- A playthrough of Sega's 1990 platformer/shooter for the Sega Genesis, ESWAT: City Under Siege.
Played on the default difficulty level.
ESWAT is an early Genesis "adaptation" of the ESWAT arcade game rather than a "port." It's based on the same idea and characters, but it's a brand new game on the home system.
You play as Duke, a police officer in the near-future slumtropolis of Liberty. Liberty is being threatened by EYE, a futuristic uber corporation, and the company's soldiers are waging war on the local law enforcement.
It's basically Robocop by Sega, sans license. Duke is Alex Murphy, Liberty is Detroit, and EYE is OCP. It's a solid framework for a video game plot from 1990.
The game plays like Shinobi, but from the third stage on, Duke gets a jetpack that makes him feel straight out of the RoboCop 3 games. In a good way.
It has the same large sprites and comfortably stiff controls that Sega's early Genesis action games are known for, and it sets itself apart with its cool near-future dystopian vibe, its impressive setpieces, and its hyper 80s sense of color.
I loved the way each level had a distinct theme to its visual design - the lasers that split the foreground and background are a really cool touch in stage 2, and I loved the way stage 5 has a huge miniboss following you in the shadows. For a game that came out 1990, this is some grade A stuff. The soundtrack is great too, and the digitized voices are nice and clear.
The controls are snappy and the jetpack feels nice and weighty, and the game's difficulty is pretty reasonable. There are a few big spikes over the course of the game (and oh man, that last boss is brutal!), but it's generally fair at the default level.
I really enjoyed ESWAT. If you ever played RoboCop 3 and thought, "this would be so much better if only it didn't totally suck!" ESWAT does an excellent job of picking up the slack.

ESWAT feels like a Sega-made Robocop game, and it's a pretty damn good one.
I wish they linked this game to Streets Of Rage, for the first game was supposed to be an spin-off of.
I can totally see someone editing the sprites in this game to make it a *_"Robocop"_* game. Kinda like that *_"Journey to Silius"_* _Terminator_ sprite hack.
My eyes! It hurts 0:26
eswat and adpolice are related to bubble gum crisis
Yes sir it’s a hard game I got good at it but it not no game like trash ass vectorman,i put this game at the tiers with Castlevania,Smb,Ninja Gaiden, mega man og and x,which are at the top 5 in my list
The music in this game is an absolute banger!
Lots of Sega games on the Genesis used the "Shinobi" formula. The Arcade original had that hilariously sounding "Oh, thank you officer!" soundbyte.
Sadly this is one of those games I overlooked back then when I had my Genesis. I was more into revenge of Shinobi, strider and separation anxiety Spider-Man. Time to give this one a go👍
I like how genesis games have an "arcade" feel to them vs. super nintendo
Certainly true for their first party IPs, although the SNES definitely had it's share of excellent arcade ports too!
I pray you’re not including altered beast in this? It’s a whopping great turd compared to the arcade version
Me the same
I like how Super Nintendo games have a "good game" feel to them vs genesis.
@@bardledoo4023 console war was a long time ago dude
Played this a couple times at a friend's house, fun game
I remember playing this at Christmas on a imported mega drive haha fantastic memories
"I'm just your average ESWAT cop. Some pesky citizens were peacefully protesting with their guns out so I had to mag dump into them. I was in fear of my life. But that's OK. I'm government so I have partial immunity and can't be sued. So I've earned myself a donut."
32:58 Mission completed! Now I have to help to Streets Of Rage guys!
cool never noticed its the same cop car
Just seen that lol
I gotta get a playthrough of this here goin'! Watching this has given more incentive to do so!
And those voice samples... They're among the clearest I've heard in a Sega Genesis title since Task Force Harrier Ex!
This is the REAL deal.
Arcade version is fun, but this one really shows how usefull is an ESWAT suit.
0:30 [ *_"E-SWAT!"_* ].
This is a game that I never played as a kid. I played it through *_"Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection"_* for *_Xbox 360_* .
I had a lot of fun with the game, even though I couldn't beat it. It's a hard game.
This definitely has that 89' Genesis quality to it. The graphics, the music, the gameplay, everything... and I love it.
I had this back in the 90s, game ruled
So this is if Robocop 3 didnt sucked
Count me in
So is this supposed to be like, a sequel to the arcade game? Huh. Still, gotta love that classic Sega feel. Glad I grew up with the Genesis.
I'm assuming this has NOTHING to do with the Andrew Davis film _Under Siege_ and EVERYTHING to do with jumping and shooting everyone unfortunate enough to move within your line of sight. Whilst bobbing your head to the gritty yet catchy soundtrack. Classic.
