- The Kia EV9 doesn't do small, but it does do 6/7 seats and a hugely impressive interior to boot!

Saw my first EV9 on the road yesterday - Definitely a Range Rover alternative - judging by the way the tool at the wheel cut across two lanes of traffic to make a last minute turn off! 🙂
Had ours for about a month now! 3 kids and sometimes grandma in the 6 seat version! We love ours! Upgraded from the Sorento
Same here. Had the last two generations of Sorento and this seemed like a natural progression from the PHEV. It is wide though. Especially in some of the tight multi story car parks here, really seems designed for the American market. Also main touch screen is just too far a reach. Otherwise, brilliant.
I'm just at the start of the video, but I went to see one in my local dealership on Thursday and the word you used - colossal - is the exact word I used when whatsapping my dad afterwards! It really is an absolute beast of a car, and A) If I had £65k and B) If my company supported EV cars then I would certainly be looking at one of these. Even if it meant having another kid just to convince my wife we need one! :D
KIA is producing some fantastic vehicles. This one is a perfect fit for North American roads and long road trips.
The design is good. The performance is good. The efficiency is good.
Saw one last week. Perfect if you need to transport a couple of bodies in the boot. Also available in gangster black.
Great looking car we have the Hyundai & Genisis version to look forward to as well
I’m getting one in two years time! Let depreciation do its job! 😊
It’s like the evil (friendly) twin of compound interest. This car is fugly though unfortunately.
Just had to pause the video and comment on the transition of the bonnet close into the front drivers door close. *chef’s kiss*
I don't get why an EV like that has such a massive bonnet. If it were more ID.buzz shaped, then it would be shorter without compromising on the amount of seating inside.
The ID buzz looks awful.. only VW would design such a disaster.. kia overtaking in style
You said cool volvo esq 😂 two words in never thought I'd here in one sentence 😂
Mercedes EQB is another EV 7 seater - been around for a while but only 66.5kW usable.
I really wish this car had the swiveling second row seats in the United States.
I'd love one of these. Although the Citroen e-Berlingo XL (7 seats) is more my budget level.
You often get longer than 6 hours on intelligent, 8-9 is typical if you set 80%+ from a low %
You're driving the six seat version with the centre seats that swivel, the seven seater forsakes the swivel seats and has a bench that makes it a seven seater.
You probably knew that but didn't make it obvious in the video.
A green version of the Chelsea Tractor!
There is nothing green about this monstrosity.
Supports V2X 96kwh home storage battery!
How does it compare to the e-berlingo? It also has a 7 seat version.
The EV5 that’s coming I think may be very impressive - features similar I hope but not soooo big - however my brother who has seven seats and often fills all could well see this as the perfect car!
I'd like to see you and Harry take this round the North Coast 500! 😜
The visibility really is impressive.
Cheers Andy did you get your £50.00 from octopus energy I did cheers . I’ve ordered a E Berlingo because of on of your videos, I’m a wheelchair user and can’t wait if you need to show it in a video let me know cheers Andrew
Does the Merc EQB have a 7 seat option?
The gimmick that really surprised me was...the rear view mirror. During a test drive I tried to adjust it, as it looked like that 'dimmed' view you get when you flick the lever. gave up and flicked the lever and WOW! IT'S A CAMERA! I suppose that it's jst so darned long that a standard mirror wouldn't work.
Nice practical vehicle thanks
I know someone who drives a diesel pickup for no other reason than that occasionally they need to tow a 2-tonne horsebox; even without the need for 6 seats this would be a good fit for them
So it does off road OK?
This is how eV cars should be, but once again EV, love the tech, still hate the price 😢
I’m going to buy one ❤
Cheers guys
For a 'massive' car, it's only 20cm longer than a VW Touareg which isn't considered massive, or a BMW X5. So it's also a spacious 5 seater with massive boot for travelling, with room for extra people when needed. So for me it will be knocking out a 3.0 SUV, and on many occasions a transport to carry 6-7 people and kit around, instead of using 2 cars. And zero emission EV to boot.
I love it .
My kia regularly picks up a speed sign at 80mph in the UK, you'd think they could do some code that says this isn't the speed limit on any road here but no
Like when we are going though a 20 near me and it picks up a 110?!😂
well we love big car here in south east asia. especially in my country, indonesia. rich people love to buy big car like Mitsubishi Pajero, Toyota Land Cruiser / Fortuner / Alphard , Nissan Xtrail even the road is not wide. they love big car becasue the road is not so smooth with so many pot holes. the car market here selling more big van / mpv / suv with 6-7 seats
I used to have a Renault Grand Scenic. It also had 7 usable seats, loads of luggage space, a flat floor and innovative features. If it had been electric, it would have been perfect. And it didn't fill a football pitch.
