QUESTION: When assembling the switch and fascia (Fig 3 and 4 in directions) the stated directions say (paraphrased) "Insert the KEPS nuts with the toothed side out". This seems counter intuitive - as you need the teeth against a surface in order for them to lock. Is it just that there is no need for these screws to lock? OR - does 'side out' mean facing towards the outside of the fully assembled table (in which definition would mean the teeth face inward to the accepting holes?) This specific instruction seems counter to logic.
Why didn’t you show the featherboard assembly attachment? Seems like the only thing you left out…and was the only part I needed to see. The spacers I was provided don’t seem to fit the t slot. They just fall right out. I’m beyond frustrated with these
I honestly don't know why this is always the most highly recommend router table in nearly every listicle for router tables. I have this pair myself and for the money, I guess it's not bad, but that table is really not very good. Changing and adjusting the height of bits and trying to fine tune the fence is a frustrating and time consuming chore. If this is all you can afford, then by all means. But if you can step up to a table that includes a real lift and a nice fence, then you'll enjoy the router table experience much more.
Very well done Video! I just bought a Router 1200AE but there is no mention of a Table or parts but am in Australia. Will follow this up now and hope to get this. To put it together seems fun watching You doing and showing it "how it needs to be done". I have enjoyed and saved it all.
I turned up my volume to hear you then had my ears explode when you threw in sound effects and spinning wrenches. Also, while this video is not a review, it is a good assembly video.
I have this table. Stress cracks develope at the assembly points on the plastic base. The table is robust but the plastic base and plastic switch/receptacle were poorly engineered for a 200 dollar table
MetalWoodDesign sweet, I receive it on Tuesday. It has what I want and I like Bosch so it fits my shop. Best bang for the buck seems accurate. Thanks for the reply
It's a solid table for the intended purpose of non-production work. I mated Dewalt DW618PK to it without a hitch...I'll really get a good test of it now that I've wrapped up my deck build. Note: screws are really soft so I'd advise using a screw driver as opposed to anything powered.
The feather-boards are attached with a carriage bolt. The head of the bolt goes in the slot in the fence then through the spacer which fits between the fence and the feather-board. The part of the spacer that sticks out keys into the slot in the fence. They are a little clumsy to install. I usually leave mine on and just slide them up out of the way when not used. Thanks for watching the video!
Cool design but somebody should make a table like this that has multiple drop-in plates for other tools as well, e.g., 5" circular saw, portaband, jigsaw, etc.
The plastic shims are for off-setting the fences, primarily for jointing. I plan to do a video specifically for this feature sometime this summer since it could be useful to people that don't have a dedicated jointer but occasionally need a clean surface for edge gluing. Stay tuned!!
Maybe. The RA1165 base looks just like the base that comes with the 1617EVS router installed in the table. It adjusts from above and below. Great question! Looks like the base is available separately, which may be an opportunity for somebody! Thanks!!
Good video - one question I want to build a Grr-Ripper zero clearance 360 degree miter track sled, but you need to cut straight grooves in the bottom of a 16" x 20" board. Using the fence, you can only get about 3" from the edge of the board before you run out of room for the RA1181 fence to slide to it's furthest back position. What is the best way to extend the bed of the RA1181 table allowing for deeper router cuts?
Your best bet is probably going to be routing by hand clamping two straight edges to the workpiece so the router is captured and can only move in a straight line.
@@metalwooddesign Thanks so much for the prompt reply. That's what I figured, it would be easier to leave the router installed and extend the workable surface of the table, but I may have to do it as you suggested.
For hard use the main consideration would be the plastic legs. They would get stressed if subjected to a side load. If bolted down, that shouldn't be an issue. Thanks for watching and leaving a question!

