- At around 12:30 PM in the Brentwood area of Los Angeles, Los Angeles Fire Department EMS 9 was responding code 3 to a call, when it collided with another vehicle driven by a young woman. The crash occurred at the intersection of Veteran Avenue and Wilshire Boulevard.
There were no injuries in this incident, only resulting in moderate damage to both the departments vehicle and the other vehicle.
This post was not made the point blame at either of the people involved, simply to show what happened. Please refrain from rushing to conclusions and let the department run their investigation.
At the end of the first clip you can see Rescue 94 almost hit another car, please be sure to be mindful in both positions.

That’s insane!! The ambulance almost got hit too! People really need to pay more attention.
Well that's any major city for you.
@@nozdormu89 Ah... even rural cities too mate
Well that’s California for you New York City is just as bad Chicago Is even just as bad
No, as a paramedic myself this is absolutely the chase car’s fault. They did not properly clear the intersection before proceeding.
@@literalantifaterrorist4673 So, it perfectly LEGAL to pull out in front of your ambulance and disreguard the law of "persons driving must pull over, or stop for emergency vehicles with lights and sirens"?? I'll remember that for the next time a cop, ambulance, fire truck wants to run a red light with its lights and siren on. My Green Light gives me the Right of Way, Not your lights and sirens. You can sit in traffic like everyone else.
This is why you should ALWAYS assume there’s more than one emergency vehicle approaching and double check before proceeding!
VW doesn't look like they ever stopped.
@@NoName-kw2fg I know

Violation code 3 in CA. Slow down 15 mph or less or stop on red and proceed after it ascertain the intersection is clear and safe.
CHP might get the EMS guy for that. Well see.
@@donstarr7261 true, but either way, the civilian was just as much at fault. Emergency vehicles have flashy lights, sirens, and air horns for a reason. I can hear and see them very well, and when I do hear one I check my area in a 360 view, and when I see the vehicle in sight, I slow down and pull over. If I have to stop I stop. Yes they have to yield to traffic and clear intersections, but that’s not only for safety reasons, but because of dumbasses like the moron in the VW that didn’t pay attention. There’s so many people that blow off emergency vehicles running code, even when they do yield and clear intersections. It pisses me off honestly, and in this instance the responding unit had to back out the call and tend to this low IQ individual because they decided to accelerate through the intersection without listening and checking for additional emergency vehicles.
I am a retired LEO of 36 years. Operating with Lights and Siren is NO guarantee of anything. Even going with a Green Light at a Intersection I would almost come to a Stop and make Eye Contact with all the other drivers to see that they knew my intentions, then I would "Creep" through the intersection. Driver's Texting, On the Phone, Noise Insulated Cars and Trucks, it's a crap shoot.
I can only imagine Car Insurance Costs in California, especially for Public Safety. Even in my day, your department was paying "High Risk Premiums".
Sad but, yes.
Gotta stop at all lights!
People are so distracted and don't hear sirens or see lights.
Best is when they just stop in front of you.
Been driving fire apparatus for a good 30 years as a volunteer. Same thing - stop / creep through every intersection.. proceeding when you know everyone is stopped. There have been a few close calls over the years. It’s better to take those extra few seconds vs never making it to the scene.
I love the ones that you have to wait for then they pull over 100’ up the road😅
Same here ex EMT and Leo I did the same at lights and stop signs. I definitely didn't want a death on my mind.
My car doesn’t even have noise insulation and with my music down low, I’ve noticed some sirens I can’t hear until the ambulance is a few feet away
Apparently the LAFD can actually PREDICT when and where an accident is going to happen and dispatch EMS to the scene proactively. They’re that good! 😂😂😂
Or just very well aware of a spot with much emergency traffic that looks to be a frequent "trouble" area with a high chance of something happening 😅 Near a hospital maybe?
No they can’t
The Ambulance was One , The Other Could have been an actual MEDIC OR An Officer dispatched for “Command “ on Scene .
This type of Incident has been sharply Increasing as the Illegals grow in population .
The LAFD and the drivers insurance co are going to want to see this footage.
Already in touch
Video is not necessary. I was an accident investigator in NY & it'll be quite obvious from the stories & damage what happened. Fault is shared here. Off-setting penalties but let's not play it over.