The Lane Keep assist is a good idea but should be simple to turn off and only Fiat in the 500e made its imp,e to so on a stork… great review, informative, entertaining and engaging…
The towing capability is what I want it for. Only a handful of other EVs can tow over 2 tonnes, only the iX can match the 2.5 tonnes, and that thing's been beaten with the ugly stick.
Me, wife, 2 kids and 2 dogs or me and kids & friends.
Oh, and towing with it, B+E is vehicle weight 3.5 tonnes + towing 3.5 tonnes. The old category B was limited to 3.5 tonnes combined (passed post 1st Jan 97).
One other thing, in case anyone was curious, like me, the insurance isn't as bad as you'd think. I did a comparison, EV6 GT Line S was £570, EV9 GT Line S was £780. An entry-level Range Rover comes in at over £1500.
Anybody got 80 grand to spare?
Maybe a Sorento - sized EV7 that can still pull 2.5 tonnes would be a better option.
Promising for the EV5
Yeah, we have been told July in our market, Chinese made and up to 88kwh battery. Also expecting the EV3 this year, which is Seltos size.
OMG. It’s a Kia Soul 3XL. Same range, same colour as ours, same shape, just super-economy size… but if I had my choice, I’d go for an EV6.
Those captains chairs in the second row look good, unfortunately due to the nanny state and backwards thinking Australia doesn't get them in our EV9's.
Do you have a Tuscon PHEV review
Not really.
Tend to stick with full EVs.
ruclips.net/video/ysj0LnvgQ04/видео.html
Oooh actual towing capacity
I see this as a Range Rover replacement or even a better ID buzz
Unlike a Range Rover, it won't begin letting you down after 2 years.....
Having all-wheel-drive doesn't make it a Range Rover replacement. Admittedly, for those who use them around urban routes maybe but then anything would be a replacement for those.
20 in the 30, lol. My Škoda keeps hitting brakes on a new motorway because it thinks I'm doing 120kmh in a 30kmh zone. It picks up a sign at first, but few km later it just suddenly picks up a sign from a database on some parallel road.
I couldn’t justify the size or cost, but would love one, could live in it. The Espace for our times?
I hear you talking about seven seats, but I can only see six. How would it compare with a Tesla Model X?
There will be a lot of caravaners eagerly awaiting a tow test and range with this
Apparently, the EU road safety requirements don't require all the annoying sounds and beeping to marry all the visual warnings. My wife's Fiat 500e has the option to turn off the audible warnings permanently, I wish Kia would provide an update so we can do the same in the EV9.
It’s a new requirement, will only affect new cars.
@@ElectricVehicleMan Do you know if the safety warning settings cannot be saved as part of a driver profile setting? Is this something that the European driving standards agency has declared as standard? If so, how annoying! Like with my wife's car, I don't mind the visual warnings but the audible ones are almost constant in the EV9 and to be honest, completely unnecessary because if you just creep over the speed limit by 1 kph, you get chastised.
Why is noone testing the 7 seater?
Was offered it but the dates didn’t work for us so got what was available.
@@ElectricVehicleMan if I was buying this I would want the base model longer range 7 seat model. Would love to see someone test that one out.
Nice car
“Hugely impressive”, I like what you did there.
If you have 4 children then no ordinary car can legally carry them with husband and wife. This car is a real game changer for those situations and gets my vote. As for size that doesn’t faze me as my other vehicles an 6.5 metre motorhome that’s 2.2 meters wide. Take a mattress and one could easily camp in this car better than a tent 😂
I feel like those front seats are calling out for fold down arm rests, just like the seats behind have
12:36 The Tesla model X also has 6 and 7 seats configurations.
It also has the steering wheel on the wrong side!!
Not sold In UK.
Absolutely amazing vehicle give it 12 months it will be half Price
Silly price, looks nice tho. Better off waiting for the usual heavy EV depreciation to bring it down to £30k in 18 months time.
It's unlikely you'll get your hands on one of these after just 18 months. You'll need to wait at least 3 years, as most folk will lease these, not buy them. A lease usually lasts 3 years.....
First impression was "What a stupid car". Then I remembered I used to drive a long wheelbase LR defender. OK I put ten bales of hay on the roof rack but that was a bit large to be honest. When I had my six kids at home yes this car would be great but after a couple of years depreciation. Also the 1.5 to 2.6Miles /KWh is just horrible.
A car to hire to go on holiday, but you wouldn't want one for every day.
