Snyder followed Morrison’s path, Morrison took comics out of the shadows of Moore and Miller. Here Zack took his Justice League out of the shadows of Watchmen (Moore) and BvS (Miller) and took some inspiration from Dan Jurgens to get there fast!

Thanks for the mention for the snyder cut! Zack always intended of making deconstruction of these comicbook characters as he mentioned many times after making watchmen he can't just go back and make a typical comicbook movie. There's always the why of it for each of them

In many ways Zack Snyder's Justice League is a typical comic book movie, it may set itself appart tonally and stylistically from current films but its purpose was to reconstruct the heroes, as snyder himself mentioned.

I love the symbolism of Michael's glasses in the Coda cut. If the eyes are the windows to the soul, then Michael putting on the glasses at the end is his soul being forever lost.
The fade to black implies that they shall never be removed again.
The only proper time he removes them in the movie is when Anthony sings the love theme, and Michael is reminded of Apollonia. He removes the glasses and attempts to hide his tears, showing the humanity that is still somewhat present.
Alas, his sins are beyond redemption, and his daughter pays the price...

      @@styleissubstance Thanks!
I know a lot of people who prefer the original ending where Michael just slumps over in his chair and dies as it parallels Vito's final moments from Part 1, but I thought that was a bit too on the nose.
Having Michael's final moments be similar to the ending to Part 2 shows how he's failed to progress into a better man.
Michael was thinking about the decisions leading up to him sitting alone in that chair by the lake - Part 3 solidifies that isolation with the loss of his soul.

Sorry if I make (english) mistakes or if i seem ignorant about the US history and actual politics, I'm French but I try to do my research.
I discovered your channel today, and I really love your content, it's thoughtful and precise, and grasp every details of your object studies.
I don't think the Snyder's Cut is a deconstruction or a satyre of comic books super heros, not the movie in itself, I think this movie is the calm before the storm to his universe
It's starts with Man Of Steel and BVS, movies about being alone, this sensation of "me" against everyone.
in my opinion those movies are a commentary on muslims immigration in the post 9/11 US, Clark being the muslim and Bruce for the most part of the movie being Dick Cheney, a story of conflict, and a resolution of this conflict too late to be a happy one, by the death of Superman in the end of BVS.
The Snyder's Cut feels more like a Commentary on his own deconstructions, a deconstruction of himself, but by the scipts that were wrote for the sequels they seems to rewind in a deconstruction mentality, like if we were supposed to breathe with the SC, to end in the sequels with a positive note, a heroic one but nonetheless filled with sorrow and grief.
Beyond that, I really loved that movie, maybe not as much as BVS and Watchmen, but I watched those a countless amount of time, the SC one twice (I can't wait to see the Justice is Grey version).

You don't have to worry about me judging broken English. I think you're right with your assessment but that's kind of what I was trying to say. I was expecting a deconstruction when watching it. What I ended up with was a reconstruction of sorts, or as you put it- a deconstruction of his own deconstructions.

@@styleissubstance I've been looking for essay videos on Snyder for a while, most of the time I come across people saying he's just a fascist, racist and sexist director without understanding the scope of his works, and it's nice to have found people like you, The Worm's Hole and Gwendolyn Jae Stone.
I even managed to persuade a convinced Communist friend to re-study Snyder's works, and he concluded that they were much more Marxist and woke than most people think, now we talk exclusively about Snyder and how we love his work, I think he started to change his mind with Ga'hoole. XD
Directing with a diverse cast, tough topics on acceptance of the "other", US interventionism and authoritarianism, emotional and smart satyrs and deconstructions.

I’ve always enjoyed The Godfather: Part III and I enjoy the new cut under it’s original title The Death of Michael Corleone. It may not better then the first two films, but as an epilogue it serves its purpose. Shows us how Michael Corleone deals with what he’s done over the years as he’s now an old man. He’s got regret and has to give power over to his nephew due to his age. It’s always been an excellent film and I think the recut is just as powerful.

Irreversible REALLY messed with my head when I saw it at 16. As an adult, it messed with my head even more to learn that the dark underbelly of the gay community featured in this film is VERY, disturbingly real. It captures the dark truth of humanity in such a violent, terrifying way.

Also, I can't be the only one who thinks that Michael yelling in anguish over Mary's body has some similarities to King Lears grief over the death of Cordelia.
Edit: Now, that I think about, there are actually a fair few parallels to King Lear over the course of the trilogy

Paranoid about spoiling too much so Ill keep it breif but the last two especially feel very meaningful. I can't pinpoint what that meaning is though. Think you'd be able to help to clarify it a bit more knowing how film-language and everything works pretty much
It's become my favourite horror trilogy easily
But yeah, be prepared though 😅

    • @fyuri867
      @fyuri867 3 года назад

Well I'm kinda new to cinephelia tbh, been watching a lot of the films you analyse, but other films I enjoy include El Topu by Alejandro Jorowsky, Gozu by Takashi Miike (the comdedy hits harder if you know japanese a little), Cut by Pynying Sanyeng, Drugstore Cowboy just cos I relate to the struggle of having a life focused on self-sedation.
I have my own analyasis of A Surbian Film that if I ever got into video essays I'd love to upload
I don't normally like exploitation films cos their lack of meaning beyond pushing boundaries makes them not even disturbing which is supposed to be their main and only appeal, making them pointless, but the August Underground trilogy just shone out to me among all the exploitation crap its lumped with, managed to hit me in ways that has forced me to think about love, violence, sex, lumpanized environments and destruction.
Maybe Im just projecting onto it, but I couldn't help but see something in it that I couldn't clearly describe if you asked me. My vision of what the film actually is is as blurry and grainy as the camera they used to shoot it
The first one I still really like but is more exploitation-y than the last two, which are amazing I think. It is necessary to watch the first though
If anything, even if one were to just call them exploitation films, it's the most realistic set of horror films of all time

I don't remember if I asked or not but what do you think of Mauler's video of Zack Snyder's Justice League and what do you think of people like Drinker or Rags.
In my opinion they do irreparable damage to how films should be made, and I don't think they really care what the videos are about, they basically create drama for the money.
I have always laughed at this approach to analysis and criticism, in Russia there are people like ANOIR who makes very unfair arguments against Zack and just lies like Maggie Fish, and besides that, just very superficially analyzes things he touches like Hereditary (2018)
