I have spent HOURS researching this exact topic. My big issue is that I’m allergic to salicylic Acid and it’s in freaking everything. IT cosmetics has a great pressed formula in a compact that I love and Supergoop! had a loose powder with a built in brush that I want to try. There are even ones you can get at the drugstore… I think physicians formula also has one. There’s something about the tackiness or the consistency of the liquid sunscreen that freaks my face out. I have had melasma for about 10 years thanks to our wonderful Florida sun and having a hard time finding sunscreen that didn't make me break out. The scarring was pretty bad for a number of years and I thought that I was going to have it forever. Thanks to you, I started using the ordinary products back in August of this year and my large dark "freckles" have really lightened up, also my breakouts have been minimized as well!! Thanks for all the knowledge you share 😁
2:49 low pH means that there's a lot of hydrogen (in the form of H3O+) actually. High pH means there's a lot of OH- ions. H3O+ and OH- react with each other.
I’m so grateful for this video because the only thing keeping me from getting the ordinary is figuring out what not to mix. If you have darker skin you’re more prone to hyperpigmentation and that’s not cute.
I used to watch your videos when I was a teen. In the past when you had severe acne, now your skin looks amazing! You are very consistent and very smart since your first video. Amazing Cassandra! Thank you so much!
I’m new to skincare to be honest and its pretty confusing. I’m 16 and my skin is dehydrated and dry... What bothers me the most are the blackheads on my nose and the hyperpigmentation that is left after some pimples. I’m just SO scared something will irritate or break me out! What could help me with those problems without drying me out? I loved your video, you’re so sweet! 👋💕 thank you!
I did the niamicinamide and vitamin c. My face looked like I put elmers liquid glue and it dried up and was peeling. I couldn't figure it out for the longest time what the combo was doing it.
It's crazy that this was in my recommended because I have been using the salicylic acid in conjunction with the peeling solution. Thank you so much for saving my skin!
So, basically it is all about knowing basic chemistry and physics and applying some common sense 😊. But your video really made me more attentive since I am currently updating my skin care routine and planing to buy Ordinary products. Thank you so much for your information :).
I have oily skin and I used to mix the niacinamide with the vitamin C suspention and God did I hate the feeling! It made my skin looks SUPER oily, not glowy but oily and I live in the Caribbean so not very comfortable with the heat and humidity throughout the day making my face feel heavy, but I stop using them together and now my skin looks and feels better
My aesthetician recommended I use The Buffet serum at the same time as Niacinamide + Zinc - I have combination skin with redness - so far I mix them together and apply by dabbing in the morning, I've been seeing good results. Wondering what you think.
I mix the resveratrol with Vit C from the ordinary and I like the way they both spread together this is for my Vit C nights. I was wondering if it is okay to use the Glycolic acid as a toner and then use the alpha arbutin and niacinamide with the magnesium ascorbyl acid as another combination??? ****UPDATED****
I know I'm not Cassandra (sorry!) but the one thing that I personally do know, is that mixing your Vitamin C with Niacinamide actually cancels out the benefits of Vitamin C 🤷♀️. I realize that this was not your question, just thought I'd give you that little piece of helpful info ❤.
@@Ashanti_flower24 Oh my goodness you are 100% *correct* !! I searched 'reliable' sources (I was so misinformed by silly blogs/magazine posts 🤦♀️) and *YES* I stand corrected. Thank you. Can I do my skin routine this way…. Micellar water …. Then **the ordinary** squalane cleanser, niacinamide, Hyaluronic acid, toner & the natural moisturiser?? Sorry if it seems dumb but so confused right now! Hahaha just wanna know which I can use and what I can use together xox
Can you mix the Niacinamide and Lactic acid 10% together. And can you mix the Niacinamide and aha bha peeling solution. I’m eaither going to choose one or the other

I spent over hundred bucks on my skin care, for over ten years, been looking for some skin care that actually works for my skin and cost less money than I spent, I really hope Ordinary products work for me, I purchased ordinary products a few days ago Cleanser Niacinamide Hyaluronic Buffet Moisturizer very excited to try them on my face Could you please tell me what to apply and layers them step by step in order for daytime routine and nighttime routine Thx in advance 🙏🙏
I made this mistake and used two products which do not mix well together, so I would end with more acne :\ The issue is that we are given too many products at once and then we do not do the research.
