Andorra has no standing army but signed treaties with Spain and France for its protection. Its small volunteer army is purely ceremonial in function. The paramilitary GIPA (trained in counter-terrorism and hostage management) is part of the national police. Defense assistance is provided by France and Spain under an informal agreement between the three countries.
Znik In the year 500 AD the number of Slavic population in Balkan Peninsula was ZERO.So it it is the Wild Serb hordes who infected my Land.Europe to Europeans,Ethnic Albania to Albanians.
I've been there a couple of times. And one of my best friends is an Andorra national, born and bred. She speaks perfect French, Spanish and Catalan and fairly good English too!
Just went to Andorra just 2 weeks ago with my school, beautiful little cute country,i also bought a big boy flag because i love its flag so much!!! Love you Andorrans!! MUCH much Love from Spain!! 🇪🇸

Well, the Crown of Aragon doesn't represent Catalonia, it represents Aragon, Catalonia, Valencia, the Roussillon, The Baleares, Sicily, Sardinia, Malta and Naples
The video has a lot of incorrections, the flag colors are taken of the catalan flag and not the spanish, que litle flag is from Catalonia and not of Arahon because it represents the creation of Andorra, that was a treat between Foix and Urgell (catalan flag)
Iceland is not a micronation. 300,000 people on a massive island is not a micronation. The Faroe Islands with their 48,000 people and very small series of mountainous, treeless islands would be a micronation.
Newfoundland and Labrador United Party Actually it's more like 320,000 and I'm not saying it IS a micro state I'm saying "SOME PEOPLE" consider it a micro state. I personally don't.
Geography Now See, if I lived in Iceland and heard a video like this say "some people", I would be angry and I would hunt down these people for an explanation.
Newfoundland and Labrador United Party then you sir, definitely don't live in Iceland. we don't give a shit about whether or not we're a micro nation, we've got outdoor pools all year round
dagur7 No I live in Newfoundland, which was an independent nation, and by the same definition would have been considered a Micronation prior to confederation with Canada in 1949 (awful mistake that was). Newfoundland is about the same size as Iceland and Labrador is a vast area roughly the size of Italy, with 325,000 people all combined at the time, and only 500,000 now. So I do have some say in that Newfoundland and Labrador would not have been a micronation and Iceland would not either. But my desire not to want to be called a Micronation stems from the bad prejudices Canadians have against Newfoundlanders too, so I'm marginally more bitter than an Icelander.
Newfoundland and Labrador United Party I have no idea about those troubles over in Newfoundland but dude, you gotta get over here and jump in a outdoor hot tub with me and just relax those worries away.
Haha, I just came from reading the wikipedia on Andorra and I guess I'm not the only one who finds them absolutely adorable. Having been forgotten in the Versailles treaty after WW1, they technically remained at war with Germany until the fifties when they officially declared peace. Having a military run on a defense budget where it's unusually high if it has 4.90 dollars for one year, a military of only 12 professional permanent personal. Having a system where the bigger problems are to be handled by "able-bodied men" which would happen in case of natural disasters, state of emergencies, crisis, or war. 85,000 population, with 10.2 million annual tourists. This country is so cute!
Joey Tudor es o no verdad que la mitad de los políticos españoles (catalanes incluidos) han estado décadas sacando sus fortunas a Andorra? No pretendo insultar a tú país, ni te estoy insultando a tí.
Andorra is a microstate, not a micronation. Micronations include countries like Sealand which claim to be independent nations but are not officially recognized by world governments or major international organizations (but if they have had wars over independence like Somaliland or Kosovo, they don't count). Also, microstates are based on area, and not population, so Iceland and Cyprus don't count.
Anybody that's from Barcelona has been to Andorra at least 5 times in their life. I have been arround 50 times in all my life. It's a great country to go skiing and then go downtown Andorra la Vella to shop or even go to Caldea and have a nice time at their Spa + Cool swimming pools. And when you go back home, you fill up the gas tank cheaper than in my country and buy alcohol and tobacco again, cheaper.
Okay so I live 50km away from Andorra and 20km away from La Tour de Carol train station (I use the R3 Rodalies from RENFE). -La Tour de Carol is a village on its own. The train that goes there comes from L'Hospitalet de Llobregat (Barcelona) and is the R3 from Rodalies. It's 70km away from La Seu d'Urgell (Spanish entrance to Andorra). -L'Hospitalet-près-l'Andorre is a different village with a different station. The train that stops there comes from somewhere in France (I have no idea from where, but I suppose it comes from Toulouse?). Both villages are 30 minutes apart by train. -Andorra has had an airport since the 80s. It didn't, however, have commercial flights until this year so yes, until now the closest actual airports are Girona's (just realized you didn't put that one), Toulouse's and BCN's. Random fact: You can drive from border to border (north to south) in 2 hours by car. Another random fact that no one will care about: I personally know the co-prince of Andorra and have talked to him several times. It was actually him who did my Confirmation (Christian sacrament) xD

