Well done Johannes. You not only captured wonderful images beautifully, but summarized the essence of this bike. The R1250GS cannot be defined by a spec sheet, a weigh scale, a dynamometer, a photograph, or any combination of empirical measures. You need to ride it and live with it to truly appreciate it subjectively.

It’s a BMW so it has heritage and history. It has plenty enough power and is very capable off road on most conditions. It very comfortable on cross country road trips. It has plenty of accessories from the factory and endless aftermarket support. It’s sexy and looks way better than any other adventure bike out there. Its positives greatly outweigh the few negatives which are weight and price. It has a following like most no other bike, only rivaled by Harley Davidson. These reasons are why it’s so popular.

If the T7 were not so top heavy, it may well be near perfect for people who want a do all bike, without the complexities of electronics. It's only flaw is weight up high, and tall seat for a lot of riders, too.

Great video!. I've owned one for the past 3 years, to me it is the absolute best tourer and awesome for easy gravel rodes. Slipping the rear wheel with all that torque is awesome! 🤤 But definitely will not be my choice for technical/difficult offroad, at least not at my skill level. I would buy this bike time and time again for MY use. Also, it has been 100% reliable, 0 unexpected issues, just some maintenance to the shaft which does get some rust buildup if left unattended, but I lube it every oil change and is looking great. Highly recommend this bike is use is mostly road and light offroad.

Great video, amazing production values, it's like watching Fortnine, which is a huge compliment. As for the bike, I picked one up last year after having a couple Africa Twins, KTM 890R, and a T7. I opened both the T7 and R1250GSA at the same time, and sold the T7. The T7 was so top heavy that the GSA was easier to ride in every situation, including harder off-road. If it got to where I didn't want to be on the GSA, I wouldn't have wanted to be on the T7 either and would step down to my Enduro bike or 701. The GSA has been fun, comfortable, capable of getting me down rough rocky trails, long highways and twisty roads. It's the best overall bike I've ever been on.

Whoah Johannes what a brilliant video :) soon as it started I was like epic filming is a go! Brilliant story telling, I've just gone back to the GS in the form of an 1150GSA, I've had the 1200GSA 2014, f800gs (didn't quite get on with it) a 1200GS TE Rallye (had to sell for some money) utterly superb and really moved the game on compared to the 2014.
I've just sold my Honda 300 Rally and gone to the BMW 1150 GSA which has been a dream motorcycle for me after watching long way round as a kid and it was finally the time to do it. I rode it back 3 hours yesterday and it's amazing how beautiful it was to ride :) the aftermarket ohlins are brilliant that's on my factory none ABS 1150 that the previous owner fitted (can actually put my feet down to) I think there's something intangible about the Boxer engine, like a Norton 360 degree twin I just can't quite put my finger on it but it always pulls me back.
I do agree about the tech on bikes now it's amazing but the cost when it goes wrong can be painful, I've experienced that with 2x ktm rejections due to display issues. problems with my first gsa (display again failed first day I had it sorted under warranty) to the point I was concerned about the cost of one outside of warranty so decided to go for the old school 1150! Really raw and visceral. I totally understand the advantage of the tech for different riding situations though but with mainly long distance over landing on tarmac and light gravel the right bike for me was the 1150, I agree it's all about finding the compromise that suits us individually.
I do wish BMW would fire up the plants in Berlin for the 1150 and R80 G/S alot to be said for simple motorcycles or at least the option to be able to buy them :)
Keep the awesome videos up :)
Absolutely love all the Boxer engined GS's I've not had the pleasure of riding the 1250 yet.

I agree that the R1250GS is arguably the best all-around big ADV touring bike, having had a much older model (‘07) many years ago. However, I couldn’t gel with that RGS (or 1190SA) and I don’t know exactly why. I recently tried again with a test ride of a ‘22 R1250GS during the hunt for a more interstate-focused bike for long miles. Unfortunately (or fortunately…), I knew very quickly that the RGS model line had gone in the wrong direction for me and I cut the test short to get off of it. So, even though the big GS is undoubtedly excellent, I still don’t understand why it’s so popular, especially for the price. I really wanted to like it because when it tips over, it never falls all the way down; the handiest feature of the boxer and the one that I have missed a few times since the ‘07! Since I know by now that I’ll never take this size of machine off pavement or graded gravel anymore, the test ride made the decision to trade out my (outstanding) F750GS towards a Versys 1000LT+, with its sweet I-4, easy. Bonus that I can get the Kawasaki serviced just about anywhere from sea to shining sea (and probably within a reasonable period of time).

