I try to look down what I already own when I want to buy something new, and I wonder if I can survive without that new item. Vera, you are my inspiration for minimalist life, thank you so much for your videos!
Thank you so much Vera. I always come back to your channel for peace and inspiration to keep my life simple. It is also where I discovered I was highly sensitive. Something I have added recently is reading a poem a day in the evenings. It opens my mind to different cultures and times and ideas. It has replaced the usual noise of news. Have a wonderful weekend 🌸🕊️
I've simplified my wardrobe to follow my life style. I have about 10 items for each season, summer then winter. This doesn't count my undergarments. I have two pairs of shoes and winter boots. I have one purse. I always feel nice in my clothes and never worry what to wear.
One thing toward minimalism: It's not a small thing, but I am working on making a list of EVERYTHING I own and then highlighting the things I feel I need. Being accountable for every possession encourages me to own less.
So true that the more insecure we feel the more we purchase, our spending and buying is so linked to our sense of self worth and value, so the better we feel internally the less we need externally. Great video, thanks for sharing :) :)
This is so amazing, I kept playing this all over and over again. Your voice, your content is everything I need to hear everyday to remind myself in this journey. Thank you. Love you from Viet Nam 💝
I have a slight notebook addiction (I know that I'm not alone in this). I saw an advert for a new stone diary today and was half way through ordering it when I made myself get up, go to the shelf where I keep all my empty or part-filled notebooks, and quit the purchase. It's slow progress with this one.
It's all about becoming aware of some of our patterns and taking a few seconds in between, so we can get back to ourselves and make a decision intentionally :) So that's great! :)
Honestly, this is my favorite video on minimalism. I love the idea of looking at what to get rid of rather than what to add in. I have felt insatiable so much, always looking for the next thing and when I get that it is not satisfying. Thank you for this video, Vera!
Sometimes I definitely feel pressured to start a side hustle. Sometimes I want to, and sometimes not. I want to do it on my terms and not follow what everyone else is doing.
Long story, I was drinking a cold soda while waiting for pizza outdoors and noticed a lot of cars passing by, plenty of curbside parallel parking for them to pull if Some one would be out there selling them a can of cold soda. Cha Ching. Just help an existing business sell more food to people who eat lunch.
I wholeheartedly agree with you on this. my journey to minimalism is almost the same as yours. I had an epiphany when I study abroad where we have to move out of a house every 9 months. can you imagine how much hassle that is? so I decided to downsize my items and only keep essential stuff and buy only needed. since then I think my journey to minimalism is gradually becoming better. especially in purchasing garments, I am very particular in what I want so that saves me from mindlessly spending 😂 I am thankful for this journey, I started to know myself!
I love your energy thank you for sharing. I started a RUclips channel it's not like yours but I find you so inspirational. Thank you for being a wonderful soul in our world 🐎✨🐎✨✨✨💖
I've been feeling items weighing me down but can't get rid of things because I don't have a lot but just a small space to live in. I live with 6 others. All of my belongings are in one room. In my bedroom. It gives me anxiety and so does the fact that our home isn't fit for so many people.
I wish I could get my family on board with minimizing our stuff. I’m so overwhelmed with crap everywhere… I feel like all I do is clean, but in an hour…it doesn’t look like I’ve done anything. I don’t get anything done I want, because I’m constantly picking up the house.
In recent years, the one thing that has made a difference for me, is to stop purchasing online, and let them stay for a couple of days. If I'm still enthusiastic about them, I'll buy them, if not, then it was gonna be an impulse buy.
I have never taken the time to tell you how much I enjoy your videos! I love your calm voice and the pictures you show are the kind that always inspire me to live a simple life! Nature feeds my soul! I have gotten rid of so much but I decided this week after many years of keeping things that are valuable and I could sell, that I didn’t want that burden anymore! I have found a foundation that helps woman and children and I have packed up about 6 boxes (so far!) to donate. The weight that has been lifted isn’t even able to be explained! I feel so much joy, happiness and freedom! Thanks for always inspiring!!
Birds are beautiful. But some, like storks, tend to come back to their old nest in the same place. And there are squirrels, who gather and store supplies for the harsh winter :) Nature is perfect, Nature is The Great Book to learn a lot from
Too much stuff is a heavy burden. I struggle to not add to my pile...much of what I have is meant to sell in the future for cash....but even that seems like a burden sometimes.....I need more balance to my life.....there is an item that I'm thinking of buying tomorrow that is not a need and will hold its value well if I sell it later....a rather rare item......hard to acquire.....I have wanted one for a long time and it's a useful item.....I view it as an investment also... Sort of a savings account......but at the same time I have a bit of anxiety about getting it.
I think for most things - like quality cookware or appliances - it’s important to invest more up front in something high quality that will last a long time, even a lifetime. Continuing to replace items that wear out or break is infinitely more expensive and time-consuming. I find life is easier when I own only the possessions I truly love and use, at the highest quality I can afford. To me, that is intelligent purchasing. That’s why I depend on expert reviews, especially for big-ticket purchases.
Vera, I have always loved your background music in your videos, I fall asleep every night with this type of music, it is so true that we need to focus on what we have and appreciate all the stuff we already have and not just buy more stuff that clutters up our space & mind. I agree with you about “birds”, I also love watching them and I’m jealous of their freedom, their little feathers blowing in the wind is so adorable and peaceful. I like the idea that if I had to leave my apartment in a hurry for some reason and knew I wasn’t coming back that I could fit everything that mattered or that I needed into one car (with the exception of furniture and large appliances of course). I travelled for work before Covid so I guess that was a big influence. But also I left home with very short notice. I’d prefer to save money than spend it and Covid showed me that was a really good habit. I also prefer to buy quality, like 1 good quality item rather than 5 crappy items. As a bonus this is also far better for the environment. When I get a little relaxed I come to nice videos like this to remind me.
As a minimalist, I am sorry to say your video make me feel sad, make me feel that minimalist is not happy, so depress. Maybe I am a half minimalist. Anyway, I earn a lot in China, but all my stuff can be packed in two cases, with size that can be taken by me abroad the plane. It is a skill to keep stuff down. I feel happy with my skill.
You reminded me of one of the teachings of Jesus with your talk about birds! In Matthew 6:26-27 He says, "Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?" That is some good, solid advice. Thank you for the reminder. 😊❤
You just saved me a lot of money... My fav clothing site was having season end sale from tomorrow for which I had wishlisted quite a lot of stuff (which I want, but don't actually need) your video is right on time to remind me that I don't need to buy all that stuff. Thanx vera 😘

