decade ago and it's still one of my most favourite shows of all time. I haven't watched it in a long time but i still think about it from time to time.
FRINGE is the best show PERIOD!!! Also the fact that the show was able to have a REAL ending is just Chef's kiss 😘 👌Thank you for making this video. It didn't even feel like it was 3 hours truly. You must have worked so hard on this so I appreciate it. You just got yourself a new Subscriber!
Absolutely even though season 5 was cut down and rushed through in half the episodes it was meant to have it was fantastic to have I would have been shattered if it didn’t happen and the show was left open ended. Fringe is my GOAT show such great character’s and episodes I caught it by accident late night in Australia when it first aired on TV and became hooked immediately.
Fringe reminded me a lot of how Comics can be like: The retcons, the forgotten characters, abandoned plotlines, but MAN this show was an incredible watch. I haven't watched the show since ~2015 and there are still episodes and moments I think about.
i FREAKIN LOVE THAT YOU MADE A 3HR + LOVE ESSAY TO FRINGE... I can't even image how many hours of shooting and editing this took. goddamn brilliant. I loved this show
One of my favorite shows of all time. I've watched through it dozens of times probably and never get tired of it. I really wish the showrunners had the opportunity to tell the full story they originally wanted vs the give and take from the studio. They got word they were going to have the show canceled on S4 so they wrote an ending and then had to alter the trajectory of the story to pick back up after being renewed. I'm really really happy we got to see the ending, but really wish we could have seen the full vision of the showrunners without the meddling from the studio.
I don't like this aspect of season 4. I wished we could have gone back to the original universe, to deal with all the stuff that happened. I don't like the way they changed some of the characters and even though they did it consistently and believable, it's just hard to know that some of the stuff didn't truly happen to the season 4/5 characters.
The way this show took the "Monster" of the week and weaved in the long game plots was something special. The reveal of what Walter did to get his son/not son back is still my favorite reveal to this day. There are so many points and thoughts that come with the depth in the plot and characters with just that single story. Even after having 10 plus years of that reveal, I still feel blown away at just how cool that was.
i am so glad other love this show the way i love this show. Fringe fundumentally changed me. It opened my world to radically different perspectives and point of view as well as psychedelics, the works of john C lilly ( most noteablly programming and metaprogramming the human biocomputer) , and cinama as an artform. i will always have tremendous love for this tv program.
Damn! Over 3 hrs of just season 1&2. You & everyone involved are legends. Hope it gets well over 1m views & they all discover the forgotten greatness of Fringe.
I've always thought Fringe is the one thing Abrams has done that actually works. It is the only thing he's touched that I can honestly say I love without caveats. Fringe is always part of my occasional rewatch rotation.
POI was also a great show, in my opinion at least (executive producer), Lost , Alias (creator), Forever Young(writer-producer), Revolution(ex.producer), Felicity, etc. So yes he had some screw-ups but also some great show or movies.
I would watch person of interest. I think sason one was toconvince te network toe a proceduralwith a thing.. But it beecomes really great grounded scifi. That sticks the langing and is jjust a masterpiece And yes caviezel is, a crazy actor but act well here. And isgreat as the not crazy rest of the cast. Also the mixt btwwe batmanesce nolans post bat,man , spy thriller and grounded scifi drama. It becomes great. itslready but amy acker oiing makes it really interesting. And nolans thought out mixes well with abrams doing action drama well, inus the landing, but the ending is great due the nolans. He is good playing off nolan here making it flow better. Person of interest, highly reccomand. And alias had gret first seasons. And even season 3 the rambaldi mcguffins fit in fine and good family drama. o i stopped at season , but till then i love it.
The one caveat I have is the treatment of Jasika Nicole, she suffered in the making of this show. Sorry to bring that up - but her performance is all the more remarkable considering the behaviour of some of the producers and directors toward her.
@@pattheplanter yeah. I was debating bringing that up too. I loved her acting and her character, and was sad to hear what a hostile experience it was for her.
man.. My core CORE series .. What a masterpiece . the mythology, the character arcs, their relationships… The writing is just above the 2023 average . to think this story is over 15years old.. damn.. i’ve watched the entire 5 seasons many many times. and will keep watching, inevitably..
I love this series. My mom introduced this show to me 15 years ago and I never looked back. This helped solidify my love of all things science and Sci-fi in movies, shows, and books. Thank you for making this video, now the world will know the wonders that is Fringe! Peace!!