To put the size in perspective to a Canadian, in comparison to a 2024 Toyota Sienna XSE AWD 7-seater minivan, depending on trim, the EV9 is 165-175 mm (6.5"-6.9") shorter in length, 14 mm (0.55") narrower, 21 mm (0.83") shorter in height, has a 39 mm (1.54") longer wheelbase, and has 35 mm (1.38") greater ground clearance. In terms of curb weight, it's only 387 kg (853 lbs) heavier than the Sienna. Now, you do lose storage. The figure given in Canadian specs for the Sienna is 2860/2129/949 L (101.0/75.2/33.5 cu. ft) behind the first/second/third rows. EVM quotes the EV9 as having 333 L (11.75 cu. ft) behind the third row. Now, that is less than the Canadian specs, but that might be different standards for different countries as far as what counts. The Canadian EV9 specs are 2,314/1,233/573 Litres behind the first/second/third row (81.7 / 43.5 / 20.2 cu. ft in US spec). That said, the EV9 has 683 kg (1506 lbs) more towing capacity, but most people driving a Sienna going to put their stuff inside the vehicle. Interestingly, headroom is actually better in the EV6 despite needing to fit in the underfloor battery pack. Not by a lot, but still impressive.
By the way, to further add to the comparison, at 1980 mm wide, the EV9 is still 192 mm (7.56") narrower than a Nissan Ariya, which is wild to me. It's also only 30-15 mm (1.18"-0.59"), depending on the trim, longer than a Toyota Camry. So yeah, for Canada, it's on the larger side, but not remarkably so.
Thanks for the review EVM crew!
= = = Had to stick it in! 🙂
Completely off topic thought on these: I will say owning this has made me appreciate the skill of driving modern F1 cars even more. Those cars are over 60cm longer than this. As well as slightly wider. Which is bonkers.
If someone has managed to get me into that frunk. An internal release button isn't going to help me much, as I'm likely to already be in several pieces by then.
Crazy car at a crazy price - obscene really. We need affordable, efficient EV’s not another bloated Chelsea Tractor that is going to depreciate at a crazy rate.
Yes but Chelsea tractors are super popular. I see these selling like hotcakes for the school run.
Lads, ya miss the point. It’s a capable dirt road, light off-roader.
Lots of folk comparing this to Buzz. Not sure I get the comparison both v different cars.
The EV9 possibly the better value?
ID Buzz is similar price and was coming in a LWB version and 7 seats.
You did miss the maxus mifa 9.....as the other 7 seat SUV.
Maxus Mifa 9 is not SUV it is a full size MPV
Mr EVM have you driven the base model BZ4X and what do you think of it and keep up the good work
Reviewed the Subaru clone of it.
It’s in the channel somewhere.

lol today our demo ev9 broke down while out on test drive with a potential customer! It juddered and came to a full stop! Oops!
It has the footprint of a Tesla Model S but taller
Funny. I googled “Tesla model s length” when he mentioned how long it is. Used to have a Superb estate which was superb until you had to park it. And the Superb was “only” 4.8m.
There's no such thing as a Model S or X in the UK anymore, not brand new. They haven't sold them here since December 2021.
Hello guys
Nice looking but Kia are now getting up into some serious prices.
There are alternatives if that troubles you.. Look at the new 2024 Dacia Duster....not as huge, but almost as practical, but at a 3rd of the price
@Brian-om2hh Indeed there are alternatives..... but as a petrolhead and biker, I refuse to drive modern cars with piss-pot engines that won't pull the skin of a rice pudding or last 100,000 miles. I have no issues with EVs. In general they have reasonable bhp and are mostly a pleasure to drive. I just struggle with Kia and Hyundai's current high prices complete with dull interiors. The artical is correct... compare this with the XC90 or EC90 and it does indeed look reasonably priced. But I would happily wait 3 years for a decent second hand one.
The first manufacturer to offer a somewhat affordable 5 seater electric minivan-sizes car with at least 70kWh battery gets my money. An EV9 would come close to that, but they seem to insist on selling that third row to you, regardless if you need it or not. I need boot space and not 7 seats. Even if those rear seats fold down, they just take away a huge amount of space nevertheless. To be fair, I was hoping for the Maxus Mifa 9, but it is even worse. There that bloody third row bench is always in your way. You can slide it on tracks, but it's not removable. How stupid is that. So ID Buzz is still the only option, but with a panel van style plastic interior, no windows to open for the back row passengers and a ridiculous price for a poshed up VW work van.
12:36 Mercedes EQB?
Id rather have this but would rather pay for neither of those
URGENT assistance required
I have purchased a Zoe EV from Bristol I need to get to Norwich
do I go up to the 22kwh say Grid serve and pay via Debit or Credit card as I do when I fill up with petrol in my ice car.
Contactless yes.
