It is kind of sad how many amazing manga people overlook just because of the BL tag that comes with it. Even when it's proven time and time again (Given, Sasaki to Miyano, etc.) that the genre carries some very talented authors and amazing stories. Even some of the NSFW ones have gotten me heavily invested (Dear Gene is up there as one of my favorite manga atm) and while the genre definitely has it's less savory tropes, any BL fan will tell you that, so does your typical "romance." I've been following BL for a long time, and I think it's about time people stop immediately dismissing manga for having that BL tag, or even dismissing the tag itself. Given, Sasaki to Miyano and The Summer Hikaru Died aren't just "exceptions" they're the ones people gave a chance. (Sorry if this comes off as passionate, it's just so annoying seeing time and time again people be surprised when a BL is actually good when they don't consume it outside of titles everyone recommends 💀 like I've been reading heartfelt and well written BL for ages lmao)

as much of a focus of yoshikis greif is, I feel like "hikarus" feeling are also extremely interesting. he is a monster, seemingly called by the dying wish of this poor boy, and inhabits that boys body. getting to experience the joys of being human, but also the complicated feeling that come along with it. he's new to all of this, he feels so strongly for yoshiki and wants nothing more than to just stay by his side. but he knows he's not the hikaru yoshiki loved, he knows he is just puppeting the dead body of this boys best friend/lover. but he can't help but feel that love back, even if yoshiki feels so complicated towards him and is just trying to move on. initially he is paranoid and possesive, but eventually, after an outburst, sees that his only wish is to stay by yoshiki and protect him. no matter what happens or how yoshiki feels, hikaru wants to just protect this precious thing that he loves so much
a part of me just wants yoshiki to heal and move on and for "hikaru" to find out who he is and how to live a fulfilled life without his love. but another part of me wants them to figure it out, because they both seem to love eachother in some way even if it's very complicated on yoshikis side. they are very very cute together and I want to see them both happy. I don't know what loving this monster will do to yoshiki but maybe there's some way he can move on with the monster still at his side. if not that's fine, this is as much of a story about moving on as it is a romance manga. I feel like whatever happens I'll be ok with it
right, i really cant hate "hikaru" the way he 'surrender' after hikaru said that he wants to hate him and just introduce himself as a monster is just....interesting😅 and i believe Yoshiki wants to learn too, knowing it's not the real hikaru.

Seriously... 9/10 at least for me. The immersive artstyle just makes me re-read panels very often. There was a manga called Namae no nai kaibutsu that gave me similar feels to this. The dread... the tension... the shock-factor. Definitely a must read. Thank you as always Kito-senpai!

Ohh shit. I still remember that day when I was reading namae no nai kaibutsu. I was so immersed in reading that I didn't even sleep that night. Atleast for me it was very good manga.

There are three ending in this manga
I read a lot of people being interested in the concept but "won't read" because it's "BL": BL isn't even the main theme, I don't even know why they put this tag there... It's like tagging Naruto as "romance" just because a boy likes a girl. Not the whole world is straight and so protagonists are allowed to be not-straight as well in a non-BL genre. If you're "straight enough", you can as well handle a guy showing affection to another dude without it affecting your own sexuality and just look past it to enjoy the mystery and horror aspects (which this manga is actually about! Dudes weren't even kissing... that one guy has just had a crush on his childhood friend)
Dude, yaoi shit is just disgusting and a turn off for us, normal men who aren't into LGBTQRSX nonsense or supporters of that Alphabet soup community who ruin everything on sight.
Especially if it is explicit shit which BL tends to have, ugh. 🤢

When I called every gay thing yaoi someone corrected me and said yaoi is only when two men have passionate love and physical stuff in a story. This is called shounen ai where apparently none if that is done. Plus there is just the few times where they question if they like eachother, but if feels like it completely focuses on the fact it's suppose to be a horror.

Honestly the 'BL' tag can be pretty unreliable since it can range from anything between close friends that almost seem like a couple, to stuff that's R-18, so I'd suggest checking multiple websites to find out what something's really about. Hikaru ga shinda natsu is an epic manga, the suspense and the suspernatural horror is fantastic and the only thing that's slightly BL is the complicated relationship between MC and his dead friend (and the spirit now possessing him).

@OVO XO Well, it seems Hikaru may have felt the same way from a certain inner dialogue of his that was in the chapter that showed how he died. He just never acted on it because of some apparent family curse that could have killed Ml with him. Or at least that's what I understood.

Oh this love story tops every single complicated love stories I've ever read and watched... my heart actually feels heavy for both Yoshiki and Hikaru... or whoever that guy that impersonated that dead person.
The first time I came across this manga I didn't know what the title said and the description was empty but judging by the cover it looked like some slice of life with a slow build up of romance, i didn't sleep at all that night 😊
There are a lot of good bl stories out there. People need to look for shounen ai if they don't want the sex stuff. Shounen ai is where they mostly focus on figuring out their feelings and maybe hold hands by the end. But it leaves room for the story to be focused on more when it has a mystery or supernatural element. Yaoi, the super sex version, also has some good stories but that's....rare....you really have to dig through that shit to find the gold.
Also, bl stories are just as formulaic and repetitive as straight ones. The only difference is the couple. And I would argue that bl has the most fucked up premises and characters.
Read a story by harada and you will forever hate yourself.
I read it and boi it was a shocker with mysteries and the sense of tension just eats you up in every panel. It's a must read and iI gave it an 8/10 overall a banger manga
So glad I picked it up, genuinely an unique read in more ways than one

just finished reading what i could find of this manga and some scenes left me in TEARS. the art is hypnotisingly beautiful with the use of hatching and the buzzing cicada noises that cover each panel feels like they're a distraction from the depressing reality of this story.
it would be great as an anime adaptation but the art's brilliance and eeriness along with its extra details that really sell it in the mange would ultimately be lost in anime form. can't wait for the next chapter, i'm literally hooked.

Finally, someone talks about how good this manga is. I mean, I have not seen clips of manga critics, especially horror fans, talking about this work, and it is sad that they avoid it because they think it is BL. For me, as a person who follows BL works, especially horror ones, I have not seen any major statement about the presence of gays in this manga, like other terrifying BL manga. As if an error occurred when this work was marked as BL

I just read this on a whim today and then found this video to see who else read it because I’m waiting for volume 2
hi manga is unfinished for anime ill recommend you and has been completely abandoned,but the anime had been finished and has followed the light novel, idk if you ever heard of "durarara" its an anime with 60 episodes 65 if we count the ova's,season 1 has 24 episodes and season 2 has been split into 3 parts of 12 episodes totaling on 36 episodes for season 2,it is a pure Gem of a story,gang wars,factions within factions form,a little supernatural on the side all while a joker level villain orchestrates it all to happen behind the shadows,every character has some dark secret and it slowly gets revealed which character has which secret as the time goes on,season 1 had got this into my top 10,by the end of first arc of season 2 it had got into my top 5 and by the end of the whole anime it got into my number 1 spot,as far as im concerned there was never a more complex and chaotic story that works so brilliantly,oh did i forget to mention main cast is huge,like theres 15 main characters in first season and it just keeps increasing in season 2
please try to cover this underrated gem of an anime,i can't count how many times ive rewatched it

I love horror bl, but I can never find any because most of them have stuff like incest, Age difference,rape, abuse it makes me super uncomfortable and with some past experiences I don’t feel comfortable reading that stuff. I don’t like those and I just love plot, it takes a lot of hard work to write a good and consistent plot for a story so I love those more. Does anyone have any good recommendations? I also would prefer it had less then 4 smut scenes.
