The mirror frisbee is necessary I imagine in order for this to function?! Or is it for the light show?
Mirror is both curved (to keep it centered) and very smooth (decreases friction).
LOL. You got almost a full moon. Once the full moon sets, the sun rises on the horizon in sync with it. It's gonna be way too bright for anything except stars. Anyway a like for this video. The Celestron 7x50 Pro Ed is an amazing high quality pair of binos with a whopping 8 degrees field of view (FOV). The 15x70 is topnotch too, especially the deluxe version you are reviewing. That said, regual Celestron binos are also superb, like, regular 15x70 or 7x50. Another good pair is 25x100 but it should not replace a telescope. I'm talking about binos for astronomy. For terrestrial viewing they are probably overkill in terms of size and light gathering. Yet, the FOV they provide is spectacular. (BTW, telescopes are nice for terresrial viewing too as some of them have the correct (not mirrored) imaging and you can have any magnification you want by replacing eye-pieces (they are all compatible, even across various brands). It's way higher in quality than using some zoom binos or a zoom spotting scope, even a super-expensive one. I mean, if you need various or high magnifications like x100, x70, x130..., then telescopes blow any binos or spotting scopes out of the water.)
Thanks for the comment. Yes, not a great observing night, but it was the only night I had. Agree regarding telescopes for terrestrial observation.
I'm the proud owner of a recently purchaed Origin, and thus far, I'm very impressed. The imaging capability is incredible, and the "smart" technology works very well. I let it compile/stack while I visually observe with an 8" NextStar Edge HD. I eventually want to start getting better as well with more "classic" astrophotography, but the Origin reignited my passion for the hobby. Thanks for the video and the amazing products!
Congratulations! It is a great scope. You are using it exactly the way I have done. Do visual observation while you wait for it to stack.
@@CosmosSafari If there is currently a forum for sharing images, I've gotten some spectacular ones while visiting family in South Carolina. Cold (unusually cold for here) nights and mornings have resulted in some great imaging conditions. I even made a point of getting up early one morning to image some of the "Southern Sky" objects - Hercules Cluster, Whirlpool Galaxy (incredible!).
This podcast is amazing guys😀 thank you for discussing this topic with many key points that might be overseen if you don’t have the proper information, I am an aerospace engineer from Mexico and working for NASA has always been one of my biggest dreams, but since I don’t have US citizenship that might never happen, but I try to stay informed about the ongoing projects regarding space exploration, thank you and I’m doing a marathon of all of your chapters.
Thank you for the kind words. I am glad you are enjoying the podcast!
@@CosmosSafari Thanks to you guys, and I'm sorry, I think I misspelled a word, I meant "overlooked" not "overseen" hehe.
I am about to purchase an Evolution 8 upgrading with a StarSence Autoalign, a TeleVue 2" Everbrite Star Dielectric Diagonal, a Tele Vue Nagler 9mm Type 6 eyepiece, a Tele Vue Nagler 17mm Type 6 eyepiece and a Masuyama 32mm 2" eyepiece I am ONLY interested in visual astronomy. I have never been a collector of photographs regardless of the source. The thrill of observing the night sky live is my plan. I am aware the the 8 EdgeHD has better optics, according to Celestron, giving better cross field sharpness. Given the package I am planning, would upgrading to the EdgeHD optics be visually noticeable to my 70 yrs old eyeballs to make it worth purchasing?
I think the extra money for optical improvement would be better spent on the additional eyepieces. The views out of the EVO are really good already.
The mount has slots for 8xAA batteries. They won't last more than a few hours but the do work if you are in a rush.
I could not believe I had missed this, so I checked my scope (6SE). I am not seeing anywhere that allows batteries to be inserted. Which model do you have? Where exactly is this battery bay on your model?
@CosmosSafari in the base of the mount, where the silver circle with celestron Nexstar se is written. If you look to the right you ll have the aux and autoguide ports, but if you out your nail or something through the gap on the right of the ports you can lift the plastic cover. I mostly keep some batteries there in case i trip over the cable, so i dont lose the alignament.
How does this compare to the 12 inch donsonian flex tube go to. I am in 2 minds which one to buy
I have not had personal experience with the Sky Watcher Dobs. I have had experience with an Orion 12” dob. They really are two very different beasts than the scope in the video which is a Schmidt Cassegrain design. Dobsonians are Newtonian reflectors and therefore are not the same type of optical system. They are a much shorter focal length, which means they do not “zoom” nearly the same amount. That being said, most objects in the night sky actually do not require the “zoom” factor as much as most people think. In fact, some objects like nebulae are actually very large in terms of their size in the sky, and dobsonians capitalize on this. Rather than zoom, dobsonians are “light buckets”. A 12” (304.8mm) telescope collects 2.25x more light than an 8” (203.2mm) scope. The Schmidt Cassegrain design is best for smaller objects (in terms of their angular size in the sky) due to its long focal length. Objects that benefit from this are those that require more zoom, but are also brighter like planets, double stars, the moon, and if you have the correct solar filters (see my ElipSmart videos) can be great for solar as well. So I will answer in the form of the question, what do you want to view? Also, even though it collapses down, the 12” flextube dobsonian is going to be significantly larger and heavier to transport, move, and store. Let me know if you have any other questions and I will do my best to help you decide!
Very damn helpful
I too am seriously into ass photography.
Al has a lot of new toys.