The Original Master Chief!
Omg omg omg! I played this and was sooooo excited!!!!
Love this game. A lot better than the arcade even with the lack of a 2 player mode.
Great walk through.....some really hard levels to be fair!
Only downer is you don't get to battle a Bengal tiger, gorilla, and a monster truck this time.
I have this game on a SEGA plug n play, and it’s relentlessly difficult. Especially stage 4.
back in the day at my local youthcenter they had an arcade cabenett of this game and it was a quarter eater
I used to be good at this game when I was young, but I tried it again more recently and didn’t beat the 2nd mission boss. Might try again now that I have had my memory jogged by watching this. 😄
This game is no doubt a million times better than the 6th Police Academy Film. Where they too had to save a city under siege.
I never seen the *_"Police Academy"_* movies... but I *_HAVE_* seen bad reviews for all of them.
Are they actually bad comedies?
@@Dorian_Scott I've only seen the 1st one. The 1st 4 were deemed ok but 5-7 were considered awful. Plus 5-7 didn't even have most the same actors most painfully Steve Gutenberg. However they somehow kept the Black Guy who made all those nifty sounds using only his mouth. "Michael Winslow is his name I believe."
They are good to varying degrees, but the last one in Russia was pretty darn bad.
@@namelessjedi2242 Ah yes the first US film, filmed in Russia. The one that tanked the franchise.
Man your the commenter I see quite frequently the other is Justin Y
Now if Peter Weller wears a modified Robocop costume (minus the visor and painted blue), he would make a good poster man for E-Swat, if not be in an adapted movie.
Oh sure, hype up the cool armor but don't give it until level 3!
The first 2 levels take like 5 minutes to beat. Very easy.
stage 4 sudden difficulty ramp is too much. old games draw you in and smash you down so hard
That guy in 18:50 looks just like masterchief from Halo.
Best underdog game of the early genesis.
I used to play this game SSOOOOOOOO much¡¡¡¡¡
I loved it¡¡¡¡
Thanks for bring my memories back¡¡¡
Graphics and even introduction are very similar to Metal Gear 2!
When u were enjoying little things just little things
Even as a small kid back then i thought that the sudden parallax "lock" of the background in 8:30 very odd. This must be a bug or something
Not a bad game at all, definitely better than the Master System port in my opinion (the one I used to own back in the day). Some good old action-filled fun.
There's a *_Master System_* version of this game?!!
@@Dorian_Scott Ye, it's very different from this one. In fact, almost everything is different; compared to this/arcade version, except for your super armor and a couple "somewhat" similar locations!
The Master System port was pretty bad, especially for a SEGA developed port
Last time I was this early it was still "only two weeks to flatten muh curve"
This is idealized version of the world we may soon have to face
this is why I couldnt find this game. cause I was thinking robocop!
Used to love this game, better than the Arcade Version
Eswat is classic Mega drive game with a vengeance
Better than the master system version 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
El mejor juego que jugué en su tiempo ❤❤❤
I remember this game
This version was better than the arcade!
Nostalgia
This game was made by michael bay,EVERYTHING EVEN THE ENEMIES EXPLOTE XD
0:31 I think I just heard Archer / Bob there.
Great Game! Console superior to the Arcade! 😎😎
It was a superior of the arcade game.
SEGA-COP!
The Genesis version was better than the arcade. Only gripe with the game was the final boss because he gets to end the fight with a cheap shot from his burner and if your health was low you were going to die.
Yeah, I've died my fair share of times thanks to that.
Just don’t stay in range of it
Eu tô tão viciado no jogo eu zero sem morrer hj a noite agora eu zerei duas vezes consecutivas sem morrer esse jogo é muito bom
ESWAT: city under siege
The better Robocop!
It gives all Robocop 3 robots to shame!
Better than "Robocop Vs. The Terminator" on the Sega Genesis?
@@inputfunny Well, More so likely.
@@MegaMan87not far as graphics and weapons
Where’s Clarence Bodiker?
The eswat armor is made by vilainese magic.
Surprised you didn't unlock the hidden "powdered doughnut" board.
i thought the voice said beast one or bee swat and i know now that it was e swat
"ESWAT: city under siege"
How does he take a dump while wearing that suit? 🤔 Must be hard getting into a bathroom with that thing on.
Look at it this way.
Not dying or not being able to take a crap?
This is one of those "here, you do it and I'll just watch" games. Level five is just idiotic with all those hot zones.
Your burner reloads super fast.
Why?
EUA achei um jogo extremamente difícil!
