Is the new BMW F900GS a bike to be excited about?

- The new BMW F900GS (and the adventure version) is here. A bike that looks really cool and perhaps the extra CCs over the ‘middleweight’ bikes like the T7 and Tuareg 660 can make it a proper do-it-all adventure bike?

This new GS looks freaking amazing!!! 😍
Thank you for the video my friend! 😁👍
Only BMW bike I’ve ever found desirable, they’ve never really been to my taste. This one has really caught my attention though, I’m going test ride one asap & might trade my CRF1100.
i love it, looks great exactly what i would like to have
Just a small correction, Ryan did not buy the Desert X, the company bought it and he can borrow it when he needs to. He said so himself in an interview/podcast and stated that it was a great bike but he would never pay that much for a bike especially when including the service costs.
You are very much correct sir, I actually knew that as I’m a huge HS/LS fan myself 😁
@@JohannesDalen It's a great show ^^ And to be fair Ryan also mentioned that although he would not buy it personally bc of the price he still believes it's the best balanced adv bike on the market so your reference is correct. Just a tidbit i guess ^^
Dose anyone know if he brought a T7, or what his current own ADV bike is?
@@JohnSmith-ef8nrapparently he buys old bikes so that he can have several “bikes of character” in his garage, and doesn’t need a new bike as he mostly rides the fort nine one.
Absolutely love just got 1
Super excited to take it for a demo ride at my local BMW Motorrad dealership
BMW will always be close to my hearth since it was my first bike. It also was a F800 GS so that means this new F900 GS caught my attention right of the bat! I really like the "aggressive" look at the back. I also like the looks of the (standard?) Akrapovic exhaust, no need to change for an aftermarket there in my opinion. I cannot lie, the thought has struck my mind "maybe I should change my 701 for this"...
They nailed the styling. Love the naked rear with the Akrapovic exhaust.
In terms of 701 vs this one, apples to oranges so depends on you’re willing to sacrifice weight for an increase in road comfort. I can imagine this new 900 being a ripper on the road as well!
It looks good. I like what I have seen this far quite a bit. It looks like it might be reasonably priced as well. I’m intrigued. I trust BMW reliability so much more than most of these other brands too.
I really like the new look, more leaner and aggressive. They've corrected the mistake of the older model by now having adjustable front suspension. However I think BMW has to get the fuel weight sitting lower in the frame, sure it's lost weight but am sure its center of gravity will still be too high. More HP, but the tourque number is very similar to the old model.
Actually wanted to upgrade from the original 800GS to the big 1250 or 1300. but this one looks much much better.
very interesting Johannes :) it's great to see more bikes entering the segment more choice is always brilliant I think, One day I'd love to see BM' do a stripped back bike tech wise like my 1150GSA which everything went wrong with I was very happy that it was the more basic bike as it cost £2,700 in parts to fix I wouldn't have liked to have seen the cost on the water cooled I had for the same issues.
Oh absolutely, a 190kg GS with the great boxer engine and nothing more than ABS. Would probably buy one myself 😁
@@JohannesDalen that's the dream right there! 😄
love it or hate it, proves its a great time to be into adv bikes 😎
Sure is. Imagine when the battery technology improves so much that we get electric adv bikes too!
If I could only ever have one bike, I think I’d likely buy the desert X. It’s a great handling, fast road bike, and is capable, comfortable and confidence inspiring off road……and it’s the best looking bike out there.
I like how the good guys in the bike review field don’t mind mentioning each other, as you have with motobob Everide and F9, and if you don’t mind, I’d add “Big Rock Moto”, for really indepth reviews. I’d mention you on their channels too 😃👍
I think most folk buying a bike will check as many reviews as they can find, so it’s almost as if everyone improves everyone’s ratings together, and they compliment each other.
The BMW does look good, and I’m sure we can be in no doubt that they are gonna come back hard against the latest competition, in order to keep the mid size, and “1250” at the top of the pile. Sure the 1300 and 1400 are gone blow our socks off 😃👍
I was thinking the same , remove the rear plastics to show the frame , move the ecu etc under the seat , could look awesome , could even cut the front side panels to look similar too
I will look into doing that this winter, if the subframe was a bolt on one could even paint it in a different color.
@@JohannesDalen yep , it’s a shame the subframe isn’t separate . I think I’ll get another black under the seat mudguard to cut up , so all the originals can go back on if it ever gets sold . I may even start moving the electrics soon , cos that looks easy enough , I ride mine 6days a week , so must always be ready for action . Please do a video if you do , cheers fella
I'll stick with the t7,it may not be the most powerful or the lightest, but it will get you where you wanna go and back, for years,
Eneste direkte konkurrent blir vel kanskje typ AJP PR7.
Great work as always Johannes. The BMW? From where I’m standing right now, interesting…but still too heavy. New ADV bikes will start to get my attention when they weigh 180kg wet.
Thanks Kym!