Since the peeling solution is rinse off, you shouldn’t have any issues if you use it afterwards. I think the big one you can’t mix Niacinamide with is vitamin C.
If you’re trying to improve texture and brightness while also fading scars I recommend using the Azaelic Acid in the morning and at night Granactive Retinoid in Squaline and then use the Aha Bha peeling solution like once or twice a week as a follow up in the PM
I have oily-combination skin and the only products I use is the Cetaphil face wash and the Neutrogena Hydro Boost gel moisturizer. I want to try to use the ordinary skin care products but I'm not sure which ones I should get and what order to apply them. I do live in Florida so it's very humid here (idk if that has any effect on skin care)
Cetaphil is the 'safe' recommendation dermatologist always give because it's so gentle to the point of ineffective. If you have oily skin, its even less effective. I'd swap it for CeraVe SA Renewal.
I will try new products and I came out on the ordinary. I have combination skin and I am 35 years old. I look something to reduce fine lines , a exfoliate product , Maybe also vit C and something that reduce bigger pores.
When you mention not mixing acids, do you mean use at the same time, or use just in general? I use the ordinary’s 5% lactic acid every night but once a week I replace it with the aha/bha peel. Is replacing it like that safe? Or should I remove one from my routine to avoid over using chemical exfoliants?
Hey gorgeous! Correct, I was referring to usage at the same time or immediately after one another. Again, I am not a licensed physician or dermatologist so I cannot trade or diagnose any condition or disease, however I am happy to share my opinions and experience otherwise. If a dermatologist or medical aesthetician recommends that you use exfoliating products in tandem then please follow that direction, but if you were doing things on your own, and for example use the AHA BHA peel then go in with the glycolic toner, then the, then a serum that has lactic acid and then put a salicylic acid moisturizer on before going to bed, this could cause a degradation of the skin or potential chemical burns, because multiple acid layers are being added back to back to back. Again if a licensed professional is recommending this for your routine then follow that direction instead, and if you are building up tolerance in your skin or have build up a tolerance steps might not impact your the same, but there are some skin care beginners that hear about the wonders of acids and go a little bit overboard, and unfortunately this can cause pigmentation issues, spots, redness and erythema, and potential chemical burns if the skin is super thin and sensitive already. I hope this helps!!
Cassandra Bankson hi Cassandra! Once again great video! I love the ordinary but have gotten irritation at times due to this mistake you mention. In the case of irritation, do you have suggestions for how to treat it? Sending hugs xx
Steph Palmer remove irritating actives until the irritation has cleared up and also focus on hydrating and moisturizing, especially if you have soothing and anti inflammatory ingredients you can use like aloe and centella asiatica. Often over exfoliation can temporarily impair skin barrier function and increase dehydration so ceramides and order skin barrier friendly ingredients can help but only if they’re products you know and trust. Never add in a new product to already compromised skin.
Could you use the peel say once a week and use products with salic acid on other days? My husband tends to get blocked pores and used to get acne so I was thinking of getting him those. Also I alternate between a p50 exfoliating lotion and a retinol in the evenings as I read you shouldn't use both at the same time. I am thinking of adding the niacinamide, plant based squalene and possibly a hyaluronic acid as my skin has a tendency to be dry and flakey but I am also prone to redness and sensitivity so I don't want to overwhelm my skin. Also I'm am in my early 30's so trying to ward off the skin aging 😂
Vitamin C and niacidmide are ok to use together. In fact, they can be beneficial. Paula's Choice explains this confidently in writing. I like that she explained they aren't a problem together, but she personally doesn't like how they feel together.
When I first heard of the ordianary brand, i was using 3 acids on my face, like in a consistent quantity. Because all this acids thing was new for me, i didn't knew the right way, so I burnt my face so bad, that even 1 year latrr i still struggle with some spots left. It's tragic. Because i was mixing the rong products in the rong quantity, like i used to se around. Oh, and i also wasn't using spf.
Thank you for this video. I am now freaked out now that I have purchased some ordinary brand products. Made me realize I need a new face wash since it is the murad salicylic acid in it. Yep getting a plain one now
Regarding the vitamin c cream and the niacinamide serum, it must be the silicone in the cream that’s causing that. I use the vitamin c serum and they combine just fine. I do apply them separately though
Refreshingly honest and full of good, truthful info.Thank you for your very helpful video delivered with clarity, honesty and humor.. this no shit approach is very attractive and easy to absorb.Much appreciated.

