Hello Susan, I would love to move near my son and his family, I have no family where I currently live and nothing to hold me back but my son has never suggested me live near him and my only grandson. I miss my dad who kept me on my toes, I was his caregiver and he passed 4 years ago. I feel so alone, I think I need to look for a little companion like sweet Dezi.🐶
@@LittlePoet Thank you Susan for your suggestion. I brought it up recently to my son when they were looking for a nanny for my grandson. I shared how many memories he has of his grandparents that have passed and I would love my grandson to have memories of me but my son and daughter-in-law hired a nanny. I’m writing a little memoir for my grandson so when I’m gone he will know about his Grammy and the love I have for him ❤
I believe the desire to stay at home is something that happens after a certain age. It came to me when I realized I had no family left. There isn't anyone outside the door waiting for me anymore. Inside is safe, away from the dissappointments. I know home is my nest and my little dog is my world.
It sounds like you live in a nice, cozy sanctuary … your home, your refuge. I do get out and socialize at 71, but I always enjoy coming home … it’s my refuge.
I get the reclusive bit…comes with age but life has been hard, and I’m a bit tired. Yes I can brush up well and have a ball, but the state of the world affects me…but I walk, and I sing as I walk. I’m 72…these are the days of communication and slowing down. I, too , have granddaughters, who I’m crazy about…..PS I truely believe that you are in the best place, now ,and you have inspired me to face the change that is coming for me….Thankyou ❤
I know that feeling. It’s very hard to get out of the house and I live out in the country which doesn’t make it any easier but when I do go into town, I make a list and try to go to more than one place but I’ve gotten to the point where the traffic is horrible And I don’t want to be in it. But still you have to do it. I don’t have to like it.

I left an abusive spouse , a beautiful house and moved half way across the country to be closer to family. I’ve made a new life and I’m so much more content. I do miss my friends from my old home but my new ones are awesome. I’m renting a flat in a house and the property owners are wonderful. SUSAN IS RIGHT. Never too late for a do-over.
My aunt Kathryn was a spitfire. At 84 she dressed in matching skirt and blazer with a silk blouse, applied makeup and curled her hair every single day. My mother said, why do you bother? My aunt said because you never know when Mr. Right will ring the doorbell!
I am 67 and love being home alone. Nothing to do with self esteem. I just like being home working on projects. enjoying my dogs. At this age I am so happy being with me 😂😂😂 that I don't need people like I did when I was younger. Self confidence you gain as you age is priceless!!
House stays neat , eat whatever and whenever without cooking, nap whenever, have and use the whole queen-size or larger bed to yourself, yep, being single is great.......
Yessss… same here. I am 67 and love being home alone too. Many projects here to keep me busy or sometimes just doing nothing at all. Rarely do I feel lonely.

Susan, you are such an inspiration! I was without a car for 9 years. It took me until a month ago to save enough to get another one. I saved every penny I could. It has given me such a sense of accomplishment. I now can get out again visiting my favorite consignment shop, Goodwill and festivals. I was scared I would make a poor choice. But, I did my homework and I got a great car at a great price! Hugs to you and Desi!!

I'm getting a new hairdo, I bought some new make-up, (including Crazy about Coffee lipstick), and I'm making myself get out of the house at least a couple of times a week! I seem to wear lipstick anymore unless I'm going out which is seldom money wise we've had enormous bills and I'm 71 so need to cut back thankfully I love simple things and don't need to be entertained, the last 2 yrs have been rough I'm unable to see my 96 yr old mom and my daughter because I'm waiting on spine surgery which I'm not looking forward too so my favorite hoilday is Christmas will definitely low key I'll get a few things out around Thanksgiving and will do fine I'm so grateful for your channel Susan and Desi ❤
I work at it most days! But when I get out and among people & visit my local Coffee Lounge, I return home rejuvenated and happy. Back to walking in town at the end of the day is the 'icing on the cake'. I see all the dog walkers and say hello, I listen to nature rather than music in my ears and I'm grateful. At 68 years old, we all know the blessings we have that others maybe not so much. Embracing each and every day has helped so much.

I am so very happy for you Susan because you made the right choice and followed your heart. You are a talented creative artist in every medium. I marvel at what you have done with your home, your music, your love and joy with Desi, your poetry and love for your family and grandchildren! I never knew your life was lonely before. I am going through loneliness now and it is starting to get to me. I am turning 65 soon and the only family member I have is my daughter in a very small town in Minnesota. I have asthma and do well in Florida with some friends here but they are all in relationships or marriages and have little time for me, except texts and occasional lunches. I am going to visit my daughter in June and rent a place with the hopes of staying all summer. She is not always grounded and gets irritable when stressed which stresses me but we talk on the phone a lot and I feel so close to her then. Hopefully, it will work out and I will find a way to stay in the summers. All of my siblings and my son passed early so at this age I am really feeling that loneliness creeping up. I am pushing myself to get out of the house but it is so hard. I love what you said about getting dressed up and getting out. I am going to do that very thing tomorrow. Then go to water aerobics the next day and join a book club and take an art class. Once I get that going I plan to teach a class myself. It has taken me so long to move forward after losing family members a few years back but feel I just have to no matter what or I am just getting worse and worse with my personal well being. Thank you and these lovely ladies for your inspiration and support. I think that is a big part of my problem is that I have not had support through life crises over the last few years and am so grateful to have you here doing this, I realize I am not alone and we all go through so much at this time of life. You're not alone, Aya. I am 5 years older than you, live alone too---under similar circumstances. I have a small part-time job (about 20 hours a week) so I get some socialization through work, and didn't really feel lonely until my precious senior girl Bella died a few months ago. I'm still feeling the pain of losing my best friend and only companion. I even have asthma, just like you. I live in Texas--but if I lived in Florida--maybe we could be friends, and go to water aerobics together. And a book club? I would be all in--as I'm an avid reader. You inspire me to maybe venture out and try some of those things. In the meantime, I will be cheering you on 😺
Yes do those classes snd go to those groups. You are bound to find some people there with interests in common to you and who are open to extending their circle of friends. All the best to you 🌷
Thanks for your honesty I enjoy your style and you answered some of my questions I live by myself and actually enjoy it but I do miss my children they made me strong when when my marriage fell apart I spend time with my children and grandchildren and enjoy doing things that make me happy music,reading , walking and friends and antiques and life in general , take care and god bless you and Desi . ❤😊

I have a 3 year old standard poodle named Lola and don’t know what I would do without her. One of the things that helped me with loss was lots of self care. Susan, I applaud your decision to move near your son and grandchildren. I am 74 years old and I was a hands on grandma to all three of my grandchildren. As they grew up and finished college, they accepted big jobs in different parts of the country. I miss them so much but I am so proud of their accomplishments. My first great grandchild was born last month and she lives nearly 2,000 miles away. Guess what, in January, I am packing my ish and flying out to spend a week loving on her. At our ages, every day counts and as long as we are healthy and motivated, we need to make the most of it. Girlfriend, you make me proud.
So pleased for you to have bought your house. It’s a big thing, I know. I was in my 50’s before I felt I could afford to own my home. And it never gets old. Renting is absolutely fine, and I may have to rent again. But for now, when I turn the key to my condo, I love the feeling of knowing it’s mine. How fortunate and privileged am I! Susan, your answer to why you don't film your grandchildren reminded me of a time I was asked why I didn't pierce my daughter's ears when she was a baby. I respected her right to choose that for herself when she was old enough. Her body was not mine to alter. Some people thought I was crazy. I enjoy your channel so very much.

