Xymox Sucks

- I've had several Xymox Hybrid Snare drums and all of them have broken. I've been trying to get a replacement rim from Xymox for 7 months with NUMEROUS emails to no avail and thus I finally gave up on them coming through with any replacement parts. It's been my experience based on owning several of them that the hybrid snare concept just isn't up to the challenge of a marching snare tensioning and, Xymox is a worthless company not deserving of anyone's money.

Well this was long overdue, just like their orders.
yup
Which no one will ever receive
I'm glad that you made this video my friend because at some how I was gonna try to see if I get one those Hybrid Marching Snare Pads but now I heard from few other people including you that Xymox is not a good company. So I'm glad that I didn't try to place an order to them because I might not gonna get my money back from them. But I did bought a marching snare drum pad off from Amazon by this brand called HUN-U it's made from Japan it has that RCP look it's a U-12 model. What I like about it it came with a bag and on the bag it has 2 slots that I can place my marching sticks in. And it does has that marching snare sound. I wish they could've made those particular pads when I was in high school back in 1995. Man I'm 48yrs old now when I play my snare pad I've reminiscing when I was in my high school marching band I had a great time.
We marched Yamaha in HS. They were hand me downs from ASU. I loved them.
I purchased 2 pads back in 2019 that I’m still waiting for. One of them was for my nephew’s 16th bday, and he has since turned 18 and left for the navy. They changed their website and they essentially erased all old logins and info regarding old orders. I don’t even know what to do anymore. Every time I email them, I receive a form letter back in return.
That's more than I get. I don't even get the form response now.
File a claim through your bank. They will give you the money back and pursue action with xymox. It will be their problem at that point.
same for me too
same for me
When I was in drumline years ago, Xymox was the hot thing to get. You were the objectively cool kid for having a Xymox lol.
But I will say this, back then their lead times were better, but unfortunately the owner and his partner had a reputation for having questionable responses towards issues that happened.
Needless to say, I heard it got worse and worse with more people getting really put off by them and even more so by the outrageous lead times that by today's standards are inexcusable as demand increased.
The owner back then was very staunch about quality control, which we respected. But it still raised eyebrows because even then, we all knew the small team they had working on these pads was not going to hold out long term.
It's really sad to see that a company that had tremendous potential degraded over time. I still love my Xymox pad. But it's sad to revisit RUclips to see latest videos showing the company has met it's inevitable downfall.
Even the Facebook group has essentially gone dead.
well ive heard they they have got better because people posting videos from about a month ago say they got it within 1 to 2 week
The worst part is Xymox is making money… HAND OVER FIST. Everyone wants a drum from them. They should be able to hire a CS team to handle the emails and social media. They’re trying to stay mom/ pop op, but the demand is so high, the service is just bad.
Much needed video! I had gotten 2 hybrids actually one of them was your blue rim one. I had it in my room just sitting there didn’t touch the tuning and the bottom just cracked out of nowhere. Got the one I originally ordered back in 2019 and the top rim cracked. Its all garbage even their regular pads they don’t use gum rubber. Just neoprene so its a dead response. All garbage.
That sucks, as does Xymox. I'm sorry to hear that about the one of mine you got especially, but I guess given my experience in the end it's unfortunately not surprising. Xymox had just sent me a replacement one that I didn't touch tuning-wise or anything and I didn't need 2 of them. I think I had talked to your mom about it way back then. It was a great concept and maybe would be if it was just concert snare tensioned. Unfortunately they don't seem to be able to take anything close to marching snare tension.
I'm glad I seen this. I was interested in ordering one of these, but was unsure how the plastic would hold up. I had a xymox snare pad from the late 90s/early 00s. I always loved the pad nothing like it at the time, so I was interested in these new products. Im sad to see this...
Yea, don't bother with them
@@SnareMan what's the next best option?
@@samuri119 I like Offworld and Rampad best so far. Check out my videos on them.
