- In this video I review how well the Vertigo VSE-2 plugin EQ compares to the analogue hardware. The Vertigo VSE-2 is a 3 band gyratory EQ with a beautiful sound to it. Let see who wins in this shootout of analogue vs digital.

The hardware was totally different sounding in any possible way. Good video!
SSL the Bus + review then Vertigo VSE…keep feeding us 😋😋😋 great reviews, great sound. Thank you
I'm going gradually go through every piece of hardware we own.
@@AudioAnimalsStudio 🥰😍😘😘😘 💃🏿💃🕺🏿🕺👯♀️ we were tired of folks who talk about real analog equipment that they never touched.
Plugin are a little harsh and lifeless, but for the price difference, the plugin are a total winner in the world of the mixing in the box. Thank you.
Yes, that's what I always think. We are comparing £200 vs £4800.
Did you used the 16x over sampling ???
Great review, thank you for this. May you let me know what kind of controller it is in the middle of your desk ?
The console is an Avid S4
I wish you would did a Mixdown as well
Hardware smoother with bit more depth but I also noticed that it shifts the center image to the left side quite a bit so the channel balance isn't perfect, which could be simulated by using 2 VSE-2 plugins in dual mono configuration
I could hear some tolerance between the two just like analog eq never target the identical frequency as if i put it on 2000khz on the first eq , the second eq will boost at 2100 even if i have them in the same settings but the hardware has more width and depth but they nailed the eq curve and phase.
It is a good EQ, I do notice a good percentage of the difference between the two units. without going into a rabbit hole I feel the analog unit outperforms the plugin and to me is greater than 5%.
There is certainly a difference. I think I was being generous with the 5%
I cannot but entirely agree with you Jesus... more like 33,3333 % - 44,4444% 😂
@@AudioAnimalsStudio haha, I believe 50% would perhaps be generous... I think of it as such: at certain scenarios, it is like this: Is it good enough or it isn't? If you know the difference and hear it in your listening environment, than if that difference matters to you, it is more like 100% better 🙂
@@AudioAnimalsStudio BTW super thanks for doing this shootout and giving your opinion👍. Truly appreciate it!
@finspire8632 we all see percentages differently. After comparing 100's of different plugins to their hardware equivalent, your view on percentages change. This is not a 50% difference plugin.
Love the hardware and the plugin also sounds great. Have you compared the Brainworx VSM-3 and VSC-2 plugins to the Vertigo VSM-4 and VSC-3 plugins? I wonder why Vertigo did not continue working with Brainworx for the next evolution of their plugins.
Yes I have compared these but didn't shoot a video. This is on my list to do.
both sound good, but the plugin sounds a little flat and up front to me, even just watching on phone speakers. like there’s some 3D space with the hardware that’s missing. not the worst when you compare the price though.
ok, in the video demos from 3m02 you hear a big difference on the highs between the hardware and plugin. Plugin is vague in the highs and the hardware is precise and more detailed.
Yes I agree. Hardware is smooth and pleasing to the ear, the plugin feels somewhat harsh and brittle.
@@AudioAnimalsStudio Wonder how it Is possible that they can't make the plugin sound better. A bit strange. Vertigo makes brilliant hardware. I got the VSM2 which let you be very creative with sound.
I'm really interested in this eq plug-in. It's not cheap though...
Its a good plugin. Feels like the reel thing in many ways and has extra features. It isn't cheap and it is quite a bespoke plugin.
Once again, EQ software is pretty close. Good enough if you choose a top eq that doesn't smear transients or shrink the soundstage.
Also the stereo imagery is way better on the analog unit. The plugin seems to place it higher...
Yes 100% agree. That's even more apparent in this room too.
Thousands of $ difference..IT BETTER SOUND BETTER
Hardware wins
The plugin (whether good or bad) massively shifts the tonal shape of the material in comparison to the hardware. I know you have to be politically correct, perhaps? It's far more than 5% in my opinion.
I was in a generous mood whilst making this video.
LOL, I get it...
Alanalogue is ALWAYS BETTER / and this is FOREVER!!!
Hardware definitely more snappy on transients and has more solid low-end basement, which is usually the main difference between algos and hardware of any kind.
