I had an interesting intimation sitting around a campfire in the woods last night. The fire perfectly represented Rahu for me, with Ketu being the logs reduced to charcoal, no longer burning, just black shadows of what had once been. I was watching all the bugs fly into the fire out of a near obsessive pull towards the light and then I realized all of us sitting around the fire were also, unconsciously, doing the same thing. The fire was fierce, cruel and elusive.
I dunno. What I felt was beyond what I can rationally describe here. :L

Thank you, this is the best interpretation I have heard of Rahu and Ketu. Most astrologers tend to put them in such a negative light without explaining their true nature or purpose.

You don't give up your desires; you observe them. (Buddhism.) Developing the inner observer of your cravings and aversions gives you control over them, whereas "giving up" your desires (as if that were possible) implies that desires are inherently bad.
This is helping me understand the two so much. Thank you for being so patient and at peace. With mercury in my 1st house in Gemini I find your voice and pace very soothing. With Ketu in my 4th house, no need to say more, I had to move a level up to survive it.
The problem of desire is mentioned very well in the Bhagavad Gita. It is from desire that all problems arise, but without desire the world would cease to function. We need action without regard for the fruits of action, that creates no karma and ultimately sets you free.

Many people have been spoiled by Rahu but not with Kethu...
I have watched a lot of videos on rahu ketu. But one thing you said in the first half is quite unique. Yes, it's true we do seek darkness in our choice of films, our choice of relationships, career etc. Some even seek a dark n isolated n anonymous life. Maybe that could be why remedies dont work, the soul knows what it wants but society rejects it.

Hi Ryan, I like your video tutorials. I am myself a semi astrologer always studying my chart and comparing it to my life lessons and events. I have a strong Jupiter (in pices) and an exalted mercury aspecting each other. So probably that's why I am interested in vedic astrology. Like you said I have a 11th house with debilitated sun. But the sun has neechbangh raja yoga and has a parivartana yoga with venus. Being Venus in the 9th house and in Leo, I always work with multicultural people. Since US being a multicultural place I have worked with Japanese, Brazilians, Spanish, Americans, British, Indians, Chinese etc. Whenever I do some creative projects It stands out as one of the best and people get jealous. Probably because I have kethu in the 5th house and this was something I was very good at it in the past and need not have to work on that in this life and it comes out easily for me. But For some reason I don't see myself being interested in artistic or creative projects in this life. And rahu being in the 11th house people find me very attractive and an easy going person. Although I am fun to be around and I like being out there, I find myself difficult in forming a real friendship or deep connection with anybody. I also have problems with bosses. I had bosses from different countries and I find myself hard to understand or trust them. Because of these Issues I have lost my job many times and am still working to have a stable career. Also my 10th lord Mercury is aspected by mars, Saturn , Jupiter and 8th house lord moon which is causing a lot of ups and downs in my career life. I am very good at what I do but I find myself difficult working with authoritative people which often affects my career life in a bad way. But I always come out of it and find the next best job. My 10th house lord is exhalted in 10th house.

Just this one video has given me more insight on the way forward than all the inspiration and motivation put together. I was wondering, that if for example Rahu and Ketu are the 2/8 axis in the Birth chart, but exactly the reverse in the Navamsa (i.e. Ketu and Rahu are in the 2/8 axis), what does that mean ? Which would you give more importance to in terms of the area of life that we are meant to develop in this lifetime ? My understanding is that the Navamsa should show the true nature of a planet for a particular chart.

I have Rahu in 1st and Ketu in 7th. This makes sense. I need to learn how to be emotionally independent and self-validate my own opinions. Rahu's lord is in great enemy sign and Parivartana yoga. Ketu's lord is in a neutral sign conjunct Saturn within 2 degrees.

