If it helps, Amazon considers Alexa a failure. People aren't using it to buy things, and the things people use it for (What's the weather? Play Motley Crue) aren't actually monetizable, so they're "losing" billions of projected revenue.
Cuz you don't know how to program it.

Yeah mine doesn’t treat me like a goddess either.
God, you nailed that background music for online shop ads. So many ads from shopify to tcgplayer uses that weird clapping rhythm at the beginning it drives me nuts
Probably some focus group found it makes you more likely to buy junk if that background music is present. Kind of like how they invented 'musack' elevator music in the 1960s to pipe into department stores.

The Amazon Location in Grimes, Iowa actually got banned from two of my town's gas stations for ditching their piss bottles in the trash causing a bio-hazard for the gas-station workers. When the news picked it up Amazon threw their own contractor company under the bus even though amazon was forcing their contracted drivers into the mess in the first place.

I drove for the delivery station in Ankeny for over a year. It wouldn't surprise me if the same thing happens to them sooner or later since we all go to the same Casey's that's right by the station. Gotta love it when Amazon tells you that you should take some break time to go take a piss, then give you no time to do so because you're out delivering a route that was probably drawn out by an autistic 5 year old playing connect the dots.

Bold to imagine the mom and pop shop hasnt just ordered from the same overseas factories and then just marked it up 600%. Spending more doesn't mean you get more ethical.
Yeah, also those stores still have to ship all that stuff to their stores and the consumers still have to drive to the store and back. Not like it's somehow better on fuel emissions to go to them.
I'd wager that individual consumers each having to drive to the store just to get a few items and then drive home is actually much less fuel efficient than the delivery driver who makes one trip with everyone's stuff and drops it off at each house along the way.
If goods are not so expensive, and you don't have to go out of your way to buy them, you don't buy things you don't need and you plan your trips to as few as possible .
Even if the item comes from the same producer, you are still buying waaaaay more products you don't need. That is the difference.
Online shopping and delivery is ok, but we still should be responsible consumers
Exactly!
My local store buys from Amazon and does exactly that. 3X the price. I can't buy from them as I'd feel like a fool.
Given mom and pop are probably indian or Pakistani and just hired an old white couple as the acceptable front for the shop.

This video was followed by an ad for a toy that can only be purchased online.
It keeps becoming harder not to buy online when stores keep closing, including bookstores, stationary stores, electronic stores, housewares stores, hardware stores, appliance stores, etc. The stores that still exist (like department stores, drugstores, grocery stores) often encourage us to purchase online instead of in the stores.
It's interesting that some cities discourage people from getting bags by having a bag tax, while people can instead order the same thing online and have it come in a large cardboard box with packing materials and large address label stickers that make parts of the box un-recyclable.
That's because reduce, reuse, recycle initiatives are only allowed to address waste that everyday people have some direct control over. Companies never do anything wasteful. /s
It's even harder when you're poor and live in a rural area. And your last statement is a very good point.
The bag ban /buying thing is something that 100% needs to exist.
Carry around some reusable bags in your car. Problem solved.
Or if you take public transit or bike, get some of the bags that collapse down to like 2 ijchs (the more fabric ones) and carry them around in a backpack, purse or whatever.
I never considered the grocery store vs shipping box legislation/encouragement... 1:43
Nowadays it seems bricks & mortar stores are for impulse buying only. If you want a wide range of products at a cheap price, you shop online, though my recent MicroCenter purchase for Wi-Fi hardware went well.