The mention of the co-principality system made me realize that technically the French head of state is still a monarch. Looks like it’s time for yet another revolution…
Greetings from Azerbaijan! Andorra is worth a walk as a country. I hope one day I will be able to see this beautiful country. I also wish Andorra to return to the Eurovision Song Contest soon. We love you! 🇦🇩❤🇦🇿
Catalan is a romance language, full stop. It is not somehow related to Spanish nor French. It just is as it is and evolved parallely from vulgar Latin as Spanish, French, Portuguese, Italian and Romanian did. It was very similar to Occitan, a language once spoken in the southern part of France, but Napoleon only wanted French language in France, so he banned it from school and society and it disappeared.
+brtmn Occitan still exists. In fact, it is one of the three official languages in Catalonia and currently being spoken by thousands of people in France. Even though, in France it is not an official language and the french government doesn't work for the Occitan so in France people will tend to use more French, but in Catalonia the Occitan language it will never disappear.
brtmn almost but I still know a lot of people (especially young people) in Aquitaine, the region of Toulouse and Montpellier and in the Southern Alps who speak Occitan. Btw even if I only speak French and Catalan I can almost totally understand Occitan.
@@brtmn7902 there are still tons of speakers in france they're just really spread out in the population

I moved to Andorra last June and I've gotta say it's the best decision I have ever made! 🚀 I love living in a quiet area away from traffic jams and big buildings, but it only takes a 5-10 minutes drive to find almost anything I need. For anything I can't find "near" me, it just takes 15-20 minutes to get to Andorra La Vella, where there are way more options available. 📚 Also, it's worth mentioning that both corporate and income taxes are below 10% 💵, so moving here gave me the opportunity to buy a property + save/invest for the future + invest in my own business (Andorra Tech Valley) at the same time. In Spain, that wouldn't have been possible... 🤦♂️
Andorra was also the only country to be officially fighting the First and Second World Wars at the same time due to being left off the Treaty of Versailles by mistake!
The first episode I saw, and the one that make me discover your wonderful channel. Keep up the good work man, you have my respect. I'm from perpignan btw, it's like 80km from Andorra border that's why this video get my attention
I'm Andorran and there're some little things I didn't know about my country so thanks for the information. There're also some little mistakes and wrong details about it but not a big deal. It's totally normal. Cheers.
Andorra *is not* a micronation. "Micronation" means you are a self-declared country with no outside diplomatic recognition. Better known examples of this would be Sealand, Seborgia, Hutt River, Westarctica, Molossia, etc. Size is irrelevant. While most "micronations" are in fact, small by coincidence, some have rather sizable territorial claims, e.g. Westarctica.
Right, is a part of the Catalan nation, and is the unique Catalan independent state, due to the coprincipality between France and the Bishop of Urgell.
I think aswell it’s important to mention the relationship between Andorra and Argentina through the ski world. Andorra offers a lot of work to Argentinian seasonal workers and facilitates apartments for them. The Argentinians make up the majority of workers throughout the ski season and because of that there is a load of organisations that are based in the Argentinian-Andorran relationship. Another relationship worthy of a mention is Bolivia. Andorra has this organisation that sends volunteers to help children in need in Bolivia and help economically in various ways. I believe that Andorra is becoming more popular throughout South America for its opportunity and kindness.
Andorra and Germany had a war from 1914 until 1958, because Andorra took part at World War One, but was forgotten in the treaty of Versailles. Those two nations however never fought in that war...