Hi Susan. So nice to see you this week. I think you are an inspiration to senior women who are alone. You are the complete woman. I got married real young, 19 and the marriage lasted 4 yrs. No children then. My ex was abusive in every manner . On our 4th anniversary I decided I was too young to be miserable. He was a cheater. I also worked for meager salary as a dental assistant. Between husband's I bartended part time for extra money. One thing, not having enough money for food sure kept me thin. I learned alot about men there in that tavern. Ironically, it was a mistress of my ex s friend who offered me the job. Many of life s experiences were more apparent . I ended up meeting my second husband at the dental office. Sticking around that job paid off. As he put me through nurses school, I became more enriched by serving others by caring for them. At 74 , soon to be, I have become more philosophical, more spiritual and more in tune with others by not being judgemental. Our souls are here to experience the human aspects of life. The good, bad and indifferent help us choose the human we want to be.

Your video today really hit home with me. After living in Texas for 58 years, at 84 years of age I moved here to Virginia last August. I decided that if I did not do it then I would never do it. I also moved so that I could have my son and daughter and their spouses close to me. It is the best thing I have ever done in my life.🥰 I love it here and I am so happy. I totally understand why you did what you did.😁❤️
May I ask what part of Virginia you moved to? I lived there for 11 years---in the mountains about 40 mins. west of Roanoke. I'm single now, but when married, we moved to Texas decades ago for my husband's job. I like Texas...but really miss those beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains.

Oh Susan, when you said, there was nobody that needed your hugs in your old town, it really brought a tear to my eyes. I don't have children or a partner, so I don't know what it feels like to have someone that needs my hugs. It's a beautiful thought. You’re so brave Susan❤ I wasn’t looking for love. In fact, at 59 I was happy without a man in my life; however, love found me and I married a wonderful man at age 61…2 years ago. We waited until our wedding night to consummate our love. We are healthy, we travel the world in a van with our 9 month old Mini Schnauzer. We have everything we need: comfy queen bed, fridge and freezer, shower and bathroom and in fact, I’m typing this next to a secluded lake in the woods of Lake Tahoe area in our warm van while it’s 39F outside. In 2 days, we go back to our beautiful home in Phoenix Arizona where our family is and we can’t wait. We haven’t seen them in 2 weeks. I share all this because I want all of you to know that it’s never too late for love and companionship; however that looks for you…a new friend, an old friend, your children and grandchildren and yes…even marriage.

Purpose as an older person…story to tell. Getting my car serviced, young and older technicians work there. A younger technician was “green” in my opinion. I sought out the person who looked the oldest and started a conversation. He had been in the car industry since 1965. I told him the younger generation needed his expertise and guidance. I told him I felt comfortable and taken care of by his demeanor and knowledge. I know I made his day but he made my day. Moral of the story. We have something to offer people. Mine was encouragement and validation. His was sharing his expertise. Susan you are right. Getting out of our own heads to look for ways to bless people. It really is a great tonic for the demise of “I am getting older, what value does my life have?”
I just love your voice and your poetic ways of describing your feelings. I am so happy you feel you made the right decision. For some people it may be the opposite. They may need to get away from caring for others and create a distance in order for them to care for themselves. What ever it is we need to do to feel happier and peaceful, it's what is the right thing to do. ❤
I think buying a home & moving close to your son was the best decision you ever made. The older I get the more my faith matters to me. I watch mass every Sunday on tv. I said 5 decades of the rosary for Lent. I decided to keep it up. Your Fall decor looks wonderful. Much love, Lucy

My newest adventure - got a ride in the ambulance this week - dislocated my hip in the shower - had to wait 4 hrs for hubby to get home - thought I was gonna die - lived to tell about it! Moral of the story - make sure your phone is within reach in case of an emergency!! It truly was the scariest thing that’s ever happened to me! And the most painful!! I am attuned to living alone, no family to check in on me daily, so I make it a point to put the phone on the floor next to the toilet when I shower. This way if I fall it will be within easy reach.
Susan I moved from Alabama to Las Vegas NV atb53 and started over ...to start over from divorce and to be closer to my drandkids....everyone told me I was crazy... Well its been 27 years and I'm still here and had a great life...do what you want to do ..its your life.

I have done everything scared my whole life, Went back to college at 37, single mom, loved even when it hurt, moved on from a long relationship after years and thought I would probably die. Now, I 'm still scared but I have realized in order to go on and accomplish anything I will just have to be a little scared. We grew up in the 60's and 70's and yeah I think most people back then had sex with a person they were not in love with. We were full of life and love ! No regrets, my only regret would be to give up on life, I'm not ready for that ! Much love to you and Desi!!!