@@dbyers3897 How can the fault be shared if the VW driver argues he didn't have time to react as EMS9 was covered by the other vehicle until the last second?
When driving if vehicles are stopped in the middle of the intersection or street something is going on and I slow down it’s just common sense
ems vehicles usually have dashcams anyway
Honestly this is peak confusion for motorists. RA-71 going one way, EMS-9 going the opposite way, both code 3. Then as RA-92 approaches you have the 2 wrecked vehicles as a distraction (with EMS-9 emergency lights still flashing). Then, without opticom or similar system to override the traffic signals you have an absolute nightmare scenario. Amazing catch!
Yup, a lot of stuff going on at once at one intersection
That’s the city of L.A. for ya.
What happened to the common sense? You would think an EMS Captain would understand there’s a lot of action at an intersection especially been one of his units just passed. It’s better to take it safe than sorry I’m slow down wait a few seconds make a complete stop and proceed with caution.
I totally agree with you !!!!
@@Comeon-no6jo emergency vehicle drivers are immune from legal action if the crash happened while the emergency driver was responding to an emergency. It is the citizen drivers' duty to make certain that the intersection is clear before entering, even with a green light. The white VW, although they share negligence with the emergency driver, will likely be liable for the damages. Driving rule #1 be aware of your surroundings, look where you are going. Rule #2 Pull over or yield for red or blue lights and sirens. The fact that over drivers stopped indicated there was sufficient warning the emergency vehicle was coming.
@@exploreraa983no they are not. I’ve been driving an ambulance for 19 years. I need to obey all laws of the road like everyone else.
First thing you learn in EVOC: Clear each lane independently as you take the right of way through a red light, don’t cross through the path of lane that you haven’t cleared visually. What happens when you don’t do that? Driver of EMS9 can tell you.
This comment should be pinned. So true.
Yeah can't blame the driver, he saw that first ambulance drive through and was probably looking down the road the ambulance came from not thinking that another one would come from the other side at the same time. It's hard to even hear where the sirens are coming from when inside of a vehicle. it's the emergency vehicle's responsibility to clear both left and right before crossing. But we all make mistakes and i hope the driver didn't get the blame and got his car fixed.
You get hit by an inattentive driver? If you're about to drive through a green light, but the car in front of and next to you slams on their brakes, you probably should too.
Absolutely correct. In my years as a cop my rule was "no eye contact, no go, stopped or not"
Preach. EVOC teaches you never assume drivers see you. Both times here the emergency vehicles had red lights which is why you are supposed to come to a complete stop until the intersection is clear
What I'm assuming happened is the white car saw the ambulance pass and assumed that was the only vehicle, and that it was safe to go through the intersection. Their view of EMS9 was most likely obstructed by the other vehicles, and by the time they saw it they couldn't come to a stop in time.
Exactly right.
That’s why they call it a chase vehicle.
I don't fault the driver for not initially seeing EMS9, but the Mercedez driver to their left starting and then abruptly stopping after the first ambulance crossed should've been an obvious clue that something was up.
Sirens people!!! Both the Ambulance and EMS9 had their sirens on unless that driver is deaf you stop regardless to an approaching siren not go through that intersection the way that driver did. DRIVER DEFINITELY AT FAULT!!!
Also EMS9 already crossing the intersection when that car drove right through the intersection and hit EMS9
Turned that medic SUV into a newer model haha. With the damage to the front, it’s shaped similarily to the newer models. Great catch!
Haha one way of seeing it
Oh my goodness! People need to pay attention. I am glad you caught that on video!
In ohio that was entirely on ems 9. You're asking permission to enter a red light here, you get into an accident like this, it is your fault.
@lawoftheland5923 many other places too. You stop fire engine or ambulance, make sure it is safe, then proceed.
People are dumb they don't pay attention and they don't hear the sirens
I just clicked on this video without reading the title, shocked would be an understatement when they hit. Crazy. Nice footage
Yup it was super unexpected, glad you clicked!
@@socalfirebuff91377thats not a fire truck technically. It's a chief's car
People need to realize that if one emergency vehicle enters an intersection, chances are there’s going to be another one coming, possibly from another direction.
Possibly!! You said it. Possibly!!
