I can see the growth in your storytelling, composition and color grading. And I mean that as a compliment because your work has always been great. Thanks for the inspiration.
Nowdays that everyone has access to 4k high quality cameras its difficult to present outstanding footage that is special in some way. But you manage to do it every time. I love the part where the cuts accelerate with the piano… great work!
Your wife’s work is beautiful! I love water color +ink work, art is where I got my start from a child, to college and before eventually becoming a filmmaker ! Also these lenses are fire
Wow! So beautiful. I can imagine myself painting, playing the piano, feeling the colours. How wonderful your art is! Thanks so much for your inspiration!
I’ve just watched this 4 times. I had to pull my wife in to watch this. The frames from 0:03 to 0:05 are them best frames of video I have ever seen. This is pure art!
@@OfTwoLands All the other sequences are beautiful as well! The frame at 0:11 is stunning. The dynamic range is excellent. The old cityscapes and landscapes are wonderful, but the frames from 0:03 to 0:05 look like the scenes from Monet or Renior. As always, your work is beautiful work Flo!
Simply beautiful work. I really appreciate the mood, tone, and feel of the locations in your work. Also, your wife's work is beautiful as well. Thank you for sharing both aspects with us in this piece. My sister is traveling to Provence in September. I will share this piece with her to wet her appetite for the region. Thank you, Flo.
Really nice pictures (as always!) looking forward to the review. I just bought a BMCC6K FF at the discounted price. This is my first Blackmagic camera. Your videos (and colors!) have definitely contributed to my purchase.
This is literally the lens I have been waiting for sub 3K, clean but not too clinical, and pleasing focus and bokkeh. I like how it is neural yet somehow has character in its neutrality - idk if that makes any sense or someone can articulate what I am referring to.
"Clean but not too clinical, and pleasing focus and bokeh + Neutral yet somehow has character" actually sums up my thoughts on the look of these lenses exactly! So Yes, I totally get it!
Dam this was excellent and just the inspiration I needed. Flying off for Europe tomorrow to 18 countries with my Lumix S5 and 1 lens. Great light in your compositions. Your wife is a Boss also. Thank You
This footage is *spellbinding*, and the colors are drop-dead gorgeous!! Thank you for sharing this. Hyped for that full review drop. As a long-time viewer of your channel, I'd be curious on your take between these VV lenses and the Meike S35 lenses that you thoroughly reviewed in the past (wishful thinking, since these are FF; but I own the Meikes, so I'm biased. lol). Thanks, again, for your hard work and passion!
Thanks so much for watching!! I think both the Arles and Meike S35 are amazing value for their respective prices but they offer different things. The Arles are FF, faster, and better built so overall better lenses but the S35 are lighter, cheaper and have more character :).
Very nice aesthetic throughout this film. I really like the back story of Van Gogh having done art in Arles that you went there and showing your wife’s drawings and paintings. The lenses are both kind of sharp sharp and soft at the same time. The backgrounds are always looking so good whatever the distance is, this is seldom a lens performances this well. I guess the amount of glass and weight “explains” that. I think your wife does well on camera, someone’s presence and abilities is what conveys the personality. If I can splurge an idea, a short film about her art and ideas behind it I think would turn out really well 😉 Anyhow, great to see your work!!
Thanks so much for the positive and detailed feedback, I really appreciate it! Whilst I would love to make a doco about my wife she actually doesn't like being in front of the camera, she's helping me out on jobs but I am already pushing it haha!
Congratulations to both of you, amazing cinematography and illustrations. I just got my first BMCC6K and I'm super impressed by the rich color and details. Can you recommend an on camera mic around $200? Thanks.
Perfect title would have been Les Rencontres d'Arles in hommage to the photography festival ;) I saw other video thumbnails with Arles and I instantly knew it was about photography. Nice one DZO.
Stunning imagery, Florent. Each time I see your work it reminds me that these are just tools being used by a master craftsman. It's difficult to truly see these lenses shine as each time I see your work they all just look stunning haha, cheers.
Beautiful work as always. I like the look of these lenses, very nice bokeh. Wish they were cheaper. My only gripe here is that so many of these gorgeous shots are too short, my eye would like a moment to linger.....
Thank you!! I would have loved to let the shots breathe more but I had to stay under 5 mins and it was super hard to pick which shots to keep and get rid of 😅 I shot 800 clips haha!
It’s unbelievable how every frame is an master y its own! Love your work! I have one question, how do you stabilize your footage. When I shoot hand held (pretty similar setup) I still get some kind of motion even in shots where no camera movement is intended. Would love to here from you how you get so smooth shots :)
Thanks a lot!! I stabilise in FCPX, I also make sure to stay quite stable when I film. I’ve made a video before about it so feel free to check it out. A lot is to do with position and breathing. And I always shoot for 10max for static shots. I had to use the RS4 pro for a lot of the walking shots in this video though as the lenses are quite heavy.
great video! I have a question about connecting arles to dji lidar. Did you connect and calibrate without problems? since I already had problems with sigma ff prime when connecting to lidar dji
Absolutely beautiful, stunning film this was. By any chance which lenses did you enjoy more testing and if you had to choose a set of lenses . The retro vespids or the Arles?
Thanks so much!! Hard to pick honestly, I love the image and user experience from both. Maybe Retro for the size and weight, but the Arles for the fast aperture and better handling of the contrast. Can’t go wrong with either though!
Beautiful grading! Just curious, since FilmConvert does not have native support for the Blackmagic 6k Full Frame camera, what camera did you choose to start from within the Film Convert plugin settings?
amazing dynanic range and sharpness - thanks for compiling & sharing this great content - when you say you capture in 6k DCI & outputting to 4k in resolve I suppose. Is downscaling superior over recording in 4k DCI and outputting (unscaled) to 4k or is the 6k recording mainly done for the benefit of GIRO stabilisation ? - would be great if you could explain / in future video.
Thanks for watching!! 6K DCI and I export in 4K ProRes to edit and grade and also archive or upload for footage licensing :). I always prefer to shoot in high resolution and down sampling rather than shooting in 4K. I always prefer to shoot raw for initial adjustments such as iso and wb.
@@OfTwoLands , I shared the video on two sites because it's the best demo I've seen for these new lenses. I was surprised that demo footage wasn't included in the articles, so I added this video to the comments.
The footage is breath taking. I know you use the Meike lenses. Do they even compare to the Arles . A blind comparison with these 2 and maybe The Cooke . . .maybe//
Thanks so much!! It is hard to compare the Arles to the Meikes because the Meikes are S35 and not as fast. I do like both, but they are quite different even in size and feel.