Being a massive Fringe fan, this is one of the best detailed recap I've ever seen, and I totally binged it! Awesome work man! Can't wait for the rest omg❤🎉
Thank you so much for doing this. When my husband and I saw you for post this we went back to binge this show that we saw every episode the first time and loved. But watched this like it was brand new I couldn't remember what happened. It was a month watch with our schedule and even watching it on our cruise vacation fell in love with it all over again. Then came back to watch ur review. Love love love. I so hope you do season 3 4 and 5.
I love this show so much. I watched this when it originally aired. Waiting a week for every episode. Trying to decode the stills they would flash every episode. Such a great show.
My all time favorite show. The relationship dynamics and secrets makes me tear up every time. It hits especially hard after you know exactly what Walter did. I had to rewatch the first season and back track everything Walter said to Peter once I knew he wasn’t his real son. Gosh, it’s so good!!!
FINALLY THE RECOGNITION FRINGE DESERVES. This show has a special place in my heart. I remember watching this with my mom every week 🥹🤝 I’ve probably watched it 7x now. I highly recommend
One of my favorite shows of all time. I've watched it almost as many times as Buffy and Angel. Always something new to find and the twist and turns it takes are insanely well done. Love it and love this video!
It's interesting how there's a dichotomy between Walter and Peter. With us wanting to understand and relate/sympathize with Walter despite his action and not wanting to afford Petter that same treatment despite his circumstances justifying it morally more than Walter.
yes sliders and quantum leap the old one. it has gimli's actor in it too, thought frigne is def on a class of its own esp since being more recent and walter bishop is masterclass in acting and memorable and deranged in a good way
I loved this show as a kid, ive been waiting on daniels video on it since he mentioned it being in the works and it certainly does not dissappoint, very good job.
Have watched the whole series multiple times but listening to someone going through the whole series is giving such nostalgia . Going to rewatch this again . I love this show
Thank you for this. Fringe is one of my favorite old sci-fi shows, and it definitely helped me develop a love for the genre. Will definitely have to go back and rewatch.
I love Fringe. I watched it every single week. I love how it basically reinvented itself every season, yet always felt carefully planned and orchestrated. It's in my top five favorite shows of all time, with BSG, Buffy, Columbo and Doctor Who.
Fringe is one of a very few tv shows I have and would rewatch. Fringe is an amazing show. Thank you for allowing me to revisit it through someone else's perspective. I miss the dark humor the show gave us and the family dynamic of the Bishops. I look forward to the "second half" or whatever follow up video you may have planned for it.
It’s the opposite for me. I haven’t watched his stuff for ages until I saw him playing Sylens in Horizon zero dawn. He’d be scheming and I’d be like “it’s alright it’s Broyles what could go wrong?”
I'm nearly done with season 1 And I must admit I was skeptical at first because it seemed like an inferior version of The X-Files (less creepy, more US-police-show-y) But it's slowly building towards being its own thing, so I'm intrigued
I LOVE FRINGE! The dynamic between Peter and Walter was amazing. Both actors were amazing. I watch this show when I’m bored. I’ve seen the series more than a dozen times now.
Aside from Fringe being one of my all time favourite shows alongside Stargate SG-1 there is also another not so well known sci-fi-ish banger called Person of Interest that was way ahead of its time with its portrayl of the uses and danger of AI with a hint of 1984 thrown in, I really loved it and the cool action sequences from its cases of the week formula.
I Totally agree, Person of Interest is one of my all time favorites along with Fringe and has some of the same actors in it. There's a lot of guys limping in the New York City area ... from John Reese kneecapping those who try to stop the good fight against evil.
Fringe is one of my favorite shows and i just started rewatching a few months ago. This video was great, i cant wait til you get to season 3 which is my personal favorite!
It's so crazy to revisit this in the Marvel era where we're overasaturated by multiverses and timelines. Fringe was the unparalleled BEST at that sort of thing I think because it always mattered. Instead of new universes and undead characters and secret doubles making everything feel hollow, it was like, "No, the old universe and its history and people matter _so much_ and you didn’t waste your time caring about it all." It's the only perfect story I've ever watched where everything has consequences and literally every plot point is character driven.
I love Fringe! I was a super fan when it was coming out. I listened to The Fringe Podcast and called in theories in to them almost every week. I dressed up as Alternate Olivia for Halloween one year. I've rewatched the show many times.