Never in my 8 years of driving have I ever seen that unless they are going the same direction
Clear proof too many people should not be on the roads.
I hope everyone is okay. STOP FOR EMERGENCY VEHICLES.
Holy crap! Your page is about to blow up with this one dawg. Amazing footage!
As a driver for a volunteer fire department, I always hit the airhorn prior to hitting any traffic at least three times to alert traffic that we are in the immediate vicinity and hopefully be alerted to approaching emergency vehicles.
I was a company member of a volunteer FD in CA and running code 3 we were trained to come to a full stop on a red signal and proceed only after clearing the intersection, no exceptions. Guess that's not a policy at LAFD.
Every department every state is different
@nicktom52 then some departments have higher accident rates
@@0524cami not really
@@nicktom52uh. It’s a state law in California that every emergency vehicle must come to a stop at a red light while responding code 3.
@@eriksand9262not true. Company policies, say come to a complete stop. I work EMS. Law says to slow down to about 15mph and only proceed when it’s clear.
Thats crazy 3 units routed through that one intersection on 3 different calls.
It’s a crazy busy intersection
Wow! Great capture of that footage. Glad nobody was injured.
And if you're in an injury mvc, best to have an ambulance nearby!
The number one thing that people should learn from this is if you hear sirens, stop. Secondly, if you see a vehicle in the lane next to you come to a stop… Don't pass them on the right willy-nilly… There's a reason they stopped.
The only takeaway here is that if you see a car stopped in front of you for no good reason, realize that he might see something you do not. Don't just blow past him.
Reminds me of the train coming from one direction and as the last car passes you floor it not considering another train coming from the other direction on the opposite track.
If you see one emergency vehicle running lights and sirens assume there's more not far behind and pay attention
Yes totally sometimes people are inpatient and it just run the red light
Should be common sense, but ya know...
Hindsight is always 20/20.
EMS9 needs to take EVOC again. That was completely avoidable, white car had the green, and while yes, they should have been paying attention, it's ultimately up to the apparatus that's overtaking an intersection to make 100% sure it's clear in all directions.
Anyone who says they arent at fault need to educate themsleves.
Why don't you educate me what you're supposed to do when you hear siren you are supposed to stop right and pull over when possible, right? Not continue to drive through the intersection.
@@albertomadeirajr7824 Not too long ago, I was driving through town when I heard emergency vehicle sirens, but I did not see any emergency vehicles. I looked ahead, I looked behind, but I could not find them. I had absolutely no idea where the sirens were coming from. Then, as I drove through an uncontrolled intersection (one with stop signs on the cross street but not for me), a police cruiser with lights and sirens suddenly appeared on the cross street to my left, and he turned right (going in the opposite direction I am). It was literally the exact same situation as this, except the emergency vehicle turned right instead of going straight (and the intersection didn't have stop lights). This just shows that, though you may hear the sirens, you have no idea where they are coming from until they are right upon you.
Legally speaking, this will likely be the fault of the EMS 9 driver. Due regard and EVOC teaches us that when you go through a red light, you are to treat every lane as its own intersection and clear them 1 at a time, stopping at them before proceeding through. This doesn’t take away from the idiocy of the general public drivers, but unfortunately the liability will likely fall on the emergency vehicle driver.
Incorrect, the fault is shared by both drivers as they were both moving & failed to operate with due care. The white vehicle had a green light but failed to yield to an emergency vehicle which may result in a fine of ~$500. The EMS car failed to properly clear the intersection before proceeding as you stated but had siren & red lights activated. If there were injuries, which is doubtful due to the low speeds & minor damages, or serious damage, either might require mitigation via legal action.
@@dbyers3897 in most states, yielding to emergency vehicles is not against the law, just frowned upon (I’m not sure what the law is in California). Running emergency in any sort of vehicle just “requests” the right of way, it does not guarantee it. This wreck could have 1000% been avoided had the emergency vehicle properly cleared the intersection. Again, that’s not to say the white car wasn’t an idiot, because they were. However, whenever an accident occurs in an intersection, it’s very difficult for it to not be the emergency vehicle operator’s fault
@@lukefoster726well no duh, California doesn’t even have laws anymore 😂
Idiot driver sees car stopped and hear sirens. Idiot driver continues through intersection even though a car has stopped without checking. Medic driver was being really cautious and if idiot driver stopped to look or even slowed down instead of speeding through the intersection with a stopped car and really close sounding sirens then wouldn’t have happened.
