    Looks like just opening it, cleaning it and putting it back. Engineer's have designed it so well that it doesn't need much repair to do 👌

      Most 2 stroke engines last forever... as long as they weren't overheated and/or ran without oil/premix.

    pro tip put two of the nuts on the stud and run the bottom nut until its stops on the top nut then you can use that as a stud remover

    I just rebuilt my 650sx just like you did, and had just as much trouble getting the cylinder offhearing that engine fire for the first time makes it all worth it

    Wow. I'm doing this job now. One of my pistons cracked (I didn't do it) and lost compression. Light scuffing to cylinder wall but should hone out. I'll just put in a new piston and rings for that cylinder. But it was fairly easy to separate the block. I tapped it with a heavy rubber sledge around in circles and I was able to lift it right off

    Hello!
    I watched your video on RUclips. You have a great understanding of engines! Can I ask you to send me by email instructions for repairing the kawasaki js 550 sx engine. Thank you!

    Nicely made video! Only suggestion that I have is to give Kroil a try, works so much better than PB blaster. Although with the price, I save it for the really stubborn stuff like you dealt with in this rebuild!

    I think I need to replace the crank seals on a '92 750SS (looks like the same motor), the package gave me 3 seals but I only know of two on either side of the crank, do you know where the 3rd one goes? Is it worth removing the lower crank cover (oil pan??)? Great video by the way, most people post hour long videos showing every detail and its way too long to watch, this is great summary.

    dude i love my jet ski engine. I'm just learning now how to wrench on them because I somehow over heated the head...melted the paint... now I'm diving in and this is one of the best videos. I don't know what kind of "flying water toy" your making, but I'm all in for trying it when you build it. Thanks for the video...ebay has most the parts???

Also when i took out the engine from the sx i had some kind of a problem that i couldent find what it was... The engine was starting but immediatly terning off after a second. The carb is ok, the compression was good and the electronic plaquet was showing power. any idea of what it could be? thenx

    So are these motors water cooled or air cooled?

    • @phoobindustries8905
      @phoobindustries8905 6 лет назад

      Water cooled it comes in through the jet pump and out a pisser on the side of the ski

  • @tyronejackson8766

    is it normal for the crank bearings to sound like that when your turning the crank?
    I have a 650 motor that sounds just like when I turn the crank quickly, I thought maybe the crank bearing were bad because they're a little noisy. how do you judge if they are still good or not?

    • @BlairWilliams
      @BlairWilliams 6 лет назад

      That's a pretty normal sounding crank.

    Nice work! So its a jet ski motor? Was it hard to get the manual for it? Or are you one of those clever mechanics that doesn't need one?

    • @BenNBuilds

      No manual, The torque settings were cast right into the block! Google did help a little tho...

    I have the same engine but with missing nuts etc. Is it possible to put the engine on a go kart or something with the cooling system? Because I see a lot of water coming out of the exhaust...

    • @phoobindustries8905
      @phoobindustries8905 7 лет назад

      Aris Vezos you need good cooling and a transmission

    • @BenNBuilds
      @BenNBuilds  7 лет назад

      yea you'll need to have a good water cooling system.jet ski engines have a wet exhaust, which really wont work on a go cart so you'd need to find some other suitable exhaust (pretty hard to size for a 2 stroke) or put a jacket AROUND it and make a water cooled exhaust (a jet ski exhaust might get too hot, not rated for air cooled temps)

    how did you get the pistons in?

    • @spratsprat3266
      @spratsprat3266 7 лет назад +1

      Ted Soloman you take the Pistons off of the connecting rod, compress the rings and push it in from the top of the cylinder so it's sticking out the bottom and attach the connecting rod back to the piston.

    • @BlairWilliams
      @BlairWilliams 6 лет назад

      Way too complicated. Its easy to just compress it by hand as you slide the head on. Make sure one of the pistons is really close to TDC when you do it.