I’ve worked in an Amazon warehouse for 2 years. It’s one of the better jobs I’ve had. Items go through more handling than a regular store (I’ve also worked flow team at Target & Wal-Mart) So, please don’t order bottled water. I remember when Wal-Mart & Microsoft used to get a ton of criticism, then a lot of business shifted to Amazon & Apple and so did the criticism. I expect another biz to take a lot of Amazon’s market share eventually, then similar criticism will follow, which will mostly be Made in China bad, if CEO poor, other workers will be rich, small biz always good, USA citizens should feel guilty for shopping (even though we’re only 5% of the globe), etc. Everyone recognizes the brand, so criticism of big business is easy $.
@@jeremyf9124 It's hit or miss, and it heavily depends on where you work. Weak, old or other wise physically impaired people tend to get easier jobs like sorting small packages that weigh 5lbs or less. The real hard jobs are where your expected to lift 30lb or more packages all shift.
And yes breaks or bathroom trips are often taken against you. Though they depend on the manager of your location obviously but the insane quota's amazon ask them to fill often pushes them into "Bad practices". The mere fact they pay well above minimum wage and yet still have a high turn over of employee's tells you a lot about the job.
It's a decent short term job to get a little extra money, especially as holiday hire where they pay even more than normal for temps. But your "record" of going the bathroom and other demerits to your standing does not work long term. Rack enough up and you get fired, only real way to deal with it is not stay long enough for it to matter.

I agree - really crank. There used to be ones with fly traps in the window, broken doors, angry employees, and overpriced, useless items. Couldn't wait for companies like amazon to come along.@@DemonicAdj
Agreed. Mom and Pop shops aren’t naturally better by being a mom and pop shop, many have same problems as Amazon with imported products and exploited labor. I’ve known a few very good local shops but they’re definitely in the minority.
At the end of the day, mom and pop shops are businesses too. They are committed to making a profit as much as Amazon or any big company
Local jobs(not just with sales, but support like maintenance, services etc), local tax revenue, local charity support etc... Lots of reasons to keep your money in your community rather than feed the beast Bozos...
As someone who worked at Amazon for nearly five years* this is so incredibly accurate that it hurts. Especially about the warehouse workers--Jeff Bezos literally wanted to make Amazon a hellish place to work so that most people would just leave after a couple of years and they'd leave for something better. And looking back on it, it makes me scared how overseas Amazon employees are treated. Not to mention how Amazon is also big on Greenwashing despite their claims.
Though... consider things like the Great Resignation, Amazon getting sued by both the FTD and numerous other businesses, and of course groups like Honest Ads, maybe karma/change is finally starting to come their way. :)

While not the best paid job in the world, overseas workers of Amazon (aka EU for example) ARE protected by the law and it is enforced
The really funny thing is the number of people who wouldn't want anyone eavesdropping on them, but then go out and buy a 'smart' device that will do exactly that, and records everything to the internet.
What’s really weird and sad is your phone and television does the exact same thing.

Only one part is missing: the fact the items are usually counterfeit, stolen, or in the case of intellectual property, pirated through copyright infringement. Online retail platforms are frequently pirate bays where counterfeit or stolen merchandise gets passed off as arbitrage.
Or the fact that if an item gets popular on Amazon, Amazon itself will steal the idea, sell an exact copy directly, and list it higher on their website than the original.

You forgot to mention the totally legit and definitely not payed for 5 star reviews on every product.
Not only is the service itself horrible, but it’s hard to even tell what items are even of decent quality.
And you have to make sure you are getting the product from a reputable dealer and not some knockoff
Look at the one and two star reviews. If they are consistently saying the same things, avoid the product.
Whenever I buy a new book for my kindle, I always look at the 1 and 2 star reviews because a lot of authors give out free books to their beta readers so that they will give glowing 5 star reviews. It sucks and makes me distrustful of them. I once read a book that was highly rated and it gave me a headache trying to understand it. If someone had given the author an actual critique then maybe they would have known not to write in a stream of consciousness, I would have known who was speaking and when and I would have also known that it wasn’t a complete book. I really like to read self published authors and over time I have watched some of them grow as a writer but some of them….need to stop. Lol