@@ElectricVehicleMan thanks
Nah, I don't think it would fit in with Robocop it has more of a Demolition Man or Total recall taxi vibe to it.
I think the 5 seat version of this will sell by the ship load. The level of detail here is simply amazing and given Kia's build quality, going to be a firm family favourite
There isn’t a 5 seat afaik.
@@ElectricVehicleMan actually, what I meant was a smaller version, probably called the EV7 or similar
@patrickjr11 Already confirmed is the EV5 slightly smaller than the EV6 but similar looking to the EV9. Due in our market in July, Chinese made with up to 88kwh battery.
@@gregb1599 been watching a vid on the EV2. Both Kia and Hyundai are storming things. The European legacy brands are so far behind now. Add in the Chinese wave and a major shift in production is almost certain. The EU has to bribe overseas brands to make within the union or the industry is finished.
@patrickjr11 We apparently are getting the EV3 sometime this year as well. It's a Kia Seltos sized or about 4.4 long. I have not heard much about the EV2, but I believe Kia owns the names right down to EV1
Have you ever had to deal with a Kia dealer? There is a reason the stinger didnt do well.
Other than being at a Justin Bieber concert and unable to escape, I can't think of anything more terrifying than driving such an enormous vehicle.
🤣🤣🤣
11:11 what happened to him?😮😂
We need more cars the shape of the Buzz that make the maximum use of the space they take on the road, and a lot less like this. It's not what the Buzz should have been at all.
I wonder if the comment about what the buzz should have been was more in reference to comfort and practicality than shape for instance I understand the 2nd row doesn’t have windows you can open never mind ventilated seats , the 0-60mph is a very pedestrian 10 seconds, no clever 2nd row captain chairs, Park Assist plus is a manoeuvring memory function not a full blown self parking system like on the Kia, the clunky interface controls of the infotainment system, manual seat folding and no one pedal driving to list some.
I like the look of the buzz, but for being priced similar to the EV9 - the EV9 delivers so much more practicality.
Except it doesn't which is why they can't sell them
This could have been a great car if they hadn't designed it to be an absolute death machine for anyone outside of that vehicle. Huge flat front, very high up, means low visibility infront of the vehicle, and anyone hit by it rolls under the vehicle rather than over it.
Fronts of cars should be forced to be sloped and start low down.
No-one needs a car that is shaped like this.
I hope they are monitoring all people using Lane Keep Assist constantly to tell them to hand their Licence Back as they obviously are incapable of Driving.
Got to say looks like a lovely vehicle, but a tad expensive and not to mention lack of efficiency I’ll still with our 7 seat Galaxy.
If you made the video in black and white the interior would look exactly the same.
Why such an aversion to colour??
make a great taxi
Seen one of these tother day in white. It looks huge but quite cool.
I'd imagine its a snug fit though in the average UK parking space 🥵
Yeah the EV6 is too long for a lot of spaces, there's no way this will fit at all
Same width as a transit van.😅
@@Mezman999 Its the length.
Mercedes EQS is a 7 seater
You can’t take it into Paris!
I wasn't thinking of going there personally...
Good inside , good performance, but man is it ugly who wants an Iill postman pat van
How tall are you I guess about 5.10 so it looks huge
5.65
Mercedes eqb has 7 seats, well the rear 2 are for kids under 10
no gearbox no engine looks compact and spacious
ridiculous for UK
South Asians will go for it I expect.
It’s so big ! ,,,,,,,,, if I had a £ for every time I heard that . I’d have about £2.50 .😂😢
7 seater with 6 seats
Because it has the option as mentioned in the video. It’s a choice.
@@ElectricVehicleMan ok good to know. Every review I have seen on RUclips so far has the six seats 👍🏻
@@daxter224 Just how the press cars are configured. It costs more to have 6 seats than 7.
Off street parking will cost mirrors. People can't drive round parked Peugeot 206's without hitting them.
Yeah but that's mostly their fellow Chelsea Tractors doing that so they probably get a free pass ;)
Yeah but that's mostly their fellow Chelsea Tractors doing that so they probably get a free pass ;)
I know you poured scorn over families buying this car who have 'only' 2 kids but it fully ticks the box for us. The number of times weve had to use 2 cars for our 2 children and their friends and their grand parents too, this would be a very welcome car to our 2 car fleet. Perfect for holidays too. No need for a roof box anymore with that gigantic boot and its electric! .Having seen one at our local dealer it looks really good in that blue with black finish. Photos and videos do not do this monster justice. 👏
Lovely car.
Saw this on its pre-launch at Kia in Crewe, yes it was an absolutely humongous car. Same size as what I would remind me of range Rover discovery. Roughly range is amazing what they’ve quoted but the price it’s just ridiculous for a Kia.