Hi Susan, another relatable and honest video. You never disappoint. My must to do list to motivate me in the mornings is to always thank my creator for waking me up to see another day, make my bed, shower, get dressed and then spray on my favorite body spray or perfume. Being 68 yrs old, divorced, and living alone, every day i make the effort to enjoy every moment which includes time with my grands. I just broke off my non committed relationship of 22 years because I felt like I was not living I was just existing and waiting for my weekend boyfriend we spent 22 years committed to each other but not living together ! Susan, I look forward to hearing from you on Saturday. I've begun a new chapter in My life. It has heartbreaking, but I had to let My husband of 30 years go. He left yesterday. He said to Me the day before he left that I chose God instead of Him. Well, I became a Christian and he is not a believer. I learned that the way he treated Me was not what I deserved or what God would want Me to be treated with the disrespect. He has been addicted to porn for Our entire marriage. It's hurt Me terribly. He hurt Me physically and emotionally and now that I'm a Child of God, I couldn't allow him to treat Me the way he did. It was very abusive. He never listened to Me when I told him he was hurting Me when We were what I thought "making love ". His idea of making love was what he watched on porn. That isn't Love. So, I'm going to be OK. I'm going to make My home My Home and decorate the way I want it and enjoy being free and learning who I am again. I'm in CA and he is going to live with his daughter in Indiana. Far away from Me! I will always love him as We have a lot of memories together. But, I will not remarry Anyone. I'm with you, you never know who may come into your life and you could fall in love. But, I learned a lot from this marriage and I don't know if I will ever be able to give My heart to another man. I feel that I need time to heal and get to know Myself again. Not the person who was an object or a Trophy to show off. I know I am worthy of so much more for My time I have left. Why would I want a relationship when I don't know how much longer I have to live, due to the Cancer growing inside Me. I don't want to die Alone, but I don't want to put Anyone through that loss. I also moved from California to a whole new country, Finland. Learning a foreign language at 39 is not easy, but I am up for this challenge. I love it here and my son loves it here too. I am making new friends slowly. I am lucky to have my husband of 14 years, he’s a Finn.
Brave, brave girl answering the questions with such honesty. Only feel more respect for you. Truly resonated when you said about getting out of the house….I have a marvellous husband but not really much other family and the anxiety becomes so bad at times that I don’t even want to get out of the bed, let alone out of the house. So I push myself to have good and positive thoughts and try to go out even if it’s just for coffee at a cafe. My husband is always upbeat and very rarely feels down or anxious, but does understand how I can be, so that helps a lot. My eldest granddaughter will be 17 in a few months and we are super close. When you make an effort to bond with your grandchildren the bonds are amazing. I totally understand why you moved. Your very wise.
There are many ways to be close with your family, grandchildren and friends without moving close by if you can’t. Be creative and use your imagination. In my case I rely on snail mail and those unexpected cards and packages just because you were thinking of someone else. Making someone else’s day in an unplanned moment makes YOURS. There are times we all feel loneliness. Finding what you love to do on your own will make you a magnet for opening new opportunities to be close to anyone. Yes, it is scary but concentrating on YOU first makes all the difference in how we react to the life around us and how connected we feel.🍀🙏
I failed to mention that my granddaughter lives two provinces away from me but we still maintain a solid bond. For sure if you can live close all the better but time is more important than distance. Take the time to bond in what ever way you can. It is the best investment.

At 30 years old, I moved from overseas with my 2 young children with only $900 to my name. I moved to a town where I had lived in my late teens. I had no fear, I went to college but had to work more in order to make ends meet. Now I’m in my early 60’s and my biggest fear is will I have enough money to live on when I retire. You inspire me every week with your encouraging words and I thank you. I ❤ Desi, he’s perfect!
When I was younger I knew no fear…did not even think about change, just did it. As a 68 year old fears are stronger about making major changes. I am working on it. You help me so much. Give Desi a kiss and hug for me. ❤
I am 71, retired for 8 years, used to travel a lot for work. Now, I have fears about traveling alone! I joined a travel group online, hoping it would encourage me but I’m still afraid … I am hoping to start small by traveling nearby for a night stay to see how I feel. I’m happy I’m not alone in my fears as I’ve become older … I used to be so brave!

My personal tidbit: I am a Southerner and not just any old Southerner. I am from Deep South Mississippi. With pride, I might add. And I am tired of tv talk show hosts, news journalists, commentators and other “celebrities” and “important people” making their judgmental, asinine remarks about my home. They don’t know us. We are a generous, loving, people of many races and religions. We gave the world Elvis, Faulkner, Welty, Oprah and the Teddy Bear and so many other wonderful things! I just want to tell the jerks to “go bite it”! Glad I got that off my chest! Now, who wants a slice of watermelon and a Mississippi Mud cake? ❤️

You are very brave to share and move closer to family. Well, the Doctor Y. diagnosed cancer in my right breast and the radiation treatment starts on Wednesday. I got rid of ~100 sewing patterns / hauled at least 65 books to Goodwill. I'm drawing again. Thankfully, I can find all the art supplies.There is no guilt for watching A./E. Hoarder's anymore.
I have been on the breast cancer journey. I had my final surgery to put me back together. It has been quite the journey, but I'm better for it. I was scared at first. I made it my mission to keep going with a positive attitude. I wish you much strength in your journey. ❤

Something about me. I have always had a hard time connecting to my peers. That my parents were older, my "bed-ridden" (sounds like its a buggy) granny lived w us and we moved around contributed to this. I am a movie 🎬 & book junkie. When other kids were listening to the Beatles, Hendrix and Joplin, I was listening to Hawaiian and Classical. When the Beach Boys were big I wanted the Andrew Sisters. When I hit 13 I fell for all things Victorian. I have always felt either out of step or behind step. And curiosity? And interests? I get excited over what I read, learn or encounter. Then when I am around my "peers"- except for one or two, I don't have peeps doing or studying something they are similarly excited about. Or rarely. That's where YT comes in. I get to virtually travel and experience so many other windows to other's lives & skills. But no rosin for the viola! I am very blessed to get so much enjoyment out of so many things. Even clean socks. Or finding an ink pen that writes. I may not have as much as some but I treasure what I have. Including yr channel. 😂
❤❤ I love Sunday mornings here in Perth waking up to your videos. Well I'm 71 and live 9 houses from my son and his wife and their three children. Aged from 7 to 8mths. My daughter and her husband live about a 1/4 KL from us. They have three children as well. Aged from 9 to 3. I'm the most luckiest woman on earth. My husband is 78 and bless with good health. My daughter had breast cancer two years ago and her husband had a kidney transplant at the same time. Very lucky we all live so close and can help. Love every minute. Hi Susan and Desi! In January of 2023, I got a kidney infection (no fun). It took several months to recover. I became somewhat depressed. It is a lot of work to be sick all the time. I decided to do the 75 Hard Program by Andy Fresilla. It is a mental toughness challenge lasting 75 days. I was doing so well on the program and then on day 43 I got Shingles (lots of pain). I was going to quit but I did not. I finished the 75 days. I lost 40 pounds. I feel so much better. Sometimes we have to push ourselves through pain, depression, and loneliness to see what we are truly made of. I admire your tenacity to keep pushing forward even if it is frightening, Thank you, Susan.........
I can so relate to you. What you have been through. I am going through that now. I had my teeth taken out. Then got shingles 4 months after. In my head and face. I am still struggling every day for 2 years now. The depression, pain and try to move forward. I wish you all the best. Think I will check out that challenge. 😅
@@lizpanagiotis6738- Don’t give up…. Fight for yourself. I have a friend who developed an autoimmune disease. Than she got hooked on painkillers. Than she lost her teeth. Trying to wear dentures was just too overwhelming for her so she goes without them which has effected her health because she can’t eat properly. Now she has developed rheumatoid arthritis. She pretty much stays at home with exception of trips to the drugstore. I feel bad for her but she has just given in to all her ailments. By wearing dentures, changing to a healthy diet, getting some form of exercise for her RA, etc would have helped her so much to have a better quality of life. So don’t give up on yourself… be the best you can be even if you take baby steps! ❤