As true as this is, lots of people live in areas where local shopping opportunities are very sparse. Do you order online or drive an hour each way to get to some specialty store? Because that's much more gas you buy & burn up, much more wear & tear on your car. Oh and Amazon probably sells the thing cheaper. Many Americans can barely afford to support mom & pop stores either. Thrift stores are also dying off due to a lack of variety, because most of them I go into are 60% clothing items & the rest is stuff people "donated", which is to say they were going to throw it in the trash but chose instead to give it to a shop to show the world they're a "good person", after which a lot of it won't even sell because 99% of the shoppers there donated the same things.
Oh and overseas shopping sites. Do I buy some OFFICIALLY LICENSED product at a massive price tag or do I buy some knockoff that's a third the price, but somehow better quality? At the expense of a 2 to 3 week transit time & a giant headache to fix if it arrives broken.
The video also fails to mention that Amazon has been known to ban accounts for "too many" returns, but never states what that percentage of returned items is, with it almost being dependent on the account rather than a set percentage. So yeah return your stuff, until it makes them mad. Banned accounts also lose gift cards and points and stuff like that with no compensation.
Now do a video on how Paypal will freeze your account if you receive a lot of money at once.

Not to mention that sites sometimes scam their customers by not delivering anything
I was able to prove they didn't deliver a $700 machine in a 3 lb package, since the machine is 19 lbs according to Disney Brother who creates it, then it appeared a couple days later on my door step.
I have a lot against Amazon, endlessly putting things on back order after you order it, delaying "2 day Prime Shipping" for weeks as they keep sending it to the wrong location or other errors. But "package not delivered" is rarely much an issue. When it does happen customer support is almost always willing send out another one at no cost or refund me. If you complain a bit more in a polite way get a gift card or two for the hassle.
it's actually one of the down sides of being a seller on Amazon. They almost always take the customers side on issues, potentially costing sellers thousands as people falsely claim to not get stuff or that it's broken.
Ah yes, Amazon, the comporation people complain about yet nearly all of them use.
I'll find the names of companies, then go shop on their site.
I don't use it and never have. I do go to the small stores, primarily, because that's pretty much all there is where I live. Gotta go to the "big city" to get other stuff. 😂😂
I avoid Amazon as much has I can, but then several folks have given me gift cards and if I don't use them, Amazon gets free money. And sadly, there's a few items, like odd sized button cell batteries, that I can not possible get locally. Ace carries a few common sizes, and the local grocery store used to have hearing aid batteries, though I haven't' seen them in a while, but with no Radio Shack, I don't have much hope unless I order online. And if I have to order online, it's Walmart or Amazon, and they're in a race to the bottom.
Like it was with Walmart.
Yeah it was hard to break the convenience factor but I managed to do it.
I don't think people know just how honest this parody is. My household isn't allowed to use Amazon.
There is light on the horizon.
I use Amazon for books on my Kindle.
That's pretty much it.
And that is because I don't want to pay $8-16 for a book I might read once, and then have to schlep around each time I move.
That's alright, their phones have them covered.
Then you Sir, are a real man. Congratulations on having a soul.
Perfect and surreal quality as always
I get what I need based on not having to search 10 stores before finding out no one carries the item I'm looking for. Also I don't own Alexa because DUH of course it's spyware.
As someone who used to work in digital marketing, you have no idea the insane amount of data these online stores (and social media) gather. Hell, even local brick and mortar retailers have enough data on everyone to predict how likely you are to break up with your partner, miss a birthday, become pregnant in a frighteningly accurate amount of time, identify when you're going to start looking for a new job, and so much more.
Anyone who does this work for longer than a year has no conscience or soul.
I remember hearing a story about how Target wished a woman congratulations on having a baby even before she realized she was pregnant based on her shopping patterns influenced by early pregnancy hormones 😅
@@stevecooper7883 You're likely thinking of back in 2012, according to the NYT they sent a teenager baby coupons and her dad pitched a FIT. Then she told him she was pregnant....
As an addendum, Target sent me baby coupons only after I registered for baby stuff there, but they did send me infant coupons again when I was expecting another child a bit over 2 years later, and then AGAIN in two more years (no kids on the way) and then again again 3 years after that. So I won't act like they don't send those out for funzies, evidently one of the "triggers" is supposed to be moisturizer.....

