When Indians were brought to various parts of Africa as labourers, they brought their food. They weren’t given time to eat so Indians removed the soft bread from the crusted bread and filled it will curry. That’s how it developed and the same way food was eaten by other diaspora Indians in the West Indies and Fiji. It’s not a Durban product. It’s amazing to see Indian food popular all over the world. But you see the hypocrisy when people from other parts of the world embrace Indian food and then try passing it off as a new dish from another country. In California we have sushi and know it’s from Japan and no one passes it off as American food.
But bunny chow is not their in india. It is innovation of indian in south africa who used bread with curries. In india this type of bread is not popular with curries.
In Kolkata, India in Dacres Lane (BBD Bagh financial district) at lunch time a very popular dish in the small roadside eateries is a bowl of mutton (goat) curry with just two very thick slices of white bread (sometimes toasted). Or Indian style chicken stew (cooked with onions, potatoes and whole garam masala only) with the same white bread. Frequented by the hordes of office clerks and law office workers. Very tasty. 🙂
Bunny chow does not exist in India.
It definitely is a South African invention as I've not seen it commonly elsewhere.
@@mth469It exists in evert diaspora Indian community abroad.
@@mth469 It's Indian food. Eating sushi from a fork doesn't make it a new food item. What nonsense.

Bunny chow was originally started by the Indians for the people because local black people weren't allowed in the restaurants.... FYI it was an Indian shop
@@shubhamtingre7891 thanks for the information..
But what? Black people aren't allowed in Africa itself why?
Apartheid - the biggest, stupidest mistake ever made by South Africa back in the 40's

Man I hate an underproduced show...Here's a guy who's like 'ok...ok....WAIT, I'm going to put a carrot in my salad!' type of opinion...Man...spoon-feed the masses I guess, but at least have some dignity for those who are actually watching to see how you enjoy the authentic food; don't be 'amazed' at general making of food omg...
