    As an A7iv owner which was my first ever full frame camera...the first lense I bought was the Sony 16-36 G.
    Very small lense so it works well on a gimbal and because it's native Sony and newish the AF is outstanding and also even has focus breathing compensation.
    Having it at 16mm mitigates the 60fps well

    • @MichaelNgvyen
      @MichaelNgvyen  Год назад +3

      Hey. That is a great combo! I think the 16-35 is a great lens combo for the A7iv. Everything thing you mentioned is spot on! I do find the 4k60 at 16mm is a bit too tight for landscapes or architecture/real estate. 16mm becomes 24mm in 4k60. However in crop mode you get extra reach! 24-52mm. Thats way this 11mm is perfect for 4k60. For the ultra wide slo mo. Thanks for watching and adding to the conversation. Appreciate your time. Cheers

      16mm Full frame = 11mm APS-C
      So basically the same focal point. No?
      The thing the 16-35 G is lacking is a super fast Aperture at F/4
      But honestly I think it performs fairly well in low light it's main draw back is it doesn't have much shallow depth of field. So in those situations I switch over to my 50mm F/1.4

      @@puckhead1221 yes you are right. 11mm apsc is 16mm Full Frame. what I was trying to say was, with the A7iv in 4k60, 16mm becomes 24mm so that why its good to have the 11mm if you want to a 16mm look in 4k60. IF that is something someone needs of course..hope that made sense.

    Thanks for the great video. I'm considering this lens, so I can shoot real estate at 4K60 at a wide enough angle. The crop is really a non-issue outside of scenarios like that where you can't afford to counter the crop with distance. For that much of a niche situation, $550 is acceptable. The GM 12-24 f2.8 is really heavy, and priced at a point that saving few more $$$ for a7S3 or waiting on a a7S4 for second body that can shoot 4k60+ without crop is more appealing.

    Its funny you should mention no professional photography at a venue. I just shot a whole opening night at a venue, I tried using my phone for the whole event, I found it a great way to do it because I felt less conspicuous. Im now looking at getting the Nikon Z30 with the kit lens so I can film and take stills at certain events and be a little bit under the radar. I noticed the new Laowa 10mm f4 cookie lens that will solve the wide shots problem.

    • @MichaelNgvyen

      Hey EastPhilly. Yes the 10-18 Tamron would also give you the super wide look in 4k60 but can also use it for a super wide look in the full frame mode. It could be a great option. The 17-70 might not be a great option because the a7cii also has the crop in 4k60. So that would make the lens 25.5 on the wide end and that is still pretty tight if you want a really wide establishing shot. Hope that helps you!! Thanks for watching man!

      Yes. 4k60 on the a7cii = super35 (apsc). So no extra crop when using apsc lenses. The tamron 17-70 is 25.5 -105 in full frame equivalent. So if you want super wide in 4k60 then 10-18 ( 15-27 full frame equivalent) is better. Which these ultra wide angle lenses do you suggest for indoor real estate videography in a low light noisy situation with Sony ZV-E10 camera ?
    1. Sony 11mm f.1/8
    2. Samyang 12mm

    5. Viltrox 13mm F1.4

    • @MichaelNgvyen

      Hey Masood! The truthful and non biased answer is the Laowa 9mm 2.8, when I used to shoot real estate I found I wanted it really wide, and the Laowa gives you a 13.5mm field of view on the ZV-E10 beacuse of the crop factor. But here is why I still think the Sony is the BEST choice for you/ and the question you asked. The Sony still gives you quite a wide look (16mm) and it has the best and most reliable autofocus out of all those options above. Plus the 1.8 will help you eliminate the noise. It's sharp and accurate! Hope that helps you!

      Hey Sachin, to be honest it still very good. The video resolution is still 4.6k down sampled to 4k so to be honest i don’t notice much of a quality loss. For photo you still get 16mp which is more than enough for many situations.

  • @TimBrownTown
    @TimBrownTown 2 года назад

    Is there a loss in quality with the crop? I don't see how there couldn't be but I can't confirm.