On a serious note: Are there any studies out there showing that the logistical side of online shopping is actually worse than individual traffic for downtown shopping trips? Since over here in Europe there‘s actual labor protection laws those „peeing in a bottle“ Stories do not concern me as much…
Do you mean that European delivery workers are better protected than in the US?
I'd wager that individual consumers each having to drive to the store just to get a few items and then drive home is actually much less fuel efficient than the delivery driver who makes one trip with everyone's stuff and drops it off at each house along the way.
And whether it's a local department store or an online store's warehouse, they both have to ship the products to their location. Very few places actually manufacture the products in the same location that they sell them. And if they do make them on-site, it's likely a far less efficient process than using automation in a factory

Don’t forget the part where half the comments for a given product claim it’s a poorly made knockoff (whether it actually is or not). 😂
One reason you should always review only four star reviews that mention "pros and cons". Avoid even reading the five-star shills.
And the other half of the reviews are 5 star reviews from fake bot accounts. Well, not fake bots, real bots, but fake accounts…
Not sure if that's still a problem, but Amazon fulfillment used to mix their inventories for different sellers with the same products, so sometimes customers of a legitimate seller would still get knock offs.

It might be the shippers, but they have to know and should give better delivery estimates.
And they should let us complain about late deliveries or lost items in the review.
Yes, Amazon is far from perfect, but compared to the US Post Office they are stellar.
So the delivery is not amazon. All amazon deliveries are handled by third party companies and there is a way in either the amazon app or the website to make those complaints, and you really should because believe it or not amazon takes those seriously, and if the Delivery Service Partner gets to many bad metrics they can loose their contract to deliver for amazon.