Dude that’s crazy Great footage 👍 this is gonna get some attention from the news one way or amother
It’s always a shame when an Amazing units gets hit. People should be paying more attention because THESE FIRST RESPONDERS are keeping us safe, and people like these obviously don’t give a shit when one is responding.
Huge L for the woman
But the same can be said for first responders when they go through red lights while responding, they have to take even more care.
Nope that was the fire SUV fault . He didn’t clear the intersection.
Emergency services are required to clear the intersection before proceeding, so stuff like this doesn't happen. This was the firefighters fault
@@chpman2013 And have to ask every incompetent and unwilling person personally for their permission to drive past... Would you like a pizza with that or perhaps a greasy burger?
First responders should learn to clear intersections. It’s basic stuff.

Wild. Hopefully everyone is okay
Crazy catch. And then right after that at the end of the video that ambulance blows thru a red light ….
Almost had 2 crashes for sure
Yeah and ironically the EMS slowed right down and still had a prang, where the last one literally bowled through it.
It's unbelivable the lack of discipline in those drivers when emergency services are passing through, the ambulance shouldn't be the one dodging traffic! Give way people!!
thank you for making learning such an enjoyable experience!
That white VW Tigan purposely blocked that ems suv that was going to an emergency call. That white car should have waited.
Look carefully. You have two units going in opposite directions. The RA clears the intersection while EMS 9 approaches in the opposite direction. The first white car stops in the intersection blocking the view of the second white car, who probably thought the siren was fron the ambulance that just passed. Perfect storm. I don't think the driver of the civilian vehicle was really all that at fault to be honest. And then RA92 almost clips a car blowing a red without clearing lane by lane.
Yup, if even the supervisor vehicle isn't clearing intersections, then the very next ambulance also doesn't do it, that's probably an issue with the department as a whole...
What?! The siren is not loud enough for ya?!
I pulled over the other day for a fire truck, two cars ahead of me pulled over. The car behind them swerved into the oncoming lane to pass the two that had pulled over. He was never aware of lights and sirens directly behind him. Check your rear view mirror occasionally.
Wow. hopefully all involved are okay. Great catch of this incident!
Yup no injuries, thank you!
Wow! Great catch!
I live in Henderson NV. We have devices that prevent this from happening. They change the lights green for EMS when that vehicle is equipped with a transponder.
I’ve always said, if you collide with an emergency vehicle that’s running code 3, lights & siren, you should lose your driver’s license automatically, no questions asked, no excuses, no exceptions.
To all the people saying the VW ain’t at fault hand in your license fire truck slowed down and stopped when it seen the 1st white car then white car stopped fire truck proceeded then VW overtakes stopped traffic and crashes into fire truck
I agree
I said this above--if the VW is NOT at fault, then I don't know why I have been stopping for any emergency vehicle with its LIGHTS AND SIRENS BLARING...from now on, my selfish side will kick in and it's going to be, "Gramma having a heart attack? Your kid hit by a truck, unconscious, and in their golden hour? Your spouse having a stroke? %$&k that!! I'm getting PAID!!"
Ultimately it is the fire vehicles responsibility to ensure that intersection is CLEAR before proceeding on a red light. Yes it is the cars responsibility to yield to the emergency vehicle but the car had a green light so it is the emergency vehicles responsibility to clear that intersection and then proceed with caution. That SUV going through the light could have clearly seen that dumb ass was not going to stop.
VW is not overtaking it is proceeding through a green light. You can tell me to hand my DL in if you like but I have been driving emergency vehicles for 20 plus years. Same with the second ambulance that almost got hit running the light and just assuming everyone will stop for it, not exactly how it works
@@foothills1008 your obviously watching a different video because the one I seen the firetuck was in the intersection with vehicles stopped like I have already said white VW fully at fault for proceeding your a absolute blind

Damn lady just kept running across…
I was taught two different ways for situations like this. First, when going through drivers ed, instructor said if you ever encounter an emergency vehicle, always assume there is two. The second was when I was in the police academy. Instructors always said the general public always assumes there’s only one emergency vehicle responding, make yourself loud and visible at intersections and make sure all lanes are stopped before proceeding.