Have you listened to the fringe observers podcast? It’s great! I’ve watched fringe maybe like 6 times through and have 2 tattoos of it lmfaooo, mASSIVE fan!!

How are you enjoying it?? 🎉 And does this mean you're doing a series reaction?? 😀
My dad worked on Fringe and X Files, I got to visit some of the sets as a kid. Glad to see it getting some love!
My envy of you is astronomical.
You have a cool dad !
So cool! Did they experimented on you as well? Any adult paranormal abilities?
No way!! That's too cool!
Sweet!
Was so happy when I saw her in the last of us 😊
I guess she turned 30? That's the usual reason.
@@lrvogt1257 I was going to say, she obviously went home. She has had a pretty solid acting career in Aus since Fringe.
@@dohadeer8242 : Mindhunter is a great show and she was marvelous on The Last of Us. Secret City is also excellent.
I worked with John Noble in 1989 in my early days of professional theatre in Adelaide, South Australia. I was his assistant. He taught me so much about the business and is one of the nicest people you could ever meet. I still remember his advice all these years later now working in tv/film. ❤
thats awesome to know that!
What was his advice? What was he like back then?
His acting skills, mimic, presenting emotions are incredible!!
@B0risTheBlade too much to go into here but, after working with a lot of famous people since, John is at the top of the list of nicest. 😊✨️🇦🇺🎭
You were his assistant? Is your name Asteroid?
Absolutely in awe at the existence of this video. Sometimes it feels like this show itself is from another dimension and that’s why so few people seem to know about it.
Getting to hear someone, especially a creator I admire, talk about it for three hours is the greatest possible gift!
Oh hey there, didn't expect to see you here
I sincerely wish more people knew this show. It's my favourite ever and I have no one to talk to about it lol!! thank you so much for making this I cant wait to listen to what you have to say. Everyone, believe me if you watch it you'll never regret it! Season 1 is a lil tough to get through but after that it's just amazing
Omg fancy meeting you here!
S1 is great it's even one of the better seasons on rewatch
Ohhh, so cool to see that you're a fan!! This show literally ignited my love for sci-fi as a kid.
Also excellent opening song
Most definitely! Been my smartphone ringtone since 2012@@Bhaalg0rn
That is gold ☺
IMO, he's the most underrated actor in Hollywood. He deserved multiple Emmy awards for his work on Fringe. It's crazy to me that he was never even nominated.
Hi! I’m that one guy, appreciate the shout out! Love Peter and Josh’s performance in this show, thought he did the most with the writing he was given every episode.
White Tulip always makes me cry. John Noble is just phenomenal in this entire series. And I'm glad anyone at all is giving light to this show.
Never liked white tulips, planted some next season after watching this
I love Peter Weller being a Roboscientist it's a cute little nod.
@@Apytiksliai : That is very sweet. I loved the episode. And they tie it through. Very clever writing.
One of the best episodes of a television show that I've ever seen. Also one of my favorite time travel stories of all time.
White Tulip was phenomenal
John nobles performance across the series is fantastic. His portrayal of the depths of madness and the possible redemption just awesome.
pretty strange he didnt get any awards for Walther/Walthernate!he did win the Saturn award, what ever that is, for Walther!the ruthlessness of Walthernate was a nice contrast to Walthers wasted/drugged portrayal once in a while!
it was such a shock when he played Walthernate, so sure of himself and sane !
same with anna torv as olivia i feel the same wither as well
The sheer range of emotions that John Noble was able to convey on an episode to episode basis could barley be matched by most actors during their entire careers.
i agree but i also felt that way about anna torv as well they both were outstanding and i loved the rest of the cast as well including josh jackson i just feel they all derserve as much credit as john noble esp torv the acting chemisty with the 3 of them was awesome@@pedroaloha301
Yes yes yes please!
Agree agree..I may even subscribe...lol
I love Fringe. I didn't mind Joshuas performance. I thought his understated delivery was a good counterpoint to John Nobles mania. Also as an Aussie, I always found it hilarious that Fauxlivia had bangs as Anna and John are also Aussies and we call them fringes :D
Oh, That's clever.
I thought the juxtaposition between Walter and Peter was perfectly portrayed by the actors.
i'd say that joshua's performance made perfect sense in that his backstory has a whole lot of father-related issues, and a core undercurrent of the whole show is the father-son / parent-child bond.
Fringe was the last time I put an alarm to watch conventional TV.
Finally someone giving Charlie the praise he deserves no matter how dirty Fringe did him!
