They are new college students, not solders. only officer is a solder. This is normal military training lesson(2~4 weeks only), every college newbie must join this training when they go to the college or university. Me too, about 18 years ago.

If his commander would have simply explained to him the rationale of alternating arm and foot (ie. for optimal balance, simple physics), instead of drilling him senselessly, the poor chap might be saved from a lifetime of psychological trauma of being laughed at by dozens of female soldiers around him.
You probably can't understand chinese. Instructor isn't being mean or anything. The soldier is being given extremely clear and concise instructions. Literally telling him left hand right foot. Then the soldier keeps failing. I feel sorry for the instructor.
This poor student should have done the "Michael Jackson" moonwalk, then bark at the instructor.

The drill instructor was actually telling him how to do it, he was saying; "Right hand, then quickly followed by your left hand".
