I have an 8k polling hertz mouse but only use 4k because the difference isn’t that noticeable and it helps my pc perform better

for people who won't bother optimizing their pc, then 8khz would definitely give stutters on some games. For those that are really interested in running 8khz, you can do just fine even with old ryzens or ryzen 5 (i.e. I'm running 8khz mice without a hitch on 5600x while only using physical cores and threads are off)

I have a high end PC but use Windows 10 - would you not recommend 8k in this case?

You need to emphasize the mouse series. "Amd Ryzen 5 and older" is not a thing since there is always a Ryzen 5, 7, and 9 in every generation So do you mean The 1,2,3,5, or 7000 series? Side note say the equivalent for intel as well.

P.S. if anyone gets confused why the 4, and 6000 series were skipped they were used for the naming scheme of laptop chips.
