I hope all the beautiful ladies out there had a HAPPY MAMA'S DAY! We're processing our meat birds today & stocking the freezer for the next year with fresh, homegrown chicken. Hunting & fishing is GREAT, but you don't always get lucky. We like to ensure that our food comes from our land one way or another. On our homestead, we produce dairy, eggs & meat from our sheep & chickens. Come along for a beautiful spring day on our Alaskan homestead for a day in our life of processing & packaging meat birds for long term storage. Cheers!

    CORNBREAD RECIPE
    1 cup all-purpose flour
    1 cup yellow cornmeal
    ⅔ cup granulated sugar
    1 teaspoon salt
    3 ½ teaspoons baking powder
⅓ cup neutral oil or melted butter
    1 large egg
    1 cup milk
    1. Grease a 9-inch round cake pan or cast iron skillet well and set aside. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
    2. In a medium mixing bowl, add the flour, cornmeal, sugar, salt, and baking powder. Whisk to combine well.
    3. Make a well in the center of your dry ingredients and add your oil or butter, milk, and egg. Stir just until the mixture comes together and there are only a few lumps remaining.
    4. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 20-25 minutes until the top is a deep golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
CHILI RECIPE (I always double this recipe for leftovers)
    1 pkg. McCormick® Seasoning Mix
1 lb. lean ground beef (or whatever meat you choose)
1 can (14 ½ oz.) diced tomatoes, undrained
1 can (15 to 16 oz.) kidney, pinto beans or black beans undrained
Assorted Toppings: shredded cheese, chopped onions or sour cream
    1. BROWN meat in large skillet on medium-high heat. Drain fat, or not!
    2. STIR in Seasoning Mix, tomatoes and beans. Bring to boil. Cover. Reduce heat and simmer 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Serve with toppings, if desired.

IMHO, NOBODY who eats meat should criticize your methods of raising your chickens OR how you dispatch them. They have had a FAR BETTER short life than their neatly packaged supermarket cousins (until the moment of their final demise). Also, why are vegetarians and vegans watching this video after seeing the VERY CLEAR description of content???

Hi.. I don’t eat red meat from choice- I don’t call myself a veg.- I eat fish and chicken..all because it’s my choice. However… I don’t make comments on how others eat or live their lives… Sure I can’t watch certain things- but that’s me… I can’t watch any kills.. never have been able to. Don’t make comments.. Don’t watch… It’s not your life…it’s theirs..I love this family.. I watch a Canadian who lives on his meat too… I just pass over those parts…. Because their lives are good thoughtful kind lives….. When I look around there is very little kindness going on…

I don't eat meat since 2006, I prefer vegetables and greens, that's my choice!
But I would never dream on commenting or judge anyone else! It's your choice, so if you cannot watch - don't!
And please let this wonderful family do want they want and keep your views to yourself!
Love you guys ❤ You are amazing!

We raised our children and still do on a farm. They learned how to butcher chickens, goats, rabbits, pigs, ducks, and cattle. The ones who did not want to butcher, helped with cutting and packing. Great life my children had and still have.

From a Secondary teacher from Australia, I love the teaching and learning opportunities Parker (whole family) has. We learned how to process chickens from an old timer couple when my kids were in 4H years ago. Best chicken ever and I'd love to do it again. One tip we learned: Put a 5 gal bucket under the cones with a few inches of water in it, and let the blood drip into the buckets. When you're all done, pour that blood water over your garden bed and you've just fertilized your garden. They had the most beautiful irises around from doing this!

I have seen teenagers & young adults who have no idea where their food comes from. Beyond the grocery store shelves, they don't have a clue! They would think you are cruel, but those who go get their meat from the store are not.
I too believe that God provides animals for us to consume.

God did say "kill the fatted calf", not "kill the fatted cabbage". I don't care for chicken, but would probably like a home grown one. I love watching your channel to see what adventure y'all are going to do next. Seeing Alaska is on my bucket list. Maybe I'll get there one day.

Watching this as I am preparing dinner. Steak and baked potatoes. I eat meat and I have known from a very young age where it comes from. I used to visit my grandparents in IA for 2 weeks out of the summer. They were farmers of cattle, pigs and chickens and had 3 fully stocked ponds on their land.

Thanks so much Tina…I appreciate you always putting the “ warning” up first….if there is any butchering, etc of animals!! I’m NOT a vegetarian, but I still cant watch that, but I understand it needs to be done if we’re going to eat meat,it’s just MOST people get it from the grocery store…so I don’t think THEY really think about the process involved, before purchasing meat..yours is just FRESHER & BETTER,I’m sure!! Bless you for that! To get a card like that from James, just confirms to me what I allready knew myself..( You’re an Amazing person & Mother) KEEP BEING a& DOING YOU!!!!! PEOPLE NEED NOT MAKE NEGATIVE COMMENTS!! Everyone is different, that’s what makes the world go round,if we were all the same ,wouldn’t that be BORING!!! JUST BE KIND YA’LL .. Now ,tell Joe…I want some more “ PANTRY” ,action,PLEASE!😉😉😉😂😂💞Jana

I personally don't eat meat but I also don't criticize anyone that does. Mine is a medical reason. I look at it like this, that's your house and your business and your animals. You do what you want with them.

I actually only remember a chicken being processed once. I was somewhere probably between 3 years to 5 years old. She run the chickens head and I remember the chicken run all over with his head cut off for real. And she cooked up that chicken that night watched her pluck the feathers and everything. She was Babysitter back then. She was an awesome babysitter. That’s the time I ever seen a chicken processed and I was at young age and I’m 75 now so it would make sense back then. My mother knew how to do it, but I never seen Her do it. Her parents were sharecroppers in Texas and they picked cotton so that was her life growing up.

How do people think our forefathers lived. Of course from there sheep, cattle chickens, pigs. And growing their own food. So why not carry on the tradition tradition now. Get a clue negative people what do you eat? Some one has raised your meats. Great job Tina an Joe. 😊

This is how I was raised. We never bought anything in the store except for what we couldn't raise, or make. People that think this is awful what you are doing need to mind their own business, How do they think they get their meat, poultry or fish. At least you all know how they were raised. Hats off to all of you.

I really wish you didn't have to spend all that time explaining why you do what you do. No one is being forced to watch your videos. Obviously some just like to be part of the drama without realising how silly they look to others. Not all meat comes in a nicely wrapped parcel from the supermarket.
