  • Hi everyone! Here is my adulting 101 video. I talk about budgeting and how I make my own budget (look out for a free downloadable link this summer!), paying rent and around how much you should pay, cooking for yourself and other ways to save money, building your credit and how you should use a credit card, and a lot of other ~adulting~ basics.

I loved the part you mentioned about the fact that your first job doesn't have to be your dream job. As someone who just graduated from college this May and is starting their first 9-5 job, moving away from home, and doing something I never expected as a career, it is refreshing to hear that sometimes it is all about getting your foot in the door.

I have been post grad for 7 years now, and I can 100% agree with what you said at the end of video about adjusting to work life. It really does just happen very naturally. I was so scared of having to start a real job that I considered continuing to study just go avoid it. Luckily my finances didn't allow it at the time, and I am so thankful for it now. Life after college/high school (if you don't go to college) can be really fun and exciting, despite having a job, paying bills and having to be responsible. I believe it is what you make it.
    Good video Natalie!! 😉

So, on the credit card thing. I don't have one yet, however I've been asking around to all the adults in my life on how to use one. The best advice I've been give is, use it like a credit card. Never put too much on it, however you need the multiple payments to build credit. For example, buying a dinning table on it is a reasonable purchase. You'll make multiple payments on it. I wouldn't recommend buying lots of things at the same time, just one, then pay it off, then get another so that you have a billing history. Another good use for it is buying things you need, like groceries, you have to buy them so build credit with them. Another option is with some card companies, you can pay certain utilities, and earn cash back with your spending. That way you pay your bills and build credit. Just my thoughts, please take them with a grain of salt
