I used the Stitcher for a long time, but after taking a break and coming back I'm definitely more of a Great Epee enjoyer. The slight loss of reach & damage (less than a 5% difference in both regards anyways) is definitely worth it for the sweeping R2. It's so good for use when unlocked that it just makes me feel more in control, both in PvE & PvP. The Stitcher is probably better for a Succesive attack or counter-hit oriented Dexterity build due to that R2, but otherwise I'd say the versatile move-set & lower stat requirements make the Epee the generally superior option.

I honestly think bloody helice is top 4 weapons in the game tbh. The Ash has tons of I frames and the 3 hit combo after is a stance breaking machine. Using it against Maliketh and fast bosses like that feel like a dance super fun and powerful

The thing is though you really gotta be good at using it that’s why it doesn’t get the love some weapons get. It’s not a weapon you can just pick up and be great with instantly. You gotta get used to the move set unlike other weapons like blasphemous blade or dark moon greatsword. Which don’t get me wrong I personally love weapons like that but thats not how it is for a lot of people.

@@JTdaGoat2871I’ve been using thrusting swords and heavy thrusting swords (I absolutely love the heavy thrusting swords, I do t use anything else lol) and they take a lot of skill to master! The faint attack is overlooked a lot but it’s the perfect baiting move for example: (in pvp) start charging a heavy slightly outside your range and watch them run in to get a free hit before your heavy, as soon as they try use the faint attack (charge your heavy and before the heavy attack starts press the dodge button), boom free damage. Use the range to the fullest extent, it’s practically a spear, also ashes of war like flaming slash are whatever I find don’t really fit (not as in they are bad with the weapon class but they don’t feel good to use) try using something like repeating thrusts for super hard punishments and use it often, quick step is also good but it’s just a faster dodge, blood tax is good but it’s less damage than repeating thrusts. Don’t even use the running attacks or chase the opponent, let them heal and use a badass emote while they do for maximum fear factor and destroy them! Tldr: Try spear ahead, also praise the message!

the issue with regular thrusting swords is only in pve in where you will suffer if you don't powerstance them, the only time you can sort of get away with one-handing regular thrusting swords is when you're either parrying everything or abusing the stance break on glintblade phalanx ash of war.
i think the best way of actually using the regular thrusting swords in pve is using them all and having them all equipped and powerstanced plus a small shield for parry, you will like having the option of the range of the frozen needle in some cases and the frostbite to increase damage by 20% and the status stick that is antspur rapier you don't really need it for most enemies but you will be happy you put blood infusion on it on some bosses or enemies you come across and the rot is just extra benefit, the rapier is just a good enough main hand weapon and it's always nice to have a good crit weapon around and it wouldn't be a thrusting sword build without some rapier and parry practice, and the estoc is just old reliable. the only one i would personally skip is rogiers because the only thing making it valuable to me is the glintblade phalanx on it which i could give to the rapier instead that does more crit damage anyways but that's just my personal preference.
you could skip all thrusting swords but two but i will say that you probably want bleed against atleast one boss in particular and that's it.
as for heavy thrusting swords, they are great for just having one of, they work well powerstanced or not, they deal good damage and poise damage by themselves and have good reach, you're doing more than just tickling the enemy to death.

I have a question. I just got into useing thrusting swords on my new dex character, and i was wondering if i need to level int to get poster breaks with glintblade phalanx? Or will it still break stance with low int just as effectively?

    • @bobxbaker
      @bobxbaker 5 месяцев назад

@@One.eye.wazowski pretty sure you don't, the stance damage doesn't change with upgrades or with scaling, it only changes with weapons and for glintblade phalanx i think that only applies to the follow up thrust so if you have heavy thrusting sword the heavy thrusting sword follow up attack just has a bit more stance damage inherently, just as it deals more stance damage inherently using impaling thrust compared to a normal thrusting sword.
the glintblades in of themselves i think is a fixed amount and doesn't change no matter what weapon you use them on or what scaling you have on them or upgrade, the only thing that changes is damage.
but know that ash of war glintblade phalanx deal significantly more stance damage than the spell glintblade phalanx.
so if you're thinking of abusing the glintblade phalanx and using a rapier to get fat nasty crits, you can do that and it is quite good and you could do that from start to finish, but as someone who have done that, it gets kinda boring in my opinion after a while.
what i ended up doing was just collecting every thrusting sword and playing with every playstyle i could with them and i think that was really nice, frosting up bosses with frozen needle and then parrying them with royal knights resolve on the rapier was huge crits.
i'm currently playing a thrusting sword build now that aims to exploit counter damage, counter attacks with piercing damage deal 30% extra damage in of themselves alone and what that is, it's when you hit the enemy when they are mid attack, as in when the enemy attack is active, not in start up or recovery animation so it's a bit of a small window.
so for example if you jump over a bosses attack and hit them during they take extra damage, and you can really pump those damage numbers up.

Regarding pvp, the frozen needle is mid at best, surely the worst thrusting sword by far, while Cleanrot and Antspur are both S tier, two of the strongest pvp weapons in the game. Cleanrot has the highest damage and range, while the Antspur with rotten grease is just nasty. Rogier's rapier heavy attacks is crazy good to apply status effects, plus it has a true combo with impaling thrust.

Hiding behind a greatshield while poking with a heavy thrusting sword may not be the most exciting way to play but it is safe. Piercing damage is very strong; its the least resisted and you can get counter damage bonus.

Got beef with the fact that you put estoc above cleanrot especially for pvp. I mean does the heavy attack ever have its use in that scenario compared to its light attack, steping and crouching attacks ?, wouldnt more damage and especially higher range matters more ? And consider the fact that cleanrot weight 0.5 unit less than estoc despite doing more damage and have more range
