Really ??Tommy Lee still plays and he is more of a groove in the pocket drummer,he still hits the drums HARD and I just wish we'd hear some more of the way he drummed on that 1994 Record when they brought Corabi in,cuz he showed just how good he can be,when not limited by certain style of songwriting!!
@@raypratt3611 Tommy who ? This is Time to honour the all mighty ,Tommy Aldridge !!! Tommy Lee could not even carry this man's drum sticks ! You believe this dude ? Tommy Aldridge just gave us an all out assault at 70 years old Good grief ,I have a mind to kick you in the shin ! Tommy Lee is a good drummer ,I would not say, he is a great drummer . I just hope to be around still at 70!
To the critics (who are just being critical): Sometimes greatness has more to do with your body of work, professionalism, and numbers of lives influenced by what you do and how you do it. Degree of difficulty has nothing to do with greatness. Tommy’s great at what HE does and he’s left his mark on the rock world. Something to consider.
Joe Feldpausch if you’re willing to see it, Tommy’s influence on drumming AND style/technique is ALL OVER the drummers from the 70s, 80s, 90’s and beyond. And if that’s not enough for everyone, he’s one of the nicest and most humble guys you’ll ever meet. VERY under rated.
Robert Scovill Tommy certainly influenced me as a drummer in the 80s and 90s when I played drums in rock bands. I loved his humility, dedication, and he really taught me the art of double bass drumming.
Tommy is a great drummer. Problem is we are in the era of the RUclips drummer where we get to see all this incredible technical playing that lacks any type of human feel. Might as well be a drum machine. Tommy Aldridge is probably one of the best rock ‘n’ roll drummers out alive.
Tommy doesn't just play the drums, he annihilates them. I challenge any one of these self obsessed critics to do what this man or any of the other greats does at their age. Absolutely phenomenal stuff. I'm curious to know what kind of cardio some of these guys do to keep in drumming shape and not perspire behind the kit. I mean look at Bill Ward, hasn't he had 2 or 3 heart attacks already. Hell, Sib Hasian died behind a kit while on tour.
@Tom Johnson This is one song that happens to be fill heavy and in their live show leads into his drum solo which is why he plays it at drums shows and clinics.
I've been playing drums all my life. Let me tell you folks something,...back in the 80's, I was a teenager, & had already been playing for 8 or 9 yrs. Man, I was a Tommy Aldridge wannabe. Well, NOW it's 2020. I've been playing for about 42 yrs. .....and I'm a Tommy Aldridge wannabe.
As a proud Canadian its bordering on blasphemy to say this but Tommy has been my number one fave drummer (would maybe even give up my left one to have him as the other half of the engine room of our band) and the late great Neil Peart was number two. Tommy doesnt play with so much technical flash as a rule - although he certainly can, I ve heard him play straight ahead jazz style too - but Ive never heard anyone else play with that raw power that says I fuckin mean it with every stroke. And any young drummer looking at going down the double kick road should carefully study everything he recorded. Over and over. His technique is not only fantastic its unique and unlike most young guys, even though he uses the double kick so much and so well, his snare and hi-hat technique hasnt suffered. Ive made some rough loops where I isolated his drums the closest Im ever likely to get to play with him lets just say those are not my neighbors fave practice days. Crying In The Rain, Bad Boys, Fool For Your Lovin, from various live recordings, and between now and xmas I plan to see what I can do with the whole Slip Of The Tongue record. That was the first one of theirs I heard all the way through and the drums sound good on it so relatively easy to make something of decent quality. If youre interested in a copy let me know and when Ive got it ready I can hook you up.
I was introduced to the skin bashing madman on the Diary of a Madman tour and was an instant fan, especially with a henchman standing behind him to hand sticks to the great one when he decided to throw them to the audience. Yes T.A. Is on another level, him and Randy Castillo always my favorite. I have one of R.C. Sticks that he handed me.

