I was both a child and very bad at games, so I had no idea how batfuck wild this game actually was. Neo-Russia, female chinese assassins, airships, mechawalkers, azteco-amazon boomerang huntresses, all serving an evil wizard... dude, this is awesome "THEY CAME FROM THE THIRD MOON WITH ANCIENT MONSTERS" real gemini home entertainment material here, omg
I used to play this in the arcade and i remember being really impressed with how close the genesis port was to the arcade version when it came out. Strider's sprite is even an improvement in some cases with added animations and his legs/proportions don't look as awkward.
Historical facts this game Sega Genesis version was rated the best console version it's released in 1990. Sega Genesis version is almost identical to the arcade. This blew my mind at 13. I played the arcade and Sega Genesis version. To me one of the best Sega Genesis games ever. Shadow Dancer is up there but Sega Genesis version wasn't like the arcade version for shadow Dancer.
My friend had this game and we would often play it. However we could never get past that 3rd level crusher because we could not figure out that you must jump from wall to wall to make it to the top in time. We were dumb kids.
100 legs of Bull the SeneTore full of shit, then when it pisses it become the senetpeed, well 99 and a wooden leg, they use that for mating or making congress...
Me and my brother begged my older sister to by this game for us every for like 3 weeks straight. The coolest thing about this game was that the jump flips were actually animated and not balled up in a small ball
I was so proud of myself once I had mastered the 3rd Moon level's antigravity location, especially the section with the moving spikes, navigating the place upside down, and then getting into the chamber with the giant floating mechanical ball-shaped weapon. I must have died on those spikes dozens of times before I got used to inching along to just the right positions to avoid a stabbing. The great music only added to the excitement. Fond memories.
I think of this as a enhanced port. Not graphically or speed wise, but several changes were made to better suit the game: different stage audio/ a better ending. Is it arcade perfect: no. Does it need to be, not in this case. You get a great strider experience minus some annoying audio in between stages (voice clips over the top of each other) and a repeat sound track as well.
Best song in the game is the stage 04b (the dinosaur part) i always loved that one and the fact they used it for the ending credits makes it all more perfect.
This was the 1st game I was OBSESSED with. I got into Sega Genesis in 1995 and my cousin over in L.A. had this; we would play this and Sonic 2 endlessly. I actually waited for my dad to come home at 4 in the morning back from L.A. in 1999 cuz I had him pick up this cart from my cousin's for me. THAT'S how into this game I was. Still in my Top 10 Ever.
I used to have to hide this game, if my grandmother would have seen the wizard encompassing the world with that evil laugh, that game would have ended up smashed and in the trash.
Good longplay. I love this game, it's a good conversion of the arcade. But it's hard, there are not enough continues (at least in the Japanese version, I don't know the others). I tried to beat the game a few months ago, but I couldn't go further than the 3rd level... I should try again.
My goodness this game was so ambitious...the port was amazing considering the tech at the time. Way ahead of it's time. Easily one of the most imaginative platformers in the pre-polygon era.
Great playthrough, kudos! You know, for some reason i love how the last level is "here's all the bosses of the previouslevels, fuck you" :D hehe It gives you a nice warm-up before Meio. Cheers!
@@angrymobsters1599 I also remember getting Super Monaco GP that was probably $50-60 AND getting the large table top joystick at the same time. No idea how much that was. Maybe $80? And don’t even talk about Neo-Geo and the handheld trbo-grafx 16! A younger neighbor had it alllllll. Every system and dozens of games. Id jump the fence and play that stuff in middle school.
this game was hard. I've probably threw my controller and turned off the g'damn console more times than I'd like to unveil, probably looked like a fool but that's how frustrating it was getting to the bio chamber and being thrown into the cover structure and being smashed to bits, almost sadistic on the designers laughing at those who couldn't get past that part
As a kid playing streets of rage this game used to scare me for some reason id play it get so far and just be kinda scared. Even the sound effects and sound track. Fuck knows why 😂 the snow level with the 🦍 i think was the furthest i got
New Player Has Joined brought me here because they couldn't even figure out what this propaganda craziness was. 7:07 - that totally looks like the Battleship Halberd from Kirby Super Star
I used to love pausing this game when Hiryu would flip in the air. It was so impressive on the Genesis back in 1990.

I remember loving the music in this game and hearing it again is taking me back, wow
Brilliant game. Really ahead of its time.
Definitely agree
The idea of gravity in this game was brilliant
Yep. I couldn't believe it when I saw it! And the first time against the ball that you spin around, was fantastic
that was where I've probably broken at least two of my genesis controllers lol 😆🤣
9:35 was one of the best mindbending boss fights back in the day.