Kirk is often done dirty in his shows
@@moderatecanuck not in Band of Brothers. He is awesome in that.
@@moderatecanuck Well, in OZ, he lives through the whole show, but he would be better off dead.
charlie was the start of a running joke my dad and i had where i wasn’t allowed to have a favorite character because they always DIED
Makes me wonder why they would even need to be nude. It's a primetime network show so they can't really show a lot of nudity
I still watch this series, Walter Bishop is one of my all time favorite characters ever created.
My wife and I call anyone in an alternate universe a Walternate.
@@Stavroization Oh adorable!
I am so glad Gene is finally getting the recognition she deserves.
Fringe has always had a special place in my heart. The last conventional TV show that I absolutely loved - and then streaming ruined everything.
I was going to comment about breaking bad, but then I checked their dates, and both of them ran for 5 years, both of them from 2008 to 2013.
Literally the last network TV show my wife and I watched start to finish. I saw NBC was bringing back Night Court and just couldn't help but think network TV is a dead horse that corporate money continues to kick.
Both had evil Walters, but Person of Interest was also damn fucking good.@@luminousdragon
Have you watched The Expanse? These two compete as my favorites.
Hope this helps!
yep, just like all the other cool ones on during that time, except those DID get all canceled. :(
I never thought I'd spend 3 hours and 15 minutes watching someone summarize a show I like episode by episode, but here I am, because that was thoroughly entertaining!
Love John Noble in everything he stars in, especially as Walter. Fabulous actor. 👍
He has so many eternally meme worthy lines throughout the show. There have been a number of times I've randomly responded to someone. "Excellent! Let's make some LSD!"
Whenever I come back to watch John nobles acting I get angry all over again he didn’t win an Emmy every year of fringe!
cant forget olivia peter and astrid i love them as much as walter
Commenting again to say Olivia is a perfect “strong female character “ She’s a person and a badass at the same time.
and she is still feminine as well. she is a woman who is strong and yet they are not afraid of showing her weaknesses.
its sad when people associate everything with gender lol
@@vincenthammons-kd9du : It's not all about gender but it's not irrelevant.
@@lrvogt1257 how is being a woman relevant?
@@vincenthammons-kd9du : It's not a loan application. It's part of who her character is. How would it not be relevant?
What made the Walter/Peter storyline completely relatable is that, as any parent will tell you, they would break the world to save their children.
I would to bring my mom back, too.
I would break the universe to bring my wife back.

Oh man. I loved this show. Watched it with some friends on discord and it was a blast. We played a game of “will Olivia kill this guy or will they kill themselves in front of Olivia?” Turns out the suicide in front of Olivia counter goes into the double digits.
currently watching the entire series for about the sixth or seventh time through. This video is also great! Thank you for posting this.

I watched the whole series probably 15 yrs ago but it's funny how many new shows I only listen to reviews of instead of giving them direct attention. I miss the days when I followed good series and then also listened to reviews and theory content. I
Such a terrific sci-fi series, so many stellar performances. R.I.P. Lance, still missed.
He's well protected, but with the right team, we can punch through those defences, take this beast out, and break their grip of Freehold."
RIP Lance Reddick, we miss you Commander.
This was the first show I saw him in. Broyles was so underrated.
Watched 2 minutes of this video, and then binged through all 5 seasons. And I have found a new favourite show 🥺😭😍😍 definitely top 5 amongst Lost, Heroes and Dark. Can't believe I haven't watched it earlier but I'm so glad I did now!!
I just finished this show and Lost also happens to be one of the shows I'm watching currently (I'm also watching Grimm)
Didn't have an iconic, simple premise. Which I loved, but apparently masses easily forget things that are not simple :-)
I give Fringe a rewatch every couple of years.
your dead on about olivia there! thats the way i view her character as well i woukld as sweet and empathic as well! huge credit to anna torv
Yes! Charlie was a great character, and perfectly played. One of the only people that felt like they worked out of Boston.
Terrible terrible actor ...
Dont forget the banger classic scifi Lost in space (1998 ver) where he shows up as grown-up Will Robinson! 😂
Also in The Terror. Amazing short horror series about a famous ship that disappeared in the Arctic trying to find a safe path through back in the 1800s.
@TheDiabeticGameMaster
I'm Canadian, so I know all about the HMS Terror.
I love Jared Harris!
I had no idea there was an observer in every episode until you talked about it.
