Toyota has been deceiving us once again, and the numbers suggest that their time at the top in Europe may have already passed, with a steep decline potentially looming within the next eight months. The regulatory framework established by the European Union appears to present significant hurdles for Toyota, possibly leading to their downfall. Despite touting a remarkable 10% year-over-year increase in European sales in the first quarter, outperforming the overall market, this positive development may signal the apex before a downward spiral. It's a common pattern in disruptions that companies facing disruption reach their peak just before experiencing a downturn. As a result, Toyota's robust sales are poised to encounter obstacles in the European market in the coming year.
Simultaneously, there are discrepancies in Toyota's statements, bordering on falsehoods. The company claims that their auto backlogs for hybrid, plug-in hybrid, fuel cell, and battery electric vehicle products remain high, reflecting customer enthusiasm for their multifaceted approach to carbon reduction. However, a closer examination of Toyota's sales numbers paints a different picture. While hybrids and plug-in hybrids accounted for 68% of European sales in Q1, internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles comprised 29%, and battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and the Mirai fuel cell vehicle accounted for a mere 3% and 0.08% respectively. This significant disparity between Toyota's claims and actual sales figures suggests a misrepresentation of the situation at best and outright dishonesty at worst.

If what this video says is true, Toyota may not even survive to 2035, when the European Union bans all internal combustion engine cars and hybrids.
China is going electric at high speed. If they have no electric vehicles that make profit, they will be out of China. In a few years, certainly before 2030, a lot of electric vehicle manufacturers will be firmly established in Europe, like Tesla.
And they will lose a big chunk of their market share in the Global South. Why? The factories making internal combustion engine cars in China and Europe will continue to work, producing for export to the remaining markets. Toyota will face cutthroat competition in Latin America, Africa, Middle East, South Asia and Southeast Asia.
Hydrogen may have a role in the economy of the future, but not for cars. Hydrogen car has the classic chicken and egg problem: no refueling stations, no one buys the car; no large number of cars, no one invests to build those stations. Does any European country have billions and billions of euros to burn?
