I've seen a lot of coaching videos but this one has really been helpful. Thanks a lot man you the best
Glad we can help Robert. We'll continue to post more teaching :)
This is Coach Van Tassel from My Football Mentor. Your thumb should actually be the first finger to leave the ball and the index finger is the last finger to leave the ball. The ball should roll off your fingers from the pinkie to the index finger in order. This is how you create rotation on the ball.
your videos help me a lot. Thanks a lot i had trouble at first with throwing the football but now thanks to your videos i understand. Thanks coach
.
As you know, most QBs don't wear glove on throwing hand. Curt Warner, Philip Rivers and a few others. We usually recommend not to use gloves unless it makes a STRONG difference in your throwing. At the end of day it all comes down to your decision & confidence.
Play great
Yes, you can move your fingers to the laces that feel the most comfortable to you. The Pittsburgh Steelers' multiple Superbowl winning quarterback, Terry Bradshaw, use to put his index finger on the tip of the ball. He threw one of the nicest spirals of any QB!
Thank you, all of the other videos explained to release the ball out of the back of the hand but they do not seem to be as in dept as this
Hi5. Glad he could help. Coach Cunerty is amazing!
I am going to practice with this. Our country just started a league and i am second QB in my team, but i hope i am going to be the best after working hard :)
Thank you for this video. I've been wanting to learn the proper grip but never found any book or video that explained how to throw a football, never mind as good as your description.
You're a heck of a coach mister Cunerty, helped my throwing motion a great deal!
West side
The bulk of the power from your throw comes from your sternum (rotational force) and your legs. If you focus on working on your strength in those areas and your fundamentals, you should have a good shot at being able to throw 60 yards.
Thank you Mr Football for you videos, I will begin playing Flag football in august and it helps me to understand and train with my football right now ^^
You're a hell of a coach man.. Thank you so much
Thank you! I have to teach a flag football unit for my team sports class tomorrow, and this really helped.
This is great coaching !!! 👍👍👍
We always like underdogs! You'll have to work twice as hard as the average guy and work on your technique a lot! Hip rotation, etc. Anything is possible.
Great video. All answers i need. Thank you very much and greets from switzerland :)
Great video me and my son will be watching a lot more of your channel
We'll get that message out to coach Cunerty ;)
What do you think about wearing a glove on your throwing hand?
Holders, esp. backup QB's, have to find the opposite side of the seam so the kicker can't hit them and cause the ball to get funky trajectories.
coach Cunerty has an official NFL sized ball in his hand.
I found the answer in 1 of your videos!
This is the only video to help me
There is no exact way to grip the football as there are even some QB's who don't even grip the laces. Whatever is comfortable for you is fine as long as you are able to pass the ball effectively. I would recommend, however, gripping the ball with your ring finger on the second lace instead. This will place your hand more towards the back of the ball versus in the middle of it. Doing this will help you to throw a spiral more effectively and with more velocity.
Hey Coach, when i throw the ball, should my thumb be the 4th finger that leaves the ball? If not, please tell me the order for all the fingers. Thanks!
Hey coach. When I throw a spiral my ball rotates correctly but the point of the ball always point of the ball turns right and the end of the ball turns left. So when i throw the ball it does fly straight forward but it's turned a few degrees away from it's path. How can i fix that? PLEASE REPLY you will make my day, Thank you :)
lol after 5 years he still never replied. sad life
He did , just under FleshNoope comment
On*
Right on. Hi5
It's probably something with your physical grip of the ball. Everyone's different.
also can do i push with the pinky? or with the pointer finger upon releasing the ball??
Have a good day god love you
What causes the ball to turn on an angle after release?
Marc2k6 I have that problem idky either
Marc2k6 it’s when ur fingers all let go at different times when u release
@@aeridae but u are supposed to let go at different times though? dont coaches say pinky lets go first, followed by ring finger, middle, then index?
can i grip the football with my small hands like the first 3 is out of the laces only the pinky is touching the 3rd lace it like its called 0 and 3rd,rather than 1st and forts or 2nd and fifth???
A lot of this is off the mark with respect to the physics of throwing.
I'm 5'6". My hand size is probably barely 5". I can throw a full size ball pretty well. Would I ever physically be able to throw a football 60 yards or farther?
Ur very understandable but every time i throw the ball goes like 30 yards spinning but the point of it is pointing right (i throw with my right) it goes straight but it points to the right while spinning and going straight what is the problem? I think i flick to hard or something
I have small hands when ever I throw the football I can’t grip it and I always fumble
Anyone know the name of the song at the end? And Awsome video
Thanks for the comment.
The song is a Royalty Free song called Pull Me In by Tito Huapaya
Check out our recent video: QB Throwing Mechanics Q&A - Why Does the Ball Turn as it Falls. It answers your question exactly :)