There is something wonderful about your videos though in the way you talk about things in a very clear, practical, intuitive, intelligent and broad minded way. I liked the bird analogy. (Freedom yay) Btw, if epidmic sound is a subscription, then if you cancel your subscription you cannot use the sound anymore?
Hi! :) I recommend checking out their Help section on their website, you can find answers to the most frequently asked questions (like this one) there :)
I went to a shopping center today, specifically a bookstore. I can easily spend $100 or more at a bookstore, but I went there because I had two particular books I wanted. I forced myself not to browse, even though plenty of titles caught my eye.
@@alyk4683 I keep a wishlist on Amazon of books I want to buy, but I also know that when it comes to books, I will never be a minimalist--and don't want to be. I like having lots of books.
You could just borrow them from family and friends or use the library. We have lots of kids books for my daughter, but we have gone digital with our books, it's fantastic to have it all in your phone, super handy when you have to wait around for something, especially doctors appointments 😁
@@anaalves3658 I have a kindle as well, which I use, and is indeed quite handy. But I like having physical books, too. I like having shelves full of books. It makes me happy. The library is great, but I am the kind of person who likes to own her books. It's just an area I will always be a maximalist in lol. And even with digital, I think the restraint principle still applies lol, as it is so easy to just click and buy, so I am glad I have learned some willpower lol. I will put them on a wish list and save them for later (except for new releases that I have preordered, of course, or the title I was specifically looking for).
@@feylights166 the skill to resist will serve you well. I found that I just never got around to reading physical books, but I find it easier to do so with digital copies. I do love the smell of new books 😉☺️, but right now at this stage in my life, digital works better for me 😊
Great video. A lot of what you said resonated with me, particularly about learning to appreciate the things that we already own. After watching a RUclips video, I was desperate to buy a pair of Blundstone boots. I did my research. They were ideal for what I wanted at that time. They met my criteria of looking good in social situations, but also I could use them to walk in the park/fields through puddles and mud! A great boot to take away with me on weekends or travel. But first I made myself look at what I already owned. In particular I had a fine collection of Doc Martin boots which I absolutely love. So I decided I would try my doc marten boots first. If they didn’t meet my needs of keeping my feet dry after walking through mud and puddles then I would buy the Blundstone boots. But one pair of my Doc Martens passed the test. I love them. They meet all my criteria. So I now have a pair of Doc Martens that can travel with me and be worn when I am out socially and when I am out walking. However, I currently do not own any Blundstone boots 😇 because I don’t yet need them - I have used what I already own and love and that meet my current needs. 🤗😊
Love your videos. This resonates so much. I went overseas for a couple months in 2016 and brought two GIANT suitcases full of clothes I mostly didn't even wear.
I really enjoyed the soothing music and film footage in this video Vera. As a fellow HSP (highly sensitive person) I find an infinite source of joy in nature and meditation which, perhaps when younger, I tried to find through shopping 💁♀️Have you made a video on minimal packing for a trip ? 🧳🌞
So happy you enjoyed it! :) I'm the same way with nature and meditation :) I don't have a video about that unfortunately :) I'm still trying some things out hahaha. Plus it's been reeeeaaaaaally long since I went on a trip
The only thing I've learned is to spend on foods for nourishment, self pampering(spa/massage) to destress one self lastly travel/experience to bring w/ you...as everyone they say would leave but memories do retain then we have something to cherish with in our hearts☺️
Another good video. You don't wanna to keep buying stuff and keep hoarding up your house. Cuz i seen TV show about hoarders. Terrible to see they're homes with so much stuff! I'm glad I'm not like that. But i'm gunna declutter my house get rid of bunch of stuff and make it look nice and organized. See you in the next video.
Happy weekend Vera ⚘⚘ falling in love with this beautiful calming video 💕 I am still in my journey of minimalism getting red of the things I don't need or like.. my home looks more simple, organized than before 🏡♥️ I used to buy too much clothes and shoes now everything changes I buy plants🪴🌿instead . thank you Vera 😊💓 With love from Egypt 🙋♀️
Thank you vera❤️ so true. Nothing outside yourself can fix you.. Only by doing things that spark joy or gives you energie for the long run, you allready know what it will be.
it is exactly what happen to me. And I foud myself leaveing stuff out becaouse I could not carry it. But after getting rid of so many of my belongings and being left with a little I felt that now I don't own anything like i used to, I don't have normal useful kitchen tools and declorating house stuff and not having my books and school stuff was even more fastrating becaouse I felt the lost. I think out conciousness is expending outside of our body to the enviroment than when a sensetive person like me get rid of stuff I physicly feel it being lost part of me. I don't know if it make sense to others
Hi, Vera!! I came back to this video to talk me down from a "risky impulse" purchase I was about to make a week ago, & now looking back I am so thankful that I didn't make the purchase that I had reconciled a few times in my head up until that point. Thank you for your wonderfully comforting, insightful videos as always & I wanted you to know that you helped me a lot (●'◡'●)
Vera madam... Thanks for this lovely video. One thing I always prefer that I listened other people's view and then react. Your voice and background music is very soothing. Enjoy moments 👍🎉🎉