The question always remains the same, does a bigger heavier more expensive bike make you enjoy your trip more or does it prevent you from being more adventurous ?
It all comes down to your idea of adventure, I wonder how many of the thousands of GS sold get used for the TET for example as opposed to the Autobahn , if you are paying top dollar for an on/ off road bike it should be capable to do both with relative ease.

    Your Yamaha, is very beautiful!
    Excellent video.
The GS thing is a serious case study. It gets better from iteration to iteration. I’m very satisfied with the 1250cc engine. I think that it has the perfect amount of power. And the torque exceeds beyond satisfaction.
The near future, only can bring a better bike in terms of more technology and maybe to it’s looks that probably may have some more appealing style once that it is unchanged for a while now. I am a fan of the actual aesthetic line of the bike like it is today. That’s the reason I bought the rally GSA last week.
I appreciate the bike as it is now.
I don’t need the adaptive cruise control and the blind spot radar.
I tested the Multistrada V4S with those features and it didn’t impressed me like I was expecting to. The bike only awakes up to 4000/4500 revs, until that point it is senseless. It only is enthusiastic when going up over the legal road speed limits. For that, I would prefer to own the BMW S1000 XR.
On gravel and soft off-road trails I still prefer the GS over the Multistrada and almost every competition. The GS is a refined solid and proven jack of all trades. We still haven’t found nothing like it on the Market.
    Very nice video. Thank you!

With respect to owners and fans , I have ridden several and just dont get what people see in them, great for long rides on dirt roads ,and in general a great touring bike but when it gets a bit serious,,way too heavy ,having to pick one up is rediculos,,Im in Australia i ride solo mostly, I have a Desert x , a multistrada enduro and just got a cf moto mt 800, (yes i am a serial bike buyer cause i can) anyway i was very interested in a 1250gs last year but after a couple of rides i just didnt like its weight , and in tight tracks and thru long deep mud, i wasnt impressed.

Sounds like you are into the more offroad side of things, and for that the GS can quickly become a handful, no doubt. You agree the GS is a great tourer and easy dirt road bike, and I think that is what most people use it for.
Nice garage by the way, how are you liking the Desert X?

@@JohannesDalenMC Im not really that hard core off road, but in Oz a dirt road can turn into a muddy river with one storm, also distances from help if your a solo rider can be a long way.. yes the X is amazing, does have a high centre of gravity with a full tank but other than that brilliant, if you own one adventure bike that should be it..

Hey Johaness, I’m gonna bite on your T7 comments, partly because I so desperately want one. But I think this is the best T7 review (ruclips.net/video/RQ5sd-Tm5zk/видео.html) - a pretty experienced off road rider who loves the bike but saying it makes him afraid, and critically, dictates where he can ride. The T7 goes down easier, harder and is more difficult to pick up. And that makes you less independent. I believe the PR7 is the best adventure bike. A real adventure means you’re flexible, and thus don’t need to spend 1000km days on the highway, but when you do get to your destination you’ve got the maximised dirt potential. Why better than the brilliant 690/701s? Cos it’s not competition tuned. And, critically, has a relaxed riding position when you are on the tarmac (or so I’ve been told). A twin would be better and I thinks the KTM 790/890s (not the R as Ian from Big Rock Moto recently explained) nail it (same clearance and suspension travel as the T7) if only they made them without all that pointless tech. And thus, there’s the gap in the market yet to be filled. In summary, the T7 is more likely to kill you, and that’s why it’s not perfect. See if you can convince me (I’d really love one but think I’m heading to the PR7), cheers Clive

      @JohannesDalenMC  Год назад +1

Hey Clive! Are you sure I meant the T7 is the perfect adv bike, or that the one you already own is? 😉
Either way, I do agree with you. It depends on what your intentions with a bike is. Some adv bikes will never see dirt, and for those a PR7 wouldn’t make much sunse, right? But for a do-it-all bike, a PR7/701 beats the T7, I agree.

@@JohannesDalenMC Hi Johaness, ok well said. Just that I so often think that the T7 is perfect - a twin with no tech! But just that one issue puts me off and I want it to not be true. Anyway, looking forward to your van/small bike experiments. Have fun!

Maybe there is - Aprilia Tuareg 660 😊
Heavy enough to be a solid road bike, a very good offroad bike, better suspension than most, better elektronics - i belive it has cruise control and prepared for quickshift. Also its tubeless. Its a new engine but seems to be reliable for all i know. Weight is better distributed due to the tank placement, so not top heavy. Seat height is better than T7 imo. The only thing i can find which sticks out is the price. 20-30% more expensiv than the T7
