    i have a great tip for people with threaded barrels. Skip the thread locker and the set screws. Go to Harbor freight and get an o-ring kit. Find one that fits your barrel. Put it on before you thread your accessory on. It will stop it from loosening. Ive been using the same one on my barrel for 2 years now. i shoot weekly. Its never come loose. I also keep the o-ring lubricated so it doesn't dry out.

    Tacticool Carry Comps FTW!
    MALL NINJAS love comps for concealed carry for a longer pistol without increased barrel length and muzzle velocity or sight radius.
    ARMCHAIR OPERATORS love comps for home defense for the increased muzzle blast to blind and deafen themselves.

    Great video. i bought a Faxon threaded barrel and comp for my M&P Gen 1 - worked right out of the box, currently around 400-500 rounds through it, no hiccups, with a few diff loads (primarily 115/124gr target) - just ordered a new slide to add an optic. I've noticed the gun absolutely shoots flatter for follow-up shots and faster shooting, but agree that slow-fire accuracy is pretty much the same. I don't think you can underestimate cool-factor on these - they look dope. EDC - I think it's fine to run one, not necessary, but if you're okay w/ the minimal extra weight, and added length - why not? Thanks for the upload.

    One reason I’m considering a compensator is as a out of battery shield. If I have to pull my gun in a ground fight and I go to press it into the perps body it will likely be pushed out of battery (making it impossible to fire.) With the compensator connected to the barrel it would keep the slide from being pushed back and solve that issue.

    • @shootinbruin3614
      @shootinbruin3614 2 года назад

      A barrel mounted compensator will not help prevent the gun from going out of battery in a pistol with the common Browning-based action. Pushing on the comp will also push back on the barrel and in most guns this is sufficient to not let the gun fire

    It's interesting how many "tactical" youtube "instructors" have very little high-level competition experience. I'm not saying that competition equates to TACTICAL experience, but it DOES equate to very thorough TECHNICAL knowledge. It's like how F1 motorsports tech eventually trickles down to the enthusiasts and finally dealership / showroom features.
    I've been a hobbyist / enthusiast for 20years and this is literally the first time I've heard such a clear explanation of the impact of bullet weight and velocity on the efficiency of compensators.

    I found compensators work. I bought Tonti for my APX.. But I discovered they're only good when they work. It made my pistol pretty unreliable, affecting its cycling. That ran me down the rabbit hole of guide rod springs. Then, striker springs for some reason. I even coated the barrel with NP3 for lubricity in cycling. All the comp did for me was make the pistol finicky to the point the pros didn't outweigh the cons.

    I run a zev v2 on my mr918 elite. I love it! Every shot from the first shot out of that gun was done with the comp. And 600 rounds later and not a single failure. It makes a huge difference on how flat it shoots

    quick story and why I don't use a comp on a carry pistol: I had just comped my G26 and started doing close retention drills (where you shoot off your ribs in a close quarter situation), well, I caught shrapnel in the eyebrow. I didn't think beforehand about the direction of the expelled gasses or how that relates to shooting position. If comped, you have to be aware of those things or you'll get hurt. Needless to say, I don't want to have to remember which way to contort the pistol and/or the situation may not even allow time/distance for it. Just food for thought.

    Thanks for all the excellent info! I was seriously considering getting a compensator for my Canik Elite Combat. But with the info you provided, since my gun is solely used as a defensive EDC tool, I don’t think there would be a benefit for me to get one. For a defensive gun, I don’t want to add anything that could even remotely affect reliability. Plus I would rather spend the money on practice and training ammo than a compensator, then a lighter recoil spring, then have to go through even more money finding the right ammo that would work best with it and hope I can even find the ammo. For competition, sure. A comp would be great. For EDC self defense, not so much, I think.

    I have a Beretta 92 with a comp. It's my home defense gun and favorite pistol I own to shoot at the range. I personally would not put a comp on a carry gun because it makes it less concealable and I carry appendix, so the extra length would make it uncomfortable for me. Ported barrels are also great for reducing muzzle rise. They don't add any extra length to your gun and you don't have to worry about using hotter ammo or changing out the recoil spring but they don't look as cool as comps.

    I would really be interested in how one of the super light extra high velocity loads would work with a comp such as Lehigh defense Extreme defender 68gr or Fort Scott munitions lightweight load. These are getting near or over 2000FPS and generally are considered lighter recoiling even without a comp.

    • @jordanjeanette7672
      @jordanjeanette7672 2 года назад

      I wouldn't consider it. I carried a load like this for awhile, and I planned on running it on a parker mountain machine build. Bear in mind, I was not using Lehigh defense, and I'm no expert. This is just my experience. The ammo I was shooting was 90 grain (ish) and was rated at like 1700fps if I remember correctly. It would barely cycle my slide with no comp. I wouldn't carry it, if I were you

    Got a 4.5" threaded barrel on the way for my G3. Will be getting (most likely) a Agency Arms 417 dual port. BUT....I'll be sending the assembled gun to the 460Rowland company to rework the barrel to their 960 conversion. It's a longer 9mm case, same weight slugs, but goes 1600 fps and makes ~650 ft lbs, in the mid-range of 357 magnum power.

    I don't know how I missed this video last year?! Excellent overview that mirrors my own experiences in many ways.
    Personally, I've gone back and forth for carry. I've gone away from the comp for daily carry the last year or so. I farm, and frequently shoot from my tractor cab at vermin. Even with the door open, and with my elecronic muffs...the comp'd gun with appropriate handloads is freaking brutal inside a metal/glass cab. It's like getting punched in the face while blasting my ears at the same time. Not fun.
    Probably not the most valid reason for shying away from the carry comp...but that's just me. Also, as you mentioned, messing around with aftermarket springs on a carry gun is always a pain in the ass. Finding a good high pressure load (not to mention a handload that duplicates the performance) takes time and money as well.
    Also, I've had complaints at training courses from people who don't wear high quality muffs. I shot a high volume course at an indoor training facility a couple years ago. I didn't make many new friends that day.

      @Cheng Lee I've been buying ammo cheap and stacking it deep since 2015. I had about 20K rounds of ammo in March when talks of the 1st "quarantine" were going around in my state. I'm down to just over 14k rounds of ammo so I'm about to cut down on shooting even more until ammo stock starts to come back and gets back to being cheaper.

    Excellent video on compensators. I agree with everything you said, especially when it comes to ammo choices. My standard "non-compensated" match loads is a 147gr at about 860fps. Soft shooting for sure, but it won't work a comp worth a damn. If you're shooting factory ammo, ammo from Fiocchi, S&B, and Speer Lawman rounds run nicely in the comp gun with the 115gr loading. Likewise the WW 124 NATO. If you like heavier bullets, the 147 Speer Lawman and the Federal 147 American Eagle function nicely in my comped Canik SFX.

    I plan to put a 45 blast on my TP9 EC. It’s a bit Gucci to begin with and I want it to shoot as flat as possible. Mostly for added weight coupled with a light.
    It’s a range gun specifically so it makes sense to me.