The plate is about 9" by 11 3/8". It's easy to use and adjust as is with good access the lock and lift knob. This particular router also adjusts from above, however I rarely use that feature since you need to reach under by the router adjust knob to lock it anyway. I appreciate the comment !! Thanks for watching the video!
I read a bunch of reviews of this table online and there's a lot of people that say their table is not flat, out of the box not flat. Have you had any problems with it since you started using it? Any sag in the router plate?
The table is flat, and the router plate solid, no sagging. The weakest point is the plastic legs, but that's no problem if they're bolted down. I've gotten good results and it's still as good as ever years later. They did make a similar table with a particle board top and that one may be worthy of some substandard reviews, but this one, the RA1181, has worked out well for me. No sponsored shill videos here. It’s a good table for the money. It’s got a metal top with a heavy router plate with leveling screws. The plate bolts down to the top so it needs a router that can easily be dropped out to change the bits. The fence is good and has tracks to attach feather boards or other things like that. The front switch has two outlets which is great if you want to attach a shop vac that kicks on with the router. I have mine bolted down. The legs are plastic so they won’t stand much of a side load without giving. With it bolted down the whole thing is solid. Used as a portable benchtop router table the legs could be a problem. If it needs to be portable, or even just put away when not used it should be be bolted to a piece of plywood to stabilize the legs. That would also give a good way to clamp to whatever you’re working on. I have made no modifications to the table, just used as it came.
I suppose somebody could have gotten a dud. The tabletop is flat and sturdy on mine. I'm still pleased with it. Bosch has a couple other tables with laminate tops, and one looks similar to this one. Those would certainly not hold up over time as well as the metal top. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment!!
I have the ROUTER GOF 1600 CE BOSCH (plunge versión) so can i use it with this table or do I need to buy an adaptor. You show in your video a different base in your router than mine
There's a lot of holes in the plate to adapt many different router bases, however, I'm not sure a plunge router would be satisfactory in that table. It works best to be able to easily drop the motor out to change bits.
This hummer is nasty to put together without videos. I had mine in storage for a few years with the router and plastic off. I had to review the manual(and watch this video) just to get the router and and plastic covers back on... There are screws and bolts everywhere.
Here's what the Bosch website says about DeWalt models it works with: "DW616 and DW618 Routers (in fixed base only)". Sounds like you got a winner! Thanks for watching!
Dust collection is always a work in progress but it does work well. There's a double outlet on the switch so you can turn on a vac with the router, which is very handy. Keeping the bits sharp and clean holds down the really fine dust.
In the video it's attached to an old cabinet that has since been discarded. That got a lot of use but was too high. I plan to make a dedicated stand/cabinet for it that is a better fit - stay tuned :). Belly-button height is a good starting point for the table-top height. Thanks for the question!
Fence is square to the table, no tilt. Adjustment is closer and farther away from the bit and secured by knobs on the back of the fence. There's also an offset, by shimming, if the in-feed and out-feed sides need to be offset for special setups or mimicking a jointer. Thanks for checking out the vid!
Thanks for watching the video! Here's what Bosch shows on their website: "1613-Series and 1619EVS Plunge Routers; 1617-Series and MRF-Series Routers (in fixed base only)".
The manual lists the 1619EVS which is rated at 3.25 HP. The one I have installed is the 1617EVS rated at 2.25HP. The downside of the larger router is not being able to drop the motor out for bit changes. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment!
The router base stays with the router table, attached to the plate. The motor releases and easily pops out of the base, then you have full access to the motor and can use two wrenches to change the bit. Then it just pops back in and you can fine tune the height from either above or below the table.
@@metalwooddesign thanks The model routers you mention earlier i can not even find in Europe. The models in Europe are GOF 1600, GOF 2000...but nowhere i can find the info if they are compatible whit RA1181
The Bosch 1617EVS router in the video does. There's an included wrench to crank it up and down from above the table. I don't use that feature very often since you have to reach under to unlock the motor anyway, and the adjustment knob is right there. Nevertheless, it's a neat feature to include in the base. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment!
You do have to spend some time setting the saw up... blade, fence, etc. But once done, the saw is great. Fairly compact which is Nice ruclips.net/user/postUgkxXh-4_3-ZT1fFWP91ZV7iVqzElr0lEb-a I did get an Incra Miter Gauge which takes some setup as well. Sorry brotha, I couldn't disagree more about the process of putting this router table together. You had to be a cross between a technical engineer and a yogo contortionist to put this thing together. I have assembled a lot of equipment in 40yrs, and this was the worst. So much so that I would have to seriously reconsider before ever buying another Bosch product that required assembly again. Rather than just bag and identify each style of nut, bolt ....etc by either a number or a letter and instructing the person which bag of bolts to use on a particular part assembly, they used measurements and vague bolt descriptions. And to make matters worse, put the identifying map legend in the front of the manual when you are assembling a part on page 9. Really stupid...and not your fault. Just a word of advice to those who may be challenged. Even after the table was fully assembled and functioning perfectly, it was like IKEA, I had 3 bags of bolts and odds and ends left over with NO explanation.
Great comment! I appreciate your points and sharing the experience with everyone. Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a detailed comment!!

The model routers you mention earlier i can not even find in Europe. The models in Europe are GOF 1600, GOF 2000...but nowhere i can find the info if they are compatible whit RA1181
What Router has the height adjustment from the top-base?
The Bosch 1617EVS router in the video does. There's an included wrench to crank it up and down from above the table. I don't use that feature very often since you have to reach under to unlock the motor anyway, and the adjustment knob is right there. Nevertheless, it's a neat feature to include in the base. Excellent review. Thanks
The stock miter gauge can be adjusted in the miter slot with a little painter's tape... this tightens up the side to side play a lot.
Heck, give those phillips head screws another good umph and strip the heads!

Samuel Adams + Spinning Router = missing fingers:)
Great video. The directions out of the box were def not the best
Thanks for the comment and watching the video!!
If a router table is necessary for what your doing; you have the skill to build your own table and buy a proper router lift....thank me later
NO REVIEW
Good video, Thank you!
So no one gonna talk about what a shit deal this is? The table is nice but the rest is garbage for what I paid it should come assembled! Wtf Bosch? Dammit man I’m a finish carpenter not a tool technician! Okay I’m gonna calm down now and go make some moldings.
Good video. Thank you!