I can't believe people ask you some of this stuff....and you were brave to answer. I absolutely was NOT one of the people who said you shouldn't move!! I picked up and moved to Mexico in 2021...sold my house in Oregon and got rid of a whole lot of stuff, mostly stuff I didn't need. It was so great to start fresh again and I knew if I didn't do it now, I would probably not ever move. Where I'm living just fits me so well! I miss some of my old friends and I'm so far away I probably won't ever go back. But there are lots of new friends, there is Facebook to stay connected, and I really have never been happier. I am so glad you just went with your heart. Being a part of your grandkids' lives is very important to you and your little house is so wonderful for you and Desi! AND, I totally get it about the music. I have a hard time making music any more. Too much pain and loss, I think....the music in me died. But soon I will be sitting down at the piano to try again and see what comes out of me. It will be very different this time around....different thoughts, different life. I'm done with all the longing and pain of earlier years and somehow life is just so tranquil and peaceful now. I'm still very creative...have my little RUclips channel and very busy working on creating my tropical oasis in my back yard. It is just a different outlet for creativity and there is a limit to time and energy. Love every one of your episodes. Thank you for sharing your life with us!!
Oh Susan, I just love your willingness to answer questions....your honesty is a shot in the arm of encouragement to all of us facing these issues. I too wear makeup everyday because like you, I feel like it's a fresh start and because I want to present my best self to the world, and it just makes me happy. Helen Keller once said that life is an amazing adventure, or it's nothing. So as long as we have breath we need to embrace that philosophy, spend time with our families and friends, and make the most of each day....thank you for sharing....it means more than you know...

Life's challenging but we think we're lucky as we own our own home and are still working in our early sixties. I wish you and Desi all the best.

I made a decision to move all the way across the country at age 59 to a place I picked on a map. I didn't have a job there or anything. Everyone thought I had lost my mind. But I never regretted it.
I can't tell you how much I admire you. Your humanity, kindness, smarts and down to earth personality makes you so relatable. I always look forward to your weekly vlogs. Your decision to move closer to your grandkids was the right one in order for them to really know you. I have two grandsons (9 & 13) and live 15 minutes from them. The bond I have with them since there were babies is so strong. They know my husband and I so well. It's a joy just to be around them. Yes, it's true, that once the older one got to be 12 he became "too cool" to hug grandma like he used to but that's ok. I know it's part of just be a teenager. At the end of the day, he will always know the love I have for him.
Hello Susan, IVE been here still every week. I don’t say much anymore, it’s just me. But I want you to know my life seems to parallel yours the past 6 months. I had to take a leap of faith and make a change. I sold my home of 35 years with my darling husband and moved from Florida to Ohio. Afraid, yes you bet. But I also was brave and your right I can always go back. Bought a small home near my husbands family, started from scratch, but I’m very happy very content. It’s just what my husband would want for me and now I know I am able at 71 to make big changes still. I’m so loving the change of seasons, which I’ve never experienced, the beauty is beyond. Just wanted you to know I’m still here and still loving the wisdom and encouragement you give. We are fine, this I know. 🦋🦋🦋

I love your channel. It gives me hope, something I need right now. I just turned 66. After, putting my daughter through 12 years of college and I finished raising my husband, I decided it was my turn to realize my dream. I have been Registered Nurse for many years and I always wanted to be a Nurse Practitioner. I returned to school, I completed the 3 year program with a 4.0 and I felt so hopeful. Unfortunately, like many, I am struggling to pass the board exam. After taking it twice and each time coming so close, it’s devastating me. I know many struggle with this but I feel so much shame and fear that I made a big mistake by thinking I could do this- maybe it wasn’t meant to be. Anyway, I’ve been so sad, I haven’t dropped by your channel in a bit- I needed one of your pep talks. I’m fine, and this too shall pass, thank you for always being so real.
Susan, your open and honest answers are so interesting. At 71 years young, I too do my hair, skincare and some makeup most days. I realize that for me, it is so that I can present the best version of me each day. Doing those self care things are for me so I see them as healthy. I do try to get out most days as I would choose to be around people over any type of isolation. My cleaning day is Friday, so if nothing else is planned, I do announce to myself…..Yay….a no make up day. I consider that a gift and a choice. I am blessed to still be married to my love and best friend, going on 52 years, and to live minutes from our son and one grandson. Lately I have been seriously considering that it is time to find some meaningful volunteer work so that is next for me. I have no family. I took care of my mother until she passed. My ex husband began having affairs after retirement. It is sometimes very scary as I age completely Alone.

Oh, Little Poet, you are so right about change! I don't think anyone likes it and it is hard. I got sober many years ago and so much of that is my passion. Helping other alcoholics, giving back what was so freely given to me. They say you can't keep what you don't give away. I believed I would never have fun again but was reminded what I was doing that last year was not fun. I was a slave to the bottle. I would ask just how much I had to change and people would tell me pretty much everything. That terrified me. But I wanted sobriety so much that I did whatever it took. It was the hardest work I've ever done! That helps to keep me sober. I know I have another drink in me but not another recovery. I'm too old and it was too hard! I'm a much happier self today. I've learned acceptance, courage, wisdom, willingness and so many other wonderful things. Why would I risk losing those things?! Another great video! You look even more happy than I've ever seen you! I remember back to the very beginning. You look like the Wizard of Oz when it changes from black & white to color. You've looked in color for many years now but the colors are more vivid these last 6 months! Much love to you & Desi!!!

Never told you before that I always wanted to be a singer..I once did a solo in a show in high school but that was it! Ok here's something from me. When I turned 60 I put all my stuff into storage then I got in my pickup with a few things and moved to California. I was out there many wonderful years until it got too expensive. I relocated and I'm living a new and amazing adventure at almost 70. I kept myself locked in my apartment for 2 years. When I went grocery shopping, I felt invisible. In May over frustration with a landlord who wouldn't fix anything, I signed up for senior housing and stayed in my car with my 16 year old shih tzu. I slept in a game land parking lot at night and lived in a state park during the day. Gradually I became braver, met people curious about my lifestyle, lost weight, and found real happiness. When they called to tell me an apartment was available, I couldn't entertain the thought of ending this. It has been 5 1/2 months, a chill is in the air, and with peace in my heart, I feel ready for a new adventure. My son is flying up from Texas and we will drive down to his place, with love in my heart for this magical place and the special people I met along the way. I don't feel invisable anymore, 64 and loving it!
Hello Susan, I would love to move near my son and his family, I have no family where I currently live and nothing to hold me back but my son has never suggested me live near him and my only grandson. I miss my dad who kept me on my toes, I was his caregiver and he passed 4 years ago. I feel so alone, I think I need to look for a little companion like sweet Dezi.🐶

I shared how many memories he has of his grandparents that have passed and I would love my grandson to have memories of me but my son and daughter-in-law hired a nanny. I’m writing a little memoir for my grandson so when I’m gone he will know about his Grammy and the love I have for him ❤
I believe the desire to stay at home is something that happens after a certain age. It came to me when I realized I had no family left. There isn't anyone outside the door waiting for me anymore. Inside is safe, away from the dissappointments. I know home is my nest and my little dog is my world.
It sounds like you live in a nice, cozy sanctuary … your home, your refuge. I do get out and socialize at 71, but I always enjoy coming home … it’s my refuge.
I get the reclusive bit…comes with age but life has been hard, and I’m a bit tired. Yes I can brush up well and have a ball, but the state of the world affects me…but I walk, and I sing as I walk. I’m 72…these are the days of communication and slowing down. It’s very hard to get out of the house and I live out in the country which doesn’t make it any easier but when I do go into town, I make a list and try to go to more than one place but I’ve gotten to the point where the traffic is horrible And I don’t want to be in it. But still you have to do it. I don’t have to like it.
My mother married at 82. Her new husband was 97!! Never say never!! They were married 3 years.

