Exactly This! My best hobby preserver was a simple Alt/Az refractor (Omni 102). This was after trying to learn on a 127EQ which was incredibly frustrating. Glad I stuck with it

I have updated to Celestron StarSense130 and still am unable to really view anything that I couldn't see with binoculars. Very frustrated even after purchasing more lenses. I am now an expert at changing lenses but not seeing anything.

Light pollution levels? Try stellar objects like globular clusters. M13 for example.

We had a condo in Florida and I brought my scope down there for “star, moon and planet” parties. Interestingly, there were residents who owned big store scopes and didn’t have a clue on how to use them. The scopes sat in their closets. I got them started and they received great pleasure from viewing the Moon through their own scopes. P.s. They come out with a 5mm eyepiece connected to a Barlow lens and wonder why they can’t see anything. 😂 Oh, yeah, and the worst tripod you can imagine.

My favorite expression ~ Keep it simple, stupid. At least until you become more experienced.