I was like the sun when you said whats the easiest item to find....WIth a good filter I think thats better looking then the moon.
I agree, the sun is a great object to observe with the right equipment (and a good deal of experience). Given the podcast was related to the best things to see in the night sky, the sun wasn’t really in the plans for discussion. However, a solar observing podcast would definitely be something to consider.
Is the altitude clutch handle supposed to wobble when loose?
No. There is a set screw I believe.

Is this from Amazon? If so, which company makes it?

Ok you should know that resolution on ur “TV” is calibrated differently than your iPad’s image resolution. This includes brightness, color and contrast.
Is the disc which is spinning the eulers disc or the disc at base is eulers disc
The one which is spinning
Explain what? What here is not obvious?
The fact the mirror is concave allows the disc to speed up the closer to the mirror it gets... If you didn't know this when you bought it, your thick as mince.
Never stop. ❤
i just got a 150 tabletop for my first telescope. love it
Can you ID the model you're using? The 7x50 is that the Nikon Ocean Pro CF? 15x70 Celestron? and the 20x80?
It is the Celestron SkyMaster Pro ED

Very good video, thanks.
Great Video. Thank you Sir. Also, I really like your set up with all the unique cool stuff.

How does the origin do for planetary images like Saturn.
It’s a wide-field (low-magnification, short focal length) scope. It isn’t really designed for planetary. Planets are very small in the sky and require a much higher magnification, long focal length. A Schmidt Cassegrain design is probably the most common design for consumers that is used for planetary.
WOW !!!
Thank you so much for your thoroughly informative video.
My pleasure. Thanks for watching!
Hi thanks for your video. I haven’t taken the plunge yet but I’ve been thinking of buying a big binocular to stargaze. I wonder if you could do a video on how to photograph what you see through the binoculars. Is a simple digital phone ok? What kind of software would you use on the phone to capture images and what kind of software might you use on your pc to improve your pictures. Thank you in advance if you do a video like that, but if you don’t, thanks for sharing your knowledge. I’ve subscribed. 👍
I think you would need to temper your expectations for astrophotography with a phone through a binoculars to the moon. Planets are too small for this focal length and deep sky too dim. Daytime observations are very doable though.
SUPER INFORMATIVE MATE! WELDONE BLESSINGS FROM NEWCASTLE IN AUSTRALIA! A. SORAYA 🔮🍹🔭
I love love my 2x40 ultra wide star field binoculars. They’re great especially if you’re shaky like me. I have a 7x50 celestron fixed focus pair as well but as I get older my eyes struggle with those and I do got some shake
As an amateur, I'm still using my first scope I purchased roughly 15 years ago, Skywatcher Heritage 130p. Since I have space constraints this model seems like a nice step up, especially the focuser. I really like the compatible Alt-Az mount! I wish they would expand the tabletop sizes a bit further to 8" /10" sizes that are collapsible(like Skywatcher). I wish someone made a premium 8-10" collapsible tabletop dobsonian, this would likely have to be used with an Alt-Az mount, but the ability for quick disassembly and compact storage seems like a great idea!
How do I go about working on a planetarium? Do I need a phd??
I had a bachelors degree at the time in Earth and Space science, and if you want to do it on a volunteer basis some planetariums are open to that as well. I was at a school planetarium so I was required to have teaching credentials, but it really depends on the planetarium and their requirements. I would say it never hurts to ask.
he is family to me
Thank you for all your info. what about the increase of the temperature inside the binocular ? Is there a max duration to remain in safe condition without over heating the instrument ?
I don’t have an answer for this. The vast majority of the light is reflected away though, so I don’t think it’s a big issue
Trying to decide between celestron origin or vespera pro.
I haven’t tried the Vespera, so I cannot provide an objective answer.
Thank you for the excellent video, which made me confused, why does everyone who owns a hyperstar make it a simple installation!!!??? Why don't you provide a full explanation for it,,, You make this part easy and simple when it is completely different,,, It is extremely difficult, I hope I don't find anyone who says to contact the responsible company!! I didn't hear from them anything but (measuring the hyperstar) Correct!!!! Oh my God,,, I didn't find the answer to the focus, I didn't find the answer to the tilt of the hyperstar,,, I think and I may be somewhat certain that F2 is the core of the problem and not the focus or the telescope and so on,,, The hyperstar needs a solution to more than one problem, who can solve it??
I don’t have a hyperstar and never used one. I simply had these guys on for an interview. From my understanding of the physics, f/2 exacerbates any issues with tilt, backfocus, mechanical focus.
*Celestron Skymaster Pro ED 10x50 Model Why Absent?*
Fab info! Link for wifi gizmo SVP?
I don’t have an exact product as this remote trigger was packaged along with the Move Shoot Move Tridapter camera mount I was using to make the video.
There are a bunch of options on Amazon. They all work pretty much the same.
This Is 1 Reason I Dont Use A Phone For Anything But Information I Need When I 1st Turn The Scope On