I agree, still on the heavy side, but BMW has probably done their research beforehand and knows perfectly well that most adventure bikes sees road and highway first, and dirt second. A 180kg ultralight adventure bike and people will complain about it being affected by the wind on the highway..😅
Problem with Ducati desert X is that it is a G-wagon motorcycle …. You can go off-road but you don’t want to 😅
Its a bike I am truly interested in, and may end up ordering as soon as its possible 😇
You know you have my full support, my friend 😉
The T7 has really started a trend
Sure has, accurate comment. It is now the benchmark for all "middleweight" adventure bikes.
I'm not against electronics or saying they don't work, but I'd love if all these new adv bikes, including this F900GS, would come in a "T7-trim". With only the mandatory ABS and nothing more, at a serious price reduction.
Not saying they are perfect by any means but when I was looking at any others I kept coming back to simplicity reliability and plenty of dealership. So for me, peace of mind and being able to enjoy the adventure with very little concerns won me over.
Thanks for the content enjoy your videos in Aus🇦🇺
That is the same reason I too own a T7. Thanks a lot for watching from the land down under 🤗
snygg är den❤
We have to ride it. The specs alone aren't that amazing, I think.
On paper my 2011 R 1200 GS weight is 229Kg. Has 20L of fuel. With a Lithium Battery and Akro silencer it could be near the F900 GS? What happened to recent GS weights.?
It became too big, too powerful, too expensive and too tech heavy. An amazing bike, but I think the 1200 was perfect.
An original Honda Fireblade 900RR was 185kg dry...the benchmark ,even today...things,like humans have got heavier in the last 32yrs!
It looks really good, but that 14,5L fuel tank is tiny. I really wouldn't want less than the 16L on my T7.
The small fuel tank kind of narrows its usage to daily offroad trips. For the bike to make sense at that it really has to shine at the offroad side, in my opinion. I guess it's only a matter of time before the aftermarket has a 20L tank for it though. The adventure version has a 24L if I recall correctly, but also weighs a lot more. I'd buy the base version and add a bigger plastic tank if I went with the F900GS.
Even the old 800GS could go down to 3.5l/100km on the open road so I expect 900GS will have a longer range than T7.
@@MaZ-tg7ch that will never happen, T7 is very fuel efficent already
@gbner9991 I own one :). Yes it's good but BMW bikes are in different league. Even my old 1150GS, 300kg with luggage, could do 5l/100km and it was 20 years ago. My biggest range limiter on T7 is the seat 😂
@@MaZ-tg7ch just get the rally seat, if you deal with 2cm height more or less. complete game changer. My T7 fuel consumption is about 4-4,5L.
Its (219kg/14,5L tank 90% full) as havy as an africa twin 1100 (226kg / 18,8L tank 100% full)... needs a 13,1 : 1 to get less power then the 10,1 : 1 compression Honda...which hase more power and torge in hte low revs... the africa twin hase a atni squat suspensiongeometry... which indicates a good base, when improved with good suspension from aftermarket. While the bmw will have hopefully a top suspension from the start (not base model).
So i think as long you upgrade the suspension. The afrikatwin is the better bike, even used. Becose its reliable... the bmw with its chinise engine will have to prove that first...
Funny how the so called mid capacity bikes seem to be increasing in capacity, will the 2025 version be a 1000cc and the new 1300 be a 1350 or 1400 ?
Will the 890 KTM be a 990 soon ? Oh wait they already had one of those.
Another new bike on the market that is so much better than the old model that was so much better than the old model and so on and so on.
Just more electronics to ruin your day. 😂😂😂😂
Just as a bit of trivia, I just finished my 2 month 12500 klm European odyssey, DR 650 zero issues, electronics, 1 phone kaput, 2 cameras kaput, 1 power bank kaput, 1 watch kaput, oh how I love the electronics age. 🤪
Tech isn't going to go anywhere, so it's more a question of which bike has the least amount of tech that can fail? 😅
As I responded to another guy, would love if all new models could come in a "T7 trim" with only ABS and at a much lower price point.
I was going to ask about your trip, I understand it was a huge success? Happy to hear you're bike was faithful my friend! Loved the pics you share on FB.
yay, you're back, lol. I still skip over your vids since you changed the channel name, on accident (or by accident) of course. Still trying to get used to the new name. well, old name, new channel name.
The F900 is far too heavy for the middle weight ADV class.
The problem with BMW is that ALL parts and things er to expensive, i don't want a bike that even a air filter cost 100 dollars it's like Apple!
So when i looking for a new bike i don't even bother to look on a BMW!
I could buy 2 of those without any problem but it is a prinsip for me anyway not to buy a overprized bike and its parts!
The less stylish Ducati Desert X.
Whoever was in charge of that new headlight design should have their eyebrows shaved (same for the Transalp headlight designer)
I don't know how to put this, but I kinda like it. If you want to come here and shave my eyebrows, you are very much welcome ;)
@@JohannesDalen I would if you weren't bigger and stronger than me 😅
I like it 2😊
Not for long, yesterday I did something crazy and cancelled my gym membership. I want to see if working out at home can be as efficient through this winter 😅
Sadly this promising bike houses a Chinese made engine, for 15k € I'd expect something different.
Engine made in China ..
So is your smartphone 😉