The only drummer I want to meet. I owe him my left foot since early 70's 9th grade. Saw him with B.O.A. Lincoln Ne. I ordered a 14 x 22 that weekend, rode the bus to Sound City Music laid down 200 bucks and a week later I started. Thanks Tommy. I'm still at it at 61. Jim
You would be very lucky. I met him back in the 90s at a drum clinic in Sacramento. The part I remember most is during the Q&A session. Someone asked, "What advice would you give young drummers just starting out?" His answer, "Take lessons. Definitely take lessons. I feel I could have done a lot more if I had taken lessons." Done more?!?! DONE MORE?!?!?!
And why exactly would u owe him a body part??u took what u learned from watching him and.....is this Tommy Lee or....not really sure what u owe him for???
After my drummer recommended I listen to the drums in this video, I found myself truly inspired and completely satisfied with the rhythm and creativity!
dude blows me away everytime.. flash hands and heavy hittin.. such a small framed guy and hes a powerhouse... love tommy aldridge man.. just aces!!! hes been around for the rock of ages
I think 🤔 you’re spot on. Being a smaller framed guy is a lot of what helps his playing. He’s got agility and speed in his playing. Definitely having a leaner athletic frame helps.
It's amazing how the great drummers just get better with age. I have never been a fan of double bass players but Tommy makes it sounds so tasteful and never over does it.
Tommy Aldridge, one of my earliest influences and still a source of inspiration. Sure, we can all play double bass, trips, quads, sextuplets, etc, it's the way Tommy puts his phrasing together that sets him apart from the masses.....
I have been watching Tommy play like a maniac since the 1970's. He remains humble even though he may be one of the greatest drummers of all time, regardless of the style. Just a phenom, No one willl ever replace a guy like Tommy in the music world.
Surprisingly complex, especially the cymbal timings! Love that crazy left hand air circle thing he does before the hit. Great pulse. And then the powerful hand percussion at the end!!!
One of the nicest guys too. I worked on his car and when done was very appreciative..funny thing when he came into my shop, he had Yamaha drum stickers on the back window of his car. One of my guys asked him if he was a musician? he humbley replied "Kinda"..I laughed my butt off, and after Tommy left, I pulled him up on the internet and my guy was a bit dumbfounded..Thanks to Tommy for having a sense of humor..He keeps in shape by riding a bicycle...On 1 occasion he rode from my shop to the beach 10 miles each way and then home another 25 miles...he is in great shape..
If I can play drums when I'm his age I'll be happy, if I can play like him I'll die a happy man. It's worth noting that he's so humble in interviews, he knew what worked for him and he played it with every fiber and every muscle.of his being. What a man & drummer.
My first time at a concert was Black Sabbath, and their warm up band was Sweat Hog with Barry “Frosty” Smith on drums, and I watched his solo played with his hands and was amazed. This reminds me of that GREAT concert.
Tommy is a true legend! I first saw him live back in 1978 when Pat Travers opened for Rush. What a showman! His stick twirling was amazing, just like that twirl at 2:10. He reminds us that it's SHOW business, and that looking good is just as important as sounding good.
Beats his rig so hard you would think it owes him money. Seen him do this solo for over 30 years and it's just as impressive as the first time I saw it. A true master of the craft and a gentleman to boot!
..the last of the oldstyle powerdrummer in hardrock still playing on a level that is totally crazy...what an absolute legend! 🙏
70+ & whips 99% of the drumming population! So jealous.

One of the most solid hard rock drummers ever to grace this earth. Legend in every sense of the word

How can he play so well? Easy, he respects his craft (and us the fans) and never stopped playing with passion.
What a total badass

Who doesn’t want Tommy on their drums? I’ll wait……❤❤❤😊
Todd Sucherman, Simon Phillips, John Bonham, and Tommy Aldridge. The most distinctive drum sounds I've ever heard.
You know your stuff about drumming! You put those four unbelievable players in the same sentence.

I'd like to add Clive Burr and Bill Ward, but it's still an impressive list