@@SnareMan Thank you, I'll check them out.
@@samuri119 You're welcome!
Hello, I love your channel. What do you think is the best marching snare drum head? I have a Pearl marching snare. Also do you , or can you do a video on tuning a marching snare.
Thank you !!
I've had two Xymox pads, neither of which were bought from Xymox. I bought one
from an individual on the internet and another I traded a pad with my college room
mate. So I have never dealt with Xymox directly and never will. Sad that a company
with such great products has such a bad customer service record.
There's no excuse for that.
Agreed
I am a freshman in school and getting my first drum pad. And that is going to be the off world version 3 and I'm excited. Also are you still doing the blue coats alumni drum corps. That'd be cool to see a video on that. Keep up the good work.
Offworld is a great choice! Yup, still doing alumni corps, which is one of the reasons I bought the real marching snare as they are just a different feel than a pad and we have to submit videos along the way of us playing. I'm hoping to get some videos of the experience.
Off world pads are really nice, they should never break on you because there is no adjustable parts. They also feel really nice
I remember when Xymox used to have booths at drum corp shows. Lately, they are something else
That would make it too easy for the whole show to gang up on them and tell them they suck and where is my order from 3 years ago.
@@SnareMan I should be more clear. This was late 90's /early 2000's. I remember when even band instrument stores carried xymox pads
@@timslee0618 yeah I heard and even from talking to xymox back when they were still friendly, that they used to be a much different company
@@SnareMan I'm guessing a ownership change happened
@@timslee0618 I forget what Jen (who is apparently no longer there) told me about the early days of Xymox back when I think they were making pads for big name companies even.
glad you noticed
At least you got yours I ordered mine in July 2019. Emailed and nothing so here we are today paid for product and no product.
I bought mine Oct 2019, and like a dummy ordered another for a sale the did Feb 2020
🙌
We need a class action.
I ordered from rudimental drummer, very excited. 100% agree with this video.
I ordered a snare pad in September 2020 and tenor pads in November 2020. Haven’t heard anything back since.
Your money has long since disappeared. 👎
I haven't had problems with xymox. Got my pad the week after ordering it, been well over a year and it still works as good as the day i got it
meanwhile people that ordered their pads years ago still haven't gotten them.
@@SnareMan that sucks to be them. I feel like they may have gotten better with it. I paid $92 for the pad and 16 for shipping
@@Bradenst They are still crap for a company. They should have filled orders in the order they were placed instead of just taking more money from new customers and crapping on people that had paid a year ago effectively stealing their money.
@@SnareMan yeah. I like your reviews and so the only pad i got was the 12" practice reserve, ive been using it over a year and love it, however i will not waste my money on their hybrid snare. Watching your review on it i see its garbage
@@Bradenst it had such potential, but unfortunately it's garbage
Like I’ve said, great products, not so great delivery
Great video! The owners of Xymox are a sad stain on the world of percussion. Their horrible business model is a joke and they don't know the meaning of customer service. I hope this video helps to discourage future customers from supporting them. XYMOX IS WORSE THAN COMCAST.
I ordered a tenor pad on April 16th, I received it today, may 3rd. They are taking care of new orders but not old ones. They are trying to save their company by pushing out new orders, but I think that they not sell anything and focus on old orders for a while. But hey, atleast I got my order.
I'm glad you got yours. They are still a total crap company though for not taking care of their 'customers' that gave them money 2 years ago. .
I ordered my drum August 2nd of 2019. Still have not heard back from them about getting it.
Not surprising
Hello, xymox is now saying that there shipping is 1-4 business days now in 2022 I was wondering if you would be able to do another review to see if it lives up to new expectations?
No. Because I'm not buying a pad from them to test that
@@SnareMan well I mean it doesn't have to be a pad it can be anything for a cheap price just to see there shipping is
@@soup8846 I'm not giving them any of my money. You are welcome to try it.
Where else could I get a pad that has that snare practice sound??

