Shark Island was the only band cool enough to have not one but TWO songs on the soundtrack! This song was during the time travel montage, and the other one was during the "it's your mom!" bedroom scene...... Party on dudes!
Actually this song was the booth reveal scene (crystal thing transforms). Rufus gets in it and goes back to see the boys - first effects scene of it working. 'It is time.' ruclips.net/video/8KtF4mX7rpU/видео.html LOVE this scene - this song makes it!
This movie is where I discovered Shark Island. Been a fan ever since. My son picked up playing the guitar and I pointed out this band and specifically Richard Black's voice. A most excellent rock voice. Played him some Contraband as well.
I went to see BTEE with friends in 1989, the year I graduated from high school. It had such a great soundtrack that I bought it right away, and when we drove around the city doing our usual things, it became "our" soundtrack too. We quoted the movie all the time... there were other movies we did that with, like Spaceballs, but it didn't have the double whammy of the film itself and the soundtrack that would have been a worthy purchase as a compilation of songs even without the movie. That was a long time ago, and times have changed. If the movie had been made today instead of decades ago, what would be on the soundtrack? This soundtrack is a time capsule, bringing us back to a time when rock (and particularly harder rock) was king. Now... meh.
Don't you have to wonder what a video for this would have looked like? Although, the video I'd REALLY like to see (that never was) would have been My City. That spoken word part after the solo? You have to wonder what the band would have cooked up as a visual for that.
'be excellent to each other, and PARTY ON DUDES!'

That quintessential 1980s JCM 800 guitar tone is timeless.