Thanks to you, I started using the ordinary products back in August of this year and my large dark "freckles" have really lightened up, also my breakouts have been minimized as well!! Thanks for all the knowledge you share 😁
Which products did you use ?
2:49 low pH means that there's a lot of hydrogen (in the form of H3O+) actually. High pH means there's a lot of OH- ions. H3O+ and OH- react with each other.
she didn’t mean there were less hydrogen ions, pH stands for potential hydrogen. Lower pH = more H+ ions
I’m so grateful for this video because the only thing keeping me from getting the ordinary is figuring out what not to mix. If you have darker skin you’re more prone to hyperpigmentation and that’s not cute.
I love The Ordinary, but the Buffet often makes me break out, and I'm really past the age when I should be breaking out.
I used to watch your videos when I was a teen. In the past when you had severe acne, now your skin looks amazing! You are very consistent and very smart since your first video. Amazing Cassandra! Thank you so much!
I’ve never laughed so quickly or so hard. “The internet is not a library, it’s a dumpster” tattoo that on my body
I remember watching tour videos few years ago. Your skin looks amazing now!
And ih my god... I used Buffet and Lactic right after... no wonder it never worked daaamn
Your personality is just life and you are so beautiful!! Thanks for sharing this wonderful information.
Mind blown! I am glad I found your channel. Thanks!
Although my brain doesn't work as fast as you speak ;) Thank god for the pause button
Love you sooo much
Cassandra
I've been following you since 5 years you are the Biggest inspiration on youtube
You are a Legend
I’m new to skincare to be honest and its pretty confusing. I’m 16 and my skin is dehydrated and dry... What bothers me the most are the blackheads on my nose and the hyperpigmentation that is left after some pimples. I’m just SO scared something will irritate or break me out! What could help me with those problems without drying me out? I loved your video, you’re so sweet! 👋💕 thank you!
I did the niamicinamide and vitamin c. My face looked like I put elmers liquid glue and it dried up and was peeling. I couldn't figure it out for the longest time what the combo was doing it.
I watched your channel years and years ago. Amazing how much you’ve grown your channel. Awesome work 👏 .
Great info! Would love to see the Ordinary products that do work well together.
One of the best channels!! -Thank you for helping with the ordinary products😇😇
Oh my gosh, I've seen so many of your comments, never realized you're a youtuber. You go boo. I like your video so much.
You’re my new favorite go to for the ordinary products😊
your skin is amazing! Crazy clear and smooth.
I use niacinamide & alpha arbutin together..so far its ok
I should hope so. They have a skincare routine on their website recommending that you use them together. Lol. I use them, too.
My aesthetician recommended I use The Buffet serum at the same time as Niacinamide + Zinc - I have combination skin with redness - so far I mix them together and apply by dabbing in the morning, I've been seeing good results. Wondering what you think.
I adore your videos talking about The Ordinary
oh my god, i’m so happy you’re still making youtube videos!!!! i used to watch you all the time in middle school and thought you were so cool
Mira Fawn you can use niacinamide with vitamin C...
@@Ashanti_flower24 Oh my goodness you are 100% *correct* !! I searched 'reliable' sources (I was so misinformed by silly blogs/magazine posts 🤦♀️) and *YES* I stand corrected. Thank you. I love when I learn something new. BONUS: I can finally use my own serums together and not worry. Phew!
*MYTH BUSTED*
I'm so sorry for the misinformation I spewed.
Mira Fawn no problem 👍🏾
Mira Fawn you seem like a very kind person. ♥️
I’m eaither going to choose one or the other
Muwahib Ahmed ok thank you!!!
Omg please yes skin care routine !! Anything
Can you talk about the oils the ordinary has, it would be really helpful :)))
I'm so glad your skincare journey is now come to this. I remember a time when you'd tried everything and it wasn't working.
"This is BRAND NEW information!" - phoebe. :p
I thought I was going to learn something new. I believe the Deciem actually has this exact information on their page. But I understand how this video can help and reach a larger audience. Thanks for sharing and reinforcing. ;)
Kirush Raveen the thing is, people don’t read it
I spent over hundred bucks on my skin care, for over ten years, been looking for some skin care that actually works for my skin and cost less money than I spent, I really hope Ordinary products work for me,
I purchased ordinary products a few days ago
Cleanser
Niacinamide
Hyaluronic
Buffet
Moisturizer
very excited to try them on my face
Could you please tell me what to apply and layers them step by step in order for daytime routine and nighttime routine
Thx in advance 🙏🙏
I made this mistake and used two products which do not mix well together, so I would end with more acne :\ The issue is that we are given too many products at once and then we do not do the research.