While studying in Spain, we went a couple of times to Andorra. I must say a couple of things about what I saw. The country is BEAUTIFUL. It's literally inside the mountains of the Pyrenees and the landscape is gorgeous. However, the people living there just ruin the latter beauty due to their ego. They are rude and think they're superior to others. For instance, something I noticed is they don't stop when they see that there's someone crossing the street. Moreover, when you enter in a shop, they don't smile at you nor greet you. Besides, for them, even if they speak Catalan, they don't call their language as so. They call it "Andorran" just to piss the Catalans out. So, yeah. Anyways, I'm not trying to offend anyone, but please, dear citizens of Andorra, have some sympathy towards others from time to time. Smile and be nice! Thank you. And Georgraphy Now: You are fucking awesome! Keep up the GREAT work!
nanioushka You haven't really met Andorran people yet. They're like besties with Catalonians, and they are very nice, although they're friends with Catalonians (who HATE Spaniards) (Catalonia to us is another country), they are great with Spaniards. I've been to Andorra SO manyu times since I was a child, don't even try to fight me in this.
Carmen Mas Franco The OP gave their opinion as an OUTSIDER how they treat foreigners- in my opinion very convincing in stating their case. You as an Andorran or as a Catalan who speaks the language have absolutely no authority about saying how you treat (or are treated if you speak the same language) non-Catalan speakers. Compared to most of the world Europeans- the French and Spanish among the worst- are extremely ignorant and arrogant, especially in the service industry. This can be quite a shock to people like the Americans where people are very friendly and in the service industry live off tips and are therefore extremely attentive to customers.
Manif Ormiston No, you can say what the OP said- you can go to America, have people be rude to you, receive poor service and then plead with them to 'have some sympathy for others' as the OP did. Functional literacy is an important thing in life.
TheSpiritOfTheTimes Thanks for those replies. Look people, I explained what I lived every time I went there in a period of 2 years. Every time we had vacation in Barcelona, we were going to Andorra and that is what I lived there. FYI, I'm a Canadian. If I had read a critique over my country, I wouldn't go apewall on the OP, but rather apologize for their misfortune and hopefully wish them to not be discouraged over the latter and enjoy Canada next time they'll visit. Be kind to one another and take criticism maturely.
Hahaha 😂 The advertisment right before the video was saying something like "Do you wanna have a baby? Then it's time to prepare your body... blabla" and then I could skip it. And then he says "Spain and France kind of had a baby" ... 😂 ... Not funny? Alright ... still ... haha 😂😂
I've been to Andorra this year and I actually never thought one day I'd go there when I first watched this video. I got there from Barcelona and I must say it's a very beautiful country, I was there for one day so it was very good, not boring at all. Though, it may get boring to live there after a while so I'm pretty sure every Andorran goes abroad from time to time. Still, it was so enjoyable to be there. Because of its tax haven status, alcohol is so cheap compared to other countries, I bought Finlandia Vodka 1L for just €8, I also found a smartphone case I was looking forward to getting in Hiper Andorra that I couldn't find anywhere where I live. You can get many things for cheaper in Andorra but clothes are not one of them, there's no difference there so don't buy clothes when you're there. You can buy perfumes, though.

Andorra, while not being part of the European Union is in a customs union with the EU. This means that Andorrans can freely move within the EU and citizens of EU can freely move to Andorra.
Cyprus and Iceland are not micronations. Micronation does not necesseraly mean just small state. It also refers to the special status a micronation has. For example Liechtenstein, San Marino, Vatican , Monaco and Andorra