None of these 3 emergency vehicles stopped at the RED LIGHT at the intersection. They should have stopped, then proceeded only when it was safe to do so.
You’re blind. EMS 9 slowed down to make sure the intersection is clear you can see another car stop to allow EMS 9 to proceeded if the SUV was paying attention they would have seen and heard EMS 9 and would have thought “hmm why is the car in the next lane over stopping if we have the green? maybe I should slow down and/or stop” most emergency agencies aren’t required to come to a full stop at intersections they proceeded with due regard and that love tap and kinda stop was enough due regard don’t make excuses for bad drivers
@@Daniel-xt2mw In ohio that was entirely on ems 9. You're asking permission to enter a red light here, you get into an accident like this, it is your fault.
@@lawoftheland5923 that’s Ohio bud. California law and quite a few other states puts the driver in the wrong. And again it’s easy to pay attention to your surroundings as I stated you see another car stop at a green light that’s should have caught their attention. According to California Vehicle Code (CVC) 21055, emergency vehicles, including police cars, fire trucks, ambulances, etc., are exempt from following the traffic laws while responding to and during emergencies as long as they have their red lights and sirens on.
@@Daniel-xt2mw I didn't say it was illegal there. I mean I am not even going to get started on California... its a hellscape. This would have been the FD's fault all day anywhere else
@@Daniel-xt2mw Traffic law exemption does not mean exempt from responding with due regard. Causing an accident while responding is still causing an accident. Whether or not the other driver was paying attention or not, intersections in all of the lower 48, lights and sirens means they are requesting permission to enter the intersection. Being hit by a car travelling through their green light is not their fault.
Sorry but contrary to popular belief, you are in fact responsible for everything that happens while driving emergent. At the very least my agency would have disciplined that driver and ohio law would have found him at fault as FD had the red light. Then again, we don't need 50 cars and 3 hours to chase suspects here. 3 deputies to a shift.

"Fuck it I do what I want"
*Well these are the

Lights and sirens = asking permission to proceed through intersection.
2nd hot take; They really need to allow/give emergency vehicles WAY better emergency light patterns. The pattern EMS9 used was awful and it could also have been a bit different had the lighting pattern been more consistent, I'm not blaming it on EMS9, I'm just saying LAFD/City/State/Whoever needs to actually allow emergency crews to use good lighting and patterns, even more lighting.
Yup, some side-lighting way up front on a push bumper or license plate bracket would help too. Or high beam flashers! The side light over the front wheel well is too far back when you’re sticking the nose of your vehicle into a lane. And the hideaway LEDs in the parking light are DIM…
@@ColoradoSailing What are high bream flashers going to do from the side then? literally contradicting yourself.
@@brotakig1531 high beams on most passenger vehicles have a pretty wide dispersion angle.
RA 71 enters the intersection and slows to a stop on the red light. The white VW then stops, as EMS 9 enters the intersection from the opposite travel direction and slows its travel, allowing RA 71 to proceed through, then EMS 9 continues through the intersection. The operator of the VW was obviously fixated on the travel of RA 71 and then continued through the intersection on the green light, not realizing EMS 9 was proceeding through the intersection as well. The vehicle code states that private vehicles are to yield the right of way to emergency vehicles when operating with red light & siren active. The VW will be cited for failure to yield. Clearly a case of DWHUA !
As much as I believe the VW is at fault here, cops in California typically do not cite drivers in accidents unless if they witness it themselves because of the fact if they cite the driver then they would have to testify.
@@B345T1N355Official It's always been a 'sort through insurance' affair as long as I remember in California. As close to 'tickets' as they get are accident reports listing the driver the officer figures is most likely the cause at the top.
@@culcune Yeah, police reports everywhere tend to put the first party as the at fault party even though this isn’t always the case
The vw never stopped it was another white vehicle possibly an accord that stopped. First responders entered on a red without clearing the intersection. They were all at fault
Everyone here would have kept going on that green once the ambulance passed. Every. Single. One of us.
Not only this is the fault of the car but also the fault of the city, if the intersection had a warning light on the traffic light of an approaching fire truck.