I left an abusive spouse , a beautiful house and moved half way across the country to be closer to family. I’ve made a new life and I’m so much more content. I do miss my friends from my old home but my new ones are awesome. I’m renting a flat in a house and the property owners are wonderful. SUSAN IS RIGHT. Never too late for a do-over.
My aunt Kathryn was a spitfire. At 84 she dressed in matching skirt and blazer with a silk blouse, applied makeup and curled her hair every single day. My mother said, why do you bother? My aunt said because you never know when Mr. Right will ring the doorbell!
I am 67 and love being home alone. Nothing to do with self esteem. I just like being home working on projects. enjoying my dogs. At this age I am so happy being with me 😂😂😂 that I don't need people like I did when I was younger. Self confidence you gain as you age is priceless!!
House stays neat , eat whatever and whenever without cooking, nap whenever, have and use the whole queen-size or larger bed to yourself, yep, being single is great.......

Susan, you are such an inspiration! I was without a car for 9 years. It took me until a month ago to save enough to get another one. I saved every penny I could. It has given me such a sense of accomplishment. I now can get out again visiting my favorite consignment shop, Goodwill and festivals. I was scared I would make a poor choice. I seem to wear lipstick anymore unless I'm going out which is seldom money wise we've had enormous bills and I'm 71 so need to cut back thankfully I love simple things and don't need to be entertained, the last 2 yrs have been rough I'm unable to see my 96 yr old mom and my daughter because I'm waiting on spine surgery which I'm not looking forward too so my favorite hoilday is Christmas will definitely low key I'll get a few things out around Thanksgiving and will do fine I'm so grateful for your channel Susan and Desi ❤
I work at it most days! But when I get out and among people & visit my local Coffee Lounge, I return home rejuvenated and happy. Back to walking in town at the end of the day is the 'icing on the cake'. I see all the dog walkers and say hello, I listen to nature rather than music in my ears and I'm grateful. At 68 years old, we all know the blessings we have that others maybe not so much. Embracing each and every day has helped so much.

I never knew your life was lonely before. I am going through loneliness now and it is starting to get to me. I am turning 65 soon and the only family member I have is my daughter in a very small town in Minnesota. I have asthma and do well in Florida with some friends here but they are all in relationships or marriages and have little time for me, except texts and occasional lunches. I am going to visit my daughter in June and rent a place with the hopes of staying all summer. She is not always grounded and gets irritable when stressed which stresses me but we talk on the phone a lot and I feel so close to her then. Hopefully, it will work out and I will find a way to stay in the summers. All of my siblings and my son passed early so at this age I am really feeling that loneliness creeping up. I am pushing myself to get out of the house but it is so hard. I love what you said about getting dressed up and getting out. I am going to do that very thing tomorrow. Then go to water aerobics the next day and join a book club and take an art class. Once I get that going I plan to teach a class myself. It has taken me so long to move forward after losing family members a few years back but feel I just have to no matter what or I am just getting worse and worse with my personal well being. Thank you and these lovely ladies for your inspiration and support. I think that is a big part of my problem is that I have not had support through life crises over the last few years and am so grateful to have you here doing this, I realize I am not alone and we all go through so much at this time of life. work, and didn't really feel lonely until my precious senior girl Bella died a few months ago. I'm still feeling the pain of losing my best friend and only companion. I even have asthma, just like you. I live in Texas--but if I lived in Florida--maybe we could be friends, and go to water aerobics together. And a book club? I would be all in--as I'm an avid reader. You inspire me to maybe venture out and try some of those things. In the meantime, I will be cheering you on 😺
Yes do those classes snd go to those groups. You are bound to find some people there with interests in common to you and who are open to extending their circle of friends. All the best to you 🌷

Susan, I applaud your decision to move near your son and grandchildren. I am 74 years old and I was a hands on grandma to all three of my grandchildren. As they grew up and finished college, they accepted big jobs in different parts of the country. I miss them so much but I am so proud of their accomplishments. My first great grandchild was born last month and she lives nearly 2,000 miles away. Guess what, in January, I am packing my ish and flying out to spend a week loving on her. At our ages, every day counts and as long as we are healthy and motivated, we need to make the most of it. Girlfriend, you make me proud.
So pleased for you to have bought your house. It’s a big thing, I know. I was in my 50’s before I felt I could afford to own my home. And it never gets old. Renting is absolutely fine, and I may have to rent again. But for now, when I turn the key to my condo, I love the feeling of knowing it’s mine. How fortunate and privileged am I! I respected her right to choose that for herself when she was old enough. Her body was not mine to alter. Some people thought I was crazy. I enjoy your channel so very much.

Hi Susan. So nice to see you this week. I think you are an inspiration to senior women who are alone. You are the complete woman.
I got married real young, 19 and the marriage lasted 4 yrs. No children then. My ex was abusive in every manner . On our 4th anniversary I decided I was too young to be miserable. He was a cheater. I also worked for meager salary as a dental assistant. Between husband's I bartended part time for extra money. One thing, not having enough money for food sure kept me thin.
I learned alot about men there in that tavern. Ironically, it was a mistress of my ex s friend who offered me the job. Many of life s experiences were more apparent .
I ended up meeting my second husband at the dental office. Sticking around that job paid off.
As he put me through nurses school, I became more enriched by serving others by caring for them. At 74 , soon to be, I have become more philosophical, more spiritual and more in tune with others by not being judgemental. Our souls are here to experience the human aspects of life. The good, bad and indifferent help us choose the human we want to be.
Well said! 77 here and love each twist and turn of my life that made me who I am today. Love life as a journey not a destination.

I love it when little Desi sings with you at the the end of your videos. Susan you have a beautiful soul and sharing your journey is so encouraging to the many women who need the love and advice you share in your videos. Thank you so much for your caring spirit and for your genuine love to help others on their journey. You are truly a best friend in a distant land. There is a book I would like for you to buy. It is called Jesus Calling, by Sarah Young. It is a daily devotional that reads with the sweetest words and comfort that we all need. I know you would love it. Your video today really hit home with me. After living in Texas for 58 years, at 84 years of age I moved here to Virginia last August. I decided that if I did not do it then I would never do it.
I also moved so that I could have my son and daughter and their spouses close to me. It is the best thing I have ever done in my life.🥰

May I ask what part of Virginia you moved to? I lived there for 11 years---in the mountains about 40 mins. west of Roanoke. I'm single now, but when married, we moved to Texas decades ago for my husband's job. I like Texas...but really miss those beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains.

