Thank you for the video. I was able to give a "second life" to the actuator on the driver's side door. There is an additional rod with a green tab that needs to be unclipped in order to remove the actuator. I believe it's for the key lock.
Here it is March of 2022 and your video is still helping! I’m glad you said the sizes. I had to go get a T9. It was nice because I barley found one. If I tried to eyeball it, I would have been mad. You saved me a lot of time. Thanks!!
Man thanx a bunch!!! I just changed mine while watching your video. I'm ecstatic! You don't know how long I've gone with that actuator out. I actually forgot you double click the keys for the passenger side to unlock because it's been so long! Lol
Great video. Two comments. There is no need to remove the actuator from the bracket. I felt like I was going to break it so I just left it on the bracket and removed the cover. Also, I think it is a T8 torx, not a T9, at least that is what fit for me. Thank you for the great video!
thank you man, my car is doing the same thing, im going to use your video to fix my doors, i appreciate you doing this whole process. I have the 2005 model.
Thanks for sharing. It helped me fix the door ajar sensor on my 2007 Mustang convertible. I would have broken one clip and probably bent the rod without this. Very nice detail. Made the job go fast. Great video
My passenger side door won’t lock with the key fob or the lock/unlock buttons, it will only lock if I manually press it down. It does make a whirring noise when I press the key fob and buttons though, could simply replacing the actuator fix the problem ?
Definitely not trying to repair it when the part costs like $14 new at this point. Additionally, to me, changing sides of the gear will only create a new stress point on the other side resulting in failure of the same part again. Unsure how much a new part ran at the time of this video though.
thanks for the video! i got it to work! it gave a hard time because of the bolts on the side of door, had to blow them lol do you still have your mustang??
CiberPantro that’s great! Yeah some environments make those bolts tough! I don’t have mine anymore, unfortunately. It wasn’t serving my needs to transport film equipment so I had to move on. But I’m sure I’ll own another later in my life.
My 2006 mustang does not lock with the key fob nor the buttons on the doors . The driver door buttons won’t lock or unlock but the passenger door buttons unlock only. All the buttons on the key fob work except for the locking button. Do you think this the will fix my problem?
miguel ramirez I don’t believe it will. If you don’t hear the lock actuator motors running continuously when you hit the lock or unlock buttons, then it’s likely a different issue you are dealing with.
Not sure about it being the actuator or not. It's definitely not the same problem that I'm fixing here. This is a mechanical issue that I fix here by swapping a gear. I would look at electrical issues, probably a relay or something like that.
There's another "tricky part" that you did not show us how to remove it. There's something near the yellow thing kit toward the end that wont let all the part come out and it's hard to remove the actuator from inside.
Does the part of the video at 5:25 help? That’s the yellow clasp I ran into that was difficult. Or maybe you need to unscrew the rest of the unit first so that the connecting rod can come off more easily?
@@jslabaug I saw that you removed the yellow part which I was also able to remove it but there was something else above it I believe it’s what controls the lock. I figured it out eventually and was able to change the actuator in 3 hrs :/
Joel Slabaugh and a few years or so ago I was driving on the highway & my doors were locking & unlocking on their own. I have seen some weirdness like that with the car lol
Can you describe what you had to go through if you get a moment? It might help others doing the driver’s side. I actually don’t know what is harder on that side. More wires?

What was yours doing because mine keeps thinking the door is open no matter what

Well done video. Very informative, and great attention to detail making it easy to understand.

Great video, this is the same actuator for a 2006 F150
Awesome tip! I wonder how many vehicles this trick can be used on
Thanks for showing how to remove and replace the two rods(door lock and handle) onto the yellow tabs.
Awesome video, I had the same problem and this helped me replace my actuator.

Great job on the video, helps do-it-yourselfers save some money, instead of throwing it at repair shops lol.
it worked on mine, thank you
Thanks, I hope this is the same problem with my 08 Mercury Milan.
Nice video. Very informative.

miguel ramirez sounds like an electrical issue more than a lock actuator mechanical problem.
Mine dont make noise it just sometimes works for a few cycles then goes dead for months and I cant get it to work, is mine the actuator?

@@rubend.rodriguezjr.530 how did you figure it out?
Ok my 2007 isn't making any sound, just isn't locking with key or fob.
gsdlover mustanggurl what about with the switches on the doors? Can you lock and unlock?
Joel Slabaugh yes they lock, and unlock, go up & down but it's not actually locking the door! No bueno lol
Joel Slabaugh and a few years or so ago I was driving on the highway & my doors were locking & unlocking on their own. I have seen some weirdness like that with the car lol
Joel Slabaugh I'm thinking actuator or lock rod maybe??
Joel Slabaugh on top of everything it just snowed in Western NY, so I'm having a garage look at it.
I wish you had done the driver's side, much harder
Can you describe what you had to go through if you get a moment? It might help others doing the driver’s side. I actually don’t know what is harder on that side. More wires?
Why me lord why me 😢