We played it so much too but I don’t think we ever completed it… good old times
I want to see the US Senate turn into a caterpillar monster.
that would be a great rom-hack idea jaja.
100 legs of Bull the SeneTore full of shit, then when it pisses it become the senetpeed, well 99 and a wooden leg, they use that for mating or making congress...
lol yah when i seen that i lost all hope
They already have. They did that last election. 😩
US Version lacks 2 things:
1.Strider's "HA!" when he attacks (like the Arcade US versions)
2.Grandmaster Meio's "All son of old gods, DIE!!!" phrase
Me and my brother begged my older sister to by this game for us every for like 3 weeks straight. The coolest thing about this game was that the jump flips were actually animated and not balled up in a small ball
Isa sa pinakamahirap na laro hindi ko man lang natapos
the sound effects of this game have been hard coded into my DNA. xD

First 8mbit Sega game. I was a teen when I played Strider on Genesis. Such fond memories.
8 megabit (not 9mb), which makes it 1 megabyte. Sega made ads bragging this.
@@moronpaul i remember Sega bragging out Strider being 1 megabyte I just got confused about if Sega claimed one megabyte or 8 megabits ?

*"WwwWWWWAAAaaUGHHH!"*
Almost arcade perfect. The music was awesome
The first part of the second stage has excellent piano music
What an amazing looking game! Esp for 1989! Sega was truly an amazing system! Just bought one today! Haven't owned one since I was 15, in 2003 😱

BRUH!! 😂
😭😭😭😭 I'm 34 years old I remember this game when I was like 8 or 9 I couldn't even beat the first stage lol
Me and you both!
That laugh in the beginning... is something that I am trying to work into meetings at work.
I work with 95% women... wish me luck, men.

This game was sick.
The sequel on Xbox was something, got a Metroid prime vibe to it but I enjoyed it.
I used to have to hide this game, if my grandmother would have seen the wizard encompassing the world with that evil laugh, that game would have ended up smashed and in the trash.
Sounds like your grandmother is a religious freak
This uses some of the audio cues from the x68000 version. (i.e. stage intros to Balrog/Amazon/Third Moon), along with the ending BGM. Interesting!
Its vise versa, but correct!
The music sounds better in the console version verses the arcade version!🕹️🎮🕹️
My 1st time playing sega 😍 slapping those rice cooker get hawk and doggies 😂😂

There was a cheat code in the Japanese version to help with continues.
Japanese Version: No continues (by default). Code required to allow the 3 continues.
American Version: 3 continues (by default). No codes required.
They gave us the ending to the game at the title screen and we didn't even know it.
Released in Japan as Strider Hiryu.
11:55 aw you skipped the chance to get a Robo Panther : (
Plasma swords created by willpower, fight hiryu, fight for everlasting justice.
Glad to finally see the ending. As a kid I never got further than the Amazon style level.
Besides bringing my childhood memories back; I could finally learn how to play through the last level. As a kid I could never get so.

Did anyone start to watch this after the last events in Kazakhstan? The laugh of the Dark Lord is the best part!
9:47 16:43 that's so cool.
aah I'm looking for this...
Top fame on Sega
Wow I just remembered this game I could never beat it
When I first played this as a kid I thought this game was from the future.
Wow, Meio's laugh is pretty scary.....☹️☹️☹️☹️
First it played at normal speed, then gradually slowed down to give it a more Dr. Evil type laugh
I had this but never even got past the first level lmao
The ED209 knockoff in level 2 is hilarious
Classic 90s Video Game 🎮
Fantastic run!!
This game was nightmare fuel for me as a kid 🤣
Very 'Dune like' the design concept, now that I see it with grown eyes in 2024.
ha! , watching this I never realised as a kid how close to the end I got , wow , nvm nice to see it now :)
THE MEMORIES😂 of my goodness yo.
I would love to see a remake of this game, like Contra Operation Galuga
Oh man, I don't miss that jungle level at all. AKA BOO AKA BOO AKA BOO SUMMA
“Packabu done it!”
“Spaghetti!” or “Forget it!”
That what they’re saying
this is amazing 9:48
Ah the memories ❤
I remeber buying this in 1990 for my genesis
Great conversion!
The Arcade original was groundbreaking.
The Commodore 64 conversion was a bit of a disappointment.
23 minutes. Why do I remember this taking me hours to finish?
I think this game was $75 at the time. That’s a lot these days! Babbages had it but I think I got it at Kay-Bee toy store. 😁❤️
75 dollars in 1990 is 167 dollars now. My god are we spoiled with games now. That is just flat out ridiculous 😂

The audio is very uncanny. It doesn’t sound right, even the arcade version just kinda sounds like a debug
Only game I ever beat at the arcade.
Came for the sound effects. 2017 strider disappointed me in that dept.
Played this game ALot!
To be honest quite a farcry from the sequel, but what can you say when there's a decade of a gap apart between them.
Strider 2 on the Megadrive? Or Strider 2 on the PS1? Megadrive has a Strider 2 I have it, its a good game.
Spettacolo
This game is why I am not a communist.
I see the symbolism. Well done.

nah, it’s the frames. That’s the real problem