Under the Tuscan Sun is probably my most favourite movie, ever. If any of you haven't watched it, I highly recommend it. Oh Susan, when you said, there was nobody that needed your hugs in your old town, it really brought a tear to my eyes. I don't have children or a partner, so I don't know what it feels like to have someone that needs my hugs. It's a beautiful thought. Thank you for another heartfelt video, your videos are the highlight of my week. And I'm getting out that door soon on a vacation, being brave, venturing out of my small world after many years.

I wasn’t looking for love. In fact, at 59 I was happy without a man in my life; however, love found me and I married a wonderful man at age 61…2 years ago. We waited until our wedding night to consummate our love. We are healthy, we travel the world in a van with our 9 month old Mini Schnauzer. We have everything we need: comfy queen bed, fridge and freezer, shower and bathroom and in fact, I’m typing this next to a secluded lake in the woods of Lake Tahoe area in our warm van while it’s 39F outside. In 2 days, we go back to our beautiful home in Phoenix Arizona where our family is and we can’t wait. We haven’t seen them in 2 weeks. I share all this because I want all of you to know that it’s never too late for love and companionship; however that looks for you…a new friend, an old friend, your children and grandchildren and yes…even marriage.
OH I am so thrilled for you!!! Maybe love will find me afterall!!

Purpose as an older person…story to tell. Getting my car serviced, young and older technicians work there. A younger technician was “green” in my opinion. I sought out the person who looked the oldest and started a conversation. He had been in the car industry since 1965. I told him the younger generation needed his expertise and guidance. I told him I felt comfortable and taken care of by his demeanor and knowledge. I know I made his day but he made my day. Moral of the story. We have something to offer people. Mine was encouragement and validation. His was sharing his expertise. Susan you are right. Getting out of our own heads to look for ways to bless people. It really is a great tonic for the demise of “I am getting older, what value does my life have?”
I just love your voice and your poetic ways of describing your feelings. I am so happy you feel you made the right decision. For some people it may be the opposite. They may need to get away from caring for others and create a distance in order for them to care for themselves. What ever it is we need to do to feel happier and peaceful, it's what is the right thing to do. ❤
I think buying a home & moving close to your son was the best decision you ever made. The older I get the more my faith matters to me. I watch mass every Sunday on tv. I said 5 decades of the rosary for Lent. I decided to keep it up. Your Fall decor looks wonderful. Much love, Lucy
How could anyone have a "bad" day when you open the door and there is Desi-doo so excited to see you? Like it's Thanksgiving, you are watching the parade on T.V. (followed by the Westminster Dog show!), someone else cooked, you don't have to do dishes and the next day you find you lost half a pound- rather than gained. Lol. He is wriggling in bliss!❤

My newest adventure - got a ride in the ambulance this week - dislocated my hip in the shower - had to wait 4 hrs for hubby to get home - thought I was gonna die - lived to tell about it!
Moral of the story - make sure your phone is within reach in case of an emergency!! It truly was the scariest thing that’s ever happened to me! And the most painful!!
I’m sitting here in my leg brace, thankful for my comfy chair & warm home. My grandkids are coming tomorrow - it will be such a good day!

I am attuned to living alone, no family to check in on me daily, so I make it a point to put the phone on the floor next to the toilet when I shower. This way if I fall it will be within easy reach.

Susan I moved from Alabama to Las Vegas NV atb53 and started over ...to start over from divorce and to be closer to my drandkids....everyone told me I was crazy... Well its been 27 years and I'm still here and had a great life...do what you want to do ..its your life.

I have done everything scared my whole life, Went back to college at 37, single mom, loved even when it hurt, moved on from a long relationship after years and thought I would probably die. Now, I 'm still scared but I have realized in order to go on and accomplish anything I will just have to be a little scared. We grew up in the 60's and 70's and yeah I think most people back then had sex with a person they were not in love with. We were full of life and love ! No regrets, my only regret would be to give up on life, I'm not ready for that ! Much love to you and Desi!!!
Susan, you're in huge inspiration to me. I am widowed and 69. I'll be moving back home in the spring. Moving to an area I haven't lived in in 30 years. But I have no family or friends here, so I really need to go. Although it's very scary to move on my own and make a fresh life on my own without my beloved husband. Your videos help me so much. My must to do list to motivate me in the mornings is to always thank my creator for waking me up to see another day, make my bed, shower, get dressed and then spray on my favorite body spray or perfume. Being 68 yrs old, divorced, and living alone, every day i make the effort to enjoy every moment which includes time with my grands. I am also an only child so my 4 kids, their spouses and my 11 grands are my greatest joys. Much love to you and Desi, my friend.

I just broke off my non committed relationship of 22 years because I felt like I was not living I was just existing and waiting for my weekend boyfriend we spent 22 years committed to each other but not living together ! When I first found you two years ago I started realizing that I was just existing so now I’m by myself and feeling more comfortable about every day not lonely yet lol 😂 but I feel I can do so much if I want and if I don’t it’s ok because it’s my choice and this really Susan I owe a great part to you, to your videos and your love of talking to us from the heart I’m 60 1/2 and feel like I can do this ! Susan, I look forward to hearing from you on Saturday. I've begun a new chapter in My life. It has heartbreaking, but I had to let My husband of 30 years go. He left yesterday. He said to Me the day before he left that I chose God instead of Him. Well, I became a Christian and he is not a believer. I learned that the way he treated Me was not what I deserved or what God would want Me to be treated with the disrespect. He has been addicted to porn for Our entire marriage. It's hurt Me terribly. He hurt Me physically and emotionally and now that I'm a Child of God, I couldn't allow him to treat Me the way he did. It was very abusive. He never listened to Me when I told him he was hurting Me when We were what I thought "making love ". His idea of making love was what he watched on porn. That isn't Love. So, I'm going to be OK. I'm going to make My home My Home and decorate the way I want it and enjoy being free and learning who I am again. I'm in CA and he is going to live with his daughter in Indiana. Far away from Me! I will always love him as We have a lot of memories together. But, I will not remarry Anyone. I'm with you, you never know who may come into your life and you could fall in love. But, I learned a lot from this marriage and I don't know if I will ever be able to give My heart to another man. I feel that I need time to heal and get to know Myself again. Not the person who was an object or a Trophy to show off. I know I am worthy of so much more for My time I have left. Why would I want a relationship when I don't know how much longer I have to live, due to the Cancer growing inside Me. I don't want to die Alone, but I don't want to put Anyone through that loss.

I also moved from California to a whole new country, Finland. Learning a foreign language at 39 is not easy, but I am up for this challenge. I love it here and my son loves it here too. I am making new friends slowly. I am lucky to have my husband of 14 years, he’s a Finn.