@@patmcbride9853 us they choose the companies but those companies have to still adhere to their metrics.
“I’d say it’s time to put those last remaining handful of glaciers on hospice”...🤣LMAO but true 😕
There has to be a way to run an online store/shipping business ethically. Obviously most people could go to the store but being able to get one’s stuff delivered is great for the disabled.
With US lobbying practice an ethical business will never beat the one that has a lobbying capacity
Is there really a ethical way?
so happy these come out so fast
When I go local stores and they make me ring up $200 in merchandise in the self checkout, while employees hang out and no one wants to run a register, then I'm happy to let Amazon Prime ship it to my door for free. Self checkout was the biggest F U to ever hapoen to shopping.
People who say "I don't care if my data is sold or stolen" have no idea how social credit programs are built.
Now do IF MECHANICS WERE HONEST!
I watched this expecting a parody and got a documentary instead.
my years of cynical disgust towards prime and alex all in one video, thank you
One of my all time favorite movies is *Crazy People* with Duddley Moore and Darryl Hannah. This channel is the beautiful spirit of that amazing movie, and I thank you for that!!! 🥰🤗
That's a great movie !! Have you seen Idiocracy ?
The only bad thing about this video is how true it is.
As Ricky Gervais says, “it’s funny cuz it’s true”
That digital assistant's voice kills me and these are always so tastefully offensive lol. Thank you, Roger!
I worked at an Amazon fulfillment center for 5 years. Absolutely grueling work while being timed for every moment of the day. I have farmed, retired from military and 25 years a firefighter. I know what hard labor truly is and a career at Amazon is hardly sustainable for anyone. Even the management is burned up quickly. That said, I shop with them for hard to find items in my area.
I dunno. It was rough when I started about 11 years ago, but only if you kept volunteering to do more, aka me. However, I did get promoted out of it and it’s in the top paying companies in most rural and suburban areas. You can always make more working for like Toyota but then your guaranteed double carpal tunnel surgery. 🤷♂️ none of the jobs now are that bad especially for the money. The break monitoring etc is an unfortunate consequence of the breakdown of good faith employment and differing work ethic from some folks. I don’t think it’s reasonable to expect 2 hours of paid on the clock breaks in addition to regular breaks. But I’m sure there are still jobs that suck within the network at large. If I still worked where I did I’d have a better idea how it’s changed lately.
@@josephwoosley8059Uhm... no one anywhere gets "2 hour paid on the clock breaks" anywhere. Workers should not be timed and micromanaged to the point where they can't even go to the toilet.
This gentleman has the best job in the advertising space, has a captivating vibe, acts like a grandfather entertaining the kids...all in one guy
Jesus Christ this man is gifted
Lol "you already sacrifice so much for your family, shouldn't everyone else?" Got em! The one killed me. XD
I thought this channel stopped uploading. Im glad to see they are back
Woh broo !! mad respect to you. you really make good videos i just saw a 14 year old (maybe) video of yours "honest wedding" and it was so good and after all this time you are still making quality content, your face is also changed but good work gramps i really become a fan ....
Jeff Bezos is the real-life Mom from Futurama and im here for it 😂
My nomination for the cartoon equivalent of Bezos and perhaps Elon Musk goes to Montgomery Burns from the Simpsons. Excellent.....
OK, I'm convinced! No more Amazon! Though it's a 16-mile ride, more expensive, I'll really miss the affordable electronics, and I hate those scooters, I'm doing the responsible thing and shopping my (sort of) local Wal-Mart from now on!
My favorite bit is the downgrade in deliveries over the years. They don't ring the bell, some times they don't even come to your door just mark you as "undelivered" and leave. Or if it is left on your door step they never knock, ring etc to let you know. The "notification of delivery" is often not sent out till the end of the business day for some reason, not as things are delivered.
Simply put it's more hassle to try to actually get your package than going to a store. Often after a failed delivery or two you have to go to the UPS location to pick it up anyways.
Probably because their delivery drivers are treated to badly tbh
@@katharineeavan9705 They are so desperate for drivers they basically have no standards, even criminal records and the like don't stop you from getting hired. But yes they are treated poorly. Given insane quota's to fill, and if they actually manage to make them the company just raises the quota till they can't.
If packages go missing or other wise reported lost it tends to go on the drivers record, too many of those and you get fired. This is despite the fact it's well known packages get stolen, or people lie and claim to not receive it to get a free refund.
you only get amazon prime delivery in bigger cities with warehouses, forget which but think it's the UPS does the rest of the deliveries. Check the white shipping label. It will either say USPS or UPS, or there will be 4 qr scans at the bottom. If the latter then Amazon delivered.
@@thejewce7636 It's not just a prime thing, UPS used to bring it to your door as well. And we have prime in my city, and it's honestly not a whole lot better. One the worst parts is they deliver to I think 8pm? Meaning when they say "out for delivery" it's basically an all day wait for them to turn up, and again you won't get notified about it being delayed or other wise missing till the end of the day.
The later delivery be great if you knew when it was coming or could scheduled for a late pick up, but not when it just comes "at some point" during the day.
Problem is, when I go looking for most items I buy (not including food) I literally can't find it at Brick & Mortar stores anymore! So, I end up wasting gas, my time, and feeling like a fool. None of that happens when I buy items online.
Long live Roger and team 🤗
That l don't wanna know line is spot on American😭😭
Again, this should be aired 24 hours a day on national television. People are so stupid. Thank you Rodger.
People would just buy more crap

Imported bullshit? that's too high of a compliment, I thought it was the counterfeit imporium 😆
I hate that we’ve been forced to use Amazon more and more because it’s getting impossible to find so many things anymore. There is always eBay if you’re not in a hurry, but still.
Ebay is worse.
On eBay I'm usually buying antiques from home sellers. @@mrbn2022
I've ordered a few things from eBay that came to me directly from Amazon! Ever since then, I've looked at both Amazon and eBay to see which has the cheaper price. Like you, I hate that we're forced to use Amazon more and more (if I lived in a real city, it might not be the case. Maybe).
Quite a bit of stuff is cheaper on ebay even from non commercial sellers.

Dang! They got demonetized within the first five seconds 😂 Couldn't wait for that 30 second bit.
Looks like Gill found himself a new gig.
Fun fact: for every dollar spent on local stores 48% goes back into the local community compared to the 14% from chain and online stores.
The other 52% goes to Amazon to keep the local stores shelves stocked.
They forgot the part about where you have to drive to 3 different brick and mortars who claim they have the thing you need only to find out none of them do and order it online anyway.
