Alex English didn't get a lot of exposure because he played in Denver. The Lakers and Celtics got most of the pub back in the early 80's. Then it was the Bulls and Pistons on TV. But when the All-star games were played, you would see Alex. I loved his game. Nothing fancy. You knew what he was gonna do. But you couldn't stop him when he was clicking. Nobody could.
Slam Magazine suggested Alex English was one of those players who should have been on the 50 greatest NBA players of all time. Remember the list came out in 1996. The other suggestion who should of not been left out was Dominque Wilkins. The knock on Wilkins though, was he would never pass the ball.
Really, who's better, Alex or Nique'? Very close, I would say. Maybe put Dantley in there, too. Bird and King best of the 80's. Then ....Alex was more well rounded than Nique, IMO.
That list was bullsh*t. Worthy was on it, although he would have been nothing without Magic, but English, Bernard King & Dominique weren’t. Yet Shaq, who at that point hadn’t done anything, Scottie Pippen and Bill Walton, who had one great season, were listed. It was politics and NBC’s favorites
the bad thing with these great superstars like english, bernard king, gervin, dantley.world b free even wilkins...is that they play in the era of magic-bird,drj,kareem moses and then hakeem,mj...and they don't take the charge they should!if durant, melo or even leberon had the same performance in playoff game today, everybody would talk for a year but back then...
In another words, someone's always gonna get overshadowed. Think of the 70's, with Havlicek, Erving, Barry, McAdoo, Hayes. Bobby Dandridge was a key on 2 champions (Mil and Wash), often an all star, consistently in the 18-22 ppg range. Solid on D, could pass, too. HOFer resume, talent and production, IMO. Much more so than some who have recently gotten in.
Damani Carew totally agree with you on that my dude💯💯💯💯even their SHOOTING form is similar, only real differences is KDS handles are far superior and hes much taller & longer than English!
I can't believe I'd never heard of Alex English. I was just looking at some old stats and he kept popping up so I thought, "I have to check this guy out." Don't think I've seen anyone so smooth. He makes it look so easy it's almost boring to watch. haha
And you gotta remember that this is the 85 Lakers. It's the Showtime Era and look how English dominated them. That wasn't the only great team back then he used to score like that against. He was nice.
If a future nuggets star could have learned to play like English he would have been unstoppable and his team would have a championship or 2(talking about Melo)
ALEX ENGLISH gets no credit for being one of the greatest players in the history of the NBA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Young people are extremely stupid in today's world !!!!!!!!!!!!
IMHO the NBA is still in the fallout shadow of Michael Jordan. The stars today are pumped up super-human athletes; extreme, almost cartoonish Jordan emulators. The game has become obsessed with one type of player and will push it to the extreme, like a morbid experiment. I have no problems with Kevin Durant or LeBron James, they are good players, but I have a suspicion that many great players have been pushed aside because they don't fit in with the current trends.
Lmao how are Bron and James a "sad state," LeBron is the most complete player in NBA history, and KD is the most skilled scorer the league has ever seen

Hard to time his shot because he didn't stop moving when he shot it. Runners and leaners and one-handers. He had amazing touch
Alex English is so underrated.
Alex English was unstoppable in his era.

So strange to see the style of play. The quick herky jerky motion almost looks like silent films from the 1920s. Also, players are so thin.

Much more so than some who have recently gotten in.
Alex English is the 80’s version of Kevin Durant. A smooth scorer. 👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿

Oh yeah & 3pt SHOOTING range is better with KD, they are both MIDRANGE kings!

Alex just gets a quiet 30 or 40 points. Great touch!!!

Curry would feast in the 3 in that era. They were all in the paint lol
You could hand check back then and they didn't call ticky tack fouls so he would get mugged
If this team was playing today they would get to finals
Bad take
AE the best nuggets player ever!!!!!!!!

Dan Issel was still playing at this point? wow
Been researching issel as of late.
Deserves more credit.
Played and produced greatly in 2 leagues!
Truly underrated!
The smooth killer Alex English
Same game that Natt went down Phil?
I checked out the boxscores and i realized that English did not play in game 5. Would you happen to now why?
Broken thumb

2023 monster in rocky mountains eat lakers 4-0.. Joker Nuggets 💪🏆
Denver nuggets play basketball in 80s like now nba teams no defence
Like look at the sad state of the NBA today. You got guys like KD and James at the top. I think Kobe is legit though.

Watching the Nuggets move that ball was almost like watching the Harlem Globetrotters. That thing never stopped moving
