The most under-apprecaited girl rock band.; the voice , the composed and the produced material, all excellently done. It's been at least ten years when I started to listen to them, it brings lots of memories for me, but mostly good ones.

I let my friend borrow this album and he asked me if I was singing (I'm a lead singer in a band and he watched us practice once) so I said no. He was like you sound exactly like the lead singer. it made me so happy... Jessicka is my idol.

I forgot how much I love this album. Such raw energy. The 90s was a great decade for brash, unadulterated rock music.
I love the vocal style Jessicka takes on with this album. Of course, I love her sound on JOJ's earlier albums as well, I just have a special place for her voice on this record. You can tell that she had matured as a singer since the beginning of the band.
It is a much more mature sound, it's beautiful and suits the album, especially "Strawberry Gashes." I loved the album before this, it was really raw and angry, but this one is much more subtle and more listenable (unless I'm really pissed off, lol).
Still listening to this album as if it was released yesterday.

This album is timeless, I still remember a pen pal girl in 2000 or there abouts from kerrang sending me this on cassette and I was completely fuckin knocked over how heavy when I am queen was, how catchy fear of dying was, how emotional strawberry gashes was, how vivica was far too close to home, and how the love song cover was honestly in my opinion the best cure cover I've heard, flasless

My mother loved them when they were popular in the late 90s and early ‘00s. When I was 12 I found them, in 2015. Still love them to this day as an almost 20 year old.
I think I just went through my first heartbreak and I promised myself that when that happened I'd listen to this album first. This really helped me out.

huh, i'm 1000s of miles away from where they played, and i know them for years; they used to come up a lot on last.fm. That thing boosted them a lot, even if much too late. Later I got the Vinyl which is one out of like 5 vinyls I ever bought! I fear it's just simply __splitting up__ that kills it (compare i.e. Cobalt60, Fetish or *sniff* Algebra Suicide who had also gathered fans around the world but broke apart too early. It's so weird I woke up half an hour ago and had the melody of 'Fear of Dying' in my head. It was getting annoying so I googled the lyrics and I could remember and then I saw it was "JoJ"!! I haven't heard them in probably 10 years but loved them as a teenager.........Now I remember this album is criminally underrated, there are actually no 'fillers' in it, every song is great, and they have a multi-genre style that is hard to pin down.
Some songs are really punk rock, some goth-metal, some of it really grunge, others are super-angsty slow ballads, some sound like the Smashing Pumpkins...You just cannot pin them down.
Such a shame they weren't around for very long, I think they would've been huge today .
Scarling were pretty good too though. I'm gonna give them a listen after this.

I used to steal this cd from my girlfriend when i stayed at her house cuz her mum made us sleep in separate rooms. Just reminds me of her. Especially the cure cover. I love the way her voice can go from that viceral female lioness scream to that beautiful melodic vocal without any break in the tone she can just push her vocal chords from melody to screaming without any phase shift. Its beautiful.

I can't believe that I never bothered to give JoJ a listen back in the day. I'd heard of them, but I'd only listened to Strawberry Gashes. I really missed out, but at least I know now how good they were. This album is now one of my favorites.

About six years ago I lucked onto an LP pressing. (No, I am NOT selling it!) The tracks "witch hunt" and "underjoyed" were excluded. Too bad- I don't hate "underjoyed". It should have been left on... (The Cure cover was intact, no longer a hidden track..)
I feel like I'm in high school again! 15 years ago, I loved this album when I used to use Lime Wire. For years I've been wanting more from Jack Off Jill, when I got older I got my wish with their reunion and merch.

wow haven't thought about this band in a long time. I got to see Jack off Jill perform live. back in the late 90's i went to a concert featuring Monster Magnet, Hole, and Marilyn Manson. Hole wound up cancelling their performance and were replaced by Jack off Jill. never heard of them before that night but they were awesome.

I wonder if she will play this mystery about story & what it would sound like ?.Who am I ?. Who was I all this time ?. Absolute masterpiece. I waited so damn long for this record to drop, there were delays due to record label bullsh-t iirc. I remember they sent out an MP3 file with segments from each song on the record. It was like Christmas morning, hearing those for the first time. ALL of these songs rip. Hot damn.
I agree w/ you so much Martha Potter, I love female artists. I get made fun of for liking Emilie Autumn, Stolen Babies, The Creepshow, The Birthday Massacre, Florence, Ms Mr, ect. But I loved them, i just happen to listen to a lot of artists that are females.

But yea if u liked some of those ladies, u might want to look up "music" by eths, Katzenjammer Kabarett,karen stever, chelsea wolfe, marry elizabeth mcglynn(silent hill music), horrorpops, Lady Parasyte, & theStart. They kinda go everywhere on the spectrum, but i like em. sorry for spamming, get a lil excited w/ music.
NdustrialN8 I like the band In this Moment. The lead singer is Maria Brink. She has a good voice and also is really sexy. I'd reccommend checking out their songs 'Whore', 'Blood', 'Forever', and 'Promises'. They're their more popular ones, but with good reasons. I have all four of their albums and they're great.

I liked the name of the band so I clicked to be honest.
I don't think Nazi Halo would be released these days. which is sad. It's a killer song but I could see it offending Nazi's and men who take themselves way to serious so therefore shunned and cancelled. I miss the 90s+early 00's before censorship made everything so booooooooooooooring
For those listening for the very first time, and not sure if you like it jump to 36.07 Star No Star. The very best song amongst a grouping of some of the best around

Absolutely adore JOJ but I can see a lot of comments saying it's "goth"... It most definitely isn't goth rock (eg. Sex Gang Children, Bauhaus as examples). Its more like Alternative Rock... There are some pretty clear punk influences, and the goth influence is there too (as the same with marilyn Manson - i believe he met twiggy when one of them bought a love & rockets tape - i forget which one worked in the record store). But I wouldn't class this as goth for a second lol. I don't even think I'd class it anywhere near metal either. Still, kickass music though
+Goddamnit Lara Haha yeah, late 90s/early 00s 'goths' listened to Manson and and nu-metal etc, they seem to be pretty clueless about the original scene from the UK. I love JoJ but I'd put em somewhere between punk and grunge.
+Asterix the Gaul Yeah the actual goth scene in 90's was bands like London After Midnight, Nosferatu, Diva Destruction, Screams For Tina and all those kinda bands

Love love love this classic album, and would do anything to see this band re-unite. One question: What happens to the girl in "Strawberry Gashes?" Does she kill herself, or merely self-mutilate? Or is she having others mutilate her? Is it willfully or otherwise? Depending on the reasons and fate, this could either be tragic, dead sexy, or both....
It's about a friend the singer knew who was addicted to heroin. It has nothing to do with cutting ones self.