That absolutely blows my mind. I love when TV shows are on that level of forward thinking.
Slow down the intro scene .it will blow your mind
I HAD NO IDEA!
I didn’t realize this, either, although I knew about Lost’s. Hm!
whoah!! I'm so sad I missed out on this!!! I wonder if it's documented anywhere...
Thank you for bringing attention to one of my all time favorite shows. It deserves to go viral and make everybody involved famous again.
They almost didn't get to have a true ending. Had to compress it down into a single season. Glad they managed it though
It’s sad how many people have never even heard of this show. It’s in my top 3 series of all time.
i FREAKIN LOVE THAT YOU MADE A 3HR + LOVE ESSAY TO FRINGE...
Peter and Walter's relationship is one of my favorite parts of the show and re-establishing a different version of it in season 4 was great to watch.
I still look at Denethor when rewatching LotR and think, Walternate.
I don't like this aspect of season 4. I wished we could have gone back to the original universe, to deal with all the stuff that happened. I don't like the way they changed some of the characters and even though they did it consistently and believable, it's just hard to know that some of the stuff didn't truly happen to the season 4/5 characters.
one of the best shows ever watched in my 30 years of life. Anna Torv it's just amazing. Would be amazing if she could play in Bosch Legacy
I loved how it all paid off in season 5.
This is my all time favorite tv series. There’s so many layers to the story and the character are so complex and dynamic.
i am so glad other love this show the way i love this show.
I so agree. I have and do say the same
POI was also a great show, in my opinion at least (executive producer), Lost , Alias (creator), Forever Young(writer-producer), Revolution(ex.producer), Felicity, etc. So yes he had some screw-ups but also some great show or movies.

Can’t believe you made a video about this gem of a show. It was so good and no one knows about it.
I have to stop watching 13 mins in...
but only because you've convinced me to binge this show...
be right back....
I have always loved Fringe and it brings me great joy to listen to you talk about Fringe for 3 hours! I feel another Fringe rewatch coming soon!
It's interesting how there's a dichotomy between Walter and Peter. With us wanting to understand and relate/sympathize with Walter despite his action and not wanting to afford Petter that same treatment despite his circumstances justifying it morally more than Walter.
I was OBSESSED with Fringe when it came out. What a great show it was. And Pacey!!!!
If you’ve seen this, please make sure you’ve also seen Sliders
yes sliders and quantum leap the old one. it has gimli's actor in it too, thought frigne is def on a class of its own esp since being more recent and walter bishop is masterclass in acting and memorable and deranged in a good way
I loved this show as a kid, ive been waiting on daniels video on it since he mentioned it being in the works and it certainly does not dissappoint, very good job.
Over three hours about my favorite show ever. You are my hero.
This is the retrospective analysis and review that this show needed, and deserved. Amazing work!
Have watched the whole series multiple times but listening to someone going through the whole series is giving such nostalgia . Going to rewatch this again . I love this show
I'm like 10 minutes into this and I've already looked up where I can watch Fringe and fully intend to start binging it tonight
I LOVED fringe and recently rewatched it and was happy to see it held up well. Thanks for the video!
Great video, love the show and having this style of recap and analysis is a quick way to relive it again. Bring on more!
I'm used to seeing Lance Riddick play Machiavellian types, so I was surprised by how not-evil he was in this show.
It’s the opposite for me. I haven’t watched his stuff for ages until I saw him playing Sylens in Horizon zero dawn. He’d be scheming and I’d be like “it’s alright it’s Broyles what could go wrong?”
“I got four new bebbies.”
I haven't heard of Machiavelli since highschool
He didn't play evil roles in The Wire or Oz. Lost is the only one where his character had shady, murky intentions that I have seen
I'm nearly done with season 1
And I must admit I was skeptical at first because it seemed like an inferior version of The X-Files (less creepy, more US-police-show-y)
But it's slowly building towards being its own thing, so I'm intrigued
One of my favorite shows of all time. I still think about it to this day. Glad I’m not the only one. Thank you for making this!
Omg yes to SG-1!
I just want to say I watched all of Fringe last few weeks just so I could appreciate this gargantuan work by our Goblin. No doubt, it was very good.
Instead of new universes and undead characters and secret doubles making everything feel hollow, it was like, "No, the old universe and its history and people matter _so much_ and you didn’t waste your time caring about it all."
It's the only perfect story I've ever watched where everything has consequences and literally every plot point is character driven.
