This is a collection of test footage shot with the Mir-1B 37mm on the BMCC6K. I think it pairs very well with the Helios 44-2! What do you think? Cheers, Flo
@OfTwoLands compared to your heirs video looks like this holds contrast better in pointing at the sun and over more micro contrast and sharper. Is that your observation of straight out of camera files or did you change up the grade?
You sir, have a gift. The way you make every day moments feel cinematic is something we as cinematographers strive for, and you nail it. The characters and flares in the lens, the light, the placement of subject and framing, it makes the viewer feel like they’re in your garden with you! Bravo 👏
Really nice wholesome video. My Mir-1V is one of my favourite lenses to use, its rendering is so unique and you took advantage of that to add to the warmth of this. Really nice video
Watched this whole video absolutely engrossed by it, at the points where I'd usually click away from a random purely test footage lens video, the next shot compelled me to stay! At the end when your name popped up I realised why the video was so good!
I have this lens and i love it more than Helios 44. Its absolutely cinematic, even on closed apertures. Colors are nicer, image is soft and pleasing. But the best part is bokeh. It has beautiful character.
@@OfTwoLands I would recommend you Zenitar 50 1.7 I love this lens so much. But you should get a metal version, not the plastic one. Its so much sharper and cleaner than Helios. But it also have an awesome character. This is probably a balanced mix between Helios and sone more modern lenses.
Helios 44-2 = replica of Zeiss Biotar 58 f/2 Mir-1B = replica of Zeiss Flektogon 35mm f2.5 These are indeed based on different optical formulars, though both delivers beautiful character and results. Check out the Cooke Kinic 25mm f/1.5. Now that’s a wide Helios 44-2, though it doesn’t cover full frame. Beautiful footage! Keep em’ coming.
Thanks for the video footage with this lens. It looks really pretty. Loving the flare around 1:53 ~ 1:56 but not a big fan for the rest of disk/blob like flares that seem quite distracting. Wish i could see this just one day early before my purchase!! But well, it's on the way already. lol.
Wonderful captures. I've been on the fence about this lens for awhile but this might just push me over. And congrats on getting a toddler to sit still for more than 0.2 seconds lol.
amazing video! beautifully shot! anyway i was wondering if you bring any camera specifically for photography in your travel? And if you do bring other camera alongside your BMCC, how do you use both camera? slinging one in your shoulder and having the other cam in your hand? Would love to know on you approach photo and video in your travel!!
Thank you!! I do bring a travel stills camera and that is the Fuji X100V :). I always have both the BMCC6K or BMPCC6K Pro and the Fuji with me. I never liked to do both stills and video on the same camera. I just swap between the two or have one on the PD Capture clip like I did in Iceland.
@@OfTwoLands Sweet! Thanks for the response! Couldn't agree more for having separate cameras for vid and stills :). Similiar to yours, I also bring Lumix S5 for video alongside with my old XE1 for stills. However, I often feel uneasy lugging two cameras around especially in a city well known for pickpockets e.g. Italy, Paris or any western European lol
Lovely stuff. Are you using gyro stabilisation at all here? I know it's a wide lens so not too much of a problem but curious as the shots look nice and natural but don't contain micro jitters. I've just got the BMCC 6K and haven't experimented much with the gyro feature. Thanks
Thank you!! No gyro, just handheld and I stabilised a couple of shots in FCPX. I’m used to film handheld with these cameras and I also used a monitor with cage and handle which helps by adding weight :)
@@OfTwoLands good to know! I've read that you can apparently reduce the minimum focusing distance to something like 0.5m. Did you modify your copy in any way?
Thanks!! I’m used to shooting handheld on these cameras so habit I guess. Then sometimes I also stabilise in post. It’s about breathing and movement too I think. I’ve made a video about shooting handheld a while back so hopefully it might give you more insights :).
I just bought one of these lenses and I cannot achieve focus with the common adaptors I have (both on the pocket 4k and a Canon r5) - no matter how I twist the three dials the image stays out of focus
@@OfTwoLands the old microsoft games like fable or Age of empires had these golden hour type of live action cutscenes, this footage looked of that era.
Are you using NISI VND? I have it, but unfortunately it is not sufficient. To record properly, I have to close the lens aperture very tightly, which causes me to lose depth. I could also record at ISO 100 (I always record at ISO 400 in sunny days because it is the native value), but then I lose dynamic range. Any advice?
@@OfTwoLands It’s multi coated! Thanks for the reply. I have a single coated version from the 70’s and was hoping the multi coated version would still flare similarly.
i bought this lens several years ago, unfortunately my copy is defective and is extremely hazy/blurry when wide open, only cleared when closed down to f4. At that's point I lose so much bokeh and look that I don't think it's worth using anymore.

I agree with you, but Bokeh on the Helios 42-2, 13 blades is Super Duper. I was wondering if you make your own LUTs & put it out on sale?

Fantastic images as always, Flo!

Wow, le plan à 2:06 avec la montagne au fond 🤩

So beautiful! I'm actually testing this lens and the helios at the moment. They're not the easiest to rack focus on!
Thank you mate!! Haha you’re night, they need to be modded to be used regularly and comfortable.
I myself own the Mir-24h 35mm f2 lens, prefer it over the 1B. But they both look absolutely stunning!
I want to try the 35mm as well :)