Hi Vera!🙋♀️💞 Thank you for this video. Too bad I missed it on the day it's posted, July 2. Felt very sick that day and ended up getting Laparoscopic Appendectomy!! Now recovering and it sure feels great to listen and watch this video. I appreciate how it keeps me planning and working on eliminating "things" in my life. I love minimalism and i will keep working on it. 💞
Hi Minnie! I'm so sorry to hear you were sick! But I'm glad you're recovering now :) Hope you'll continue to feel better as time goes on, so happy you enjoyed this video :) Take care!
Beautiful video ❤ Have you ever felt tired of minimalism? In one of your videos you said you like to watch TBBT to relax from burnout. Everytime I watch TBBT I can't stop looking at all those colours & stuff in Penny's apartment. I know it's TV show but sometimes I feel like I can't decide eather I'm a minimalist or maximalist haha. I love minimalism but also I love creative people whose nest is full of interesting details. What do you think? :-)
Yes I totally get what you mean, and I've had the exact same thoughts when it comes to Penny's appartment :D In the end, I know from myself that I'm interested in many different things, and I have many different 'tastes' when it comes to clothing, home decor etc. In the end, I ask myself which of those tastes I would prefer to have around me all day, 24/7. And then I'll choose the most calming and stress free style. Because that suits me the most. But hey, that said, there is totally room for color in minimalism. If you prefer to keep the clutter to a minimum, but paint all your walls a bright color, and have a big bright blue sofa like Penny, that's totally okay too!
Hi Vera.😀 Morning. A little blessing - coffee. Coffee to heighten awareness, creativity, thought. Vera speaks, a question asked, A conscious attempt to live my values, Google tells me, knowing all (seeing all too I bet). Thinking I am a product of my physical self and morals, values, judgement. We decide on importance to our core beliefs, moment to moment mostly. I know enough to know I don't know anything. Sighing. More coffee. 🙂

Birds building new nests with just a couple of twigs... 😂😂😂😂 145000 subscribers, and you speak warmly about sponsoring products!,, yep, the horrible fear on how you will get money to support yourself does a lot for poetic minimalism, especially if people have no kids to worry about either.... how they will make it in life.. Sometimes youtubers content and advice is so tone-deaf and redicilous it is just unbelievable

