I'm so glad you are reading Hikaru Ga Shinda Natsu! I was going to leave you a comment recommending it. I didn't know how the manga got published! That's awesome, I'm really happy that it has been doing so well even before it was published by an editorial

Awww "Hikaru" is just a little guy!
I don't really know if it's the autism or not but it's really easy for me to empathise with "Hikaru". The feeling of being other and not understanding what most people consider as basic understanding is very easy to relate to for me. I also have the same way of loving as "Hikaru", the part where he wonders what kind of love he has for Yoshiki. He is his whole world, the only person that tries to understand him and that's also why he's so obsessive about him... I dunno I could go on and on about how his depiction is very dear to me, I really hope that the serie will not make him a fullblown monster in the end because I love him sm !! This manga is so good (i'm not talking about Yoshiki because I feel like it's easier to empathise with him since his circumstances are very understandable but i love him too).
I didn't realize it's not out in English yet. Pre-ordering after seeing this review!

always a pleasure to listen to your podcast, i always discover new manga to read.... and i´m already deep balls in the game . i´m a shoujo girl and i´ve been trying hard to read classic shoujo but i just can´t seem to find it.... there´s not many licenses in spain and can´t seem to find them translated online. THE STRUGGLE!!!

And I totally feel you -- even if you're able to read in Japanese a lot of these works are wildly inaccessible because so many have gone out of print and they haven't been digitised. It's cool though that there are a couple of companies who are getting the right now and republishing them -- however the process is really slow.

I' m really excited for Hikaru ga Shinda Natsu, it'll be released in Germany in only two weeks and I can't wait to finally read it.
I'm also really excited what you will have ro say about the Harta magazine titles you end up reading. It' always really fun to look at magazines and what kind of series tend to be published in them. (And from what I've seen Harta has/had a lot of interesting titles).
Also I'm really intrigued by Gene Bride, looking forward to you telling us more...

Yeah I'm really looking forward to publishing the Harta video -- I finished editing it yesterday, so it will probably go up on the main channel next week :) As for Gene Bride, that's the one I'm working on next ;)

On the popular releases thing, it really depends. We get most of the really popular stuff fairly quickly nowadays (similar to english releases from what I can tell) and we have one publisher named Altraverse which tends to publish their stuff exceptionally early. They also have a good sense of what could be popular in the future so we got stuff like Oshi no ko and Shounen no Abyss over a year ago (which from what I've seen is getting it's english release only now). They are also the ones who give us Hikaru ga shinda natsu which makes sense looking at their track record.
But besides from that it is a game of luck if we get a release quick or at all, like any other country I guess:)
@@annanew2890 I used to search to see if manga was available in English and frequently found that either the French or German translations had been published already or would come out ealier -- so I'm guessing it's just my tastes then haha :P
@@mochidokimochi You know thinking more about it, you're right, there is quite some manga in German that isn't available in English. And on the flipside there is a lot of manga in English that we've never seen and sadly probably never will see in German (let's not talk about the french manga market that one is just completely insane and jealousy inducing). It probably has a lot today with publisher profiles and readership and the differences there between the language areas.
Ah I love this topic and looking at different languages/countries and the type of manga that tend to getting published in them compared to my own.
@@annanew2890 Aaaah the French market haha! Also the Italian market is absolutely wild! They publish manga that isn't even available in Japanese anymore hahah -- and they have so many gorgeous box sets. Both of those markets do an excellent job of getting out both new manga, as well as really old stuff.
And yeah, I think you're right on that. Also if I remember correctly France has had the longest relationship with Japan in terms of importing manga -- and a new trend that now seems to be developing is French publishers requesting Japanese mangaka to create manga for the French market.
I totally agree with you -- it's a really interesting topic and I would love to make a video about this some day in the future :)

Hey, the other day I watched James Somerton's video about this manga but he just got exposed by another youtuber as a massive plagiarist so I got curious about who he could have ripped off for that video and I found your video. Maybe you could check out if you got caught up in that. I hope that this isn't weird but I got really hooked into the anime after his video and I tried to find someone who maybe got their own thoughts in the matter and I found you. I hope I'm overreacting anyways

Is the series finished yet? Is this released in English?
it's not finished yet, it's currently serialized in a monthly magazine so it's slower than other mangas. right now of the 3 volumes the first 2 are available in english!
