Great idea to pack foil blankets, I always carry them when trekking. They are so light but vital for survival, great for helping casualties too. They are very small and light when packed away, they will fit in a pants pocket
I was with a youth club back in the early 70's and we went on a day trip to climb carrauntwohill. I was 16 and had no gear of any kind a friend who I went up with had a broken arm in a cast.We thought the walk up was easy and decided to go down a different way which seemed shorter but when we got down the people in charge were just about to organize a search...anyway all ended well. 30 years later a friend of mine (an experienced climber) was killed on carrauntwohill along with a companion of his.
I enjoyed your video. You covered the essentials well, and are spot on advising people to carry enough food. It's a good idea to carry spare food in case of weather delays etc. Another trick is to carry some chocolate for the 4pm biorhythm energy dip (often experienced at the end of a long day). Food lethargy can cause clumsiness, poor judgements and accidents. Since Ireland's so wet I think a pack cover, and an internal wet sack, are good ideas. A saturated pack gets really heavy (I’ve experienced this first hand on New Zealand's Kepler Track). Great advice about the use of poles - they are sooh knee protective. Thanks.
I lived in Kerry for three years I've climbed carauntoll twice enjoyed your videos thanks
