Dave interviews Kevin Legore from Sky-Watcher USA. Kevin walks Dave through the 2023 offerings from Sky-Watcher including the Star Adventurer GTi telescope mount. The GTi provides Go-To capability to their already famous Star Adventurer camera tracker. To fill a need between the EQ-6R and EQ-8R payload capacity, Sky-Watcher has introduced the new CQ350 mount. The CQ350 mount provides 2 counterweight positions and allows for tracking down to 10 degrees latitude.

It's really nice Skywatcher finally have an option for us in lower latitude haha. I work in an observatory where they (wrongly) bought EQ-8R and can't use it because it maxed out at 10 degree latitude nd cant go any lower. So I designed a thick steel wedge and after two years it finally can be used 😂
It is not the first, and won’t be the last observatory to have half-baked plans. It’s par for the course and completely normal to fly by the seat of your pants through the design phase. I have helped design and build two observatories now, and I wish I would have had the knowledge I have now when I first started this process 15 years ago.
Maybe the harmonic mounts(from smaller mounts to bigger ones) would be the next step for Skywatcher to keep up with ZWO and maybe at a lower price then ZWO.That would be serious competition.GTI is very versatile but the first batches had problems with stiffness of the RA and DEC axes and recurring backlash of the RA axis due to poor design of the adjustment screw.From what I've seen they listened to the customers complains and redesigned this screw.The stifness remaines though.But I think the harmonic mounts are the future to be more competitive and maybe they should pay more attention on quality control.Let's hope for the better.
For the price point & portability the GTi is a much better value than harmonic drives, but of course harmonic drives are more capable. I agree they have their place in any lineup.

Try some of the smaller distributors. Over the years I have found that some of the little distributors have stuff that the big retailers sell out of.

Hello, how cq350’tripod works with esprit 150 with astrophoto gears on its end? Is it ticks tripod legs in zenit position? On ca 52 degrees lat
Hello, I am not sure exactly what is being asked, but I don’t personally have this mount, so it isn’t something I am able to speak on with any level of personal experience.
I wouldn't have minded seeing a talk through of their entire line.
Yes, I would have enjoyed that also but we were doing our best to make it to many other booths and it was already fairly late in the day. Maybe next year!
Too bad that you pay close to 4k for this mount and the Accessory tray doesn't fit properly. Sad very sad. The rocker design for the counter weight attachment is also poorley designed. Why have moving parts on something that should be rock solid? It was the worst investment I have ever made in Astrophotography. The counter weight rod flops during tracking, why? Also the base doesnt attach firmly causing all kinds of tracking issues. The CQ-350 is just a POS.
