We have been anticipating this day! We began our homestead in Alaska in 2022. Steadily, we've been building up the homestead to be as self-sustaining as possible. Our flock of sheep will provide our family with fresh, homegrown meat & dairy! Today, our spring lambs are born...the flock is growing & we're so EXCITED! We hope you enjoy this VLOG watching these beautiful babies as they enter the world for the 1st time. In addition to the lambs, we're beginning our chicken tractor build as our meat birds have out grown their brooder boxer & need to be moved asap. Thanks for joining us for another video, cheers!

Hey YT fam! Love all the beautiful comments on this video. Thank ya'll so much for joining us in bringing these new babies into the world! Just wanted to answer a couple comments I'm seeing repeated.😊
    1. Do you think Naomi will adopt Sarah?
    A. We tried several times to get Naomi to accept Sarah. Video timestamp: 43:50. As sweet & nurturing as she is...she knew it wasn't her baby and would not accept her. We did not try anything of the "tips" that have been suggested to get her to adopt her. We did try though to put them together & Naomi wasn't having it, unfortunately.
    2. Will the other sheep accept Sarah once she's reunited into the flock?
    A. Yes, they will. It will be no different than if we bought other sheep to add to our flock. We plan to take Sarah with us each morning when we feed the sheep so she can have some play time with the other lambs. We took her up there this afternoon & she didn't even try to go for Esther or Naomi...she thinks I'm her mom now.🤣 She was solely focused on the lambs & playing...she even ventured over to the fence to greet Samson.
    3. Can't you just keep Esther as a pet?
    A. No. Animal feed is not cheap & it's a big responsibility to tend to the livestock that we have, we can't afford to have animals that don't give back to the cause of our homestead. Having a sheep like Esther will be nothing but a headache for us in the future. If we can't sell her, Joe will be making some homemade dog food for our pups. She won't go to waste.🙂
    4. Consider getting a jacket for Sarah to keep her warm in your house.
    A. Our cabin is tiny with a huge wood stove and typically anywhere between 78-82 degrees. She's a wool sheep and while small now, she still has a thick coat of wool. She's hot in here lol...Her favorite place to nap is in the bathroom because it's in the back of the cabin...cooler, darker and secluded. No jacket for the baby lamb!🤣
    5. Will Samson mate with the new lambs when they're ready to breed?
    A. Yes. Inbreeding sheep or not is a matter of opinion. Joe & I have done our research and don't have any concerns with this. Our goal is to have a few good dairy ewes. We now have Naomi, Sarah & Ruth (possibly Elizabeth) as milkers. 3 good dairy ewes is perfect for our small family. The other lambs from here on out will be raised for meat. Samson won't be mating generation after generation. He'll be breeding the same ewes each year...2 of them are his daughters.🙂
P.S. Sarah is a rockstar and sleeping through the night (thank God!) She eats 4 times a day...sucking those bottles down like a champ. No doubt with all this love and touch...she'll be an awesome dairy ewe for our homestead.🥰
Thanks for watching & commenting, cheers!
    😘

I just thought about something. Jesus knew that after having someone to play with for the last year, little Parker would need a friend. Even though it might have been challenging for you in having to be up at night with the lamb, i can't help but believe that Jesus did this for Parker.

Hi Tina, we live on a sheep station in New Zealand and lambing is a busy, exhausting time. You could grow spuds on my kitchen floor and you really don't need to justify why your floor gets dirty. It's a home full of love and life, bring on the dirt, makes me feel much better when I have animal messes to clean up. You owe no one any explanation. Keep being you, this is life last time I looked. God bless Pauline and Terry

I’ll narrow it down to two: 1) you and Joe handled the births so perfectly! 2) The dogs were almost the stars…what troopers. Their expressions were so much fun to watch 3) ok, had to add one more. It is so cute watching Parker and Sarah playing, but the sweetest thing was Parker watching TV while a very sleepy, calm, and relaxed Sarah was laying half on his lap. Your b-roll and the night sky shots are so good!. I think God meant for lil Sarah to be in the house with you guys. She has a special friend in Parker. I'm with you it is so confusing to see Naomi treat one lamb each birth that way. As sweet as she is i agree she needs to go. Lil Easter has come a long way and is a wonderful lil Momma. So happy to see the channel hit 100K. It is very deserving. You really do high quality videos. SO very creative. I don't know how you do it each week but you do it very well. I watch thousands of RUclips channels you guys hare hands down my favorite. Keep up the great work Signed Tina from Tennessee Ps. sorry for the long comments just so many compliments i felt i need to say about this one. I'll try to do better in the future LOL

So sweet to have baby animals. I’m glad Sarah wasn’t a male. I can’t imagine butchering a bottle fed/house (even for awhile) pet. I cried when my son raised his first FFA lamb (Darlene) and he sold her after all the shows he went to with her……but then again, we named our chickens and turkeys. They become part of the family.

