@@laterbugs it depends on how tight they are. if they’re tight they’re painful for a few days or a week.
@@laterbugs it depends on the stylist and how long they want the braids to last. The tighter it is the longer it will stay neat. Most people get braids so that they can protect their natural hair. Natural hair (curly-kinky hair) is very prone to breakage so braids let the hair chill out without being messed with a lot.

I don’t want to sound rude but I’m just curious because I’m yt, does having braids hurt your scalp? Because I know theyre braided super duper tight and I’ve always wondered.
@@asiaewanchuk8166 that's not rude and it all depends on the type of braids. These in the video aren't tight at all. Some styles can be tight though.
@@asiaewanchuk8166 Also depends on the person doing the braids. Some people are heavy handed/rough handed so the process is painful and the result is tight and painful too.
I wear braids as a protective style and having someone to oil your scalp is just heavenly. I love your nail polish. Please do more videos with Adrianna. 😘😘

We would just refer to ourselves as “goddesses” but that tends to be a white hippie sort of woman who loves yoga and crystals and tarot cards and talks about energy flow and vibrations. I remember being a little girl in class and other little girls playing with my hair, that was my first asmr ever.
The earliest asmr I can remember was my friend counting my braids in the lunch line.

As someone with pin-straight, red hair I love watching videos about curly hair and braids and such. I remember the first time I learned about scalp oils and hair grease-my best friend and neighbor growing up was black and we were playing Barbie hairdresser. She grabbed a tub of grease and slapped it in that doll’s hair, and I looked at her like she was nuts. She saw the look on my face and said, “What? Don’t you put grease in your hair?” We were both VERY confused😂

I am Indian nd my maternal grandmother told me these kind of braids were common here too till her 30s. They called it "mindhi". And there were different types of these braids and then, they would wear head jewellery(those that were common in those times). I was surprised, thought it's a part of African culture only.
Yes some other cultures are influenced by the african culture. I love that everyone has their own spin to things but you can still see the similarities in the different cultures throughout the world.
It’s not “only” African culture, it is just natively African culture. Meaning Africans began the cultural practice... which is easily assumed considering Africans were the first people on the planet! Braids are all over the world but they always trace back to their African origin.

As a kid I used to love getting my scalp oiled, or “greased” as my aunt would say, with hair dressing or oil. It’s the most relaxing feeling ever especially after getting fresh braids.

Knotless braids usually aren't painful like the traditional styled braids. There's way less tension on the scalp.

@@AuroraR For some, it’s like a fresh start. For others, it could be that the hair is damaged and they just wanted to start over. Instead of cutting little but little over time, we cut it down to the scalp (some not all). The big chop can also be a spiritual journey. To me, I felt like I was detoxing and starting over for growth in hair abs growth as a person in a positive light.

Using a comb to make parts
It takes a long time and they usually use rat tail combs to make long straight parts and braid each square one at a time.