    • @MichaelNgvyen
      @MichaelNgvyen  2 года назад +1

      Hi Tim,
      if you’re speaking in terms of video quality then no, you’re still getting 7k recording downscaled to 4k but only using the centre crop so what it affects is the field of view. It’s not really affecting the detail it captures. That’s mainly the lens. But if you’re speaking in terms of photo, then yes. Sort of. It goes from 33mp FF to 18mp in crop(apsc) mode. I hope I explained that well and made sense. Thanks for the question and commenting.

      you need to make a lens profile if one doesnt exist (takes like 3 minutes) , i recommend try to shoot with 1/400 shutter for less motion blur , apply Smoothing as little as possible for less motion blur (0.2 instead of 0.5) , and shoot at your camera native ISO in SLOG3 (800 or 3200) to reduce noise to achieve this shutter speed if necessary (havent tried this yet, just reading about it all today) . i dont have this lens (yet) , i'm experimenting with my sigma 14mm FE (4k60 crop + gyroflow) , which is very heavy to hold . remember you must turn ALL stab off in camera to use gyroflow. lemme know if you need help . tonight ill try that slog3 3200 iso with my 14mm and gyroflow and see if i can get combination of high shutter, low Smooth value , low noise (native iso), and low motion blur , in night time lighting and indoors video. oh yeah except all the lights flicker here so i have to use 1/125 so i'm screwed lol

    I guess the full frame aperture equivalent for a f1.8 lens is about 1.2 or 1.4 right? Because even the aperture is 1.5x crop. So that makes the 11mm f1.8 is about 16mm f1.4?

      About to buy this lens, I have the kit lens, 24Gm 24-70gm ii and had the 70-200 GM ii lens for my a7 iv. Really excited now because I love smooth cinematic videos and now truly appreciating Ultra wide lens

    • @MichaelNgvyen
      @MichaelNgvyen  Год назад

      Hey Yula! Thats awesome! The lens is really great for the wide look in 4k60 and versatile to get a 13mm look in 24fps. I made a updated video about the lens. But to answer your question you also just multiply the crop factor to get the approximate full frame aperture. So the lens would be 16mm f2.7. Thanks for watching and leaving your comment!

    Should I sell the 20 mm f1.8 and get the 11mm F1.8?

    • @MichaelNgvyen
      @MichaelNgvyen  2 года назад +2

      Depends. I still think the 20mm is a great lens. It’s definitely sharper and built much better than the 11mm. I still consider it my main lens. But if you shoot a lot of 4k60 then The 11mm can also be used for everything. I’ve been using it exclusively to really test it and so far super happy with it.

    Is it good to use this lens on a7iii ?
    If i activate the apsc.. the image quality willbe the same? Or the megapixel will reduce?

      Hi.. yes you can use on A7iii!..In apsc mode you get 16.5mm and if you use it in full frame mode too and zoom in a bit in post to get 13.5mm approx. Image quality isn't reduce for video. Megapixels is reduce in photos. Hope that helps

  • @tamasdebreczeni5335

    So A7IV 4k60p the APC 11mm --> 16mm and it would be the same thing with a full frame 11mm --> 16mm ? (ex. TTartisan 11mm full frame fishye)
    Or in case of 11mm APC lens is x1.5 because the size difference and another x1.5 because the 4k60p crop --> 25mm ?) I'm confused

    • @MichaelNgvyen
      @MichaelNgvyen  2 года назад +1

      Hey Tamas, first thanks for watching! and commenting.. hopefully my explanation here can help you understand better. With any APS-c lens for Sony you need to use the crop factor (x1.5) to get the Full frame equivalent.. so in this case, as you said, it is 11mm x 1.5 --> 16mm. 4k60 on the Sony a7iv crops in to APS-c mode so the 11mm is a 16mm. You don't have to add another x1.5 that why this lens helps solves the crop issue if you need something really wide for the A7iv. And basically to make things even easier to understand, no matter which mode you use (24fps, 30 fps, 60 fps, 120 fps) it will be 16mm equivalent. I am making an update video for the lens for another way to use it. Hope you are subbed so you can see it and thanks if you already are.

      @@MichaelNgvyen thx for the replay, it makes sense what you explained. But I'm curious about the FOV, the crop 11mm and the full frame 11mm lens would look the same ? In my head with a full frame 11mm lens the image should be x1.5 wider. Waiting your next video. Maybe you can actually make a comparison. A few cheap super wide manual FE lenses do exist on the market for sony.
