  • Finally got my first Rescue 1 catch of 2024! This call was for a windsurfer in distress north of Golden Gardens. The original call location was Blue Ridge Park, so I started walking to the corner of 24th and 85th to catch units there. While I was en route, they changed the call location to Golden Gardens, so I started jogging back home to get my car.
I managed to catch Ladder 5 as I got close to home, and barely got Battalion 6 as I headed to the car. I drove down to Golden Gardens, and somehow managed to get Ladder 5 for a second time as they arrived on scene. Not sure how I beat them there 😂
Rescue 1 arrived shortly after, in their old rig. I also got great looks at Fireboat 2 as it loaded rescue swimmers and the divers from R1. The call was cancelled shortly after the boat left.
My camera didn't love the combination of low environmental lighting plus bright flashing lights, so the shots of Saft2 and M44 didn't turn out that well. If you want to see the Suburbans in action, check out my videos from 2019 and before, such as this one: • Large Seattle Fire res...

Impressive lineup on the catch Lucas, especially on scene footage. Highlight of course was the fire boat!

Thanks Jeff! I agree, I love it when I get a chance to see one of the boats.

Great catches; you must've driven straight down the hill to get there ahead of L5! Fireboat 2 sounds like it sports some pretty beefy powerplants!

Thanks Craig! L5 was heading westbound down 85th, the same route I took, so I'm not sure how I beat them. My guess is that Golden Gardens Drive might be too much for even the tiller to handle (maybe that hairpin turn by the overflow parking), so they must have gone down 32nd to 61st? Not sure. And I agree about the boat - definitely sounds like it has some power to it!

Good video. I make it up to Seattle from Vancouver a few times a year and always love seeing SFD.

Nice catches, Lucas! Saw this one last night and started listening to it. I knew that you’d try to be out there getting some units! As for the new R1 coming back, all of us West Seattle buffs have got info that it will not be coming back any time soon sadly.

Thanks! Interesting about the R1 rig - do you know what's going on with it? Just bad mechanical problems?

If that boat is Seattle Fire Department how does it have blue emergency lights on it? Do the rules about law enforcement only being allowed to use blue flashing lights only apply to motor vehicles or something?

Not positive, but my guess is that maritime lighting laws differ from land based laws, since all of the SFD boats have blue lights. The Fire Marshal SUV also has red and blue lights, but I'm guessing that's because they're law-enforcement adjacent. Thanks for watching!

R1 running a spare? Still having issues w/the front line rig?

Apparently - one of the other comments said they heard it'll be out of service for a while...