How should we interpret Rahu and Ketu in two very high importance charts Navamsa chart D-9 and total sanchita karma chart i.e Shahtysamsa D-60 provided we have correct birth time
What does it mean ..? When they conjunct in the divisional chart? How does that happen and what does it mean? How are you meant to read it .....as one entity? Or as an aspect or conjunction..... does the house or sign add to the significance???

I don't know how to apply what he says when ketu if it is in the 6th. If you think you're going to get satisfaction from your.... chores? Diseases? Enemies? Nobody expects to get any satisfaction from those things.
What happens if Rahu's lord (if you need an example then use sun) is with Ketu? I read this karmically puts emphasis on Ketu and letting go. I just to know more concrete and practical ways to understand this. It's hard to go after what Ketu is saying to let go of.
I have 3 Mahayogas in my chart can you say what that means. I have Rahu oin Gemini and Ketu at Moksha in Sagittarius.
Sounds very common, though. An old text says Ketu bat Mangal Rafu bat Shani.

Putting aside what has been written and by your understanding of rahu and ketu and the signs, what signs could you consider them exalted in or function in the highest capacity? What do you think about ketu in leo?

-Rahu is in 8th house pisces
-Jupiter (lord of pisces) is in 9th house aries
-Mars (Leo ascendant) aspect rahu
-Sun in Leo ascendant
I feel like signs are important though. I know that the nodes stay in a sign for 18 months so it depends on a lot of factors. But my Rahu is in Scorpio rasi and Pisces navamsha. And so it's Scorpio-Jyeshta-Pisces and Ketu is Taurus-Mrigashira-Virgo. And I find that to make sense with who I am. But ya, obviously Scorpio and Taurus isn't enough.
I am half way through my Rahu period in the prime of my life. I have seemly clash heads with others, can not take orders that well from others, and always looking for alternative routines in what ever I am doing. My Rahu is in Taurus 👍. I am misunderstood most of my life.
I want to think & see out side material world,finance,family.

you have to know how the rasi functions (d1) before anything else. Everything else is based on that.

It depends on what astrologer you go do and how they calculate the chart, you are always you, even without the labels.

Great explanation, i'm followin your channel and you can explain things so well. So, the houses of rahu and ketu are more important than the signs that ate into? I mean once rahu is on the 5th house, we need to develop our creative energy on music, painting, media, childreen ..no matter how hard is to give up on 11th stuff like ambition and friendship ? I mean in this case having rahu on the 5th is like having rahu on Leo or not?
They will effect both the sign and the house cusp.
Ryan, I'm looking at a chart where in the Rasi Rahu (in 2nd leo) is in bad dignity (sun in aquarius) but both in the D7 and D9 Rahu is apparently well placed… how to put this together? And also Rahu acts like Saturn but how much exactly? Idem for Ketu's ruler and Mars… how to put, in this case, these 2-lord influences together? Software needed?

levivelivel Software is definitely needed. Also, you need to just be looking at the Natal Chart alone for a while of charts of people you know, so you can match indications to experiences. Then as you get more comfortable with that start contemplating the vargas. Also, you may need someone to teach you how to use the vargas, or read more about them. I spend some time discussing them in The Art and Science of Vedic Astrology Volume 2, and will hopefully do a class webinar on them in 2015, as I can see they are needed, and yes they are hard to understand, because there are so many uses for them.

Interesting, My Rahu is conjunct Mercury. I guess I struggle with ADHD and Asperger's syndrome. Ketu is alone though. Ketu is aspected by Jupiter though. Not sure what that means. Ketu's lord is also aspected by Jupiter.

You say, that if Ketu is in the 7th house and if you learn to love your spouse as an incarnation of the divine, it will result in a transformation. I have Ketu in the 7th house of Libra with Rahu in the Aries sign. We were absolutely incompatible. Gradually I had learnt to accept him over 23 years and yet when that acceptance happened, he passed away all of a sudden. This was the transformation that happened though it was not what I had expected. What am I supposed to understand or learn from this loss? It's nearly 3 years and I am still searching for answers.
As a libra rising I have huge trouble with interpreting rahu which for me is sitting in 4th, conjuct venus, mars and saturn. Ketu of course in the 10th. But the fact that they are in the opposite sign drives me crazy!