I’m studying to become an esthi and let me tell you .. you have taught me ingredients more than my own school , thank you
Can you use the “AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution facepeeling” & the “Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% Serum” together? ☺️
Since the peeling solution is rinse off, you shouldn’t have any issues if you use it afterwards. I think the big one you can’t mix Niacinamide with is vitamin C.
Violet Gin thank you for the answer 😊😄
No
Ewelina Wieczorek 🤷🏼♀️
If you’re trying to improve texture and brightness while also fading scars I recommend using the Azaelic Acid in the morning and at night Granactive Retinoid in Squaline and then use the Aha Bha peeling solution like once or twice a week as a follow up in the PM
i use a salicylic acid toner and a low percent AHA cream I think it’s a 5% cream and that works really well for me
SO CAN I DO THIS:
1. CLEANSER
2. SALICYLIC ACID
3. NIACINAMIDE
4. HYALURONIC ACID
AND
5. MOISTURIZER
OR NO?????
Yes, that is what I do too! Plus sunscreen in the morning ofc :)
Thank u queen I am dumb and therefore vulnerable to these mistakes
I have oily-combination skin and the only products I use is the Cetaphil face wash and the Neutrogena Hydro Boost gel moisturizer. I want to try to use the ordinary skin care products but I'm not sure which ones I should get and what order to apply them. I do live in Florida so it's very humid here (idk if that has any effect on skin care)
Kerry Mannix you can email them with your skin concerns, and they’ll recommend you a routine!
Mira Parker thanks so much for the advice!
I use The Ordinary , like always. I love the brand. No bullshit , no gaslighting. Icons
Thank you so much fir making this helpful video 😊
Aniqa Virk thank you so much for watching, and for your love and support!
Please do a video on ordinary what you should mix 🙏🙏
When I first heard of the ordianary brand, i was using 3 acids on my face, like in a consistent quantity. Because all this acids thing was new for me, i didn't knew the right way, so I burnt my face so bad, that even 1 year latrr i still struggle with some spots left. It's tragic. Because i was mixing the rong products in the rong quantity, like i used to se around. Oh, and i also wasn't using spf.
Thank you for this video. I am now freaked out now that I have purchased some ordinary brand products. Made me realize I need a new face wash since it is the murad salicylic acid in it. Yep getting a plain one now
Hey is using niacinamide 10% + zinc 1 ok with the caffeine solution??
Also please do a video on the right way to mix The Ordinary products. I recently purchased a few .
Desperately need a skincare routine for *cough* women over 40 with fine lines and starter wrinkles.
Retinol
Copper peptides
Holy cow your skin looks amazing! Your extreme coverage video was probably one of the first makeup videos I ever watched.
Can you do a combined anti aging and acne video using The Ordinary products?
Regarding the vitamin c cream and the niacinamide serum, it must be the silicone in the cream that’s causing that. I use the vitamin c serum and they combine just fine. I do apply them separately though
Can we mix glycolic acid 7% tonning solution along with niacinamide OR with ascorbic acid 8% alpha arbutin 2 % ?
Yes! I do this on alternating nights, but i wait at least 20 minutes after applying the toner
This is my morning routine, I use glycolic Tonner, ascorbic acid, buffet and sunscreen
Refreshingly honest and full of good, truthful info.Thank you for your very helpful video delivered with clarity, honesty and humor.. this no shit approach is very attractive and easy to absorb.Much appreciated.
How about mixing vit c serum and niacinamide?
She starts talking about it at 4:03.
Just wanted to say, I love to watch your videos! Really love your energy and your sense of humour :) Great tips as well! BIG FUN! Loads of love from the Uk xxx
6:04 are we just gonna ignore that perfect throw in the air wtf
Omg I saw your previous videos u had such a severe acne and redness. Now your skin looks crystal clear and clean..
Hi, thanks for the great video. I was trying to find out if I can mix vitamin c serum with peptides. I can't find to many information about this. Do you know if these two can be mixed?
The ordinary has a chart of whst to mix and not mix
@@savannahperez5469 Where from i found this chart??
Please do a routine for ageing skin. I also use a sun lamp for SAD so I need some direction on what products to avoid or when to use them.
