The line ''Turn cartwheels 'cross the floor'' - a tribute to Gary Brooker of Procul Harum and lifted from his song ''A Whiter Shade of Pale''. Gary played organ on this track

Kate Bush albums were always a treasure as she didn't play live. Hounds Of Love is my favorite.

Yes, this song is about Kate's real life break up with her long term partner Del Palmer - Bass Guitarist and Sound Engineer. The pain of loss certainly comes through in this song.
"The Red Shoes" is Kate's most personal album because she was going through in her personal life at the time and a number of tracks reflect her own experiences.
In addition to her break up with Del Palmer, a number of people from her life (working and personal) had passed on, after the ablum was completed her Mother (who was critically ill) and Kate was very close to, did as well.
Incidentally Kate and Del continued to work together professionally after their break up.

Considering all of what happened to Kate at this time, it shouldn't have been a surprise that Kate disappeared from view in terms of new albums for a considerable period of time.
Of course, what many didn't know (at the time) was that Kate was bringing up her son (out of the limelight) with her new partner.
Which I say 'all power to her" for stepping back from the music industry in order to give her son a proper family upbringing.

Hi and thanks for another Kate Bush reaction. This was the closing song to her 'The Red Shoes Album' and is another example of how in most of her albums she placed a sadder, darker, downward looking song as the final track, as if she can't really bear it for us to enjoy a fairy tale happy ending.
In this song she collaborated with genuine Rock legends who are both only very recently deceased. The first is, of course, the wonderful Jeff Beck on guitar, and the second is the equally great Gary Brooker, of Procul Harum fame, on organ. In the song Kate even borrows a lyric from Procul Harum's greatest song ''Whiter Shade of Pale' to match Gary Brooker's organ playing; she sings about "Doing cartwheels 'cross the floor" echoing the "Whiter Shade's" lyric of "Turned cartwheels 'cross the floor."
Added into that mix is her work once again with the Trio Bulgarka on backing vocal all of which creates this soulful, sorrowful atmosphere through which to sing about the sadness, turned to disbelief, turned to anger in lyrics like:
    I know where I'm going
But I don't want to leave
    I just have one problem
    We're best friends, yeah?
    We tied ourselves in knots
    Doing cartwheels 'cross the floor
    Just forget it alright
    Sugar?
    Honey?
    Sugar?
While this album sits well down my own personal favourite list of Kate Bush albums, the high points it - like this closing song - are very high and for me, and songs like "Big Stripey Lie" and 'Moments of Pleasure' are genuinely great Kate Bush songs.
Thanks again. I really enjoyed this.

Great reaction, she is Pure Genius ! Cheers

This album was not very successful commercially, but I think it has many stand-out moments. Lily is probably my favourite track, though I do also love the harsh, crunchy Big Stripey Lie, on which Kate plays bass and guitar for the only time in her recording history and features the violin of Nigel Kennedy. There's also a collaboration with Prince on the soulful, lightly funky Why Should I Love You.

Always the same complains : "oh it's not like The Dreaming oh it's not like Hounds of love"...
For critics, you can read again those for Never for ever or the Dreaming...
With the Red Shoes, she's no more a storyteller, it's Kate Bush about herself as others singers...

Purely my opinion, the, Jeff Beck solo is every bit as good as the Dave Gilmour solo on Comfortably numb. Jeff Beck and Kate Bush together are solid gold. Jeff always knew how to play the right thing.

Col I’m sure this song has a deep personal meaning for you as your asking for a much lesser known KB track . IMHO even Jeff Beck (rip) can’t save this song for me , I don’t find it memorable or unique , don’t get me wrong I genuinely love a lot if her earlier stuff . The man with the child in his eyes and Wow are masterpieces in my opinion . As for Ms Bush herself I can still vividly remember watching her 1st appearance on the UK’s TOTP in 1978 with Wuthering Heights , slack jawed and torn between instant attraction and WTFishness. Great artist , totally unique and I’m glad the Haniers made your day by playing it Col.

So happy that Kate Bush is a songwriter composer producer arranger = rich enough to do what she wants.... Free of crazy fans who don't allow her to grow old and want her to sing ad nauseum Wuthering heights and TMWTCIHE...
First album in 1978, The red shoes in 1993... It's OK to only like her debut, but she's an artist and has the right to change.... Her style...

Free from fans who don't want to understand that the person behind the kick inside is not the same person behind the red shoes.... 1993-2005 : 12 years and since her last album in 2011, they still complain that's it's not like in her debut...
With RUclips they can enjoy the early songs as many times they want , but they click on a song that they know they don't like, to say they enjoy the early stuff....