Not the city’s fault by any means
Which car? The EMS driver should've had some more due regard. When the other white car stopped in the intersection he should've recognized that as (what seems likely to be) a vision block, and proceeded in a safer manner. Either way regardless of the other car, he didn't really fully clear that intersection. It's really only illegal if you're right in front of an emergency vehicle and you don't pull over, but when you're approaching an intersection, and possibly have music on, and you have a green light so you're going the speed limit, you're not really in the legal wrong. You might be in the moral wrong, but not fault. I will say though, opticoms are very useful.
@@OregonFireBuffhe’s referring to the VW. But if we are talking about responsibility, EMS 9 takes most of it because he was allegedly looking at his computer while moving, only looking up at the road after the collision occurred.

Great example of why situational awareness is so important. When the EMS car saw the first white car yield, they proceeded without checking the next lane for a faster or lower vehicle. The second white car didn't use appropriate caution upon hearing sirens & seeing the first white car to their left stop in the intersection suddenly. Running red (emergency driving) is very dangerous. Few of us have not been involved in collisions at some point, whether in rural nowhere or big city traffic. Frankly, rural crashes are often much worse & help is often much farther away.

I live in Canada in the Province of Ontario and all vehicles are required, by law, to pull to the right and stop for approaching or following emergency vehicles with their red lights flashing. Emergency vehicles usually yield and slow down at intersections as this fire vehicle did but may still be liable if they hit another vehicle in the intersection that had a green light and may have been distracted. Regardless, the non-emergency vehicle, in this province still was required to yield. I wonder how this will play out in California.
I don't think it's the guys fault. He clearly yielded to the ambulance and continued on. How can anyone expect another ems driver coming the other direction at the same place at the same time?
I agree with the citizens not paying attention thing but the close call with the second ambulance is something else. He totally blew a red light and almost hit the BMW. Is coming to a stop at an intersection and making sure it’s clear so hard to do before proceeding through? They would have been totally at fault if they would have hit them. Yes traffic is scary and people reactions you can’t predict but I was amazed that they blew the light right after the supervisor crashed.

That's sad. The fire fighters are off to save somebody's life and an idiot takes them out.
Very well said.
That ambulance was about to hit too😮
I have informed my family that I prefer to be taken to the hospital in a private car. Riding in an ambulance is NOT SAFE. If ambulance drivers insist on driving thru red lights, then I ain't gonna ride. I will have my stroke or heart attack at home, thank you very much. This may not seem very sensible, but it is how I feel about it.
I think most ambulance crashes actually occur during the initial response to the scene. The goal is to get to the scene as fast as possible since there is no way to really know the urgency of the situation. But for stuff like vehicle crashes, it may take the FD half an hour to extract somebody, so there really was no need for the ambulance to drive like maniacs to the scene and then stand around for a half hour doing nothing. Let the FD stabilize the patient and the ambulance can respond in a more careful manner.
Wow.
Oh no i think the bumper is now gone and did u called 911 and police department showed up too

@@Comeon-no6jo he clearly did slow down and CLEARLY cleared the intersection, 100% the Vws fault.
Nah this is on the EMS supervisor driver. It's on responders to know that multiple emergency vehicles from multiple directions requires extreme caution from them proceeding on a RED. If the ambulance needs to stop, then STOP.
Emergency vehicles have the obligation to clear the intersection
where do these people get their driver training and licenses from? amazon?
EMS captain came to the intersection and yielded correctly. The Rescue absolutely ripped it through the red light without hesitation whatsoever….
What a shame. I hope that woman sees and gets consequences for what she’s done to that awesome EMS unit. Unfortunately, a sad loss 😞😔
Fr:(
Even though she may have not heard it, she still isn't legally in the wrong. You can't just barge through an intersection without looking. Due regard.
In ohio that was entirely on ems 9. You're asking permission to enter a red light here, you get into an accident like this, it is your fault.
That is a crazy crash I hope everyone was okay.
Oh no! Not the battalion chief 🤦♀️
EMS wanted a new ride
Especially considering before this, they literally not that long ago got the car back after a different TC months prior.
