  • Our friends trade in their BMW X5 45e PHEV for a Kia EV9 GT-Line. Check out Nic's thoughts on going from a PHEV to an EV, a BMW to a Kia, and the lease deal that he got at Fort Collins Kia.
    To be clear, this video is not sponsored by Fort Collins Kia, and they gave Nic a similar deal that they would give any of you, we just love working with them and it's cool to find a great dealer which is becoming increasingly rare.

    We did SIMILAR back in March: traded in wife's beloved Kia Sorento SX Prestige PHEV for the brand new Kia EV9 Light... and LOVE IT.
    We had leased the Sorento and was into two years of a three year lease. We had leased this vehicle for this EXACT reason: to 'wait' patiently for a THREE-ROW seated SUV pure EV.... KIA came to the rescue before FORD did(and, if they ever do, with a EV EXPLORER).
    We traded it in, with the balance of the lease as part of the deal - trade-in allowance was basically the price we owed for the lease balance.
    We LEASED the new EV9, to INCLUDE the full TAX REBATE, and immediately PAID OFF THE LEASE, in full, the very next month, never having made a single 'lease' payment.
    Our '22 F150 LIGHTNING and a new '24 EV9 in the carport looks good, feels good, drives good, and IS good : ) it's ALL good : )
    Both are SR battery packs, and we ROAD TRIP all the time, and love it!

    We had a Niro PHEV, certainly a few steps below a BWM PHEV but we didn't keep it long either. PHEVs just aren't that good and once you buy one you find it uses the gas engine much more than you expected. 30-40 miles of range just isn't that much in the real world and they need to be charged constantly and after every drive. We traded it for an Ioniq 5 and it's been much better in every way. I see no reason to go back to a PHEV anymore.

    I bought an EV9 from that dealer too and had it shipped to Alabama and tho their people were pretty fantastic and the deal was good, the process it a bit lengthy and cumbersome. I understand why they do it how they do, but just so people know, it is a bit of a process to go thru to buy and ship. Also, my vehicle arrived with a nail in the tire, but they took care of me and got it shipped to my local Kia (They could not get a hold of that tire for what would have been weeks...) and it's been well taken care of. All in all, a really good dealership to deal with, if your local Kia places are not acting right. One of ours wouldn't honor the $7500 Kia discount without financing thru Kia and the other dealers didnt have the spec we wanted.

    • @kimolas
      @kimolas 23 дня назад

      The 7500 discount only ever applies if you're leasing through Kia financial. EV9 is not assembled in the US so you can't get the consumer version of the 7500 tax credit. However, Kia financial is allowed that credit if they are financing the lease.
      This is exactly the same for every single EV from every brand that is ineligible for the consumer version of the federal EV credit. It also works the same way if you're ineligible due to not meeting the income limits (150k single, 300k joint); you can't get ANY EV with the 7500 credit, unless you lease, which is a sort of loophole.

    If your CB panel can handle the load, you could just swap the 30 amp breaker for a 50 amp breaker and set your charge station for 40 amps (to allow for the 20% overhead). You'd be able to charge quite a bit faster. A new build home with only a 30 amp breaker on a NEMA 14-50R is anemic.

IE: towing mileage; if you had a truck that could tow for 300 miles, for closer to the cost of an ICE truck, the sales will def be better. … assuming electricity is still relatively cheap, but who knows what will happen in that timeline!

    Consumer Reports (CR) has guidelines on how to purchase or lease a new vehicle. CR often even knows what the dealer paid the manufacturer for the vehicle. I used the service once and made one mistake. Maybe two. The first mistake was showing the sales rep the price he paid for the car and asking how close could he could meet that price. He rejected me immediately and wouldn't talk. The other mistake was getting a deal that we ultimately accepted but we allowed the guy to put a timeline on us. We should have walked. There are other dealers. The car was not the best in its class but it was near the top. We/I drove it for 20 years.
    Anyway, I feel compelled to comment because the deal making with the trade-in sounded complicated. That's what dealers like. CR tries to simplify the process by doing the math before you approach the dealership. Know what you want or can afford to pay. The new vehicle and the old vehicle should never be mixed. Can you imagine buying a new pair of jeans and including the pair you're wearing as a trade ln?
    I'm not a fan of CR's overall take on EVs, but buying and selling a vehicle is largely the same regardless of how it is powered.

      @@AbolishCommunism it might be, but he specifically stated he might want to charge an ev. It costs $20 more for a 50amp GFCI breaker (I assume the house is new enough and the electrician was aware that a GFCI breaker was required).
      Just install the 50 amp breaker. And use an industrial rated 14-50 socket.
      Unless of course the electrician went 8/3 or worse. Just thought about that.

    • @kimolas
      @kimolas 23 дня назад +1

      If you check the residual, it's likely a very good deal in the sense that a lot of total lease payments + buyout end up costing 16k under MSRP for these EV9s. Depends on your lease terms (Kia sets the residuals and MFs, only certain combos of trim and lease durations will trigger the extra cheap lease deals). So you can end up saving over 15k off sticker just by leasing and then immediately paying off the remainder of the lease and buying the vehicle.
      See leasehakr for more such lease deals.

    • @Gurture11
      @Gurture11 23 дня назад

      @@HDHQDIRECT If we assume all EVs have a park “gear” then a start/stop button is redundant. If you want to drive you put it in drive, if you are done put it in park. Pressing “Start” then selecting “Drive” or selecting “Park” then pressing “Stop” is unnecessary. We aren’t starting up or shutting down an engine so why do we need a button for it? And as mentioned in the video, some EVs don’t “shut down” automatically when you exit the vehicle. You have to press the button to “turn it off.” I have no problem with buttons but it seems like a silly design that a lot of manufacturers are holding on to from their history designing ICE vehicles.

    • @Gurture11

      @@Smidge204 I’m not sure I understand. Typically the only use of the Start/stop is if you want to drive. If you are sitting in the car while parked what are you turning off? I’d like to start by saying I really like how it looks I really love the interior especially but as somebody whose family member works as a specialist at Kia warranty services I will say that I hear the worst things about Kia EV’s as of lately. Kia EV’s have given Kia warranty services a lot of issues and the dealerships are the worst and will go through every avenue not to help. People are calling nonstop and complaining about how the batteries don’t hold charge after a few months how the sunroof are literally exploding at the slightest tweaking of the vehicle over speed bumps or turning out of steep driveways where they are at awkward angles and some of the EV‘s are just straight up catching fire. Kia has kept this under wraps pretty well, but if you go on forums and start doing some digging you will see that Kia EV’s are actually doing horrible. Kia cannot keep up with the complaints so when you go to a dealership, they will refer you to customer service hotline customer service hotline will then refer you back to the dealership and you’ll be ping-ponging between the two trying to get a straight answer. Meanwhile your car is either not working or broken my family member has been working for Kia services for a long time and has forbid any of my family from buying a new Kia. Kia is looking great like I said but the service and issues as of right now are worth the safety of a family member in my opinion. Again don’t take my word for it look those issues up on forums and you make your own decisions.