Truly resonated when you said about getting out of the house….I have a marvellous husband but not really much other family and the anxiety becomes so bad at times that I don’t even want to get out of the bed, let alone out of the house. So I push myself to have good and positive thoughts and try to go out even if it’s just for coffee at a cafe. My husband is always upbeat and very rarely feels down or anxious, but does understand how I can be, so that helps a lot.

My eldest granddaughter will be 17 in a few months and we are super close. When you make an effort to bond with your grandchildren the bonds are amazing. I totally understand why you moved. Your very wise.
There are many ways to be close with your family, grandchildren and friends without moving close by if you can’t. Be creative and use your imagination. In my case I rely on snail mail and those unexpected cards and packages just because you were thinking of someone else. Making someone else’s day in an unplanned moment makes YOURS. There are times we all feel loneliness. Finding what you love to do on your own will make you a magnet for opening new opportunities to be close to anyone. Yes, it is scary but concentrating on YOU first makes all the difference in how we react to the life around us and how connected we feel.🍀🙏
I failed to mention that my granddaughter lives two provinces away from me but we still maintain a solid bond. For sure if you can live close all the better but time is more important than distance. Take the time to bond in what ever way you can. It is the best investment.

The best decision I ever made was quitting my job after 28 years,sell and donate everything and move where my grandson is.
At 30 years old, I moved from overseas with my 2 young children with only $900 to my name. I moved to a town where I had lived in my late teens. I had no fear, I went to college but had to work more in order to make ends meet. Now I’m in my early 60’s and my biggest fear is will I have enough money to live on when I retire. You inspire me every week with your encouraging words and I thank you. I ❤ Desi, he’s perfect!
When I was younger I knew no fear…did not even think about change, just did it. As a 68 year old fears are stronger about making major changes. I am working on it. You help me so much. Give Desi a kiss and hug for me. ❤
I am 71, retired for 8 years, used to travel a lot for work. Now, I have fears about traveling alone! I joined a travel group online, hoping it would encourage me but I’m still afraid … I am hoping to start small by traveling nearby for a night stay to see how I feel. I’m happy I’m not alone in my fears as I’ve become older … I used to be so brave!

And I am tired of tv talk show hosts, news journalists, commentators and other “celebrities” and “important people” making their judgmental, asinine remarks about my home. They don’t know us. We are a generous, loving, people of many races and religions. We gave the world Elvis, Faulkner, Welty, Oprah and the Teddy Bear and so many other wonderful things! You are very brave to share and move closer to family. Well, the Doctor Y. diagnosed cancer in my right breast and the radiation treatment starts on Wednesday. I got rid of ~100 sewing patterns / hauled at least 65 books to Goodwill. I'm drawing again. Thankfully, I can find all the art supplies.There is no guilt for watching A./E. Hoarder's anymore.
I have been on the breast cancer journey. I had my final surgery to put me back together. It has been quite the journey, but I'm better for it. I was scared at first. I made it my mission to keep going with a positive attitude. I wish you much strength in your journey. ❤

Something about me. I have always had a hard time connecting to my peers. That my parents were older, my "bed-ridden" (sounds like its a buggy) granny lived w us and we moved around contributed to this. I am a movie 🎬 & book junkie. When other kids were listening to the Beatles, Hendrix and Joplin, I was listening to Hawaiian and Classical. When the Beach Boys were big I wanted the Andrew Sisters. When I hit 13 I fell for all things Victorian. I have always felt either out of step or behind step. And curiosity? And interests? I get excited over what I read, learn or encounter. Then when I am around my "peers"- except for one or two, I don't have peeps doing or studying something they are similarly excited about. Or rarely. That's where YT comes in. I get to virtually travel and experience so many other windows to other's lives & skills. But no rosin for the viola! I am very blessed to get so much enjoyment out of so many things. Even clean socks. Or finding an ink pen that writes. I may not have as much as some but I treasure what I have. Including yr channel. 😂

❤❤ I love Sunday mornings here in Perth waking up to your videos. Well I'm 71 and live 9 houses from my son and his wife and their three children. Aged from 7 to 8mths. My daughter and her husband live about a 1/4 KL from us. They have three children as well. Aged from 9 to 3. I'm the most luckiest woman on earth. My husband is 78 and bless with good health. My daughter had breast cancer two years ago and her husband had a kidney transplant at the same time. Very lucky we all live so close and can help. Love every minute. In January of 2023, I got a kidney infection (no fun). It took several months to recover. I became somewhat depressed. It is a lot of work to be sick all the time. I decided to do the 75 Hard Program by Andy Fresilla. It is a mental toughness challenge lasting 75 days. I was doing so well on the program and then on day 43 I got Shingles (lots of pain). I was going to quit but I did not. I finished the 75 days. I lost 40 pounds. I feel so much better. Sometimes we have to push ourselves through pain, depression, and loneliness to see what we are truly made of. I admire your tenacity to keep pushing forward even if it is frightening, Thank you, Susan.........
I can so relate to you. What you have been through. I am going through that now. I had my teeth taken out. Then got shingles 4 months after. In my head and face. I am still struggling every day for 2 years now. The depression, pain and try to move forward. I wish you all the best. Think I will check out that challenge. 😅
@@lizpanagiotis6738- Don’t give up…. Fight for yourself. I have a friend who developed an autoimmune disease. Than she got hooked on painkillers. Than she lost her teeth. Trying to wear dentures was just too overwhelming for her so she goes without them which has effected her health because she can’t eat properly. Now she has developed rheumatoid arthritis. She pretty much stays at home with exception of trips to the drugstore. I feel bad for her but she has just given in to all her ailments. By wearing dentures, changing to a healthy diet, getting some form of exercise for her RA, etc would have helped her so much to have a better quality of life. So don’t give up on yourself… be the best you can be even if you take baby steps! ❤

I can't believe people ask you some of this stuff....and you were brave to answer. I absolutely was NOT one of the people who said you shouldn't move!! I picked up and moved to Mexico in 2021...sold my house in Oregon and got rid of a whole lot of stuff, mostly stuff I didn't need. It was so great to start fresh again and I knew if I didn't do it now, I would probably not ever move. Where I'm living just fits me so well! I miss some of my old friends and I'm so far away I probably won't ever go back. But there are lots of new friends, there is Facebook to stay connected, and I really have never been happier. I am so glad you just went with your heart. Being a part of your grandkids' lives is very important to you and your little house is so wonderful for you and Desi! AND, I totally get it about the music. I have a hard time making music any more. Too much pain and loss, I think....the music in me died. But soon I will be sitting down at the piano to try again and see what comes out of me. It will be very different this time around....different thoughts, different life. I'm done with all the longing and pain of earlier years and somehow life is just so tranquil and peaceful now. I'm still very creative...have my little RUclips channel and very busy working on creating my tropical oasis in my back yard. It is just a different outlet for creativity and there is a limit to time and energy. Love every one of your episodes. Thank you for sharing your life with us!!