Literally ordered my pad a week ago and it just came in seems like there doing a lot better
Which is great for you. Yet the people that ordered 2 years ago still don't have theirs.
@@SnareMan yeah definitely it sucks that they’re taking care of new customers instead of ppl that have been waiting years
A little bit of an anticlimax. I was expecting a wood chipper or flamethrower for the defective product.
Lol. I should have. Apparently trash can was as exciting as I could come up with
I think I know why your drum broke in three spots. You went in a circle on your tension rods instead of across in a star pattern. I’ve seen metal rims crack that way.
That shouldn't cause it to crack with only a quarter turn per lug. I usually go crosswise, but since I was throwing the drum out I didn't care.
@@SnareMan it’s funny I commented right before you say in your vid “don’t yell at me for going in the wrong order.” 😂😂😂😂 I’m just happy you put this video out to tell the truth about xymox
It has to be an incredibly old metal rim for it to crack that way and it would likely have to be 2-3 full turns. 9 times out of 10 the head will just break instead.
Where did you get that SCV statue you have in your background?
Here you go. Michael Needham. He marched SCV in the late 80's. www.needhamdesigns.com/work
I also show it up close in this video: ruclips.net/video/10idhpF3W-U/видео.html
Where’d you get the Neil peart replica drum toy?
ruclips.net/video/10idhpF3W-U/видео.html
I also recommend not giving them any money. I actually got my snare pad and got it relatively quickly. Rim wouldn't stay tight and would come loose. the snare puck cover ripped right out the bottom and leaked the bearings all over my floor. Poor product quality.
a bunch of loose bearings on the floor doesn't sound pleasant
I am still waiting for mine still from them
Don’t mince words Snareman…tell us what you really think!
Xymox sucks
My high school is in Shawnee but I don't recognize that drum wrap.
It apparently used to be white. It was wrapped before I bought it
Agreed! They blocked me online for telling the truth. Waited 9 months for a pad, showed up I correct. Once I went to there local BBB I had a new pad in a week lol
The Hook dropping the science! I just beat the living shit out of a hard pine board, 18x 10x2. Cost=1.70$ and zero wait time. I'm 52 and can still really drum. I owe a bunch of that to just developing a strong sound on WOOD. YMMV....
Thier new site does has ready to ship items. I have gotten 2 snare pads and a tenor pad within a few weeks.
Exactly the problem, at least some of it. Why do you get orders ahead of people that have been waiting 2 years?
@@SnareMan I agree. It's a shame that they don't just give the people who have been waiting a been waiting a voucher for a free pad so they can at least get a pad even if it's not the one that they custom made originally
@@gavin_bigred that would imply that they actually care about their customers and they obviously do not
Greetings @SnareMan , I was wondering if you might still have that broken Xymox hybrid drum lying around: Would you care to give it a new purpose? Me and my friendo want to become pad makers and our intent is to get a hold of a lot of Xymox gear on an attempt to study their flaws and make perfect newer pads-some of our ideas are inspired after Xymox however, we’re good with our hands and our intent is to really just study their designs and create better quality final/ finished products-overall we mainly just also want to make pads for our high school drumline..
Thank you if you’ve read this far and I’ll be sure to see your reply if you do leave one...

What did your other comment say? I only see this one
@@SnareMan basically they are Muted Pipe Snares, top internal snare only,no shell using only top rim and suspension hoop. I bought two high tension marching snares, which I used for the conversions before I saw that Trixon and another make a field series snare, top only wedge style.

@@SnareMan I found this exact model of yamaha sfz for 200 dollars in pretty low condition. However, turned it into a fun project! My dad and I took everything apart, ditched the old used heads. All the parts were dirty and had a little gunk on them so we cleaned all metal parts with soap and water, then cleaned off the wood on the snare. After doing that, it all looked brand new. One of the lugs was stripped, and a rod was bent. New rod and lug casing was a total of 40 dollars, and it shipped within a week or two. After that, we were able to put everything together and it looks almost brand new. Put some nice new heads on it and it's my favorite drum now.
I’ve ordered and paid for a $500 table pad from Xymox in 2020 and I still have not received it yet. They don’t respond to emails, Instagram messages, nothing. Xymox sucks!!!

Theyre such trash pads. I bought two of them like 10 years ago before they even had the pads with the rims, they actual surface was like a cheap plastic that ripped off within a week.