Hi Jeremy. These sheep are not pets. They’re livestock & we got them for the purpose of dairy & meat. Feed is expensive & our time is valuable. We don’t keep animals on the homestead that don’t give back. I know a lot of people can’t understand this. But if we kept every animal, we’d end up with a zoo.🫶🏻

I would keep the little black one for breeding, providing he doesn’t give you much trouble as he grows up
Another reason why Esther probably refused Sarah is maybe she only had enough milk for one lamb, I have heard that the mothers can tell if they can support one or all of the lambs

Usually when animals reject one of their babies is because they don't have enough milk for it. You said it yourself that you could barely get anything out of her while milking her. I guess is some kind of instinct, it's better to have a strong healthy well fed lamb then two little sick ones. I don't know exactly what happens in their mind. But I am pretty sure it's because she feels she doesn't have enough milk for the both lamb at the moment. I really don't think she is trying to be cruel. Animals rarely are...

    • @HomeFreeAlaska
      @HomeFreeAlaska  5 месяцев назад

She actually has plenty of milk. The night we tried to milk her, it was late and it had been a very stressful day for her & for us. She was kicky & shifty & wouldn’t allow me to milk her. That’s why I barely got any. Her udder is beautiful & she’s flowing with milk from both teats. Esther is not a good mother. Unfortunately.

@@HomeFreeAlaska In that case, I am really sorry for the poor lamb. But at least you get to cuddle with a cute animal :D I know I enjoyed my time nursing a kitten. I know this is different, but the cuteness levels are still very high.

Believe in Yeshua, He is the only begotten Son of God who died and rose three days later and loves all of you. He took God's wrath upon Himself, that was the punishment for everyone in sin. He died and rose to give you new life in Him. Born again, a new creation. He died for everyone and wants you with Him, to know Him and live for His glory. Romans 10:9 and John 3:16. Just believe, you must choose to believe and you will receive eternal life. If you still choose to not believe and you die you spend eternity in hell because you choose to not believe. Again, just choose to believe. Attend a church, read and obey all scripture.
Be saved, free, forgiven, healed, delivered, baptized, whole and let Him show you how He is everything you need. He alone satisfies.
Seek God and see your worth how loved you are and know who He is, read scripture. 💕
We are to live righteous and Holy because He said to and He paid for our way to live like Him. Ask anything in His name and the Father will do it amen. Hallelujah Praise the Lord God Almighty 🙏 Thank You Yeshua.
We are to live righteous, that is doing the right thing always and living in obedience to scripture, every word of it.
We are ambassadors of Christ. We represent God, when we are seen Yeshua should be seen, His ways not ours. We should be living for and showing God, living for His glory. We are to be an example of Yeshua, for the world to see Him and want to know Him and know Him more. 🙏 🔥
2 Chronicles 7:14 says, if My people humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways I will hear them from heaven and heal their land. 🙏 💖
People need to turn from their wicked ways, Yeshua paid for it. That's God stating it in that verse and there are more verses. People need to repent, to be cleansed by His blood and live Holy because He's Holy and righteous because He's righteous. Our God said to stop sinning in many many scriptures and He paid for everyone to be cleansed of sin (Isaiah 53), and to live how He said. He dwells in the Holy temple (your body) and said not to defile the temple.
He said to defile the temple is death. He's always serious about everything He said to do. He's just as serious about what He said not to do.
Deuteronomy 28 there are blessings for obedience and curses for disobedience. These go into the following generations, the 3 and 4th. Our children pay the price for our sin. Numbers 14 18 The Lord is slow to anger, abounding in love and forgiving sin and rebellion. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation.’
God has said to stop sinning. Scripture says how you are sending consequences to yourself and to your loved ones, children. By God's law you are. If you don't believe me ask Him, in Jesus Yeshua's name may you see and know the truth in its fullness.
Yeshua is worthy of everything He said and paid for, so I implore you to do as God said.

It breaks my heart that she is not getting the maternal bonding that she needs from her mom but praise God that she is not hesitant to snuggle with you. I’m praying that all the babies and moms will be healthy and strong 🥹❤️🙏🏻 I am glad to hear that you will not be keeping Esther.

Tina, try milking Mama a little more. After feeding the lamb, don't wipe it's mouth. Take it right out to Mama and put it up near Esther's face so she can smell it. If she smells her milk on the baby, she may accept it. This may take a few times. ❤ Vicki..

I was wondering if she produces anough milk for 2. Like for instance the other one does not take a 3rd because she would look after her own 2 first. Then again some just does this. But mostly we could pair them with others. We had goats, sheep and cattle. Buy the way in Africa the smells are important. A lot. Wr use to wipe the mom with a towel and wipe the baby with it. Works on horses also.

Our ram and buck goat would spar through the chainlink fence and the ram permanently damaged the fence. He also impaled himself on a piece of rebar that the previous owners had put through the fence for added support. I saw you did similar. Be careful. We lost our ramfrom that he hit an artery. Been bottle feeding four goat kids here for the last month. We have bad mothers here and outsourced some new bucklings for a change in genetics. We gave up on sheep after losing our ram and had an issue getting a replacement lamb ram.

All I could think about was the chapter in Luke where the Shepherds were out in the fields keeping a watch over their sheep at night because it was lambing season and they were visited by an Angel to tell them where the LAMB of GOD was sleeping in a manger.
