I built a similar filter for a UVO project I had, except I took a length of fine copper mesh and rolled it up tight and fitted it into the suction tube. This gives it far more surface area, like the folds in an air filter and oil filter. Therefore allowing it to run a lot longer before clogging up.
I have a 1985 Mitsubishi Pajero with 2.5 diesel engine. The engine has been rebuilt but not well cleaned in the water system so I'm having rust going back to the newly re-cored radiator. I also don't want to spend a stupid amount of money on an inline filter, so your video has given me inspiration to do a similar set up.

Awesome hack! I intend to try it. What size PVC? Where did you get the slip over collar?

Honestly it’s going to depend on your radiator as to what size pvc and collar. I believe it was 1.5” pvc but I’m not 100% on that. I just found a piece of tubing that was close

@@jonathanwood1984 now i ordered two similar size filters but with metal mesh, that can be unscrewed and cleaned. and i plan to leave it attached to the system permanently.

@@uroskostic8570 nice. I unfortunately didn’t have the space between engine and rad to install the in line filters, otherwise I would have

Maybe even leftover metal screen material (depending on the mesh size) could work too? The only thing with this system is that you have to keep checking it frequently to make sure any junk that gets there doesn’t obstruct the flow.

Why not just use a fuel filter?
