I picked one of these up and it sounds great with my Fender Acoustasonic guitar... It's inexpensive and very useful for the features you get! BTW, thank you for showing the functionality of this unit by playing mostly chords in your demo. Seems like most videos showing a guitar product on RUclips have people cranking on crazy leads. Not real helpful for us rhythm players when trying to judge whether it's a suitable product for our particular use. 👍

I saw this unit advertised on Amazon so was interested in hearing it in action.
From your demo I loved the delay & would probably but it for that function alone. I was less enamoured with the reverb & chorus but I imagine that it would be possible to get a more subtle chorus effect with judicious tweaking of the controls. Most acoustic amps have a decent reverb built in anyway so I would probably not use that much.
The preamp function did seem to lift the sound of the guitar. I have a passive pickup on my 12 string & would probably find that very useful to match the volume with my other guitars. It is a shame that it only has a two band EQ though as I find scooping the midrange quite helpful on a strummed acoustic.
A quick question: can both outputs be used simultaneously? It might be useful to run the XLR out into the PA whilst simultaneously sending the jack output to an amp as a stage monitor?

A jolly good instructive video. I have just purchased one of these units from Amazon for the wonderful price of £45 including postage. I had been looking at a Donner Mini pedal which included the Preamp, Chorus and Reverb effects, but every retailer seemed to be out of stock so I trawled the web and came across the oddly named Sonic Wood. For what I need, it does the business, even if the so-called instruction booklet is somewhat minimalistic. I was a bit lost with the Tap and Tail functions, but you have cleared that up for me. Many thanks. All things considered, a sturdy and inexpensive little gizmo that seems to do what it says on the tin.
    PS:
Having read some of the previous comments there would seem to be a lot of super critical guitar players out there, and probably one or two tin-ears to boot. This unit is great value for money, and I don't hear a lot wrong with the tone of your guitar either.

I like the sound of the preamp. It seems to even out the tone. The guitar has a bit of mid-range honk which disappears when the preamp is engaged. There is a slight pop though when switching. Not too noticeable when playing I guess?
Excellent review by the way. You answered pretty much all my questions. Only thing I'm wondering is whether the DI output needs a ground lift in some situations? Would I be better using a dedicated DI box with this effects pedal?

I've been using a ZOOM A1 Four. A worthy multi effects stomp box. 100 presets and a plethora of settings. It's very difficult to use on stage though. With so many options it is confusing to set your sound on the fly when you are trying to concentrate on your performance. Also it limits how much you can change in mid song. This item (the sonic wood) simplifies and solves all these problems.Thank you for this video which was instrumental (pardon the pun) in steering me to this product.