I too wear makeup everyday because like you, I feel like it's a fresh start and because I want to present my best self to the world, and it just makes me happy. Helen Keller once said that life is an amazing adventure, or it's nothing. So as long as we have breath we need to embrace that philosophy, spend time with our families and friends, and make the most of each day....thank you for sharing....it means more than you know...

My grandkids, sons, daughter-in-laws, my house, my hard, my dog, my old car that still works, myself, my business, my mother, siblings, so much emotional distance, loneliness, apathy, overwhelm, guilt...if you love something you have to take care of it. Hi Susan, you're a breath of fresh air, a beautiful calm voice to listen to. I'm in Australia and have two adult children, son is engaged, daughter lives with me, my husband and 2 sweet cats. Life's challenging but we think we're lucky as we own our own home and are still working in our early sixties. I wish you and Desi all the best.

I made a decision to move all the way across the country at age 59 to a place I picked on a map. I didn't have a job there or anything. Everyone thought I had lost my mind. But I never regretted it.
I can't tell you how much I admire you. Your humanity, kindness, smarts and down to earth personality makes you so relatable. I always look forward to your weekly vlogs. Your decision to move closer to your grandkids was the right one in order for them to really know you. I have two grandsons (9 & 13) and live 15 minutes from them. The bond I have with them since there were babies is so strong. They know my husband and I so well. It's a joy just to be around them. Yes, it's true, that once the older one got to be 12 he became "too cool" to hug grandma like he used to but that's ok. I know it's part of just be a teenager. At the end of the day, he will always know the love I have for him.
Good News... My experience has been that the hugs come back after they get through the 'awkward years'.
I am still so happy to see how happy little Desi has become! He went from rags to riches, and it shows!

Hello Susan, IVE been here still every week. I don’t say much anymore, it’s just me. But I want you to know my life seems to parallel yours the past 6 months. I had to take a leap of faith and make a change. I sold my home of 35 years with my darling husband and moved from Florida to Ohio. Afraid, yes you bet. But I also was brave and your right I can always go back. Bought a small home near my husbands family, started from scratch, but I’m very happy very content. It’s just what my husband would want for me and now I know I am able at 71 to make big changes still. I’m so loving the change of seasons, which I’ve never experienced, the beauty is beyond. I love your channel. It gives me hope, something I need right now. I just turned 66. After, putting my daughter through 12 years of college and I finished raising my husband, I decided it was my turn to realize my dream. I have been Registered Nurse for many years and I always wanted to be a Nurse Practitioner. I returned to school, I completed the 3 year program with a 4.0 and I felt so hopeful. Unfortunately, like many, I am struggling to pass the board exam. After taking it twice and each time coming so close, it’s devastating me. I know many struggle with this but I feel so much shame and fear that I made a big mistake by thinking I could do this- maybe it wasn’t meant to be. Anyway, I’ve been so sad, I haven’t dropped by your channel in a bit- I needed one of your pep talks. I’m fine, and this too shall pass, thank you for always being so real.

Susan, your open and honest answers are so interesting. At 71 years young, I too do my hair, skincare and some makeup most days. I realize that for me, it is so that I can present the best version of me each day. Doing those self care things are for me so I see them as healthy. I do try to get out most days as I would choose to be around people over any type of isolation. My cleaning day is Friday, so if nothing else is planned, I do announce to myself…..Yay….a no make up day. I consider that a gift and a choice. I am blessed to still be married to my love and best friend, going on 52 years, and to live minutes from our son and one grandson. Lately I have been seriously considering that it is time to find some meaningful volunteer work so that is next for me. I want to give back to my community , and selfishly that will keep me around people and active. Much love to you and Desi. Look forward to Hal’s visit! Take good care and have a wonderful week.

I have no family. I took care of my mother until she passed. My ex husband began having affairs after retirement. It is sometimes very scary as I age completely Alone.
Susan, I unexpectedly lol when I saw the dogs you said you would use instead of the cake topper. I laughed again about the 3 dogs. Then, it seriously hit me when you shared the most profound lesson that you've learned in the last year "You can't love something that you're afraid of". That truly IS profound. Thank you. And of course, I loved Desi's answer to the question asked about him. A Schweenie Dog. He is so adorable! I've been following you for a couple years now and am so happy for you that you saved up for your house and moved closer to your family. So many wonderful memories to be made. Oh, Little Poet, you are so right about change! I don't think anyone likes it and it is hard. I got sober many years ago and so much of that is my passion. Helping other alcoholics, giving back what was so freely given to me. They say you can't keep what you don't give away. I believed I would never have fun again but was reminded what I was doing that last year was not fun. I was a slave to the bottle. I would ask just how much I had to change and people would tell me pretty much everything. That terrified me. But I wanted sobriety so much that I did whatever it took. It was the hardest work I've ever done! That helps to keep me sober. I know I have another drink in me but not another recovery. I'm too old and it was too hard! I'm a much happier self today. I've learned acceptance, courage, wisdom, willingness and so many other wonderful things. Why would I risk losing those things?! Another great video! You look even more happy than I've ever seen you! I remember back to the very beginning. You look like the Wizard of Oz when it changes from black & white to color. You've looked in color for many years now but the colors are more vivid these last 6 months! Much love to you & Desi!!!

My mom made us sweet potato bread. She is gone now, but at 67 find it very comforting to eat still. She made it in cylinders and it was so cute.
Never told you before that I always wanted to be a singer..I once did a solo in a show in high school but that was it! It's funny because my dad taped it and ANYONE who came to our house had to hear me singing...even the mailman! Can't believe I told you that! Take care Susan...sending you and Desi love!

Ok here's something from me. When I turned 60 I put all my stuff into storage then I got in my pickup with a few things and moved to California. I was out there many wonderful years until it got too expensive. I relocated and I'm living a new and amazing adventure at almost 70. Thank you for being so open and generous with the private details of your life.
Hi Susan and Desi....I am almost 65 and my who Mother is 86 told me to check you out on you tube....so glad I did and have faithfully watched you videos for a year now. My Mother and I dicuss them afterward... My Mother always says you remind her of me... vulnerable, kind , sweet....honest and helpful with sharing your life. Hey Susan& Desi! Desi is just so darn happy running around& jumping.I am glad he has room to roam. I love sweet potatoes. I bake alot of breads,never sweet potato.😊
I kept myself locked in my apartment for 2 years. When I went grocery shopping, I felt invisible. In May over frustration with a landlord who wouldn't fix anything, I signed up for senior housing and stayed in my car with my 16 year old shih tzu. I slept in a game land parking lot at night and lived in a state park during the day. Gradually I became braver, met people curious about my lifestyle, lost weight, and found real happiness. When they called to tell me an apartment was available, I couldn't entertain the thought of ending this. It has been 5 1/2 months, a chill is in the air, and with peace in my heart, I feel ready for a new adventure. My son is flying up from Texas and we will drive down to his place, with love in my heart for this magical place and the special people I met along the way. I don't feel invisable anymore, 64 and loving it!