This is absolutely my new favorite youtube channel.
Andorra♡♡♡
amo ela muito
nem acredito que finalmente encontrei um video explicando sobre ela
thank you
I'm french and you're really great for explaining with many details storys of countrys 😆👍
+Chito Ganchito it still exists in Catalonia but it has almost disappeared in France.
brtmn almost but I still know a lot of people (especially young people) in Aquitaine, the region of Toulouse and Montpellier and in the Southern Alps who speak Occitan. Btw even if I only speak French and Catalan I can almost totally understand Occitan.
I believe Aranese is related to Occitan. It's spoken in the Aran valley which is in northwest Catalonia.
@@brtmn7902 there are still tons of speakers in france they're just really spread out in the population
I moved to Andorra last June and I've gotta say it's the best decision I have ever made! 🚀
I love living in a quiet area away from traffic jams and big buildings, but it only takes a 5-10 minutes drive to find almost anything I need. For anything I can't find "near" me, it just takes 15-20 minutes to get to Andorra La Vella, where there are way more options available. 📚
Also, it's worth mentioning that both corporate and income taxes are below 10% 💵, so moving here gave me the opportunity to buy a property + save/invest for the future + invest in my own business (Andorra Tech Valley) at the same time. In Spain, that wouldn't have been possible... 🤦♂️
Andorra is a Good country, Greetings from the Uk! 🇬🇧👍🇦🇩
The uk is going to end soon🏴🇮🇪🏴🏴(and Cornwall)
Bro :/
I was tryna be nice, no need for that at all.
In Spain Andorra is known as the country where youtubers go so they pay less taxes
IVE been to Andorra to ski it’s the most beautiful country I’ve seen
From France you can enter Andorra without using the Tunnel, there is a great road that goes up to the mountain pass and down to Soldeu
Andorra was also the only country to be officially fighting the First and Second World Wars at the same time due to being left off the Treaty of Versailles by mistake!
It is quite a big lesson regarding the petite Andorra... Bravo!
Iceland, micro? Dude, haha, Iceland is not small, only it's population.
A micronation is not a small nation, it's micro in that not many countries recognise its legitimacy
NebulaGFx Haha that is so wrong mate. Every nation in the world recognise Iceland as a soverign state.
FrasierCraft well thats just what he said in the video,
NebulaGFx Ye I know man, but if you check up the list of micronations, Iceland is not there.
FrasierCraft but thats what hghe sid in the video, not me
The first episode I saw, and the one that make me discover your wonderful channel. Keep up the good work man, you have my respect. I'm from perpignan btw, it's like 80km from Andorra border that's why this video get my attention
Imagine if he was your geography teacher.
I'm Andorran and there're some little things I didn't know about my country so thanks for the information. There're also some little mistakes and wrong details about it but not a big deal. It's totally normal. Cheers.
I saw green at 0:14
Here I'll edit your intro script. Once upon a time Spain and France had a baby and grew up to become one of the most
Andorra-bale HAHAHA
Lol.
You already start that wrong. When Andorra became kind-of-a state (1278) Spain didn't even exist.
+DallasHammster I think he meant to say microstate, which would've been the correct term to use.
+Doommagic Yes that is what he meant.
His little mistake
Yeah that is true. I am from Andorra and when I go skiing there lots of Argentinian instructors!
Nice, I didn't know that! Well, the more you know!
Great job!! Hoping for more! Really interesting!
Cyprus and Iceland are not micronations, who the hell thinks they are?
***** Tru
Correct, that was a weird mistake
that was a really weird mistake

Thanks dude! Share the channel if you want! haha
Rule number one don't sort people and blame mass for politics.
nanioushka You haven't really met Andorran people yet.
...
Not funny? Alright ... still ... haha 😂😂
Sy-priss
Sighpriss
As an Andorran you shoul do an update!!! LOVE your work
@@prolifelatterdaysaint0000 We live with animals like everyone else, there are wild animals, domestic animals and humans.

I love Andorra...best micronation ever.
Been to Andorra
'France and Spain kind of had a baby' sound like some countryhumans fanfic
Nice video, I'm subscribing now. Anyway it was fun to see your frenchy pronounciation of La seu d'Urgell hahaha Greetings from Galicia, Spain.
Belive in Andorra..couples of andorra are really great with amazing live with them ..Love great 😍😍😍👍👍👍
omg someone made an amazing vid about Andorra :o
I am binge watching this channel
Fun fact: Andorra is a country so hidden from the rest, that at the time germany realised they forgot to make a peace treaty with Andorra for WW1 they already were in the second one,so they techniccally faught 2 wars at once.
Barbs! As you near the end of the "UN recognized Nations in alphabetical order in English," I hope you come back to these early episodes to flesh them out even more!
4:30 San Marino is a co-principality too
No
It’s not..
bro thank you so much for your videos. geography was always boring to me & now after watching your videos i'm super interested
Greetings to Andorra from Algeria 🇩🇿
You can take the longer road above instead of the tunnel from France for free m
Andorrable?
LOVE THIS. CHANNEL!
You can enter Andorra from France and for free.
+M94 Production it's free too
You come from Spain, it's free too.
I don't get why it would be paying, I go there several times a year
Andorra, while not being part of the European Union is in a customs union with the EU. This means that Andorrans can freely move within the EU and citizens of EU can freely move to Andorra.
absolutely
gordn ramsi that’s wrong, you cannot freely move, you need passport to entry
Cyprus and Iceland are not micronations. Micronation does not necesseraly mean just small state. It also refers to the special status a micronation has. For example Liechtenstein, San Marino, Vatican , Monaco and Andorra
5:07 I thought the text said “hey princess”