Your videos, including this one always provide food for thought which inspires me to try doing things and thinking about things in different ways. Thank you so much.
Aw that's lovely, thanks so much for this wonderful compliment Michael. Have a happy Saturday!
I agree Michael, I too watch minimalism videos and get inspired; so much food for thought... I appreciate Vera's videos very much.
I liked the bird analogy. (Freedom yay)
Btw, if epidmic sound is a subscription, then if you cancel your subscription you cannot use the sound anymore?
I take pics of books I like the look of so when I’m in a dry streak I have a folder full of ideas to research for my next book.
That is awesome Maria! :)
Now a fan,❤
Love your videos. This resonates so much. I went overseas for a couple months in 2016 and brought two GIANT suitcases full of clothes I mostly didn't even wear.
So happy the video resonated with you :) Have a happy Saturday!
Amazing video!
So well said, thank you 🙏
Thanks so much :) Have a happy Saturday!
I love this video so much that I re-watch time to time 💕
I have been downsizing for many years now and even did the less is now challenge...im still shocked at the stuff that comes into my home somehow.
I can relate, it's a constant thing haha :)
Love how you compare us to birds!
What a lovely video 🥰
Thank you so much Natalia 🤗🌷

Thank you so much Ann, that's nice to hear :) Have a lovely day!
I love so much your videos with just your voice.. I would love if you have a podcast 😁
Thank you Gabi!! Maybe in the future, who knows :)
Your video-essay is so inspiring and motivating. Thank you, Vera!❤️
Thank you so much Ana 🤗🌾🍵
Another good video. You don't wanna to keep buying stuff and keep hoarding up your house. Cuz i seen TV show about hoarders. Terrible to see they're homes with so much stuff! I'm glad I'm not like that. But i'm gunna declutter my house get rid of bunch of stuff and make it look nice and organized. See you in the next video.
Nice video ❤️
Thank you Sedki 🌻🌱🍃 Have a wonderful day
You're welcome ☺️ you too have a nice day
Happy weekend Vera ⚘⚘ falling in love with this beautiful calming video 💕 I am still in my journey of minimalism getting red of the things I don't need or like.. my home looks more simple, organized than before 🏡♥️ I used to buy too much clothes and shoes now everything changes I buy plants🪴🌿instead .
thank you Vera 😊💓
With love from Egypt 🙋♀️
Thank you so much and I'm so happy minimalism is already bringing you value :) Glad you enjoyed the video!
Thank you vera❤️ so true. Nothing outside yourself can fix you.. Only by doing things that spark joy or gives
you energie for the long run, you allready know what it will be.
Well said :) Fijne zaterdag!
@@SimpleHappyZen dank je! Jij ook😀
I love, love, LOVE the bird analogy…thank you!!! 🥰😍💓
it is exactly what happen to me.
That's wonderful, great job Haley!!! :)
Vera madam... Thanks for this lovely video.
One thing I always prefer that I listened other people's view and then react.
Your voice and background music is very soothing. Enjoy moments 👍🎉🎉

Vera for me appreciation. That's my intention.❤
Love it! :)
Having enough is fine by me. Sometimes more is just more.
Hi Vera!🙋♀️💞
Thank you for this video.
Thank you, Vera 🙋♀️🌷🌷🌷
Morning Robert, your comment sounds like a poem 😄 Nothing like a mindful coffee moment to start the day ☕😊
@@SimpleHappyZen Early mornings my non-linear mind is not good at questions such as you asked in your comment. 🥱 😃 I know it's lovely to wake to another day, however. It's almost our Independence Day! the 4th.
Vera, your American English is perfect, I'm amazed that you speak so flawlessly, did you live in America for a while?? !! Even German Girl in America has a tiny few things that are off (otherwise she is flawless too!). I enjoy your content !
I love your videos 💗🌿
Thank you so much Shells :) Take care!

@Rita 25 y.o - check my vidéó Rita you have the answer to short stays and a great way of managing the moves. I too believe that quality beats quantity almost every time. Napkins don’t count you use them then toss them. Best of luck in your studies. ❤️ Suzy

0:34 "Less meh. More yay". What does it mean? I don't understand.
It basically means less negative things in your life and more positive things 😊
I just had to watch your video again. It is that good! Thank you! ❤️ Suzy
Pretty sure you've been chilling with a monk who told me something similar lol

Birds building new nests with just a couple of twigs... 😂😂😂😂
145000 subscribers, and you speak warmly about sponsoring products!,, yep, the horrible fear on how you will get money to support yourself does a lot for poetic minimalism, especially if people have no kids to worry about either.... how they will make it in life..
Sometimes youtubers content and advice is so tone-deaf and redicilous it is just unbelievable