Here how can I judge the dignity of both, as they have strange placement, like ketu is 12th house but in 6th sign and vice versa for Rahu. Well Mercury is in 1st

Is this a Vedic or western view? From what I understood the Vedic view was that the nodes tell a lie of duality that we have tricked ourselves into believing and we have to synthesise the two houses to overcome the illusion. Hence the 180 degrees apart split in any chart.
Sounds like you've been listening to some superstitious astrologers. This is vedic.
Just a question, please don't take this negatively. I find that even with vedic astrology, astrologers often come up with different interpretations or are very vague leaving much open to interpretation. Is there such a thing as good astrologer or an astrologer who is more qualified and respected than others? How do we spot a bad astrologer?
This is an excellent question and a complicated one. It depends on your expectations of an astrologer. It depends on the relationship of the astrologer to the client. It depends on the skill of the astrologer. Most astrologers that have a thriving practice that do so due to word of mouth and not due to excessive advertising are probably your best astrologers. Some times, certain clients and astrologers don't get along. It doesn't matter how accurate an astrologer is, if a client can't hear it, it's worthless. Also, sometimes you get horrible astrologers who have kind clients. It doesn't matter how bad they are, if people like them, they are often considered good. Also, somethings can be seen very clearly with astrology and some times fate dictates that certain areas of life are hidden. How good an astrologer is, is often reflected in their level of respect. I've known quite a few famous astrologers that told me utter bullox, and quite a few unknown astrologers who told me very accurate things. Fame and skill sometimes go together, sometimes not. Consider all the famous musicians who are talentless, and all the exceedingly skilled musicians no one has ever heard of. Also, lineages, certifications, all of that is really worthless. Some make a big deal out of this, but once again, just because your parents (lineage) was great, or you spent thousands of dollars for a diploma doesn't mean you actually know anything. My advice, is to find an astrologer that is sincere, realizes he/she doesn't know EVERYTHING, is interested in helping you make sense of your life, and doesn't make a big deal about titles, lineages or anything else that tries to impress you. Then ask them a few questions. If they can answer appropriately, consider working with them. If they make no sense, then bless them and move on. Also, consider having a realistic view of an astrologer. They can be an expert just like anyone else. We have this overblown vision that an astrologer should know all things and never make mistakes. We are human. Just like financial advisors, doctors, and people in other professions don't always succeed, neither do astrologers, no matter how much hype there is around them. Doctors often misdiagnose, lawyers often lose cases, financial advisors sometimes make bad investments. The good one's learn from their mistakes and do have better odds for success, but they are not perfect. Neither are astrologers. For one, we do not perfectly understand astrology at present, and second, the world is responsive to our consciousness and intentions. At best an astrologer will see a possible trend based on the current influences. Some trends are stronger than others. So ideally, it is my sense that if you find a sincere astrologer, consider building an honest relationship with that person. Trust their counsel, but live your life. If they are not correct on certain things, but are correct when it matters, then consider letting them know, so they can learn from it. I have many many repeat clients over the years. Most of the time I succeed in sharing useful information. Sometimes, they call me back and say, it didn't go that way, and I take notes and learn from it. The reason they are repeat clients is because we have a working relationship, and although I'm not perfect, the guidance is enough to help them make informed decisions. I would one day, like to see all of this mystique about astrologers and astrology go away, so we can actually treat astrology for what it is, a very helpful system, but not one to take the place of our own free will and faith in God.

Its pointless to persue rahu. Its pretty much in the first few pages of the Mahabharata.
Rahu will enslave you to get all the "stuff" of the house its in even though YOU actually dont want it. Sort of like the devil - hense the dragon analogy.