This happy to south metro fire rescue battalion five involved traffic collisions I hopefully be careful
In the UK the emergency driver would be at fault for this incident and as a UK emergency enthusiast I agree with that! It's important our highly trained drivers are held to that high standard of safety. We call being allowed to drive on lights and sirens in the UK as "having exemption options" aka you are allowed to utilise exemptions from normal road rules like going through red lights but if you do it is entirely because you deem it safe to do so in the moment.
Moving through a red light at an intersection it is your job as the emergency driver to do it safely and give way to those who have green lights if needed. Once traffic safely yields to you, then you can proceed.
This crash seemed like an unfortunate combination of a few things included the white VW's blocked view and the confusion of multiple EMS coming from different directions. That said, the learning is definitely that EMS needed to slow way down and really creep across the junction. EMS 9 did slow, but could have gone slower. And I felt the ambulances really did not slow down enough as all, maybe they had the green light at that point but still. They flew by.
Emergency vehicles need to stop and make sure they can proceed safely. Even with lights emergency vehicles need to proceed cautiously.
omg this is insane!

City life is fun. Thousands of calls for service for fire and EMS each day, probably about one percent are actual emergencies. People become completely numb to lights and sirens. It’s background noise to them. Another largely un-thought-about consequence of rampant abuse of emergency services.
Sad the idiot in car clearly was entitled and thought he does not have to yield to emergency vehicles Obviosly he thought he was better that eveyone. You can clearly see the lights and hear siren
I can definitely.
0:21 The impact of the accident, hope everyone involved is okay, people in Los Angeles don't know how to drive, SMH
Thankfully there were no physical injuries
Man that is just unfortunate.
71 (spare), and 92 almost got hit like EMS 9 did. But 92 was really close to getting hit by another car. some people don't give a dam about stopping for FD & EMS now
That car is at fault.
Stop bootlicking its EMS9's fault for not practicing due regard
People have no respect for lights & sirens

@@lawoftheland5923 why tf is u talking about ohio like people give a damn about that state what does LAFD have to do with ohio?
@@WaltEffect Because due regard laws are almost universal. And as a Cali paramedic said below the same one here is the one in Cali.
Why tf are you too slow to understand that by saying I understand Ohio law I’m probing to see what someone says about Cali law.
Stick to watching firefighter responding videos.
@@WaltEffect Calm down kid. Some of us do actual public service. I’d ticket the hell out of EMS9 here in Ohio. The insurance companies and the agency would get my findings. And he would likely get my ticket. Insurance for the white car would win. And he would be disciplined or fired. That’s how we do reckless response here.
Cali guy below me said that’s how it is handled there too. That’s called conversation. You should try it sometime instead of being angry that your entire knowledge of emergency response comes from the internet and video games.
@@lawoftheland5923 at least i have common sense to know that the white car was at fault for crossing a street full of emergency cars thats like saying i walked in front of a fire truck because i didn't want them to go through stfu and go read the dmv book if u cant understand simple things it says stop for emergency and look both ways before preceding into a intersection.
My Dad 35 yrs with LA COUNTY FIRE DEPARTMENT Paramedic 4 yrs as a Paramedic trainer
Clearly the driver was the guilty one, they're supposed to YIELD when sirens are heard.
You don’t see the everyday
+ Looks like idiocy gets to people during that intersection. RA71, RA92 almost got hit, used MAJOR Airhorn.
And obviously EMS9 got hit. 😢
RA92 blew a red at nearly full speed and got lucky the city didn't have to cut a big check.
@@kenkoller478Yup. This video basically just shows wanton disregard for the vehicle code sections on driving code 3 and training standards and for the safety of the city’s citizens.
That right there is why FD's all around my area in Texas have started getting their station chief vehicles equipped with push bars and even wrap arounds...they dont need to pit anyone, they just want to be able to save money when that cheap plastic crap falls to pieces from a gentle tap.
Amazing video! You have a new subscriber
Thanks for watching
When EMS-9 passed through the intersection the light was red. The white vehicle was moving on a green light. Hence, it appears that EMS-9 went through a red light despite having his lights and siren on.
and your point? Emergency vehicles allowed to go through red lights
Looks more like the white car failed to yield for the lights and sirens! the EMS vehicle slowed to see the intersection was clear, other vehicles stopped, but the VW with Texas plates continued through.
Yeah, also I think the Honda going the same way as them saw the EMS vehicle so the VW should have been able to see it and slow down.
